Zelyhns stuff is great I have to admit :-*

I play 3 options:
- Aura support with D/F
- Fresh Air with D/D for personal fun
- Staff with 30/10/10/10/10 for massive AoE (Scarletts Marionette for example)

When using staff I almost ever use Fire trait #2 for more recharges on conjured weapons. I am just in love with lightning hammers “HAMMERness”, Frostbows DMG (only use skill #4 and #3), even Axe for another Blastfinisher (might or speed stack) and ofc fiery greatsword for massive DMG while running against walls and obstacles (dont forget lightning flash)

Any further questions?

What kind of ascended Armor would you guys make which fits PvE (dungeons/events) and WvW??

glass cannonish staff + signet of earth for the immob. use earth #4/#5 when SoE is down.

don’t bother switching attunements in PVE, it’s not worth the effort — you’ll just end up killing stuff way slower.

just stay in fire and nuke.

Disagree on the “don’t bother switching attunements”. If you want to be the worst ele you can be at level 80, then by all means follow that advice. However you should learn to play smart, and then practice playing smart. Leveling is the training ground to learn the smart behaviors. Otherwise you get to 80 and do the same stupid stuff and your team mates think “this is the worst ele ever”.

I second that since in Orr you need more CC and extra heal against multiple targets.
Though fire is your source of DMG I often lure mobs with air attunement together, slow them with that incredible good ice field, give some earth #2 and finally Fire #2 and 5. Then, I just roll through with #4 and they burn burn burn!!!

In low lvl areas you can stay in fire ofc.

For more mele action D/D or D/F is so much fun. Especially with fresh air. If you do quests and kill single mobs one by one fresh air is the most satisfactory thing for me!

Water: soothing wave for more sustainability and I would definately go for Renewing stamina in Arcana. It is so much better to dodge more frequent furthermore it really synergizes well with Evasive arcana. As P Fun said, take Lightning Flash maybe, you got some cool applications for DMG there.
Press Fiery Greatsword #4 without target and teleport right ontop your enemy while switching to lightning. That needs practice but it is SO much DMG!!
Although I hate Signets I sometimes take Signet of Earth to further improve the outcome.

I don’t get the hate here.
It is incontestable that there are many different roles an ele can play. Still a full berserker ele with good group support has its value too. What Lasiurus does is just comprehensive groupplay and he fits in exactly one role: backline DMG / Support / CC.
Nothing wrong here. And since there are many new players every day who are searching the forums for help and inspiration, I would say: let them find some interessting topics rather than flaming posts! If its not your playstyle guys, make a video and enrich our informative part of the community with your understanding of the class!!

D/D Signet Condi build: thoughts?

I know that the dmg isnt lower if someone has less hp and therefore healing power is somehow linked with incomming dmg. Only wanted to show what the member earlier mentioned when stating heling power is more effective with low vitality. And he sure has at least one point there: traits or runes which trigger hp-dependent work to your advantage like diomond skin.
Then again incoming dmg is the same… So as I already wrote: I would prefer higher vit and toughness paired with a good amount of healing power to really be an effective tank!

A. 10,000 HP
lets say an estimated 200HP heal per cast.
=> 2% Heal per cast.
B. 15,000 HP
still 200HP heal per cast.
=> 200/(1500/100) = 200 / 150 = 1.333 % Heal per cast.
Since Healing power is not dependend of vitality it gets more effective the less vitality you have.
Although I would suggest having more vitality is always a good thing

p.s. could someone post a working condition build?

Hey dear Elementalists,

I would love to craft some Ascended gear though I am totally blown by the complexity of the new items. Could some one post a step-by-step instruction on how to obtain ascended gear?
Furthermore I am not certain yet which set and statcombo I would like to aquire. Therefore I will now post some facts about my playstyle and you may help me with the choice:
I do lots of PvE: random Dungeons, fractals and open world exploring. I love D/D, for massiv AoE Staff and for Mightstacking Sc/D_F… I would prefer a statcombination which fits WvW and PvE since Ascended apear to be quite expensive.
Can someone help me here? Is a condition setup worth the effort or should I rather invest in direct dmg and some toughness?

maybe persisting flames as fire grantmaster since you can stack more might for longer and your mates.
Then I would take 10 from acana and go 10 into lightning for “Bolt to the heart”.
If you’d take Renewing stamina you can dodge more and therefore even drop to ten in water – that frees up another 10 points to go even 20 up in lightning (Air training if using Lightninghammer instead of your movement sigil ord acane lightning for more overall crit dmg).
If you lack movement take runes of traveller or scholarrunes – its another DMG multiplicator.

Thanks for your answer. I think the only dmg comes from fire #2 and earth #2. And these AoEs tick slowly, hence I cant make use of them to the full potential. True, I sometime use immob or chill, but these cooldowns are freaking long… could you upload a video for some skillrotations?
I mean in dungeons all I do is wait untill huge amounts are spawned, open with #2 earth, then #2 fire, then meteorshower and arcane wave. Later I often summon LH.

Hey dear fellow Eles,

I seem to have a lot of trouble to adapt my builds and weapon combination of my elementalist to the appropriate game content. Okay, there are great tutorials for dungeon runs preferably with LH, there are videos of successful D/D Eles roaming in WvW. But for me this forum lacks tipps and tricks, hints and builds for open world content.
As I go along and continue world completion I seem to have a lot of trouble with ordinary trash mobs. One time I am not tanky enough to survive 2 of orrs creatures or I lack to deal enough DMG in a short period of time especially when walking with staff.
Does staff only has its moments in WvW Zerks and huge Bossfights in dungeons?
Do you guys take D/D or S/D for open world and boss farming?
Whats your most effective way to participate champ trails in either map?
Which builds do you use in combination with traits and gear?
What are your tactics for fast traveling?
I am really looking forward to reading your replies.

after the patch, traveler runes seem to be even better:
Disadvantage:
- 15% boon duration
Advantage:
+6% Crt DMG
+20 to all stats.

Instead of Acuracy Sigil you could also take generosity

I simply love perma speed for PvE content. That is one of the main reasons I constantly choose my engi for PvE stuff.
Furthermore I do switch between kits all the time. Though I might not get the most out of each, with 20 pts in STR, everything hits quite good.
Besides Ele → most self-combos! I love that!!

I have a problem with staffs DMG in general. Attacks are hard to land, trigger long and fly slow. What are your specific dmg-combos?
What I use: static field + earth #2,#5 or water #4 + fire #2.
But as already said, our “hard-hitters” trigger way too long and people tend to dodge EVERY red circle on the ground.

PU condie builds inherently rely on an active opponent. Your damage is almos exclusively based around countering or punishing attacks. Understanding that is key to countering the build.

What you don’t need to worry about too much are the phantasms. The pistol phantasm is the one potential exception, but it will still die quickly. If you are running condies though, you’ll want to kill the iMage and/or iDisenchanter quickly.

The condition application comes from clone explosions and the torment counter primarily. To avoid clone explosions, keep your distance from the clones. Don’t use cleave, or you’ll get hit. The torment counter is also pretty straightforward to avoid. Dangerous skills for it are any kind of persistent aoe or channeled attack, such as chaos storm or confusing images. Watch for the icon+block and dodge the torment.

If you can avoid the clone explosions and torment, that reduces their damage to almost nothing. Just keep pressuring the Mesmer and they will die eventually.

Now, the actual hard-counter is a well played phantasm Mesmer, because a phantasm Mesmer doesn’t have to attack. This allows them to completely avoid the offense of the PU build, and the phantasms will rip them apart.

My question about ‘clone explosion’
How do you reliably apply conditions since you rely on clone explosions? I can not shatter, because than the effect won’t proc, right?
So someone has to kill these clones ? Or you have to constantly overwrite them with new clones?
Then I wonder, how can scepter be a good weapon ? Because your clones are within a600 distance and if they die to some AoE dmg, they won’t afflict your enemy.

I am asking because I am quite new to mesmer and didn’t quite get the PU gameplay so far. Help would be appreciated

Ele has got good mobility, some evade traits like mistform, and most importantly: huge heal capacities. Though mesmers can port and confuse, we can heal…
but I agree, a bit more balance needs to be done here!

With 0 in Arcana, you have a 13 sec CD on each Atune, and a 1.625 global Atune CD. This prevents you from making full use of Fresh Air. Looking at Fresh Air builds without Arcana, I am 100% sure that LH builds do more damage, under the constraint that you still need to stack maximum Might. If you didn’t need to stack Might, you might as well ditch Fresh Air and the LH altogether, and use Staff.

If you put points into Arcana to make better use of Fresh Air, your Effective Power drops very, very rapidly. Putting points into Arcana quickly makes non-Arcana builds far better. So you’re in a bit of a bind with Fresh Air, which basically prevents you from using it, if your goal is to do maximum dmg under the constraint that you must stack Might.

Anierna, could you please explain to me, why I need to couple Arcana with Air attunement?
A 13 sec global cooldown compared to a 10 sec traited cooldown on each attunement isnt that much of a difference to me.
I finde the DMG from Scepter #2 compared with fresh air very satisfying. Though I never played any other ele build except from the typical Aura Bunker D/D.
With Air you get Air Training, Arcane Lightning or Bolt to the heart. And ofc. fresh air. Isnt that a hugh DMG boost whether you play Scepter or Staff? For me, both weapons made quite good use of the instant lightning flash which hits really hard.
But as I said, not quite experienced here – so I would be happy to be convinced from the opposite.

Rampager is an ideal DMG set, if you want to take your conditions into the bill.
As Frostnator already said, I believe you are going to need grenades or at least FT – but then I would change the skillset again.
Rampager set would be cool with grenades since you push the “on chrit” traits. And while you hit only once with EG, Grenades hit twice or even 3 times when traited.
I use EG mainly for Grouputility (Condi cleaning), mobility purposes and soft control.

Interessting Build so far.

- I wouldn’t use acidic bombs, though you have to test the DMG for yourself. In my experience, boon removal is almost useless in PvE and other classes bring that with their weapon skills. I would pick ‘empowering adrenaline’ for raw DMG or maybe ‘Exploit Weakness’.

- PvE is a lot about fast killing crowds of monsters, so I would take ‘coated Bullets’ instead of ‘hair trigger’. For me, pircing is just more dmg.

- Team utility is gained through Condi removal with Formula 409. Therefore, I would only take Elixir R in dificult situations because its F-Skill has too much of a cooldown.
It is great in fractals indeed, but if you need convenient might stacking, go with Elix C, S or even U for some reflect.

- Since ‘Toss Elix H’, ‘super Elix’ and ‘Healing Mist’ are your only AoE Heals, I wouldnt bother to invest that much into healing power. For healway-gameplay there are other builds in this forums, which make use of tower, healing bombs etc.
But I do not know how strong these skills scale with HP…

-For Armor I would therefore take a Carrion, Rabbit mix. Enough DMG, enough sustain.

But I definately want to hear about your experience with your heal capabilities.
