Assassin, yesterday I got Naga Fang which comes with Sup. sigil of Ice. Though it rarely procc’d it was helpful. I imagine that Freeze would be helpful if proccing on every weapon change and lasting twice as long as the Ice sigil.

I started using Quickening Zephyr, but it was really hard to give up Signet of Stone.

Still working to get all geared up, but am impressed with it atm. Really missing my short bow and attacking from range, but PVE mobs die so fast I will get used to it.

Sword+Dagger is new experience as is fighting in melee range.

I would drop Signet of the Stone and use Signet of Renewal instead. So you got Condition removal and a Stunbreak combiened.
If you don’t like melee-range, try to bypass the range with swoop, Sword and Dagger Throw. I am used to it already. Key-binded F1 to my Mouse, so my Cat is my Arrow .)

I dislike Quickening Zephyr a bit since the DMG-peak isn’t that great, at least it is a stun breaker now! … and you need to nail down your enemy to a position so QZ is useful for your pet aswell.
You could go for 10 in Marksmanship aswell, there you will find the Trait Signet Mastery which helps with 3 signets… (instead of 10 in Skirmishing)

Watch Exploits Video right here in the Forums – it is amazing. If you are beastmaster 1H/D combination and GS are amazing:
-1H gives Might to the pet
-GS #5 gives more DMG to the pet for the next attac.
Both sets combined give SO much evades it is rediculous!

Puandro, want to share some thoughts with you on this matter:
Since you dodge ALOT and gain Protection frequently, wouldn’t it be worth it to push boon duration, so you get alot more defensive and your pet aswell?
If you use 2x ‘Superior Rune of the Monk’ and 4x ’ Superior Rune of Altruism’ that would make 30% Boonduration. With your alternative way to trait, you would go 15pt in Nature Magic that would make another 15%.

Would it be worth it to drop Dwayna runes for this??

okay that is well explained. I wouldn’t use one utilityslot for ’sic’em’ then, Cats are superior dmg wise, you are right.
I love how you utilize the “thousands” Evades from S/D. Is there any other Weapon Combination viable atm? Axe has freeze at least, but the other attacks kind of sux, don’t even mention the #1 from axe is really bad and Sword kind of nice.
How about the Superior Sigil of Hydromancy? I mean are these 200 extra healin power really worth it? Hydromancy would really help with CC since we lack a bit of it besides cripple. What are your thoughts about it?

Really watched your Video twice now, I am really impressed by your awareness, although you did some very minor mistakes, I think you can hardly play a ranger better.

Questions I have relating to the mesmer and thief fights:
Does our pet traces them or attackes always the right one? If it would be so, I think mesmers would be really easy to target, since your pet always leads you the right way
If this is true, is it the same with thiefes? Why didn’t you always used our GS #4 when the thief stealthed? Did you recognize which weapon he wears? Because their backstabs are feared…
Another Question about Masters Bond: is it really worth it? I didnt recognize much of a difference, but I could be wrong here. My idea would be, pick instead comanding voice and/or Shout Mastery so you could switch to a Krytarian Drakehound with Immobilize on F2, and ’Sic’em’ … well I dont know if it is worth it but from my analysis of your footage I would say, that the Jaguar has a hard time hitting things. If he really lands an attack he hits like a truck – but I feel that this is a general problem to rangers, we have so few Immobilizes and so on, that wouldn’t really damage our class but since pets cant run in circles and have hard times hitting stuff, immos really could turn a fight…
whats your opionion on this?

Thank you for your answers so far.

There is a trait (Agility training) which would speed your pet up to 30%. Will it add to the effect of SoTH or will it simply overwrite these 25% movement speed.

Do you use other Utility skills? Like you already mentioned ‘sic ’em’? Or do you stay with your combination.
Why dont you pop SotW sometimes? Is the active-effect that bad?

Hey Puandro,

first off, really impressed me the way you play your ranger. I have to overwhelm you with some questions though – if you dont mind
1.) Why do you use this trait (Nature’s Bounty Regeneration you apply lasts 33% longer)
I rarely understand for what is it good for? Because the only source of regen I see is the minor trait with 75%. I think I miss something substantial though

2.) From my understanding your dmg comes from your pet – how comes, that your pet is sooo tanky, I mean 30 points in BM ofc, but mine dies much quicker.
So you only want to cripple your foe and slow him down, so your pet can deal DMG?
Or do you try to pull out some nice dmg strength-based, since your crit rate is really low?

3.) You deeply invest into healing power and strength. Healing power is used for Troll Unguent, Signet of the Wild and the regen from Rejuvenation?? And linked to this, since you have that much steady healing, don’t you need a condition removal in any place??

4.) You pulled off a nice moving combo with GS and S. But I didnt quite get how you did this. First off you Swoop. Secondly you turned and used Hornet Sting, turned again and used Monarch’s Leap? How do you trigger that movement-combo exactly?

5.) For your bufffood you use another source of continous healing. Wouldn’t it be worth it to go with ‘Bowl of Lemongrass Poultry Soup’ ? Since you lack a bit of condition removal.

6.) Last but not least, please tell me, how can you dish out more DMG? As you allready mentioned, drop 10 from Nature Magic – would you pick ‘Pets Prowess’ from 10 in Skirmishing instead?
And furthermore I do not quite understand the mechanics of Jaguar and stealth. He seems to deal significantly more DMG while in stealth (why)? And why dont you ever pop ‘Sigil of the Hunt’ Is the DMG-Output that bad? I didnt quite understand this sigil.

1. I run a 10/30/0/30/0 setup to great success. Wield Flamethrower when group needs Power. Wield P/P when group needs Condition Damage. I just alternate trait selection to bolster whatever I’m using. It’s very flexible.

When wielding FT:

Explosives: Incendiary Powder
Firearms: Precise Sights, Fireforged Trigger, Juggernaut
Alchemy: Fast-Acting Elixirs, Deadly Mixture, Cleansing Formula

When using Pistol/Pistol:

Explosives: Incendiary Powder
Firearms: Hair Trigger, Napalm Specialist, Coated Bullets
Alchemy: Fast-Acting Elixirs, Potent Elixirs/Cleansing Formula, HGH

2. To do this I have to be flexible. I carry with me at all times a Rabid, Soldier, and Berserker armor set. I have both a Rabid and Berserker jewelry set. And I have the weapons as well (5 Pistols, 2 Rifles, 2 Shields).

3. Confusion is still plenty viable. It’s just not faceroll good in WvW when you Pry Bar + Static Shot. It was left unchanged in PvP/PvE.

4. I use this setup in PvE, PvP, and WvW. In WvW I usually slot in my Soldier armor with Pistol/Shield with Tool Kit with Rabid jewelry.

So you are using Rabid, Berserker and Soldier armor set. Which one with which build?
I have 94 laures so far, and I dont even know what to buy with them, because I am not sure, wheter to push DMG, Crt or survivability with vit, tough.

Hey guys,

with all the buffs and nerfs I am getting pretty confused which build to pick.
I leveled my engi to lvl 80, because this class rox.
Now with lvl 80 -> complete disorientation.

1. Tell me, which builds are viable at the moment?
2. Which Gear do you wear with your current build?
3. Whats going on with Confusion, still viable? (lot of whining here)
4. -> 1.+2. what do you use in WvW and in PvE

Please help me, since I am quite new to the class and I dont get much of the mechanics

Really nice Critchance – that might work well with all the conditions you apply.
But as some already mentioned: you need a viable condition removal. Maybe think about Elixir C / S for more survivability or condition removal. That might be the way to go.
I am not sure whether they fixed the runes, but I would use these, that give might on weapon swap. But 8 ticks from FT #1 your chance to apply burning and bleed is quite good with 86% Crt chance.
One quick question to ya all:
I have a hard time to hit stuff with blowtorch, how do you handle this skill? Potentially it is awesome, but it misses a lot…

I thought, that the Light Field only heals? If you mean it combiend with EG #1 than it is only a 20% chance and that rather sux ^^

Hey dear Engineers,

since I am relatively new to this class, I want to ask the more experienced players here about a few things:
First off, which condition-removal-options do exist? I know a few obvious ones like overcharge on healing turret or the Alchemy-Trait which provides a removal for every consumed elixir, there is furthermore a minor trait with 8% chance to convert incomming condis to boons and last but not least there is the antidote.
But from my experience – other classes have more sophisticated ways to clean from conditions.
Would you explain your methods to me please?

Secondly, I know there are some really fancy combos like smoke bomb and rocket boots and a few more.
Could you be so kind to list some of the combos you use – maybe with little bulletpoints or numbers so that we can collect them and new players may be helped with it too?

Dear Tyler,

We really appreciate to discuss about our class mechanic and I am really delighted that you really try to improve our class.
My comment to KR, since you seem to like it the way it is: It is simply broken. Sorry to be so harsh but it is totally against the class mechanic of an engineer. We are supposed to take advantage from our kids and tools and since KR got nerfed you simply broke one part of our class mechanic. How about a visible cooldown? How about reducing the cooldown and make it kit dependend again? You as a Kit user heavily rely on the effects of KR and they need to be predictable. That is the main point, I dont want to compare 10-point traits with other class but atm it is broken!
So I hope you as a team come up with a viable solution instead of decreasing our strength and the traits which are really class defining and which have a big contribution in the “fun-part” of being an engineer.

First off: Awesome fight – barely understood whats going on, since you do so many stuff at the same time
Could you give me a quick overview regarding traits, equipp and sigils? I am relatively new to the engineer class but dont want to play any other anymore!

Edit: Two quick questions: can you cast Elixirs while stunned or CCed? And how did you manage to get so much Might Stacks?
