I use two monitors on my PC. This gives me a great advantage, since I can play the game in fullscreen windowed mode while keeping VoIP, documents, maps and so forth on-screen beside that.

ANet, I can’t help but use my second monitor, because failing to do so will hurt my team. However, it is simply not fair that other teams, and even my own team members, can not do the same.

Please nerf multiple display support in GW2, or give all players a second monitor. Thanks.

ANet, please buff trebuchet in WvW so that any treb operator can auto-fire and walk away from the game until the other team’s slave-elementalists tire of casting Swirling Winds.

Exactly, Lothial. We had to weather issues with perceived (and even some actual attempts at) WvW dictatorship in our alliance, and we’ve survived that quite nicely. The allies won’t submit to it.

ALS had ~200 members when I joined in October, and we’re less than 20 from 500 today. We did that by good performance, behavior, and bringing new players into WvW from PvE. The members we’ve gained from other guilds have chosen to do that without being asked.

The Anvil Rock Defenders is an entirely social alliance built on friendship and respect. That’s the only power by which I lead it, and it’s the strongest one in my arsenal.

Also, it bears mentioning that ALS and The Anvil Rock Defenders are wholly separate entities, and my leadership of the alliance does not carry into ALS having any leadership over that alliance. I was 2nd in command of the alliance before I took 2nd in ALS.

Anvil’s Last Stand [ALS] is a nearly full guild on Anvil Rock, a server which is competitive in its tier. ALS has ~30 players online at our weakest hour, and ~100 at our strongest, with ~200 logging in daily.

I bought GW2 specifically for WvW, and because I was impressed by the underwater combat videos on YouTube, having been a GW1 player for over 7 years.

To answer your question about server ranking:

It’s possible that winning a tier may move a server into the next tier, but this is dependent upon the accrual of points for that server in the current match up, versus the other servers’ scores. The GW2 modified Glicko 2 rating system forces servers to show actual points performance over time to improve their ranking relative to all other servers. Winning 1st place in a tier by a very small margin, like Anvil Rock did in last week’s match, can cause what happened in our tier: We won the week, but remained 2nd place in the tier due to Borlis Pass’ higher rating which held over from their previous weeks in the tier above ours. This is because according to recent points history for Borlis Pass, Anvil Rock, and Northern Shiverpeaks, the Glicko 2 formula still calculates that Borlis Pass is likely to perform better than the servers below it.

What Lothial says is true enough. We do, however, welcome transfers of good team players. The people I know are not over-loyal to the point that we don’t gladly welcome anyone who joins up with the simple goal of having fun with solid teamwork.

What would we do? “OK, EVERYONE READING THIS, GO TO CITADEL.” I’m great at following orders on the field, but if it were given in the pejorative, “I’m the boss and you’re ignorant” way that happens too often, I might ignore that order and stand right next to you, being as useless as possible—maybe kill an eagle gryphon.

It’s a far more dynamic problem than simply “they aren’t reading it” or “they aren’t listening to me.” Also, many commanders seem to exclude themselves from criticism, thus rendering themselves unaware of perhaps half of the potential reasons for why “the pugs” aren’t “listening.”

There are many reasons why any given PuG may not follow you or play the game well, but being a “pug” is not, in and of itself, the reason.

I’ve done some corpse desecration in my time, Fallentes, and it’s great fun, but also situational. Yes, I’m arrogant sometimes. I won’t dance on just any corpse: Only the corpses that I judge to truly deserve it.

For instance, if you’re corpse-spying on my army, I’m going to desecrate you. But, if I lead a group to victory in a more or less fair fight, I’m probably too concerned with planning and commanding than bothering to sit on your dead face. Or, maybe not. Maybe I’m AFK for bio-break, and the enemy’s grave looked cozy enough for while I’m gone.

Perhaps I recognize the character or guild tag, and I want to anger, amuse, or distract them. I may simply need their entrails to finish decorating an Endexa Ram for the upcoming alliance sacrificial gathering.

There are many reasons not to go on Vent, but no reason whatsoever as to why you can’t work on Map Communication as well as Vent Communication.

Conversely, we also have some players who admittedly (they’ve said as much) type like kittens, and can only communicate by voice while fighting in-game. This is why our guilds and alliances provide for both means.

The fact that consistent, effective, and useful Guild communications and politics, in Guild Wars, still requires entirely third-party systems (along with the personnel and resources to accomplish them) is asinine.

It equates to off-loading (out sourcing) the linchpin of the game’s infrastructure.

My two level 80 characters (Warrior first, Mesmer second) were leveled from 2 to 80 almost exclusively in WvW. I’ve given ~200 hours to my Warrior and nearly 900 to my Mesmer.

I have always, without exception, profited monetarily from entering WvW, and I average 1 to 2 gold per session, without trying to do it.

Having held this conversation in The Anvil Rock Defender’s VoIP server some days ago, I came to essentially agree with what styx has said here, and fundamentally disagree with what Jscull says (including his sour attitude).

Right, and that presents two distinct types of “server transfer”: Guild coordinated, “mass” transfer, and individual player transfers. I was addressing a concern about guild coordinated transfers, which Anvil Rock can’t receive so long as our server is considered by ANet to be full.

Besides most of them are here for PVP since we’re considered as the best pvp server. If only we could get those hardcore pvpers to get in wvw, but our weakness will still be time coverage when most of our players are NA based.

I’ve spent some time recently with some sPvP players, including a recently formed WvW guild created by sPvP players looking to run together in WvW. Playing with them while connected to their VoIP server was fun. However, it also revealed some differences between PvP and WvW styles. For example, although the PvP crew was about 20 people, 3 5-man parties, plus some PuG, the PvP crew used combo fields very well, within and without the premade parties.

On the down side, they, like we’ve seen here from [PAXA], had no stomach for outmanned conditions in WvW, and they went back to their comfort-zone in sPvP after wiping on larger armies 3 times.

I suppose. Despite having been in WvW for more than 1000 of my 1200 Guild Wars 2 hours thus far (I know this by the age of my two level 80 characters, which I took from level 2 to level 80 almost exclusively within WvW)… I can still only sympathize.

Seems to me that (and I mean generally, not you, Kar) the players whom only enjoy and become obsessed with a single mode of a well rounded game, like GW2, are the ones that we find alone, not representing a guild, or representing one we’ve never heard of, in Eternal Battlegrounds at 4am EST this past Saturday, mewling incessantly like a gutted kitten for more than an hour as I /sleep in mid-air next to them while wearing my commander dorito.

They’re the people who feel personally insulted and angered in these times. They feel cheated, as if we are collectively conspiring to ruin their fun.

I want those people to fall off a cliff, one by one, so I can savor each crunchy splat. They’re welcome to transfer up a few tiers, and join in the circle of collective self-hatred enjoyed around those parts.

In the mean time, I’ll keep practicing my skills in kitten strangling. Mewl on, little kitties.

So, in the end, I think that the outmanned servers aren’t having fun (I’m not) playing Kaineng, so we are letting Kaineng pass, rather than bang our heads against a wall.

As a side note, I like this tier for what it is and the great battles we’ve consistently had against evenly matched servers such as NSP. If AR were to get massive guild transfers and started steam-rolling people, I would probably transfer elsewhere. I personally don’t find being on either side of unbalanced fight very fun. Anyways, I wish the best of luck to Kaineng and I hope you guys do well in the higher tiers. It is nice to see the server I started on climbing the ranks.

I’ve had lots of fun. Allies coordinated significant defenses on our home borderland for 8 hours following Friday reset. When we get frustrated, we don’t blame Kaineng. Instead, we go into PvE, level up some alt characters, discover jumping puzzles, 5-man some dungeons, etc.

Then, when we’ve cooled off and are ready for more WvW, we bring tens of new players into WvW by use of recruiting, promotion, and dropping Guild boost banners. We train them on basic strategies and tactics, and show them how WvW works.

I try to spend some time each week playing with a group of people I’ve never met before. Sometimes it gets me onto a guild VoIP server I didn’t know about, and I make some more friends.

If Anvil Rock got “massive guild transfers”, then those transfers would have to contend with the fact that we are not a pre-transfer server of the class which Kaineng was a few weeks ago. However, this isn’t even possible while Anvil Rock is classified as fully populated, so don’t even worry about it.

Leave the kids to play on the lawn, while we clean our house from the inside, out.

Just like to point out: According to one of your Peeps, AR had Queues on basically every Map: as did Kaineng. All Servers have the same limit of Players per Map.

I want to see the statement where ANet devs have been willing to specifically say that this is true. I’ve seen plenty of players claim it, and I’ve taken it as raw assumption of logic. The actual developer statements I’ve read are never willing to indicate a solid figure for the total number of players connected to a borderland map (roughly 500, but not exactly 500, and with ongoing plans to increase that estimate), which leaves no room to safely assume that there is a specific cap on the total players which is also divisible by 3.

@bradderzh there are ways to defend on that, and in all honesty that is a poor use of prints and supply on the attackers part. At work though, will work out a few new tower layouts after I get back in the game now that I see the strategies they are using.

In that screenshot, I can see two locations on the wall where I would deploy arrow carts to nuke those catapults. One superior arrow cart may have been sufficient to end that attempt, though that isn’t to say that Kaineng wouldn’t have eventually owned that tower.

I don’t give a kitten about player/guild transfers, or the fact that Anvil Rock has to endure an outmatched week while Kaineng passes through. What matters to me is that we have fun, and fight well. We’re having fun and fighting well. Siege on!

I don’t believe that transfers have broken anything. Yes, it can be frustrating when player transfers rain down upon an opponent server, and yours suffers for a week or more from it. However, there is no feature of the server ratings system which can be broken by player transfers. The temporary imbalances caused by transfers are a feature of the system, and they aren’t a broken feature.

Believing otherwise, I think, is believing a silly fantasy. This is a fantasy game, though!
