This is just another “We’ll do it different than WoW so it will turn out great!” concept that doesn’t work very well in practice.
Luckily there is no Melee strcitly classes. Everyone has a ranged weapon. use it.
Guardian.
Warrior Longbow and thief shortbow are completely incapable of killing other players at ranged too, but they are great for PvE. Does that mean they aren’t real ranged weapons?
If it cant be used to do massive AoE damage and tag mobs it has no use in GW2 DE PvE.
Because it’s not the way we were designed. /shrug
People seem to have this idea that all classes should be able to do the same things. I don’t.
I would normally agree with you on this but every other class is designed to be viable at both range and melee combat except us and maybe the engineer.
I’ll say it once again: Rifles!
Or just change the Scepter.@Shimond: What is it about Guardians that should prevent them from being viable at range?
Longbow feels more fitting to a guardian than a rifle and the scepter is traumatic to even think about so do not change it, just remove it and let us forget that it ever existed.
Wow dungeons are too much like paint by numbers. To finish one you just have to move and press the butoons when your add on tells you or the whole party wipes.
Yeah and i bet you did the Ulduar hardmodes.
I honestly think some people rolled the wrong profession.
We are the only class without a real ranged weapon.
No. And i’ll tell you why….Crossbow.
Oh yeah!
That would be awesome!
And pole arms that do fire AoE damage.
But a better tactic really is ping pong agro. Thief takes agro until the thing gets in close or hurts the thief, then he stealth’s. Monster now targets the elly, then a guardian comes in to drag him away from the elly, and while the monster is attacking the guardian, the thief unloads on him. This really is an inelegant way to have agro. IMO it makes the hate system insanely stupid…’hey I can hit skill 2 and everything attacks me, YAY.’ Really?
That only works well if you are against one mob which is why the bosses are so much easier than the trash mobs in this game.
They haven’t even achieved “bring the player” because frankly you’d have absolutely zip chance of completing a lot of the explorables with 5 thiefs or 5 DPS warriors.
You’re missing the point and I think a lot of people are thinking the same thing as you. You can bring any 5 players, but those players are not supposed to all have the same types of builds. ArenaNet intends for people to switch builds around so that there are people that can perform a control build, people that can be a supporter, and people that can be a damage dealer. The idea is that any classes can perform those roles in a dungeon, getting rid of the need to wait for one specific class to join you. They haven’t gotten rid of the need for roles and they certainly don’t expect people to all be in dps specs. People still need to work together and form strategies and while everyone can do more than just dps (everyone can also heal, support, control), they do expect that you’ll have a fairly well rounded group role-wise. So yes bring the player not the class, but said players need to adapt.
But then how do you explain “Play however you want” and “Play in your own style not cookie cutter builds”?
Why not put back the trinity that worked fine?
I never had to wait for other players, only people that relied on the dungeon finder instead of their guild had to do that.
Make it happen!
The scepter is not a viable ranged weapon even if they buffed the orb speed.
Asura warriors wouldn’t even be playable and Charr warriors would be way OP
I have to ask… WHY would that be a bad thing? Why does every race need to have the same stats and the same class choices?
Is it not enough that every class can fill every role thus removing the uniqueness of the classes?
Give norn a 5% strength, charr 5% crit, human 5% toughness etc. and limit their class choices based on lore.
Good for your buddy, tell him to enjoy his Panda’s.
As for me, I’m sticking with this game. I far prefer it, and love that I don’t have to throw $15/month at it to sit and wait on the dungeon finder….
sit and wait on the dungeon finder….
There is your problem.
PuGs are never good.
This is the final result of all the people saying “bring the player not the class”.
Enjoy it! It’s here to stay!
They make crafting require a pretty decent amount of materials and then they make it impossible to farm them?
What kind of logic is that?
Yes please!
It makes me feel like i am playing in a window and the lack of FoV options makes it even worse.
We need both zoom distance options AND FoV increase.
Im pretty sure that is a bug considering the concept art.

I think the second one is from crafting.
I agree, it looks like she is struggling not to drag it in the ground.
When running she should hold it with the blade facing up not sideways and in combat it needs to look heavy but under the users control.
Looks pretty cool imo.
They should fix the bug and make it into an optional feature.
