So I did a little test in the builder how much those ascended weapons you “need” to “grind” for really matters. Please let me know if I did something wrong.
- Full berserker warrior without ascended weapons and exotic trinkets:
= 6503 effective power
- Full berserker warrior with ascended weapons and exotic trinkets:
= 6582 effective power = 1.1% increase in effective power
If you don’t feel you really need that 1.1% increase in damage/or the looks don’t grind for it! It’s not harder than that when you think about it

Can people please stop qq’ing over a gear grind! You just need exotic gear to do most of the harder stuff in the game and for Fractals you don’t need the ascended weapons. If you don’t like the way you obtain these weapons, then don’t bother, you don’t need them!
Just play the parts of the game you like and if you don’t like any of them, play another game!

Well me personally don’t have a problem with that but the other officers might have another opinion. I don’t think we have a clear cut line for these issues in the guild. We have some that I know don’t represent all the time and we haven’t kicked them.
The best way is to make an app at our homepage and you state this issue like you have stated here. The we can discuss that among the officers and see what we decide upon.

We are still looking for ppl who wants to join our nice casual but very active guild on the Gandara server. We do regular guild missions and we ve unlocked them all. Ppl run dungeons and other PVE activities as well as WvW and even sPvP all the time.

Crazy laggy for me but watchable
Great fun and perfect difficulty level
Just don’t buy the gem store boxes and just get the normal dragon coffers whatever way suites you. Ofc rng is a kitten but you should get a cool weapon for about the same gold price as other cooler weapons in the game.
Just form a party and co-operate instead of complaining. It worked fine for me to do that and nicely asking ppl to wait a couple of seconds before interacting with the holograms…
/signed They need to fix this!!
We are still looking for more ppl to join our great mature and casual guild on the Gandara (EU) server. We have organized events of all kinds, from guild missions, WvW, Fractals, Dungeon runs, sPVP, etc.

This is bugged again on Gandara :-(
my complaint is not about greed but about what I believe to be flat out wrong.
as the above said, bandwidth and storage are not an issue. they haven’t been for almost ten years.
Anet should be charging for other things than simply creating a custom match.
You should realize by now that ANET treats sPVP as a mini game / cash cow for the actual game (PVE)
Lol, have you been to PVE!? The money they make is not from pvp and will never be. It’s the vanity/utility items in the gem store that gives them money from ppl who rather pay with cash than gold. This cost for CAs will just cover the costs of them having the servers up and running.
And as said before it needs to be limits so the dedicated ppl/groups hosting these servers stay populated without thousands upon servers from everyone as it would be if it was free to start a CA.
lol ill agree to pay for a custom arena when fractals / cof access cost gems too
This is still not a valid comparison since the normal sPV kitten till free and it is only this addon with custom arenas that will have a cost to host, not to play!
Some reasonable comments posted in this thread lately
So… hold on. The single one mode in the game which earns no revenue (PvE earns gold, WvW earns (some) gold. Heck, even Jumping Puzzle aficionados earn gold) is the one which has to pay to use it?
How come we do not need to rent CoF when we want to run that instance?
just ,after the treadmill, they have found a way to enter a monthly payment fee
You don’t have to pay to play the custom arenas, just to host them.

All the tournaments and hot join PVP will still be there as before without any cost, so that comparison is not valid. It is only the custom arenas that will cost some money to host. But for that cost you can set your own rules and create the pvp you want.

I am pretty sure there will be some people who would like to host public server to promote their website/stream/youtube channel through MoTD.
And if they are good Im sure they will have adds, sponsors, etc covering the costs for the CA.
I don’t really see the problem with costs associated with hosting a custom arena (CAs). There will be no cost for ppl playing it and to me this compares more to BF3 where ppl/organizations/etc have there own servers with there fixed rules regarding the matches, maps, etc. And ofc there is a cost related to hosting those servers (correct me if Im wrong), but not for the players playing them.
To me it will be a group effort to host these CAs and not for individualas putting up the gold/cash → gems. Dedicated guilds, sites, sponsors should be the one putting up the money and players will aggregate to the best ones with fun rules, rotations, etc. Why would everyone want their own CA which no one finds and plays in?
Just hope that the pvp community can start growing and ppl use these new CAs and spectator mode in a constructive way :-)

We don’t have a large number of rules or guidelines:
Our members are 21 years of age, or older
We try to be excellent to each other
Real life is more important than in-game
Nobody’s expected to do anything but have a good time
Vanishing Legacy, whats it all about…
We would like to describe ourselves as “a mature gamers guild” as one of our main rules is our age limit for new members. If you want to join “Vanishing Legacy” you have to be at least 21 years old and generally be considered as a mature by yourself as well as others. By mature we mean relaxed and laid back, yet serious when required, friendly and willing to help others and above all tolerant and willing to compromise when needed. Our most important rule however is that “Real life comes first”, as we are here to enjoy our time in game and we understand that there are other more pressing things such as families and/or work.
Our goal is to structure our leadership in such a way to reflect above requirements and give freedom to our members to fully enjoy their time spent in game and not to worry about the meaningless rules and boundaries other guilds usually impose on their members. We will tend to involve all our members in decision making as much as possible, but some core decisions sometimes will be made by Guild Elders themselves.
We consider ourselves a casual guild and above all would like to keep a friendly, family like atmosphere within the guild. However, casual does not mean disorganized, when it comes to guild group activities (raids, expert dungeons, pvp, etc) we can be and always strive to be highly organized and disciplined, but will still try to enjoy our gaming and not have it become a second job.
We prefer and highly encourage guild group play, but we understand that our members can’t take part in every group event. We encourage our members to use both guild voice comms (even if only for listening) and guild forum as much as possible, so even when you are soloing you will feel you are part of the guild.
We strive to be drama free, but from our experience we know that unfortunately sometimes drama is unavoidable. However, when it does occur, we will try to resolve it swiftly and fairly by discussing matters with all sides involved. We will try to do this in a transparent manner and not hide anything from our members. We are adults and we will treat you as one.
So, if you are looking for a new friends and mature gaming atmosphere please go to our Recruitment and submit your application. Do remember that although we love our gaming, in “VaLe” real life comes first.

Why should dungeons be tuned to the lowest denominator? Ppl want endgame (hard content) and Arenanet makes dungeon to be hard. If you can’t pug then join a nice guild, find fun and good ppl to play with and enjoy the dungeons how they should be, WITHOUT stupid wp-zerging!
Ppl who qq, start communicating and get better at your own game! And if you wipe you try again, simple as that. Ppl complain about lack of endgame (=hard content) and then when stuff is actually challenging and you need to work together to beat it ppl complain about that instead… Gaming psychology is interesting

What do u mean with “tiers”? There will not be another tier, just more gear on the same tier….
And you don’t need that resistance until lvl 10 (even then it is mostly avoidable) so why bother if you are not interested? Do the other levels and other dungeons if you don’t like that kind of progression. Or the rest of the game for that matter!
This game need difficult content. We asked for it, here it is! Enjoy!
PS. It’s not even difficult in the lower levels, just takes some coordination and communication. It’s great with content that can suite both cassual and hardcore players. Keep it up Arenanet!

Another thread also pointed out this quote from an interview with Mike O’Brien where he said:
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs”.
Yea, right…
(edited by Moderator)
No!! Terrible idea!
So back in April ArenaNet released their very nice Manifesto. A quote from there states “It all gets back to our basic design philosophy. Our games aren’t about preparing to have fun, or about grinding for a future fun reward. Our games are designed to be fun from moment to moment”.
What happened to that? They made an awesome game that holds so much promise for years of fun. Why change stance now and implement systems that games like WoW and Lotro tried and abandoned?!
Their clarification just makes me more worried! This kind of gear progression will just segregate ppl and if this how it will work in coming dungeons I can’t take a break for a couple of months and run current content with friends since I won’t have full ascended gear… :p
It’s an old stupid system, lazy, and boring game design to have this kind of artificial barrier in group content. I held ArenaNet to higher standards than this and hope they think long and hard regarding the path they take!
Hope the community can in an ordered and constructive fashion enlighten ArenaNet that this is not the game we bought and hoped to be playing years to come!
Cheers, Agaetis
