IoJ lost much more rank than NSP did last week. If that continues, then there are two possible outcomes, and both involve IoJ moving down to Tier 7. The only question there is whether or not GoM pushes past NSP to become the new Tier 6 red server.

Good showing tonight, DH, and good work with the multiple-gate attacks on your BL. Trading your keeps back and forth while chasing your zergs around was fun, but at nearly 5 hours in I did have to let ALS and friends focus on our BL and EB, and leave you to reclaim your last tower and camp.

Yeah, DH could possibly be trading off both Tier 6 opponents for the 3/22 matchup. DH would stay blue, and be on its way to becoming the new Anvil Rock of Tier 6.

NSP would be your red server, and you’d immediately be accused of playing for second.

PS: NSP will probably ask you to dress up like Anvil Rock for a bit of roleplay.

Round 2 for this Tier 6 will decide whether or not we’ll have a round 3.

Fun fact: Brolis Rock was born from that which happened naturally. AR planned the occupation of NSP independently, and BP merely allowed it to happen for half the week without much argument, then came in for more serious fun once NSP had already “taken the week off” and their BL was officially renamed New Anvil Rock Borderlands.

It’s like the childhood friend being demanding while playing a fighting game on console. “Wait, I want to try this combo,” every fight, multiple times per fight, when all you’re trying to do is casually play the fight out for fun and a win.

Playing the game unlike your opponent is such an exploit!

I like using the 5min buff, within a 15 min point cycle, against my opponents.

If you’re not already defending locations for points, then why would more frequent point accrual convince you to care about points that you don’t care about?

Nah… it’s quite obvious that the solution to your problem has always been increased and more numerous character and account rewards for defense events: tipping the balance so that we profit from defending.

A) Anvil Rock generally plays GW2, not forum wars. I’ve not seen our WvW crowd highly active in anything outside of the game and also related to the game. It takes some serious forum-borne lulz to get most of us to even read it, and that spreads by word of mouth in Teamspeak, first.

Siegerazer should be recast as the shepherd of the cow pasture which lies where Stonemist used to rest.

The answer has always been stupid-obvious: Keep tier colorization and glicko2, but calculate each server against nearest-neighbor, except for top and bottom server (which are each calculated in the tiered way, because they’re missing a neighbor.)

Ranks would be more volatile, but that’s not a bad thing in a game that never ends.

What breaks glicko in the current use case is the fact that historical rank actually prevents the servers at the edge of the tiers from fighting each other to determine which of those two deserves to gain or lose rank based upon their relative strengths.

Edit: This is because we’re calculating in threes instead of pairs of opponents. The mere fact of being pitted against a very weak opponent has the effect of stifling a powerful server’s rank growth. When this is done in matches of three, the effect is amplified, and because the next match is more likely than not to be the same opponent again, the stifling becomes a trend.

You can’t accomplish their decisive battle without actually letting them fight. To cause glicko to allow them to fight in cases like Henge of Denravi and Sorrow’s Furnace right now, you have to calculate glicko against nearest neighbors, and not restrict it to your fancy tiers.

PS: The current ratings data is poisoned by the tier system, and the above would not fix it as-is.

I’m hoping that commander/raid UI is part of 2013 WvW improvements. I would quit playing if it weren’t, and could easily lose interest before it happens.

The moderator whom infracted the OP should publicly apologize. The one that infracts/deletes this post should apologize twice. It is basically against the rules to say the word “moderator”, after all.

THE Guild Wars lore is fairly silly in this regard, anyway. I’ve never seen nor felt any remarkable correlation between THE Guild Wars and anything that has ever happened relative to any guild I’ve been involved with in GW1 or 2.

Anything that happens in the fabled PvE, even considering the group events and guild missions and what-not, is still entirely separate from whatever guild I may have done it with.

And uh… you won’t catch me trying to roleplay a connection between lore and guild, to compensate: how unfathomably tedious that could be.

I think that the things people hate most about breakout commander are intentional and precisely why it was implemented as-is.

If a server is locked out of a map, but they have 10 or more persistent players trying to break into the map, then they deserve the benefit of the NPC.

If a server is locked out of its own map or EB, as Anvil Rock did to both of its opponents this morning (NA morning), then the server deserves to be able to spam the event until they wear down their obviously over-powering opponent.

When the event is spawned by just enough to start it, but not enough to compete on the map, I’ve personally witnessed Anvil Rock destroy those players and kill the NPC before it even gets to the target tower. Persistence can be matched by equal or greater persistence.

The central argument I see here is, “why doesn’t my opponent just lie down and take it?”

I’ve heard this said on our Teamspeak, about other servers’ players, ever since I started playing.

Personally, I do like to sometimes emote at brave players who thought they were going to assassinate me in the middle of a big fight. Especially if they leave their corpse lying around well after the fight ended.

A few more days of AR fighting DH and IoJ (without having Brolis Rock balance in Tier 6) has shown that IoJ has far more PvDoor timezones than the weekend had revealed. We’ll have better estimates once millenium.org gets its database fixed, but it’s now possible that IoJ will only last a few weeks in Tier 6.

Now mind you we have umm 10 people total on at any given time when we are not sleeping and what not we are used to zergs and we have been the type of guild to do the zerging so its what it is. Its gonna happen and all we can do as people is get better at our game. Well i just wanna know why is it when im there or others from my guild are there and we get killed we see people from AR or DH laughing? Through the weekend in Tier 6, IoJ has not been roflstomped so easily that they are your Tier 8 savior. Our tier can beat them, and has a chance of pushing them into Tier 7, but they are comparable to the other servers that we’ve pushed down to 7.

Tier 8 will likely have to wait for Tier 7 to flatten its ratings and push HoD down into Tier 8.

Not taken personally at all. Was amusing (though unfortunate). All 3 servers chose a tunnel and built ballistae at the lord-room-facing exit. The lord room was mostly empty for last minutes of the fight, but culling and lag stopped most players from knowing that.

DH was calling out the event timer and sending people in through the waypoint. I held the ramp down into the room, with all the AR able to get in and brave enough to stay there, for 20 minutes while you built your ballistae and arrow carts in the room.

The north arrow cart was funny… just didn’t work in your favor. If the stalemate had held longer, DH may have lost their keep. We were going to focus their keep while you fought your last battle at Stonemist south, but couldn’t get the PuG to follow away from SM in time.

IoJ: You helped DH with that flanking on us, defending the north inner gate with the arrow carts. DH had the north outer entrance, and had siege in the northwest tunnel, blocking us from flanking them on lord’s room. When you blocked our entry entirely, and split yourself to do it, is when they found their chance to kill you.

Good job on moving to DHBL in the last 30 minutes of the fight, though. We were pressuring their EB keep at the same time. That they stopped both was impressive.

AR had outmanned buff for the last hour of the fight.

I heard who dictate the rules on T7 is GoM… That’s why they can log in and NSP cannot…

My NSP spies have informed me that ANet awarded NSP with Tier 7 Politics to counter-balance the fact that NSP shares a 100 player log in queue with GoM, and GoM holds 75 of those slots any time 75 GoM players are logged in or trying to log in. NSP players actually get forcibly logged out to clear slots for GoM.

It just isn’t fair! ANet has apparently given Tier 7 Politics only to NSP guilds, allowing them to broker peace treaties between two other servers not in their own tier.

I am a player in the NA Tier 6 bracket. I am curious if there is any truth to the alliance of Darkhaven and Isle of Janthir. If there is and Anet people are on Darkhaven then what kind of game are we playing where the people involved in game creation are cheating it. Maybe i am wrong and none of this is going on but it would be nice to have a formal explanation.

Also, i have noticed that every time I WvW, Darkhaven and Isle of Janthir are always scheming with each other in keeps and towers without Kodiak being around

Lawls. Welcome to the tier. The “playing for second” bit comes from our past months fighting BP and NSP. NSP started off belonging in this tier, but it wore them down. BP never really belonged in the tier, they were simply resting from their previous weeks in Tier 5, and could almost always muster enough strength to shut down AR from taking a win. Some NSP players got the wrong idea about why AR would stay so close to BP score but only rarely take the win. Plus they just wanted to grief us, from their own frustration.

If you’re consistently having trouble holding your Borderlands and corner of EB, it’s probably because the tier has a mismatched server in it: Either an over- or under-powered team.

It’s nothing personal.

In Tier 6, AR and DH are a good match. Both teams know that they have trouble taking and holding land on the other’s BL. Both have commanders that smell blood in IoJ’s waters.

Nice defense of Hills on Darkhaven BL just now. Was a fun fight to ride along on. I was the Necro with the sneaky arrow cart placements.

WvW is part of the GW2 world. There are also points of interest in the Heart of The Mists lobby zone. Either you play the entire game, or you don’t complete the entire game.
