We Came To Dance [WCTD]
We on ET would like to thank SF for some awesome field battles, a lot of our players have stated their slayer achievement counts are skyrocketing. I would also like to thank you guys for teaching us the value of siege at stopping giant zerg and allowing us to receive 100 badges of honor. Again, thanks SF, hats off to you, good luck on your world record.
That fight at the red tower last night was fantastic, kudo’s to you guys for playing so well. Honestly we were a somewhat mindless zerg and you guys were incredibly organized, sending out groups to attack trebuchets, using siege engines to great effect. In the end we won by attrition, but you certainly got the better of us most of that fight. also, please know that the world record jerks do not speak for most of the SF community.
I’ve gone through and read some of your posts. You are a gentlemen’s gentleman and I would like to shake your hand. Seems it really takes a rare kind of person to come in from the dominating team and respectfully acknowledge those opposing them.
There is a lot of good feedback ITT, but there’s seems to be a few points that we all either agree or disagree on:
1. That transferring to a winning server is a way to reap better benefits from winning more often (Crafting buffs, Exp boosts, etc) as well as it increases morale of players.
2. That transferring to a winning server is a quick way to start winning more often and essentially take the “easy” way out instead of trying to organize a losing server.
3. That transferring large amounts of players to a new server actually has a HUGE negative affect on the server said players are leaving.
4. While it is not really “noble” to abandon a server you have been playing for, moving to a lower tier with your guild, may be more beneficial at proving your worth on the battlefield.
IMO servers with smaller population have no choice but to out smart the server with numbers. I’m certain that being out numbered in a match, you will learn new strategies and employ them more effectively against servers with more numbers. Because the numbers server doesnt need to have any strategy. When we recently went up against FA, sure we lost, but all they had were numbers, their strategy, or lack their of, was not comparable to ours.
Even with strategy, trying to take a fully upgraded keep with half the number of players at your disposal is extremely difficult. It’s chalked up more with luck (That they have less players online) and even when you take it, 2-3 hours later they have swept the whole map again (When the kiddies get out of school).
The issue is the redering. Otherwise stealth is fine. I hate thieves but i dont want to see them being destroyed. But its really sad that every thief you find in wvw has the same build and combo.
If you have played a thief, you’d find that we really don’t have many options. Even the ones we did have, have been severely nerfed because of people complaining. Most thieves run Dagger-Dagger because it maximizes damage output, and that’s exactly the type of class best suited for thief, single-target damage. We have a lack of AoE for our weapon sets, so many thieves use a shortbow in WvW. As far as being effective in WvW, you are really only going to see D-D, Sb, or D-p.
I am also curious about this. When the game first game out I was under the impression that Commander Book would allow a player to make a 25-man group. I don’t know where I heard this, but it ended up just being a rumour I suppose.
Any indication as to whether or not something like this will be implemented? I would love to be able to sit in larger groups of 10 or 15 instead of having to make several smaller groups.
You think Maguuma is a winning server?
sorrows furnace too…our positioning either puts us on top of servers who belong in tier 7 or servers who fall out of tier 5. its really an un-fun roller coaster ride most weeks
Just to reiterate, Maguuma has won exactly twice out of however many matches there have been (both the 1 day and week long). People are definitely not coming here to win. Mag’s kept it’s steady ranking because we gain roughly the same amount of total points every match up, which generally puts us in 2nd place more often than not.
Mag plays for murder, fun, and miniature flags.
I have yet to see Maguuma or Sorrow’s lose in a match against ET. Unless they 3 played simultaneously.
At the end of the match, regardless of what side you played for, there is no reward for participation.
Throughout the week you either had fun or you didn’t and losing isn’t fun.
Perhaps it is just me, but I don’t find dominating all the opposition that fun. I don’t know how anyone could have fun owning everything in WvW and having outrageous numbers. There’s no challenge.
Call this a rant, but it seems to me that a lot of guilds (And key guilds at that), are leaving WvW servers that aren’t fairing well in the ratings. It seems to me that instead of jumping ship because things are going south, players should be more inclined to join the losing servers to show that they really can make a difference.
On a few occasions now I have seen large guilds leave my server because they “Are sick of people not listening in WvW.” So what do they do? They join a servers like Maguuma or Sorrow’s, servers that are always doing well in their tier. Which, to me, seems like a counter-intuitive approach. Bring your guild to a server that you are always beating, show that you ACTUALLY matter in the spectrum of WvW players.
We are making WvW hard on ourselves when we leave to join winning servers. We just make the servers we leave that much weaker, and that does nothing for morale.
I am on Eredeon Terrace, and we have been in last place almost routinely every week for the past month or so. One of the contributors to this was the transferring of our largest WvW guild. We lost a huge portion of our numbers and while we still fight with the best of them, it’s nearly impossible to compete against servers that have huge numbers.
Bump for potential.
Altar of Force
I think the altar of power should be a permanent realm object, as in, it only ever applies to the appropriate realm in their borderlands. Rather than have it as a movable object that applies (and stacks) buffs on whichever team collects the most, I think it should become a debuff if it gets destroyed.
Let me explain:
We all know this 3 orbs of power thing is clearly flawed, hence it’s removal. Giving that huge of an advantage to whichever team owns the 3 orbs makes WvW unpleasant as it is hard to recover when they have +150 stats and +15% life. Some will argue that it doesn’t make them that much harder, to you I say simply look at the stats.
So what can we do about this Air?
Simple, the altars, if destroyed, should apply a 5 minutes debuff to whichever realm they belong to. This debuff can be, for example, a -10% all stats, or maybe we can make it interested and have it randomized from one of many:
-15% HP
-15% Power
-10% Defense
-10% All stats
-20% precision
- etc…
So how do we cover potential exploitation and make it fun?
We make a 5 or 10 minutes debuff, or for the length of time the altar is damaged. Players may bring supply to help rebuild the altar and each 10 supply will remove 2 seconds from the rebuild time. The sooner players repair their altar, the sooner the debuff goes away. Furthermore, once the altar has been rebuilt, there is then a 30 minutes cool down before it can be attacked and destroyed again.
This debuff DOES NOT stack as each altar (1 for each server) only applies to its family server.
I am open for any suggestions regarding this. I think that the altars are much more useful as a method of debuff the opponent, rather than supplementing with stacking buffs.

Good thing you have the mental age of a 16 year white gangsta. “effin p*ssy B*tch” – really makes for a tasteful, enjoyable video.
Thieves, they get perma stealth due to this last patch.
Second would be mesmers, all their builds destroy. From their clones climbing walls and killing siege (and taking 3/4 my HPs off in one hit with 2k toughness), to infinite number of players ports, and last but not least: being able to pull me over walls and in some case right through solid objects.
I can definitely see how thieves are worse.
God, please do this! I don’t even know why this isn’t already a thing.
I don’t see how anyone can say they don’t have a substantial effect… It’s right there in the numbers. 50 to all stats and 5% HP per orb….. That’s an additional 800-1k hp in some cases, and 3% crit – which is a considerable amount. With 3 orbs you are looking at 150+ to all stats and 15% hp. That’s over 2k+ extra hp. Which is essentially an extra crit. Combined with the increase in precision (upwards of around 9% crit chance), power, and toughness, and things are getting pretty OP at this point.
Factor in the zerg mentality… And you have a walking powerhouse of bolstered stats.
I am not complaining. 1v1 or 2v1 I have still stood my ground against players carrying all 3 orbs; however, when you have 30 of them attacking your door and 15 guys defending, those orbs turn the tide of battle in a very, very significant way.
I feel like a lot of people here forget that there is an evade option. A thief, at most, can only stay stealthed for 5seconds on any given attack, with the exception of Dark Refuge, which allows up to 13seconds in 1 aoe area.
That being noted, if you see a thief go invisible, you should probably just roll away in an opposite direct and try to face towards them. Backstab don’t work in front.
I will say, I play as a thief and I spend a lot time abusing stealth and backstab, but there are MANY players that know how to handle that situation that don’t post here I am sure. As a thief, I gotta say that mesmers are by far the most annoying, 3 illusions at any given time and the ability to stun, explode, and confuse them on you… Ughhh. Couple that with invisibility, porting, haste, null fields, boon pulling… What a bloody nightmare.
I actually like this idea a great deal!
The novelty of being able to find and connect with a commander who is interested in a specific play-style could be very beneficial.
Alternatively, there can be a special interface option for commander’s that will allow them to pick which front they will be taking. (Perhaps a drop down list that says: Offensive, Defensive, etc). Players would then have an option to filter based on what kind of commander they are looking for. I don’t doubt that the number of commander’s is going to grow and grow.
I have to agree that the orb buffs are just absurd…. +150 to all stats and +15% HP with all 3 orbs? It’s no wonder the server that gets all 3 has no problem holding them and dominating with them (Not to mention the NPC’s benefit from them as well).
They should greatly reduce the benefits of the orbs, or as the OP stated, just make them regional.
