I simply cannot believe what Anet decided on us getting for the animations for this specialization after how long its been, they are literally all recycled with the exception of vault. skills 1-4 are just unbearably lackluster to the point where i may leave the game due to disappointment. I was so excited for this class and had so much faith in anet with its seemingly endless possibilities in detailing skills and classes to prevail in making this the coolest martial arts class ever made…but boy was i wrong. Some of you may think thats a bad reason to leave the game.. but to me and many others, aesthetics extremely important in this game (hence the gem store being a huge source of their income) and when I am playing a martial arts class, i want to actually see that my character is skilled at what he does and not just swinging the nearest tree branch he finds. I just had such high expectations, and with good reason with how awesome animations were to me on release.. but recycling the same stuff i have stared at for three years just seems like the biggest slap in the face ever..especially on a class with no flashy spell effects such as the daredevil. I am not asking for spell effects..but for gods sake make our body movement look martial artist relative so that when i am using these moves it still looks cool and not like an unskilled man slapping the floor with a pretend shovel (skill 4) or a sped up hammer auto attack animation fused with with a sped up backward dodge (skill3) Not to mention, all the skills seem to lack that feeling of a forcful impact when hitting an enemy maybe due to lack of sound effects or something..but they feel like slaps on the wrist not getting bludgeoned with a massive staff…I am going to link this guys idea for how all the staff skills should look that I found while reading in the daredevil thread because he hit it on the money for how i pictured these skills. Please consider making it a point to give this post attention if you want change before release, and please Anet read and tend to this issue please

Only other problem I can think of is with Impaling Lotus, which has a delay before it starts. Oh, and the special dodges go less distance with quickness.

The current staff animations are so unbelievably lame I don’t even want to use any of them with the exception of Vault. Why would they put one skill on the staff that actually looks good and the rest look like animations some random farmer could preform with a stick found on his ranch…this does not make me feel like im playing a professional martial master..just so disappointing.
I completely agree with you on the 3rd auto attack chain, that is exactly how i envisioned it actually! Instead we got an airplane propeller that we can magically swing.
I also agree with both dust strike and debilitating arc, You pretty much nailed them on the head for what I was looking for..along with an actually cool looking stance while wielding it, like the monkey king tonic as some suggested. I agree with many others in the fact that they put more detail into a kitten monkey king tonics Idle animations than an elite specialization.. like how is this even a little ok with them??
Im sorry but when i stick to a game this long and hope for something truly thought out and well defined and this is what i get for my dedication…why would i want to stick around to see the same animations i have been staring at for 3 years…Please anet do SOMETHING about this. I dont know if you thought we would not care or if you just dont care anymore.. but in a game almost completely based on aesthetics in pve..Yes we the players care very much for this sort of thing. animation are a very big part of this game to me and many others that set apart each unique profession and its capabilities.
I posted on here early about my initial thoughts on the daredevil..and after reading through again now, I cannot express how utterly disappointed I am I have always looked up to your company as the ultimate when it came to details. When I first played guild wars 2 i was so blown away by the fact that you took the time to make characters feet bend on slanted terrain to look fitting and many other small things that just made the game feel alive….and now its hard to say the same. The dare devil, despite its mechanical problems disappoints me the most in the over all flavor of the class. The animations are recycled and mundane aside from vault. Being a martial artist myself I was extremely exited the second I saw the very first data mine with a thief wielding a staff and being with you guys from release I felt i had nothing to worry about because you would flesh out the concept perfectly and then ..this. It is just disheartening to see you guys get comfortable with the business aspect and let the game lose the soul it had to it on launch.. I would wait another year for some true martial artist animations that looked suitable and a cool stance while wielding it…thief is that class that is solely physical, and unlike other classes with their amazing flashy spell animations to cover up their body language, all we see is the reused effects applied to a “new” class. I expected better and honestly feel we deserve better for all these years of support through thick and thin, with this being said I still have faith you guys are reading this right now and are willing to make this specs animations incredible before launch!
All that aside I feel you brought that soul of the game into Vault and some of the physicals skills such as fist flurry- now that’s cool! same with bandits defense, those two were done right in my opinion. Seeing those two animations I know what you guys are capable of and I will remain faithful that you will come through in the end

I have been maining thief for well over a year now in pvp and and I have to say I was extremely exited for this Specialization, and still am… but I have to point out a few flaws I find with it opposed to the fluidity of a normal thief.
- My biggest issue…Dodge rolls….Although I love what was done with them animation wise and the abilities attached to each, I cannot stand how my character stops for a split second after every roll..This also drastically hinders the effects of the first trait in Acrobatics where you get swiftness from dodging, not too helpful when you lose about a second of that swiftness from being locked in place. it really messes up the play style of a thief as they rely on maneuvering quickly and those split second moments can be a win or lose in a fight. As for dash..although it gives a burst of speed, the freeze before AND after its use are insanely annoying making it almost useless to run this dodge.
-Weakening charge, on that same note, weakening charge also has that lockdown / animation lock feeling to it losing its viability and fluidity. I also noticed on casting this move, unlike flanking strike for sword, when this skill is used while targeting a player you will not automatically dash in the direction of the player, instead you will continue to cast it in awkward directions you last cast it in thus making it very difficult to land and also burning initiative if cast subsequently.
- Distracting daggers, Equipping this takes entirely too long for only a 13 second window to throw all three daggers. I love the skill over all though.
-Fist Flurry, another extremely well done skill overall, but i feel it needs more damage attached to it as it is not easy to land all 5 punches on moving/dodging / warping / blocking players. I feel it would be much more rewarding if palm strike was truly devastating dmg as well as the pulmonary impact. over all though the flavor and animations for this skill are perfect.
- Some staff animations. i know this is not a game-play manipulating aspect but as a huge fan of what you did for the staff 5 animation and the dodge rolls, the rest of the skills feel lackluster. I mean debilitating arck, i was expecting to do an uppercutting back flip dodge with the staff on this one. .. and the dreaded shovel animation for dust strike could have been a cool leg sweep type move that could be used while moving (i know it can be used while moving currently too i am just describing my image of the animation.) I know It seems a silly thing to ask of you guys and i know animations are no joke in the programming world..its just as a class with not too many flashy skills to begin with, the physical maneuvering aesthetics would be nice to have.
That is about all I have to complain about, I hope my input is valuable and that others see these things as issues as well.
Please god no….just no..don’t ever suggest something like that….that completely removes all flavor from the class. They just need to change the coding so that it allows for instant moving after the skill is used, as well as changing each of their speeds (apart from dash) back to the standard dodge roll speed.

1. Lots of People create Eternity for sale. They get 4000g+ and 2 legendary skins. In my opinion Eternity must be Account Bound instantly after creating.
2. Anet please uptade Eternity Skin for something special, Not Day/Night Skin. Something like this

Honestly man, the best compensation to me would be for them to offer me a spot to work with them, it would be my dream to make designs for weapons and armor for Anet, But even if im not offered anything, just them using this idea would make me happy.
Wow I gave up looking at the post after no dev comment in the first month, but I gave it another look and happy to see how active it still is. I appreciate all the feedback and I have read some interesting comments from you all and I like the idea someone said about the hilt swapping the angel at the top to demon at night angel bottom. As for the looking glass effect in the twilight and sunrise blades as another stated, I imagine the one i drew as a looking glass as well, of coarse depending how you hold the blade it will look different (just like the others) but I want a unique sky-box that captures both a heaven and hell feeling to it. Maybe below the purple space area a reddish nebula to represent the evil side. Someone else also stated that it is too closely related to the others, well rather than remodeling the whole sword, I figured players would want the sword to represent the two it came from, just with a twist to give it that unique feel that when you see the guy holding this walk into the city it really makes you go WOW! rather than just seeing another possible sunrise / twilight. Also to those saying for me to go to Anet to work, I would do anything to be there : ) gives me hope seeing those posts. But again, thank you all and keep this thread active! Some must fight so that all .. may be free…

Here are a few bugs with eternity that I would like to address that are very serious to me. I understand the weapon had a few small effects added to it but I am very disappointed to find three of my favorite features on Sunrise and Twilight have been taken away from eternity.. This makes no sense to me as it is harder to get. So why should it lose effects??
-Whirling Wrath: No longer fires Twilight / Sunrise colored projectiles from the blade mid-spin. Instead it has reverted to the normal guardian effects..
-Pull/ Binding Blade: No longer fires Twilight/ Sunrise colored blades at the foes that were in range of the pull skill. Instead this has also been reverted to the normal guardian effect..
-On unsheathing Twilight and Sunrise there is a short burst of energy that resonates off of your character. This awesome effect has also been removed entirely from eternity…
I don’t know how many of you have eternity out there..but if I would have known these effects were taken away from the weapon I never would have crafted it. Eternity feels like a step down without them these effects made the separate swords truly feel legendary.. I hope this is fixed soon.
I would like to get real forests, no matter what kind. The current that we have, a small patch of land with a few trees, is hardly a forest at all.
Definitely wrong man, If this isn’t a forest I don’t know what is. Beats most mmo’s woodlands by a landslide.

I’d actually craft Eternity if it looked like this. I love the color scheme and it still maintains aspects of day and night but it’s into one persistent blade rather than alternating. I dig it.
—-It’s perfectly fine to state your opinion and to ask for support if others feel the same way Arc. You’re allowed to have and state your opinion just as Hanako is allowed to have and state his/hers. You can’t state that others are allowed to have dissenting opinions, and voice said opinions, without recognizing that Arc’s allowed to have his and ask for backing if they agree with him too. Can’t have it one way and not the other.
Of course some people are going to like Eternity as is. And some aren’t. That’s obvious. OP’s allowed to dislike it’s current state and suggest changes based on his belief. Isn’t that what this forum is about? One man (or woman) stating his opinion and others backing it or disagreeing with it based on their own opinions. Your opinion on whether it looks “good” or “bad” at night is entirely subjective, just as his is, and warrants no more value than any other stated opinion – including the OPs. Recognize that neither of you (nor myself or anyone else) are “right.” It’s just opinion. Condescending remarks by either side make you look silly and immature.
Asking for a rework of a weapon you deem to need it is perfectly fine. Are you telling me it’s not okay for owners of The Minstrel to ask for changes “AFTER” they make it? Of course people are going to still have opinions of skins/effects before AND after they make said item. Asking for a rework of Eternity doesn’t mean that other weapons couldn’t still get attention and a rework as well. It’s not like it’s strictly one or the other. (I think Eternity’s changes are substandard and are inadequate. Just as I feel other Legendaries, Minstrel especially, are still lackluster.)
Honestly man I made that comment not because I don’t want people to state their opinions on other weapons, but because there are other sub forums to specifically talk about those issues on. I wanted to make sure this would not become a post where everyone was arguing. As you said, forums are about opinions and this forum is just my opinion.

I do like your design, it is really good and a nice concept as it shows nice variants of sky and space combining in this blue fashion. And to me it is a better looking legendary. (would be better with a red/orange colour scheme at night)
But here is the part where I don’t like your post.
1. No, you knew EXACTLY what you was making when you went for Eternity and your treatment should not be special and get a THIRD legendary greatsword design whilst all others stick to one legendary design.
2. Your legendary in not THE legendary. And it certainly doesn’t deserve treatment over some legendaries that have been screwed other even with update (like the minstrel and meteorlogicus)
3. This will remove the day and night feature they wanted for the weapon and completely goes against the vision of eternity in the devs eyes. Granted some legendaries that look good in the devs eyes are lackluster in terms of quality and A-nets make belief, immunity to criticism doesn’t help getting the issues for these specefic legendaries resolved, but sorry to burst your bubble, eternity is not one of these weapons.
4. People actually like the current designs and your colour scheme might not be good in their eyes.

1.) I never said I did not know what I was making and that this was a suggestion to better the weapon.
2.) I stated in this thread not to complain about other legends..yet here you are, This sword is a COMBINATION OF 2, yes it does deserve special treatment.
3.) Anet are fine designers and I know they can do better on Eternity. Yes this is “one of those weapons” as it has been talked about since release why the difficulty is so high just to get a clone, thus the small update to it recently that most are still unhappy with.
4.) Seeing as there is no difference from owning Eternity or sunrise / twilight separate currently, Anet can simply give a sword splitter to the 5% of people that own this sword if they do not like the new eternity.
5.) Since you did not seem to read. This weapon is no ordinary legendary, it feels lackluster because you spend double the length of any other legendary on the two hardest legendary’s to make in the game. It deserves special treatment opposed to the minstril or meteorlogicus because the combination of both sunrise and twilight is about 2.5k gold more than both of those legendary’s combined. and I don’t appreciate your rude remarks.
I agree, My best friend is an Engineer and I feel he deserves dem foot steps and aura at least.

Yeah Kekai is probebly my favorite artist of all time..i admire him so. But I feel he designed sunrise and Twilight, in which case Eternity is the exact same two swords just jumbled up. its very possible he made up the first two sword, left Anet, and Anet kinda just mixed them without his awesomeness there to guide them on how to make eternity look.

I have looked at twilight from all possible angles, and no it does not share the look of mine, it has red and blue nebula’s spanned greatly throughout an almost entirely pitch black sword. Mine would look like Heaven and hell separated by the vastness of time and space, I want to truely capture the name “Eternity”. Within the blade farther down on the spectrum I imagine red/ black clouds similarly to how I drew the white and blue clouds at the top. I simply could not fit it all into one picture.
I really like the picture, but I have to ask… Did you not know what you were making when you spent all that time crafting two legendaries? I just don’t understand why you would spend hundreds of hours to make Eternity if you didn’t like the way it looked.
Well for one, I never said I don’t like the way it looks, the problem is it doesnt have a look. it is literally sunrise and twilight. I was also going to keep the two swords separate at first, but then they added the footsteps..little did i know that owning eternity gets rid of the spinning projectile effect from sunrise and twilight but also gets rid of the circular aura that bursts off of your character when you unsheathe the weapon. these two factors made me rethink my decision thus I drew my own idea. I really hope anet considers it.
No thanks… and yes – I am going to say something about other Legendary Weapons. We have 3 Legendary Greatswords. Arena Net should focus on making a decent looking staff instead of changing the Legendary which comes in THREE versions.
As I stated in the original forum post, this thread is not for people to complain about what other legendary’s need, and as much as some of those legendary’s may be accused of needing rework, Eternity is the only of its kind, a blend of two and therefor I feel it deserves more attention than a simple cloning, you cannot call it a “third” sword when it replicates its predecessors in an alternating form. and do not worry, new legendary’s will be out soon and I have a suspicion that because there were two great swords, there will not be a new one when the next legendary gen is released.

Precursors have a kittened high price at the moment, but I guess its due to the huge money spit in during queen’s jubilee. If this version of eternity would become a reality, I would imagine loads of people driving the prices of the precursor, in a ridiculous price then what it is today. Dawn floats around 600g while dusk floats around 790-810g. Now you can imagine eternity being a reality. precursor around 1k g? C’mon that’s a bad way to set the precursor at because simply one unique legendary such as eternity would cause huge demands. What about the people that only want one of the certain great sword, is it really worth driving the price in such high manner?
I mean I do love the idea of eternity you have there, but I am scared of the consequences which will come out of this blade.
Some time before the end of the year, all players will be able to craft the precursors themselves so no, I do not imagine this would be an issue in the slightest. By February i would assume the price of dawn / dusk will be in the 200g range.
As someone who put all that time and effort in to getting Eternity (side note, it is aptly named as it takes an… eternity… to acquire), I love this idea. I can see both sides of the coin though. You put all the time and effort in to get just one (or both), and may not want to choose between which you wield. Anet’s solution was to allow you to combine the two so you would always have one or the other. On the other side however, I can see why people say it’s a cop out or a lazy excuse of a weapon. You do put a TON of time and effort in to get this weapon and it SHOULD outshine the other two while still honoring and incorporating aspects of the originals into the new blade. Though I am glad I can finally tell the difference between my Eternity and someone else with Twilight or Sunrise in Lion’s Arch, I do feel like there should be a bit more to the weapon to not only reward those that put the time and effort into getting the blade, but to also encourage players to pursue it. What you have done with this new idea is amazing and I would personally love to see my guardian running around with it. Hopefully the devs will take notice!
I agree with your second statement of coarse :p but yeah, I feel that a player would much rather prefer the sword to look original so that when your in lions arch you don’t look at a guy with twilight and think to yourself..i have that same sword…only i worked double time for it. You know what i mean? I just feel it needs to stand out. that little gem is not enough for working for 2 imo

Well you see, the idea I had was that the sword Is imbued with night and day at the same time, so that you did not have to wait for day/night for your favorite look. The sword I painted simply stays as it is in day and night so that the wielder doesn’t feel torn.
As I have been reading from many people now, even with the small changes to the super legendary sword Eternity most owners of the sword are quite underwhelmed. Let me tell you I have been playing this game from release, and for me to just finish this weapon and see the exact same look of sunrise and twilight just kinda makes it seem less legendary than having sunrise and twilight separate. Yes the foot falls were nice, but having black fire and black footprints while wielding sunrise in the daytime looks very weird at least for me. I have to say I would expect no less from Anet seeing their fantastic art team to create an entirely original skin for the much neglected Eternity. I mean its name is Eternity for petes sake! That name alone cries out for its own unique look. So what I have done tonight is create my own idea of how I would love Eternity to look. I hope you Devs take a good look at this post and I especially hope they like my idea and use it in the future for Eternity. If you guys like my rendition of Eternity Bump this post and leave comments so that the devs can see and maybe take it into consideration The file is attached to this post, tell me what you guys think
P.S. don’t comment about other legends needing attention, in my opinion all legendary’s are fine, I am only disappointed with Eternity simply because it is the only one of a kind super legendary in the game..you work for 2 which is ALLOT of work and you get what you already had only you are at the beck and call of night and day..to me eternity is a step down from sunrise and twilight in its current state.
Ok so after a year of playing this game I have just finished crafting Eternity the legendary great sword and I am very upset to find it is missing effects. Yes this is after its visual update as well. there are two very key effects I found both creative and awesome with the Sunrise and Twilight great swords that have been taken away from Eternity..
1.) With Sunrise and twilight, when you unsheathe the weapons, there is a burst aura effect that resonates off your character that looks incredible. disappointingly, this no longer happens when I unsheathe Eternity in its day or night mode.
2.) As a guardian, when I used the skill whirling wrath with Sunrise or Twilight, the normal blue bolts that flew out of my character were replaced by golden bolts that matched the blade of Sunrise or black bolts that matched the blade of Twilight. The guardian skill Pull also shot out mini sunrises / twilight’s that replaced the normal little blue swords that fire out just before using binding blade. Neither of these effects happen anymore with Eternity in its day or night mode.
Please Anet fix these problems as this sword took blood sweat and tears to create..it was a long struggle and it feels completely unfair that 2 of my favorite effects from my sunrise and twilight are taken away from crafting this supposedly more epic sword…
I don’t feel this is a very well known bug as I am sure not allot of people have eternity..but I am a very artistic and detailed person and i noticed these effects were missing as soon as I crafted the weapon..please Bump this post so that Anet can fix it asap I appreciate all you who took the time to read.
P.S. I have some suggestions to Anet on Eternity as well. I really Like the new footfall effect and can’t help but wonder..how cool would that look as Eternity’s blade as well? I mean why not it would make it its own original weapon, then just change the Hilt of the sword so that the bottom wings are demon wings and the top wings angel wings like the little thumbnail Icon indicates. Though these are just suggestions I think it would be very cool and make eternity Owners feel more original and rewarded for all the hard work.
Waffer yeah I have a video in progress where I use the blasts from sheild and downed burst too :p but hammer just looks too good haha.
