How's the DPS for elementalist? Best? Mid-range?

Oh quiet you. Elementalists are fine, if not OP in certain situations.

Yes, it takes pressing more than one key to kill your average Orrian zombie. But if you know how to play one, you will never lose a 1v1 fight against another player. Ignore all these blockheads who came here from WoW, where mages could spam one button and win – here you have to know what you’re doing.

Most of you are in denial, why?

I understand your points in theory, but when it comes down to actually playing the Elementalist, I don’t find it squishy in PvP, or underpowered in the least.

Elementalist is all about how fast you can press buttons while still knowing what you’re doing, and which skill should come in next. It’s about knowing your skill order, your attunement order, and being fast enough to use them. If you have that nailed down, you will rip people apart as an Elementalist.

I haven’t even done all the story dungeons yet, and only one explo. I hardly consider myself a grinder, yet I am happy with my 4 gold and feel I can freely use waypoints, like when a low level friend logs on.

Rizzy, I didn’t tell you to grind, I said I sometimes do a dungeon. Talk about hearing what you want to hear…
And according to you, you HAD money, you just recklessly pent it all… Well, then it’s your own fault, isn’t it?

Mostly agree with you. Good luck dealing with all the fanboys who will simply accuse you of being an ignorant consumer and actually having the gall to expect that loot would be part of your MMO experience. Since I’m so negative about this game all the time, I’ll second that the graphics are absolutely beautiful, and the music, too! Two things they got unreservedly right!

Tell me, do you also buy a car without reading anything about it? “This is a car and I expect it to have automatic gear!”
“This is a house and I expect it to have wood floors!”
“This is a phone and I expect it to have iOS6!”

Again, why make an MMO if in the end, the gear you earn makes little difference? Would have been much easier to just make an Arena game.

Because some people enjoy actually playing the game, instead of enjoying the rewards like good little puppies. Not everyone is a reward-centric gamer. You obviously are, and there are other MMOs that cater to people like yourself; this isn’t one of them.

So just how do you suggest going about having fun when fun costs XX amount in game and you can’t sustain that kind of cost?

I don’t grind, but at level 80 you make more than enough money to sustain using waypoints freely. I play a few hours a night, do my daily, perhaps some PvP or search for omnomberries, or a dungeon… I’m sitting on a little more than 4 gold, and gaining a bit more each night.

Another person who bought a game he knew nothing about. Is it such an alien concept that GW2 is not a game based around loot rewards? If that’s what you’re looking for, then go back to WoW.

Situation untenable.

“The game is engineered around grind” – that’s your problem right there. Learn to live with the fact that this game is NOT about uber-epic loot like D3, it’s about the journey. And these farming nerfs are against bots, who similarly to you, stand there doing the same event over and over, and killing the same things over and over. Sure you’re human?

I was doing sPvP for the first time last night, as an elementalist, and I loved every second of it! I was invincible in 1v1, even in water fights (OK, I got bested once in the water, but he had sharks on his side), and I only found a challenge against 2 or 3 enemies at once, and even then I gave them a good fight!

I didn’t feel as squishy as I do in PvE, I could actually stand there for those few seconds to “Finish” someone off without dying, while 2 other players are firing at me. Ride the lightning + Updraft gave me an immediate advantage at the start of every fight. It can only get better once I actually retrain my trait points into what I want them to be.

I honestly don’t see the complaints against Elementalists in PvP as justified.

As a level 80 elementalist, I really have no idea what you’re talking about when you say you lose half your health in 2 seconds. I’m specced with Vitality/Toughness gear, and 10 trait points in each, and I can take 3 Orrian zombies easily. You should consider upgrading your gear, and not going as a glass cannon.

And by the way, you can use Cantrips when you’re stunned, which is why I suggested them.

What really gets me is getting pulled into a mob and then getting two-shot…all within a matter of 1 second. There is absolutely no way to counter this and it happens a lot…this really needs to be fixed. Ele’s are really hard to play solo at this stage of the game.

Arcane Shield. Armor of Earth. Mist Form. Any of these would help you survive much longer. However, if you ARE getting 2-shotted, then you need to replace some of your gear with Toughness/Vitality items.

Elementalist is a support class; you have so many skills to cripple, stun, knockdown, chill, and heal, that no other class would DREAM of being able to offer a dungeon team the same benefits as you can.

Yes, us Elementalists don’t outrank anyone on the DPS meter, and we better keep our distance; but it’s about time people stop whining about that and start understanding what Elementalists are for. It’s been long enough for people to have figured it out.

Can’t they make Gasoline free and just show us ads at the pump?
Or maybe in some 5-star hotel: Yes, I’d like the Premium Ryanair-Microsoft Free Suite, please. How many ads do the minibar snacks cost?

Stopped reading at “Get the best gear” – you cannot get the best gear in 5 days. To get the best gear, you need mystic coins, which you get at a rate of one per day. I believe you need 30 of them per item (could be mistaken, but the number hardly matters).

I hope they are able to add new weapons and utility skills :)

Not an important issue, to be certain, but it seems that across all my characters, I’ve played less time than I have with my main. Unless I’ve found some sort of time loop unknowingly, I think the calculation for either of these is incorrect.

Go to Divinity’s Reach, find the elementalist trainer, buy a trait point reset manual, put some points into Water attunement . Done.

I’d definitely say it’s unintended, hence a bug. The simplest solution for ANet would be to spread out the damage so the last damage tick happens at the end of the cast time.
