Factions introduced the worst powercreep the first game ever saw… 2 of them actually…
Save Yourselves … and … ShadowForm. Yeah maybe Nightfall added a lot that destroyed GvG balance. But those two really took the challenge out of PvE before NF & EotN even had a chance. Fast forward to now… 10% more damage isn’t going to even begin to compare. It won’t magically make dungeons easy for people who were so bad they were getting kicked from COF’s. It won’t make them a lot easier for the people who already completed Arah Explorables completely Naked (yes this did actually happen … no one’s really sure why either).

And it definitely won’t have any real impact on Zerging which is now the only thing this game even appears to be about anymore….

What you mean is that Anet rather introduce some ascended craps that encourage more zerging than making the living story much more interesting?

Let me just put something into perspective here for people who are arguing about ascended vs exotics.

Originally, we had only ascended trinkets. To do the math, this is approximately, 12 % increase.

Okay, so how much stats are we talking about then?

If we just consider the trinkets, that means that each stat gains approximately 11 stats per selection. I.e. each trinket gains an extra 33 stats and this is roughly the same for every trinket type regardless of stats. I use the term approximate because the stats vary a bit depending on the type and primary stat. In total, taking 33 as the true amount, we’re getting an extra 33×6 = 198 stats. with
66 more stats each in each stat category on average.

Let’s using a popular PPT example here.

66 extra precision gives about 3 % more critical chance
66 power gives 66 more damage
66 toughness gives 66 more armor.

Not too bad for trinkets. seems like a 12 % increase is significant (it’s almost like wearing an extra exotic trinket)

So how does this affect our weapons then?

so i’m not too sure what exactly the stats will be like bet lets assume it’ll be approximately 10 % based on a calculated guess from dulfy’s preview, similar to the trinkets. So that means we’ll get approximately 19×6 = 114. so no biggy.

Again if let’s look at how this affects our stats in for PPT.

so 38 precision is ~2 % crit chance
38 power is 38 damage
38 toughness is another 38 armor.

So what are we at now?

Power we’re at 104 extra, which is an extra 104 damage
Precision we’re at 104, an extra ~5 % crit chance
toughness, we’re at 104, an extra 104 armor.

Thinking about this as trinkets, that’s 1-2 extra exotic trinkets we’re equipping now. So think about this stat increase as having 8 trinkets or (7 1/2 if you want to be slightly more accurate).

Okay no problem, how bout lets look at far in the future, when the ascended armor comes out. I’m just going to crudely calculate them. Assuming a 11 stat increase per stat as per usual. We’re looking at about 33 per item and we have 6 pieces. So that’s 33×6 = 198.

The perspective is similar to the trinkets, so basically another ~3 % crit chance 66 damage, 66 armor.

So to add it all up by the end of all the ascended upgrades and we EXCLUDE the potential for infusion stats

That is approximately a total of:

170 power = 170 damage
170 precision = ~8% crit chance
170 toughness = 170 armor

I’ll leave it to everyone to decide whether these stats are enough to call for a significant advantage or not.

There goes the horizontal progression.

Once they raise the level cap. We will. It wont come in a box xpac. I dont think that will happen, but they have said they will not shy away from raising the level cap.

What do you think will happen once we have had ascended weapons and armor for a few months… the reveal of an expansion style dlc type of deal. With a new level cap, obsoleting your gear.

I wont be around to see it, but think of me when you realize they pulled the wool over all of your eyes.

They might raise the level cap, but that doesn’t mean we r getting stronger gears.
We might get new skills or utilities, U never know.

I still believe in Arena Net – also they lost a lot of credibility which this ascended gear bogus – the will get rid of the grind sooner or later and you will get to pick a item you want every 5 or 10 levels in FotM. It won’t be a grind for long.
Also, I doubt that future ascended gear will only be achievable via grind, they will go back to their basics and make most of the gear, especially the armor, rather easy to obtain. You won’t have to grind all day to get BIS items and once they did that, each player can again to what he wants instead of what he musts.

I believe i can fly, pretty much sums up w/e u just said.

I have no idea why they make it so that if you dc, you have to restart everything again.
This is like the worst design I have ever seen, and you probably have no idea how unstable this game is.

I hate it when I waste my time for nothing, and I feel sorry for my team-mates whom also have to redo everything because of my dc.

its +5 condition damage, on top of the already higher base stats. and thats with a FINE infusion. Imagine what an ascended infusion would do?

That’s only a blue-level infusion? Umm…

Ok, well. That means an orange-level infusion would be ~4x that, so.. ~20 cond damage. No concrete evidence in this case, but if you compare blue to orange on existing pieces of gear, that’s about right.

So actually. It’s not just a 40-50% increase to primary stats. With the high-end, grind-your-face-off infusions (that they are saving ’till we grind-our-face-off getting these crappier ones), the overall primary stat increase of ascended over exotic would be closer to 75%. GG? Ah, if I could spend the 60 bucks I spent on GW2 on a time trip back to GW1 instead…

You are making a lot of assumptions and your math makes zero sense on top of it all.

Tomorrow we will have the ability to earn Ascended Rings, Ascended Back Armor and Fine Infusions. NOT a big deal. As the system expands over time, (perhaps over a pretty long time, considering they’ve already said that FotM will be expanding over the months and years ahead), Arenanet will make what ever adjustments to the system they need to make.

You and others are imagining the worst possibilities when you fill in the vast blanks that exist in our knowledge of Ascended Gear and Infusions, extrapolate forward on those negatively biased guesses and then assume that the entire thing is set in stone, with no adjustments to ensure that the quest for ascended gear does ruin all other elements of game play.

Rings, Back Armor, Fine Infusions. Example stat comparison showing an ~ 8% stat boost between Exotic Rings and Ascended Rings. That’s what we know. Let’s fill in a lot more blanks with facts before we start crying that the sky is falling and also offer Arenanet some benefit of the doubt before deciding that they are somehow determined to ruin the game with some new arbitrary gear inflation!

It’s about the key aspect of this game, ""no gear progression"", and I would really like to have an official response.

I don’t think they are gona raise the level cap( not if they want more riot..)
, but it would be appreciated if Devs can really answer this question, and stop playing hide and seek.
If this is indeed the last time, I would just view Ascended gears as a fix.

I am asking for new tier not new armor, they are different and all I can find is this response ""We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on."" This doesn’t really answer my question here.

I am out if this isn’t the last time they are going to add a new tier, or you need to spend a huge amount of time to grind for Ascended gears.

I hate the idea of grinding for stats or grinding for survivability.

After reading the new blog, and holding my tongue on the subject until it was released, I have come a conclusion; I’m okay with this. There is one very important reason why; no upgrade slots.

You’re basically trading versatility for protection from a dungeon specific mechanic and a slight boost in base power. If you can’t add jewels to these things, or I’m assuming runes and sigils once they add armor and weapons, then the slightly higher base stats are justified. Think about that; you can’t put runes in your armor. If that was the case you’d want those base stats to be a little bit higher, so this is a pretty logical step. It also means that you won’t see a very high demand for ascended items outside of that dungeon. After all would you rather have armor with three percent higher stats or a full set of runes suited to your playstyle?

That’s the real comparison we need to make here; is ascended gear without upgrades better than exotic gear WITH full upgrades? Because that ascended gear isn’t going to have upgrade slots.

I think a lot of people are missing this…

We don’t know how Infusions will work. The Infusions slots could very well include their own set of upgrades as well. We even know that there are categories : Offensive, Defensive and Omni which have their own tiering as per Murdock’s statement that Omni infusions will be tiered as “fine” quality.

How will those not make up for the lack of Runes? If Exotic = Ascendent without any slotting, then what happens when you slot Infusions? Unless these Infusions literally do nothing against non-Fractal enemies, then the gear is objectively better than Exotics. End of story.

They said Infusions only add resistance to Agony…..

This is not what I had in mind when I bought this game.
I thought GW is not about gear difference between
hard-core players and normal players, and Elitists will never appear in this game.
I guess I am wrong.
I just hate the idea of someone can perform better than you just because he/she has more time to play this game.

I would really like to have a refund, Diablo 3 is a huge dismantlement,and now GW2.

The only viable build in pve would be condition necro, in spvp it would condition necro, and in tpvp it would be bunker necro.
Any other builds would seem to be weaker compare to other classes.
