Difference of opinion. I don’t feel like Engineers are the funnest class at all. Their awkward playstyle and bad utility skills prevent me from liking them as much as other professions.
I also think their traits are an issue. I tried many other builds besides bombs and grenades and it seemed like it was impossible to make an effective one.
I can agree, the biggest difficulty I initially saw with Engineer is AT FIRST everything seemed scattered in the traits and utilities. I literally sat down before one of the BWEs, pulled up a build creator, a list of traits, a list of skills, etc, and started tinkering. By doing so, at that time, literally I was juggling all the traits and skills in my mind until finally I narrowed in on the core of my grenadier build (which actually happened as I was laying in bed about to fall asleep and suddenly “OMG GRENADES!!” and next morning I pulled up the build and worked it all out. From there, I refined it, and over time, I’ve made four major changes total (I can count em, seriously). But my point is, you are right. The Engineer class is very broad and on first approach, it can be hard to find what synchronizes with what. But that’s part of what makes it unique. And with their recent change so Sigils take effect with Kits, it’s AMAZING what you can accomplish. What’s even better is I’ll run into Engineers running something else, start exchanging ideas, and start getting new ideas (how my recent change came about, which raised my Grenade Skill 1 damage to up to as much as 4000 once, often in the 2000-2400+ neighborhood).
I can see what the OP says though, there is so much depth and possibility to the class, that once you begin to understand it and see how things sync, it’s awesome. But it is so much more to understand the class through playing it and experimenting. You can’t gain a full understanding of this class through reading. (Okay, maybe you can, but that’s a TON of reading). I don’t even have a full understanding of this class, but it’s a class that encourages you to find out what works for you, and make it work really well. The fact that the Engineer is so varied and diverse results in what Mister Mustard said “the hallmark of the Engineer may also be what keeps that from ever happening.” And that likely, is a good part of it.
Now granted, I’m a Grenadier. But I’ve developed it so it suites my playstyle, and I benefit greatly from using Med Kit, Grenade Kit, and my other Utilities and Weapons. They all sync to fit my playstyle, and when I’m kicking out 2400-4000 per attack on average, and being able to dodge and survive, AND support the team via several offensive and defensive measures, I know I’m doing something right.
8, Engineer (first) because GW2 was a brand new world to me at launch. And permaswiftness was awesome for exploring haha However, I highly enjoy the activity level of the engineer and versatility so it worked well for me.
The grenade kit has good damage to effort return?
Maybe 5 months ago, not now.
No, it is definitely great. You just can’t expect to be the exact same player as months ago.
Oh jeeze I would hate land auto attack so much. Yes, spamming 1 can get tiring, but I LOVE the control I have over the grenade kit. I also love highly active combst to note. Targets that reflect projectiles like Jades in Fractals? Yeah good luck with autoattacking that. You have to place nades so they aoe those targets, not directly hit. Ever since the “nerf” to grenade damage, I’ve been doing more damage than ever with my skill 1 (over 3300 at times, even 4000 a couple times with 3 nadez, often in the 2400+, and this isn’t including condition damage too. I must be doing it right.) Frankly, at the current moment, I find the grenade kit very well off, been running it since launch so it is my native combat style. Ironically, with my recent changes, my biggest problem with tge grensde kit is the underwater swap cooldown. It’s a situation where it is high input, high output.
Edits due to still learning some stuff on my tablet :p

Different people, different play-styles. The default setup works fine for me.
Agreed, I use all the movement keys provided, especially in combat, as well as the mouse to do a sharp camera turns.
Asura – Male – Engineer
Sylvari – Male – Mesmer
Norn – Male – Ranger
Human – Male – Guardian
Charr – Male – Thief
All my 80’s, I’m a male so my characters are male :p
Whats your playstyle? I found leveling and exploring, speedy kits was excrptional but in those first weeks of the game, I had almost an addiction to it, which playing a Mesmer broke. Will you utilize Kit Refinement as well? I personally use Backpack Regenerator since getting away from Speedykits. Sorry, I cant pull the build up to givr more input, in class at the moment haha
Glad to see you found a good experience.
1. What? You get dungeon rewards regardless of server.
2. Can’t argue there but I find it so minute and am used to playing cross-server for dungeons that I forget about it.
3. Either they want a small world, haven’t discovered their options, or chose not to adapt I suppose, that’s something they have to take the iniative on
4. I haven’t tinkered with guesting enough to input here beyond knowing the stated
5. There are plenty of multi-server guilds for small communities and I find the game itself is a community and enjoyable. But, if you mean a server pride sort of community, then i could see thay, yes. I found I’ve made friends on differrnt servers and while my home is SBI, I feel apart of the game playing with everyone. The servers are differrnt homes, but it’s one neighborhood. (Maybe a river splitting NA and Euro physically but it’s still one neighborhood)
Personally, I have mine set to the mouse wheel click. But that aside, watch the ground for AOE circles, and learning the mobs. Keep your distance if possible because the larger the gap, the more reaction time you have. But it definitely will be easier if you know the mob and watch them.
Many harder hitting strikes will have a sort of wind-up animation as they are preparing to let fury loose, that’s your cue to prepare to dodge, or preemptively get out of the way (the best solution in my opinion). Those AOE circles on the ground? Those can be very early (or very late) warnings that you’re possibly goin to be slammed so move ASAP. Otherwise, it just takes practice and playing the game. A lot of the game is visual so watching what’s happening often will give you a warning to what’s to come. But remember, endurance is limited, so don’t dodge more than you need to. It’s almost an art that takes practicing, double dodging in a boss fight when you need to only dodge once could leave you vulnerable to a second strike.
Maybe fractal levels, but it is kind of necessary to continue grinding the lower levels to get the vials of essence you need to infuse your gear, so it all works out in the end.
Actually no, lower levels are not necessary at all.
Shards => 3 Globs
Glob=> 3 Vials
Never need to go to lower levels because of that, and having only gone from 13 to 29 last weekend and now at 32, I have about 18 shards, which means absolutely no reason to go back.
However, I would LOVE to see Fractal Levels account wide. I would be much more inclined to gear up my alts if they too could participate in upper level fractals and get the upper rewards.
Edit: Adding on Dyes to the list which I forgot previously haha

If you don’t want to use a resource that’s fine, but there’s also the consequence of not reaping the benefits of it since the easiest cross server connection tool. But if you aren’t happy about not being able to find people to dungeon and refusing to use a tool that helps groups and minimizes spam, that’s a personal choice that doesnt make much sense to me.
I’m sure over time servers will balance out. People will flow in and down the road surely Anet might close servers, long down the road, but some people actually like small servers and they can’t (well technically they can) force people to transfer.
And like i said, they implemented guesting which completely solves this issue you are describing, which you completely ignored. Aside from WvW, most issues for multiplayer grouping already have tools to work with.
For everything but WvW just about now there’s guesting. For dungeons you can pug with gw2lfg.com and almost never have a problem finding a group in a reasonable amount of time. From what you described, try guesting. Guest on a larger server and your open world roaming should be more populated. Dungeons arent server restricted so that shouldn’t bea problem either. And like Terkov said, they gave plenty of warning on
freeserver transfers ending and long ago stated they wouldn’t be free forever.
The only multiplayer that comes to mind that is server specific is WvW, which you did not mention interest in doing. Even then, you would be matched to servers hopefully equivalent.
Edit: Typos with typing on tablet haha

Personally, I’d say wait. Just save them up because by the time you are closer to 80, you’ll have learned the value of items and what’s in there more. Gear like that, from what I understand, comes with relative ease in the game so I’d say hold onto them instead of buying those. But, if there’s something you want, go for it! Personally, I’m saving for an Ascended Amulet then maybe more fun stuff after :p
On the question of: Does anyone here actually like to fight Invisible players?
Actually, yes. It’s a challenge and entertaining. Also, I’m a grenadier so that should explain part of it. I never directly target them, rather, I play to perceive where they are at a given moment and place my grenades. It brings a joy when a thief is forced out of stealth because s/he is down’d. It is literally the biggest challenge and I’ll take on thief teams to see if I can take them down (which is 50/50 most the time to take out a duo). But, I understand the point of the post, and it can typically be frustrating.
Well…I just typed a response and lost it in submitting…so I’ll put back just a summary of it.
This, is a brilliant question I’ve never contemplating to start off but after contemplating the question, I don’t believe it scales. Consider the Magic Find Booster (50%) and the Armor Booster (5%). Neither mentions scaling, and the Armor Booster doesn’t downscale. Furthermore, Magic Find does not affect the combat system, purely the drop loot system. So there would be no true reason to downscale MF, if you did, in a 1-10 zone, that Booster would be worth 2% (Possible Exaggeration).
Personally, I’ve never seen a scaling effect of it, however, I run mostly 70+ content where scaling wouldn’t be as steep. A great question regardless.
I can actually agree with the OP.
First off, people, please READ the OP’s statement. He’s not complaining about how to do it quickly. We all know how to spot a mob to farm something.
Secondly and more importantly, as a grenadier I can completely agree. I’m a VERY mobile Engineer and running through a Fractal 28 today, I actually just got tired of not having the daily so I farmed it on the Maw’s tentacles mid-fight while waiting. Which is NOT my point. My point of agreement is there are many playstyles that completely disregard this daily and it’s design. As a grenadier, I have a very mobile playstyle and am often out of harms way unless I’m playing careless in medium to close range. Even then, I’m kiting and keeping distances and my dodges are putting me into safety PRIOR to when the Evade would occur or being used to create distance. I’m not sure I ever actually have gotten Dodger naturally without farming it in some way, and it’s not because I’m not dodging. I think it could just use a little bit of refinement is all. But then again, it’s a game continually being refined so this a surprise after just being launched.
try that with FT for Exlixir build.. perma 25 might ? i bet warriors r jelly
