I do so because I play a guardian, I love the class, and id like it to be completely functional, it saddens me to see how guardians get nerfed and tweaked for the sake of balance when half our skills and traits are not working as intended somehow, Id say Anet should focus on getting the class working right, then test the meta and then balance it, because balancing for skills that don’t work and just theory craft is not fair imho.

I would also love to get some kind of dev reply from time to time to know if they are aware of the bugs, or if they are working on them or something, feedback would make maintaining this post immensely more rewarding.

has anybody tested merciful intervention since the patch? does it heal the guardian properly if teleport from far away or does it still fail?

Also, I’ve been testing orb of light a lot to check that about shooting in random directions thing. I noticed that it doesn’t really shoot in random directions, it has some kind of (tracking component) onto it.

Examples.

  • Target is not moving, the orb will hit the enemy without issues.
  • Target is moving, the orb will fly in intercept course attempting to hit the enemy while on the move, meaning it tries to predict its course. This has 3 possible outcomes.
    Number 1 The mob will continue the path and will get damaged by the orb of light.
    Number 2 The mob changes direction, the orb will continue to move in the previous intercept course and miss the target.
    Number 3 The mob stops moving, the orb will continue to move in the previous intercept course and miss the target.

This is why people think its flying in random directions, if the mob stopped moving right when you finished your orb of light casting you will get the impression the mob is static, but your orb of light will fly in the direction it though it would be if it didn’t stop moving.

cilox is correct, yesterday i was not able to open the vaults myself, the only reason i was able to get the chest on 1 borderlands was because an enemy elementalist was already inside and opened the door.

i just did a leap finisher while having 28 seconds retal and it jumped me to 36 on a light field, tips on how to test it?

Keep trying to stack that retaliation with various shouts, I did more testing, and I found that I can get as high as 48s of retaliation with a burst of skills, but sometimes shouts, combo finishers, and symbol of wrath will work, and sometimes they just won’t. It is super inconsistent. That’s the main problem.

tried again with 47 seconds, jumped me to 53 ;o, however i did notice that there is some kind of diminishing return or cap on how much retal you can get after certain time passes, because I had like 15s retal and popped a lot of cds not only the leap finisher and it did not go up. I presume is just a cap mechanic so you cant stack it up to ridic ammounts.

Bug / Hidden Feature: When using GS skill Leap of Faith inside a ‘light’ combo field (possibly other combo finishers that grant some form of substantial retaliation) that will take you to greater than 20 seconds of retaliation, absolutely zero retaliation is granted by the combo. Shouts and virtues on the otherhand, will grant above and beyond this arbitrary 20 second limit.

Hey guys, ive been testing renewed focus for some time and ive noticed that in rare occasions the skill will fail to negate any damage, you will be casting the animation and stuck in place, if you move the spell will not use its cd and u can use it again, its like it never activated. has anybody else experienced this?

Hi,

After a lot of testing, it is obvious than CLEANSING BOLTS from projectiles finishers in a light field don’t work; they don’t remove any conditions.
Moreover, the projectiles (be it from GS #3 skill or mace #3) go to random places.
All this makes this finisher utterly useless at the moment.

By the way, are we going to have a list where we request for better worded traits and skill descriptions? Lots of them don’t tell us the exact numbers, for instance, how much does SoA detonate heal for or what is the damage increase per boon for power of the virtuous (interesting behavior)?

Yep that swiftness post pretty much explains the issues it has, about the tooltips and descriptions i would also love them to be concise and easy to understand like the ones on gw1.

tried this.. i was not able to notice any difference, still super long aftercast and i cant cast anything for a few after it finished casting.

Bane Signet: This skill’s animation will now work properly when activated by greatsword and hammer users.
Line of Warding: This skill now lasts for 5 seconds instead of 8 seconds.
Merciful Intervention: This skill has been updated to heal when it completes and isn’t aborted.
Renewed Focus: This skill now functions better while underwater (players are able to use abilities sooner) and functions with the Virtues trait Elite Focus. This skill now also properly refreshes Virtue of Courage when it is being affected by traits.
Shield of Absorption: This skill will now appear correctly for all races.

Empowering Might trait is definitely bugged. Ran SE yesterday to confirm for myself and in the party windows nobody was gaining might on MY crits.

I checked the wiki description, says nearby allies, the range is really really short, make sure your allies are practically next to you or it wont work, also, it is possible that illusions and pets and other stuff ate the buffs because of distance priorities. Ill check it out when i get home

The spells behavior needs to be like 99.99% consistent on all situations, if it heals you when you tele close, it has to heal you when you tele from far away, the only possible explanation i see is that the heal somehow gets to your target faster than your character if you are far away, causing this little situation where you were not “there” when the aoe actually healed people around but a mili second after, this could be why you get heals when you are close since you were already there when the heal popped.

Is anybody able to confirm how the spell works now so i can edit the post to remove the fixed bugs?

I was brainstorming a way to make tome our courage more fun to use, my idea was to rework light of deliverance into a different spell.

Mark of Protection : Creates a symbol on the ground that heals allies inside for 600 +35% of your compassion every second. 1s cast time. 10s duration. 30s cd. Max 5 targets.

It would make it tic between 600 to 1000, which would be a very good over time heal that at the end would accomplish a very sizeable ammount of healing (less than LoD) without being that massive fight reset, enemies can still burst you down, but you could proceed to support your team with your spells 1-4 while the symbol is ticking.

Mind you the area of the symbol would be the same light of deliverance has right now, what would this accomplish?

  • Viable elite for all specs.
  • Since the mark has a short cast time it would free us to use all our other tome skills to support.
  • Suddenly all skills would be a lot more viable than just pacifism>>light of deliverance >> cancel elite.
  • The loss of stability would not be bad since you still cannot use it as a jailbreak to run away but still be able to support a lot with skills.

The reason im thinking this is that I believe the tome got over nerfed, while it was certanly op in its previous form, it took 3 direct hits that made it super hard to use on pvp and pve.

The loss of stability makes you so easy to interrupt your 5s cast time.
double pacifism cast time gives the enemy more second to hit you.
1s less daze gives enemy another second to hit you.
basically it went from 3 seconds of taking damage to 5.

I haven’t seen anyone mention it yet so I keep wondering if it’s just me, but my autoattack seems to turn itself off at random.

I can’t reliably reproduce it but it appears to have something to do with placing symbols.
Usually I use greatsword for general PvE and I jump at enemies using the 4 skill or Judge’s Intervention, then place Symbol of Wrath on their feet and when I don’t immediately follow up with the 3 skill (whirling), very often my autoattack is turned off.

I realize this is not gamebreaking but sometimes in the heat of battle I don’t realize it immediately and proceed to stand next to the mob like an idiot while not attacking at all.

Tested this, its not random, the auto attack wont start by itself if you start the chain off with a symbol and you were not auto attacking before. Its probably generalized that auto attacks wont activate from aoe fields on targets not being autoattacked before.

I Have noticed a few things on my guardian that seem out of place and would like a second and third opinion:
1) When using Renewed Focus:
a. I can be knocked back/down when channeling this (Not sure if its intentional)
b. Conditions on me, such as bleed and poison, continue to damage me to the point where I went down during the channel (TA dungeon, near end where tentacle girls inflict massive bleeds on you)
c. This last one may be just my eyes, but all my skills on cool-down stop counting down for those three seconds, essentially freezing my skill bar for 3 seconds.
I just feel this “elite” skill hardly feels elite when other classes get more seconds of invulnerability and can move.

2) The Hammer
When wielding a hammer, Anet replied to complaints that the banish skill was pointless because it knocked an opponent away from you that you had to chase down. They stated that the ring of warding should go up first before you banish. It is a good combo but ring continues to fail. Seeing as you got most of the problems already listed, I would like to add another one.
When the spirit hammer is summoned and it does its passive knockback, it knocks them out of the ring of warding. Kind of defeats the rings purpose in my opinion. I would think the ring would block that knockback too since it is essentially the same thing.

I’ve done several times this ring of warding into banish combo, the issue i see with it is that the ring mini knock back overwrites the long knockdown animation from banish when they hit the line.

Never seen the hammer knock people out of the ring, that situation never happened hehe, ill try to see it with the pvp trianing guys in a bit.

I seem to be getting a bug in Spvp/Tpvp where my SoA and downed skill #2 are not knocking back at all even when I am positive there is no stability around. Has anyone else ran into this issue? it has caused more than a 1 or 2 undeserved deaths and lost points.

Ive never experienced this, if my soa didnt push em it was cuz they had stability, has anybody else seen this happen?

I’ve never ever got any might from block.

Every time i block an attack with an aegis i get might stacks. Maybe it is just with aegis?

Only might I get is from with Blast Finisher on a fire field. Maybe something glitch if you get 25 Valor, then reset your traits?

ive never, ever gotten more than 10 pts in valor.

This major trait in Radiance states that Passive effects of signets are “improved”. However when equipping my +power signet, there is no visual difference in +power when I have and do Not have the trait selected. I even tried unequipping the signet, then selecting the trait, and then reequipping the signet with no results.There is also a certain degree of vagueness, I believe it is bugged however am not 100% sure.

Yes I already tested this in the mists, the signets all gave 18 of a base stat plus the passive with the trait activated.

Mercy gave 100 healing if you equipped it, and another 18 with the trait.

I have found an issue with the 6th bonus of Superior Rune of the Soldier – (6): Shouts remove a condition. It doesn’t work underwater. Apparently warriors also have this bug.

The helmet is replaced by the aqua breather underwater, did you make sure to add a rune of the soldier in there as well?

Couple things:

1. Resolute Healer: Has a developer CONFIRMED that the shield of absorption is SUPPOSED to knock back enemies? I know it is named the same as the skill on the shield, but I Just wonder if they intended for it to knock back enemies. That would make it rather powerful considering you can pop it every 10 seconds on a downed teammates.

2. Some bugs on Orb of Light (Staff skill):

  1. Orb will disappear into the ground when there is even the smallest hill in front of you. It doesn’t do it all the time and I haven’t figured out what causes it. When it does it, you lose it completely. Even if you try to double click for the heal it does nothing. It MAY do it more often when you have no target, it’s hard to tell.
  1. Orb will, at times, be fired in a random direction even when your target is not in front of you. Also if you have no target, it can sometimes just fire off to the side for no apparent reason. I believe it is still a functioning orb (you can detonate it for a heal), but still it is strange that it doesn’t always fire in front of you.
  1. It sometimes get stuck and seems to be flying off in the distance forever. The icon stays on the “detonate for a heal” until you click it…but you don’t seem to get any heal (and the orb is no where to be found). If you don’t click on the detonate, it just stays on that icon and won’t recharge.

I used the orb a few times on pve, and it did shoot at " random direction" once because the mob was moving at the time, but it really surprised the orb kind of predicted where he was going to be because it intercepted the mob mid way, i wonder if there is some kind of prediction component in that skill since its so slow.

Thank you guys for testing the symbols, quite interesting its the first kind of study showing how they interact with finishers.

From what i could tell is that the finisher will go for the field that appeared first as shown in the video, y u mad issue is that since the hammer tosses so many of those symbols the chances for it to be the one being there first are very very high, specially with longer and bigger since he has that protection symbol almost 100% of the time, so practically everything other allies are casting is landing over a light field. I also hate area retaliation finishers on pve but I don´t really see a bug here yet. What do you guys think?, if the behavior is consistent then its not a bug, but if the fields that proc are random regardless of order then its different.

About the Traited shield of absortion when ressing I wasn´t aware it did push back before and then got removed, i didnt get to play that early into the betas, if somebody could confirm this also I´ll move it to the unsure section so we can get some clarification if it is actually intended to or not.

pretty much, its like thinking of virtues as batteries. Say i have the justice battery that needs 30 volts to be fully charged, and my charger is able to inject 1 volt a second.

Now pretend we get a new charger that is 30% faster, meaning it will inject 1.3 volts a second.

30/1.3=23

think of this. if the recharge rate is 1 second every.. 1 second. even if its kind of weird, so if you make them recharge 30% faster thats 1.3 seconds every 1 second :P

cooldown reduction is different, if you reduce the total number 30s by 30% that makes it 21s, notice the different results?

That’s either a sneaky intention (approx 1/3 less recharge than you actually think), or a mix up on the formula, as 30% would actually be Base recharge*(1-0.3).

no cuz there you are doing base recharge *.7, which is the same as reduce the cooldown by 30%

Finally unlocked Grandmaster collumn. I have 30 Virtues, which should be 30% CD reduction on virtues. However, it’s about 27-28%.

Justice: 23s
Resolve: 46s
Courage: 69s

As opposed to 21/42/63. Or is there something I’m forgetting?

the wording says it increases recharge rate, not really reduces cooldown, ive seen other topics discussing the difference between recharge rate and cooldown reduction, which i dont remember exactly how they worked. prob worth looking more into this.

New recharge = normal recharge/(1+recharge modifer)

So in your example:
30/(1+0.3) =23s recharge.
60/(1+0.3) =46s recharge.
90/(1+0.3) =69s recharge.

The 3rd tier trait ’ Perfect Inscriptions’ does not do anything, at least from what I can perceive. Does not update the tooltip and none of the signets seem to do anything ‘extra’

yeah that torch ability does not proc the fury trait, but it is intended to activate with the burn condition, not the spell buff.

Boons Lengths -

I’m trying to figure out exactly what’s going on with my boon lengths (some are confusing me) and was wondering if someone could explain some things, or help point out whether they are in fact bugs or not.

Firstly, my build:

Runes: 2x Monk (25 healing, +15% boon duration), 2x Water (25 healing, 15% boon duration), 2x Earth (25 toughness, +20% protection duration).

Traits: 0, 10 (Signet Mastery), 20 (Purity, Honorable Shield), 20 (Wrathful Spirit, Superior Aria), 20 (Vengeful, Absolute Resolution).

Here are my findings:

1. I receive a ~17 second Retaliation when an attack removes my automatically applied Aegis.

2. I receive a ~5 second Retaliation when I activate any of the three virtues.

3. I receive approximately a ~70 second (yes, over a minute!) Retaliation when I activate a virtue, then lose the Aegis from an attack. Unfortunately, this is somewhat random, as I have also received a ~41 second Retaliation doing this.

4. I receive a ~21 second Retaliation when I activate Virtue of Resolve and lose my automatically applied Aegis (this obviously involves a stacked Retaliation).

5. I receive a ~47 second Retaliation when I activate (in the following order) “Stand Your Ground!” (says 7.5 second Retaliation in the tooltip), Virtue of Resolve and lose my automatically applied Aegis.

6. I receive a ~37 second Retaliation when I activate Virtue of Courage over an already applied Aegis, and lose the Aegis.

I do have “Save Yourselves!”, but at no point do I activate it.

This is confusing as hell right now, and I haven’t even investigated every Retaliation possibility or order. Can someone give insight as to what is right and what is wrong for me please?

I had to test this out when I was spamming (admittedly) some virtues and shouts and got 2 minute Retaliations in sPvP.

If a Dev wants access to my Character for whatever reason, just have to ask, but some of these numbers are completely absurd.

Ok this is how i tested writ of the merciful.

I selected the trait, equipped a staff and a greatsword.
then i took some dmg from the training mobs
popped the symbols on the ground.

I did not receive any regeneration buff, but i was getting healed for 202 a tic,

I also tossed some symbols on some random people fighting the mobs, they were already injured, as soon i popped the symbol under them they received 5 tics for 202 healing.

Thx 4 test! U right, its give few tics for 200+ healing! Excellent! It’s working!

P.S.
Bugged? Trait line – Valor – “VII” Mace of Justice (Mace damage is increased by 5%)
I don’t get any 5%… Can some one test it?

Should be really easy, go to the mists, get one of the steady maces that dont have rng dmg, test the dmg on 1 attack using the trait and without. then ull see

@Apraxas, tested in PVE/WvW and sPvP no regeneration increase on “hold the line” (works with other skills though) with the rune of dwayna.

And yes i never trust tooltip either (i look boon and chronometer to be sure), it just doesn’t work (same for retaliation 25% increase).

I have 6s regeneration with hold the line, not more. Since i use this skill a lot in WvW it really hurts not having the boost on it.

Judge’s Intervention sometimes bugs and will not teleport you to your target when they are on a different elevation and in range.

Occasionally Symbol of Swiftness does not add Swiftness when you run through it, or it adds a shorter 2-4s buff.

already added the symbol of swiftness bug in there, about the judges intervention its probably the same issue that the sword flashing blade, it will fail to tele super often if they are higher than me
