Scaling does seem to be a factor – I got 9 from Shadow Behemoth, and someone posted in chat that they got 5.
I’d heard whispers that it wouldn’t be possible to salvage Dark Matter from crafted exotics, so it was a relief to get the 10 I need from the exotics I crafted to get from 400 to 500 Weaponsmithing. I would have much rather sold those exotics though, to offset the cost of all the ori and ancient wood I had to buy … ouch.
Between 2 and 9 Empyreal Fragments from various jumping puzzles (low/mid-level zones)
9 Dragonite Ore from Shadow Behemoth.
These two ingredients are all that stand between me and my Ascended greatsword – I have everything else, or will have soon enough what with the once per day factor. So good to know Orr temples are probably my best bet for Dragonite; I’m going to have to do a heck of a lot of jumping puzzles for the 500 Empyreal though.
I don’t know if i’m a farmer, or a completionist. A bit of both, probably. By the time the 3rd wave is dealt with and its time to take down Scarlet, I usually have 10-15 boxes from the various events; I do try to focus on the main portal invasions as much as possible, but if there’s an Aetherblade invasion within running distance I’ll go for it, and tag as many champs as I can until the Pirate Captain falls. So if the event ends successfully, I usually end up with 20-25 boxes as reward.
I am there to see the event succeed as much as I’m there for loot. If you keep one eye on the bigger picture, its perfectly possible to get in a decent spell of farming AND contribute to the overall success of the event.
I have 4 level 80s with 100% map completion. I’ve never been a fan of having to do all the WvW regions for 100% – 100% WvW map completion should be a separate WvW achievement, imo – but being stuck at 9-whatever % after completing the PVE zones bugged the heck out of me.
That said, I’m half way to 80 on a fifth character, and though I do intend to complete all the PVE zones, I’m not sure if I’ll bother with the last few percent this time.
It’s a gift, so I don’t want to be too critical, but I do have a suggestion.
The Experience Scroll isn’t going to be much use for players with a clutch of level 80s and no plans to roll any new characters, so how about this: give us the option of the scroll that advances a character 20 levels, or a scroll that grants 20 skill points. A skill point scroll would be much more useful for more seasoned players – going for legendaries, or for example upgrading mats in the mystic forge.
Just a suggestion
Yes, Happy Birthday to all my fellow 1 year olds!
I generally just throw sticks for my pets to fetch, and film them doing funny stuff for Youtube. My ‘GW2 Ranger Pet Tries to Fight Lolz!’ video has nearly 82,000 views!
you ppl are all high.
She will obviously announce more drop nerfs and more RNG with 20 sides of DR.
I am not high! That mushroom I picked and ate in Caledon Forest was entirely innocuous. Look, the walls are dancing!!!
So, one of the achievements will be to remove ‘Scarlet Was Here’ graffiti from Divinity’s Reach? :p
and ensure Queen Jenna’s speech goes off with not one but several bugs.
Fixed.
Lol, you’re too kind!
Of course, it’s all so simple! Enraged at the comely Queen’s betrayal, Logan teams up with Anise, who naturally turns out to be bad to the bone. They have a daughter named Scarlet, and with the aid of cutting-edge Asuran technology send her into the future to grow and train (in a series of action-packed montages performed to a suitably pumping soundtrack) and finally Scarlet uses said cutting-edge Asuran time-bending technology to return to our present and ensure Queen Jenna’s speech goes off with not one but several bangs.
No no, we get to vote on who the real father will turn out to be. #TeamRhytlok.
Dear Scarlet,
If you give me Entropy, I will happily cave in any skulls of your choosing, royal or otherwise.
Sincerely,

Pretty much what everyone above has said – do what you find most fun and/or what you feel is the best use of your game time.
That said, as far as this chapter of the LS goes, I would urge you – and anyone who hasn’t really – to take the time to check out Labyrinthine Cliffs and the Zephyr Sanctum, because they’re awesome and a real highlight of this update.
Another UK player experiencing lag issues. Of late I’ve had a lot of rubber-banding and skill activation delay in WvWvW, while everything runs like a dream in PVE. Now its happening in dungeons; rubber-banding, skill lag, and disconnects, yet in PVE no problems at all. What really sucks is I’ve just decided to start running dungeons after shying away from them before now, but if the lag and rubber-banding persists then so much for that idea.

All I can say is that hopefully the achievement point skins aren’t going to be once per account. Hopefully we get something like the HOM vendor, that way us players with several alts can use the skins on multiple characters (at the same time), if we want to.
I’m curious how the sprint race is going to work. Hopefully it won’t be too hard to get those backpieces since we have to compete with other players.
Yes, I was thinking about a HoM type system for the new achievement point rewards as well; I hope it is something along those lines. Either way, its great news that we’ll finally be able to use our achievement points for something. Time to start racking them up!
Not so fussed about the reward, but the puzzle itself is terrific. A bit tricky in places, and trying to land on a tiny platform with 10-15 other people certainly makes things precarious, but it’s a lot of fun.
Haven’t made it back up for the diving goggles yet – got close, but fell to a splattery death – but all in all it’s a welcome addition to the game.
Like a couple of people who have posted above, I have very little experience with the GW2 dungeons, but as a casual player/dungeon novice I do want to say that I enjoyed Aetherblade Retreat a lot, and no, I don’t think it needs nerfing. I completed it with a pug group earlier this evening, and it was a challenging but fun experience. We wiped a few times – I think once during Fizz and a couple times during the bombardment phase of the Mai/Horrik battle – but the fact the whole team stuck at it and we managed to complete it made it all the more rewarding. I’m not really bothered about missing a few of the achievements, as that wasn’t my motivation for doing it: I’ve loved this whole chapter of the Living Story, and I wanted to run this dungeon to experience everything it has to offer.
And now that I have completed it, I might just have found the motivation I needed to finally get around to running the other dungeons.
I posted in the other Obsidian Sanctum/Blackout Cache thread last night, after a pretty grim experience at the hands of Dragonbrand campers. New day, new experience: I decided to take another shot at it today, and despite a Dragonbrand presence at various stages of the puzzle, this time I managed to get the cache (and the jp chest too, as a nice bonus).
There was no communication between me and the DB players I ran across; they went about their business, I went about mine. Or to put it another way, I didn’t try to ruin their attempt at the cache, they didn’t try to ruin mine. That, I think, is all a lot of people complaining about the location of this cache are asking for. I do play WvW (as much as my inconsistent internet connection allows) and in EB or the Borderlands I’ll happily slaughter as many players from the rival servers as I can before one of them kills me, but I went into the jp with the sole objective of reaching the cache and getting out again as quickly and with as little drama as possible. Yes WvWvW is a PVP zone, but save it for EB and the Borderlands, where it really matters.
I’m still of the opinion that placing the cache there was a mistake, and I still hope that everybody yet to reach it – whatever server they represent – manages to do so successfully.
After trying and failing to get this cache just now, thanks to Dragonbrand campers, I want to throw in my two pennies worth.
I get it – WvW is PVP hiding under a PVE skin. That said, is it really too much to ask to set that aside for the time it takes to reach the cache? Obsidian is a tricky jp to begin with, but to get virtually to the end only for a handful of campers from a rival server to mow you down the second you’re in range leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. I think placing the cache there was an ill thought-out idea on Anet’s part, and I hope it becomes a mistake they learn from.
To everyone who has managed to get the Obsidian cache – well done. To anyone yet to attempt it – good luck.
Agree 100% with the OP. As a Necromancer Bifrost simply isn’t an option for me. I’m level 80, at the stage where I’m seriously considering committing to the time and effort it takes to get a legendary …. but Bifrost? Sorry, no. Offer an alternative skin for it, something that would actually suit a Necromancer, then sure, I’m interested.
