Tyriaaaaaa!
Hang in there, Tyria!
Oh, and while you’re at it, I have a very good friend who can give your entire code a good shake to clean out all those bugs.
And, thank you, Mr O’Brien. Stay in good health.
(edited by Asumir.1978)
I hear ‘ESO’ then ‘BDO’.
Hang in there, Tyria!
I love it because the story never ends. It is always happening, not only in the inhabitants, but us, visitors, who go there.
How do you know it’s a girl?
Don’t get your hopes up boi.
Boi.. Ah, the beauty of dramatic irony.
Triple that for me: “Asumir” in my lenguage (spanish) is like english “To Surmise”: To suppose something is true without evidence.
Well put! The word had come to me when I knew not a bit of Spanish. Except for the names of Velazquez, El Greco, and Goya. Plus the names of their paintings.
Ha, a gold star, like kindergarten
Is that what they do? Well, fine. If gold is not good enough, a Diamond star, shining.
How do you know it’s a girl?

Boi.. Ah, the beauty of dramatic irony.

Mostly true. You have to kill at least one raid boss. Some people sell raids, or do practice teaching raids. After your first kill you unlock raid masteries and you can train them like any other.
Once all your masteries are completed you again get spirit shards for leveling.
Whoa, didn’t know that.
Glad I try everything at least once in this game
Thank you all very much!
All this is great, and I congratulate you both for your kindness and effort.
However, I think is not the best idea to post player account, character names or any info that could identify them, directly in the forum. You are risking doing harm to your Angel if any envious or stupid bully decide to use the data to molest.
Be careful.
Edited images and title. I hate having to cripple her beautiful name or acknowledge envy could taint such a beautiful thing such as she is doing, but I grudgingly (against the possibility of bad things happening, not your good self) follow your sound advice.

I had NO idea.
All I wanted to do was declare something wonderful.
I can’t just hide someone doing such a service to the community.
Besides, my game name is also loud and cle- oh.
If they molest, they will have to leave.
I would normally cut the name out, but I want her to be known.
She is doing everyone a massive favour.
Still, I will try edit my post. I wonder if I can redo the attachments.
THANK you for saving a lot of grief.
Agreed, with much thanks!
I shall stick to declaring my intention as I always do, in mapchat and on LFG.
Thanks for the idea of the instructor standing apart typing while the rest are in the thick of it. A very good one!
At risk of copyright issues, I would like to nickname the Newbie Commander/Trainee Commander tag, ‘The Jon Snow Tag’.
Gist of The Matter:
Dear ArenaNet,
Please clarify/make the following:
The Long Story:
Finally got my commander tag a couple of months ago, after draining my bank.
Embarrassed and excited at the same time, I tag up in WvW.
Oooh, the thrill!
Tagged down in 3 sec, before anyone else saw me on the map. Heebiejeebies, that was close! What if they follow and I fail them?
Then, at an event I need help with in PvE open world, I tag up. People come round, and start to follow.
FINALLY. Something better than the Noob tag – oops, Mentor tag of PvE.
The event ends, and people hang about, expectantly.
As if I know what I am doing.
I announce that this is it, and tag down. The moment of hesitation before they disperse signals disappointment. I feel bad for them.
The Mentor tag was issued in good faith that people will use it to lead those who do not know the way.
When the Mentor tag first came out, I looked up to it. The apple of teachers.
It made me want one. It would make it easier to help new players, no?
Then when I found it is easily obtainable, and used by anyone who WANTS, not GIVES help, it lost its meaning and value as a MENTOR indicator.
Only once or twice have I seen a Mentor who declared themselves and behaved as such. Very good experiences.
What noob commanders like me use it for is to gather everyone, knowledgeable or not, to do an event.
When I tag up using an actual commander tag, things get more serious, until the players notice the tiny event I am tagging for, but stay anyway since they are there now.
In bigger events, I use the Commander Tag as a Gathering/Mustering banner.
If I find anyone in the group who knows the ropes, I hand them the reins wholeheartedly, but often find they refuse to tag up, or are simply unable to afford the tag. Twice I’ve run meta events with the lieutenant actually doing the commanding. I told the group as much. I was only the flag-bearer.
A Commander tag is too heavy for me to carry without the knowledge it needs.
Please create a new tag solely for gathering people at an event. Let it be the shape of a flag or banner icon on the map when anyone opens it.
OR let the orange live event icons/arrows/circles be visible on the main map of the area, not just on the mini map.
When people see a commander tag or mentor tag in an event area when they open the world map, they can easily get the hint and go straight to it, without further expectations.
Also, please make a Trainee or Newbie Commander tag. I will raise it without qualms. People don’t listen when I announce myself as a noob comm. I need an L-plate. It’s the Learner driving plate, a square they attach to your car when you first get your licence in Britain.
People don’t read in-game. They look.
Then they complain when things don’t work, and I ask if they read my mapchat message declaring myself a noob comm of a noob squad.
They skip answering this.
Please make it visually clear when one is a Commander-in-Training (NOT Mentor) vs a full-fledged one vs a Mentor vs a People Gatherer (this latter solvable by making live/ openable events visible on the big region/world map).
Again, many many thanks for this big, beautiful, boundless Tyria!

A heartfelt ‘Yes’ to the praise of the Guild Wars 2 Wiki, and all players who contributed to it.
Whenever I look up anything on it, many a time I find myself in awe of how they are almost ahead of the game, grasping the content in far greater detail than the developers explain it, then presenting it clearly, usefully, to us players.
I’d be happy to give a percentile of the money I spent/spend on the game to support them.
Without the Wiki, I am lost.
It is the sole, faultlessly searchable (hint-hint @ the forums here) comprehensive resource on the game I have.
The Guild Wars 2 Bible.
This person diligently makes a nightly Hero Point run in the Verdant Brink, Auric Basin and, …The Tangled Depths.
I came across her by chance while desperate for a squad that would actually tackle TD for anything other than the meta events.
Her dedication is this:
Every evening, without fail, she will individually whisper every single soul who ever ran with her to join her on her run, with a modified verse of a song to fit the context of her run.
She also puts up LFG and map announcements, but the way she takes care of former runners while guiding the new ones is staggering.
At every stage, she explains, in detail, what to do and how to do it. She and the entire squad wait, or run back to regroup if even one of us strayed behind.
She asks for feedback on how to improve, and applies it. I only failed her run once. After that, we – looks like her runners are already a group, now – held together.
Oh, yes, it is not for the gold, either. Donations are not compulsory, and she does this night after night.
I love this person for what she is doing.
For this, I call her, ‘The Angel of Maguuma’.
I want her to gain some form of recognition for this.
Also, please help people like her to gain commander tags if they haven’t already.
Also, let them have some sort of marker for such people, such as a gold star icon (golden version of the personal history star) next to their names, that when they tag up on a map, people may gather.
To those who will argue that the Mentor tag is there for this purpose, it is not enough.
We all know why, but that is another subject entirely.
Let there be a gold star next to the names of people like Laura Dalviano, even if they use a Mentor tag.
I think it’s high time Arenanet established a Community Commendation scheme, if one is not active already.
This post is, in part, a repayment of a huge debt of thanks I have to this lady.
Thank you very much for your attention.

Conversing, peacefully, in the middle of a battlefield.
That… boy…‘..just tickles’, huh?
Ben Tenstrikes.
Warrior, harrier, guardian, shield.
A mountain looks upon you as your hands rise, in delicate greeting
Before their dance of death.
Daughter of Flame,
Running ’cross the snows,
Whence the wind comes,
Wolf only knows;
How beautiful you are, how beautiful you are!
I see what you mean, right on top of your head.
Those Sylvari are tough thorns.
One must, on occasion, visit the dead.
For the Asura, perhaps a cleaner, more orderly look. Less lines, less clutter. But a glossy trim (at the ending points of the clothing: shoulder, wrists, belt, hem, trouser hem, shoe top and tip), and, running through it, a very, very fine-lined metallic motif that dimly glows blue/purple/choice in the dark in energy ripples.
how about more decorative, swirly border trimmings (thin filigeree metal: futuristic angularity for the Asura, industrial angularity for the Charr, with the occasional curve of lines in the motif) in order to denote softness?
But Asura and Charr perception of what is attractive in the feminine would be different than us humans. Sharper, harder could be the way for Charr.
Serrated metallic edges waving upwards and backwards at the shoulder. Upturned collars that make nape fur bristle upright to make the Charr look more intimidating.
Tooth and claw, engineered through metal into clothing.
(edited by Asumir.1978)
Pictures, for those who haven’t seen this armor on female Asura and Charr.
imo it should be changed to male armor, at least on the chest plate.
Urrh, yes, definitely change.
Good question, and well noted!
Good screenshot, too.
To me it looks like a calendar, an astral map.
Could be from the era and the people of the Jotun, but their designs are different. This could be from the time and doing of The Forgotten, as I doubt the Giganticus Lupicus could have made such a thing.
Tyria is saved! Orr heaves a sigh of relief as it bathes in the light, the cries of victory rising from the thousands of throats of the Pact, as, in the foreground, for an instant, the once-foe Ascalonian and Charr exchange a brief glance.
What is this?
What was left unsaid?
What was left undone?
Did they know what was to come?
Or is there other unfinished business between them, that needs to be sorted before they venture out again?
Time and again I am bedazzled by how delicate and beautiful the modelling and animation in Tyria can be. Look at this!
Classical grace!
Hey guys, below is a list of upcoming polls you are likely to see, in roughly the order you are likely to see them.
- World Linking Schedule – How often should we relink worlds?
- Desert Borderlands – Should the map be removed indefinitely?
- Repair Hammer – Do you want to be able to spend supply to repair siege?
- Deployable Mortars – Do you want to be able to buy and deploy Mortars?
- Deployable Cannons – Do you want to be able to buy and deploy Cannons?
Special Mention
- WvW Priorities – What do you want the WvW team to prioritize next?
- We’ll run this poll after completing major milestones with whatever feature last won the Prioritization vote. So in this case: Scoring Improvements.
Special Mention
(edited by Asumir.1978)
I’ve read most of the Polls and subsequent threads. I do not understand why the Dev’s would even consider bringing back the Desert Borderland. That map and the stab changes wrecked our WvW population. More players left to BDO due to that map than anything else. Right now, after the Poll came out about bringing it back, a very high majority of the players in our TS have been very negative about it returning. Where are the Dev’s coming up with the notion that the map is desired or that it’s good for the game mode?
Before anyone mentioned the thread on here to have it returned, the number of unique players in that thread asking for it is pretty low.
I said it too, but apparently it was too direct. I have lost all of my original WvW crew to DBO.
The way the latest poll was written is disappointing:
It channels us to choose the Desert Borderlands whether we like them or not. I, for one, do not. If I do not use the poll, I do not get my voice through.
It lists no notable improvements to the maps or the gameplay within WvW itself.
Guild Wars 2 is chiefly a PvE game. It is a lore-lover’s paradise, and entering WvW on the Alpine maps, one does feel alienated from Tyria, save for the hints in the structures, and entering the playerbase, one realises WvW is a different game altogether, another world, apart from Tyria and GW2 altogether.
I cannot but help feel the Developers may resent this. It’s as if the WvW map was thrown in to keep the multiplayer PvP’ers, and proprietors of GW2 happy by showing an active player population through keeping a place open for massive PvPers.
A game, a painting, a book is your baby as a creator. It is your work, your sweat, blood and tears.
But once you let it out there, it is ours. The whole world’s.
We take it, and find new ways to play with it the way you could not have imagined.
I see the way some players use the skillsets they have been given, and am baffled at the things they come up with. These are not software hacks. They are using what exactly they have been given.
This is part of the human intellect. We have imagination and innovation, even if we are at the receiving end of a completed product.
I am sorry I wrote so harshly before, but the Alpine Borderlands are “home”, and I am afraid to lose them. I do not want Desert Borderlands back, in any way. The poll posted forced us to include them in our choices, and this goes against my choice while allowing for everyone else’s. The mere mention of the DBL was a refusal on part of the Game Devs to see that they were unpopular.
Why?
The Desert Borderlands, albeit a fond throwback to The Crystal Desert of Tyria’s lore in the Dev’s minds, to the WvW players, were too unappealing in their tiered terrain, their almost-PvE-quest-zone-but-no-missions-here ..emptiness? How shall I put this?
The giant keep looks like it could have so many things to do in it, but we can’t build any Asura siege gadgetry. (We do have Asura technology active: the emergency WP is a Devsend. THANK YOU. Abusable and abused, but very useful, nonetheless). I also don’t appreciate having to fall splat on my face before reaching the Mystic Fountain, or the external gate. Winding paths, again.
I am assuming the Desert Borderlands were brought to bring WvW into sync with Tyria’s Living World.
That is why its structure is tiered, layered, and, like the Maguuma Jungle, it is impossible to navigate on an open map unless you know the terrain like the back of your hand.
This works for guerilla combat, small groups hunting each other.
This goes against a game’s desire to attract and keep as many players as possible:
Big Zergs stay away. The DBL map is simply not navigable. So they stay in EBG. If isolating Zergs was the point, then you have made it quite clearly.
There was no-one to run with on the Borderlands unless on schedule, with a guild.
We capped forever and there was no-one to stop us. Yay for the server score!
And thanks for toning down the NPCs aggro in the DBL. They were interrupting our movement for no (server-score/individual score) contributory reason.
The trouble is, if you make people run forever without anything to do in between, things get dull.
The ‘thing to do’ in WvW is fight other players, most of whom were, during the time the DBL were set up, in the Eternal Battlegrounds, an Alpine-style setting.
When the Alpine Borderlands returned, we all knew the real competition for world rank had begun.
When the Alpine maps returned, there was a rush of players coming back. We never had queues like this when the DBLs were up.
I only lag when there is a massive player population present, and I NEVER lagged on DBL.
Proof enough?
You want WvW to be in sync with the Living World of Tyria, GREAT. I would LOVE to see Living World Season 3, and how you come up with a WvW for THAT. No, not a revamped DBL. Another place. Isn’t Tyria big and varied enough to choose from?
Just remember that, unlike the PvE maps of Tyria The Beautiful, we must come up with other things to keep us occupied group PvP-wise instead of NPCs, terrain complications and puzzle quests.
Yes, WvW is another game, precisely for this reason: it is massive, open, multiplayer PvP and maps made for it must cater to this core aspect of it.
I said ‘we’. That means us. We your people, Guild Wars 2, and your crew.
I am sincerely grateful for the introduced contribution/dungeon rank benefits to individuals, for the high-speed Dolyak deliveries, the WvW Guild Mission possibilities, and, above all, the return of the Alpine maps, which are on the verge of being taken away from us again.
I now ask that GROUP effort is also rewarded.
1. Make WvW titles displayable inside Tyria, upon the player’s choice.
2. Translate WvW Score Advancement into Guild Ranking Rewards: Make WvW PPT and fight scores count among the guilds of a server, not just between servers. May push players to be more active. Please, please, pretty please. This will be very unfair to active small guilds made up of strong and effective roaming players, so let there be equal reward for effort spent.
a. How do we calculate this?
b. How do we prevent cheating?
a. How do we calculate this? Individual kill count+cap count+build count+repair count per player per guild. Total shows guild’s effectiveness. Keep/Garrison capture’s bonus points raise this higher.
A player will add or subtract from a guild’s score by entering, playing or lazing/leaving.
Also, the higher the percentage of WvW-active players in a guild, the higher that guild’s score.
Still, to be fair to small and strong guilds, there should be a special category for roamer guilds, say 5-20 people maximum. Call it the Havoc Squad category, for example.
For the Havoc Squad category, make the rewards rich and noticeable, by others in the game, wherever they are. Enable the award name to be a visible title. Same awarding system to bigger guilds.
The maps:
3. Double the size, then ZONE the Alpine maps.
What do I mean by zoning?
The map gets divided into areas, as it does in Central Tyria. When we go from one area to the other on the central Tyria’s map, the name of that area appears. Great. Now, we use that sensor trigger for other things:
This should alert the enemy as to where we are. This will make for more fights, which is what most WvW players look for. It will also end espionage and sabotage, or at least lessen them, methinks.
Group movement alerts to be EARNED BY THE SERVER by capping a certain number of locations and/or making a certain number of kills within a given amount of time.
Group movement map transition stealth to be EARNED BY A SQUAD by capping a certain number of locations, and/or making a certain number of kills within a given amount of time.
Individual movement: Scouts: The hidden heroes, the patient ones of WvW. Create a special state for some individual players. Unofficially, we call them ‘Scouts’ on WvW. Scouts stay in keeps
Let people who have a Scout tag have free access to all the map without the combat requirement, higher speed and more vulnerability in terms of health and power than the average player.Scout status should be granted to individuals. No more than one scout per CAPTURED tower on any given map per SERVER. Scout tag/status disappears when the Scout joins a squad or party, switches guilds, logs off, disconnects, stays still for more than 5 minutes, and, above all, is more than sight’s distance from any given structure in the open ground for over 2 minutes. A Scout must be constantly mobile, agile, alert.
Now this is a hard one:
Enlarge the Alpine maps, but-
Let accessing an area be a combat-earned privilege. Accessing, not just capture. This will hitch movement for players, except for Scouts.
You cannot move from one area of the map to the next unless you capture the main structure in the zone you are passing through. (Zerg runners will hate me for this, or not, depending on their evaluation of PPT rewards for their server. But if the Guild/Server rewards I suggest are implemented, they will probably cap then hit, as well).
Let accessing an area by capping its main building grant the following boons:
Speed of movement
Increased power.
Let attackers trying to cap an area gain 1 extra dodge.
4. One of the oldest combat-games of the world involve a trophy or prize being taken from one team to the other. Buzkashi of the Afghans is one, and football that we play worldwide started as a free-for-all. Any group ball game is the same, only without open combat.
This is different in that aspect:
Create a prize, make it a Champion’s Banner, and set preconditions at who has the privilege of carrying it to begin with.
It could be that we escort a Champion of Ancient Tyria after earning their trust by capturing enough of the maps, both EBG and Alpine, instead of an object, or merely borrowing their strength as you have done in PvP.
I think of the magnificent Turai Ossa as I write, but I am sure the Ascalonian structures of the Alpine Borderlands tells another tale, and will bring other heroes to the fore. Yes, don’t think I haven’t noticed. I know every nook and cranny of that map, and love them all. The Obsidian Sanctum is a favourite, though it is sadly neglected and its history baffling.
The Prize/Trophy we must protect or keep could remain as a testimony to the rank and season it was claimed by a particular server or guild. I am thinking of the unchanging Dolyak prize statue in our Alpine maps, thanks for the inspiration, Anet!
All the above should count towards individual, guild, and server rank, with appropriate titles and rewards, both in-combat and in Tyria.
Preventing cheating: You can’t hack Time.
Make the rewards obtainable after one month, or better, an entire season, of active participation within that guild.
Building or repairing:
The only time this score should count towards rewards is when building or repairing a siege weapon or structure within 5 minutes of the most recent downing of its Lord. Preventive reparation rewarded within sight range of an approaching enemy until a gate or wall is down.
If anyone cuts their way into those numbers by software manipulation, put their head on the block.

Who is E?
And bless you for knowing The Scarlet Pimpernel.
THEY’RE BACK! THEY’RE BACK! ZOMNGSS
The nostalgia, the tears, the good times, all rushed back in like a river after the melting snow!
How about OSX? I changed my screenshot key to PrtScr (yup, got a Windows Keyboard I can be merciless to, use Windows key instead of the CMD key). Been digging but would rather hear it from a gamer playing Guild Wars 2. Anything in specific?
Thunderrabbits! And the shaggy Logan!
You know offhand dagger has…throw dagger skills? And 2 utilities. And an elite. How many throwing weapon skills do you want!
As many as my boots, belt and shoulder straps can carry!
…which would kind of make Thief like some kind of swirling porcupine..
Sierra Club and PETA wouldn’t allow us to kill them so they would rule the world.
…and eat those good people, shoes and all.
YES it is OFFICIAL, gliders are up and running in Central Tyria, but do we really need them all the time, especially with jumping puzzles?
If this was an ability we could toggle on and off, it would be much more comfortable navigating more familiar (jumping) ground.
Does anyone else find themselves glued to the screen like children at a toyshop window at seeing this?
Beautiful responses from everyone, thank you very much!
Magic as a fuel had not come to mind, was focused more on human attitudes to each other changing before a common enemy.
But, yes.
The dragons would have no source to fuel themselves nor build their minion armies, and the humans of Earth will probably scorch their planet in a bid to defend themselves.
The news response by midnight tea was fantastic.
I just cannot imagine going against any of them the way we do in Tyria.
I mean, facing a dragon.
On our tiny human feet.
(edited by Asumir.1978)
What if our own Earth was beset by the Six Elder Dragons? How would we respond?
Skelk training!
And to think I’d learnt to loathe these things from the Ascalonian Catacombs.
Charr- ever progressive.
Figures why they won their war.
Climbing, we have it. It’s SB5.
Throwing daggers, we have them too, in the form of two DD utility skills.
Not quite. It is a teleport jump. Can’t scale castle walls with it.
I meant the daggers and shuriken in our armour. Turn them into more than decoration.
This isn’t Skyrim, it’s not necessary for the game. Besides, why would I want to get hit by every projectile while my character climbs up the wall at some moderate rate when I could just teleport up?
Armour are just sprites. As an object, on its own, the graphic we see doesn’t make any more difference to anything else than any of the other skins. It’s just a different number, that is the address of where that pattern is in the memory files. Any thing you see on the skin holds no meaning to anything but being an image. It would be like trying to eat the hamburger you see on the menu at McDonalds. It’s not real. It won’t work.
If you want to RP some ninja then just use your imagination for crawling walls with grappling hooks and throwing shuriken.
Never tried Skyrim, would need a new machine or split this one’s brain.
Hmm. Getting hit by projectiles while climbing, that, I did not consider, but it would be appealing to the devs, since it is a known part of war history on Earth.
Armour are just sprites? Ah. I had to read your explanation again.
Thank you for the enlightenment, I had an inkling that the weaponry etc were mere images, but I was hoping that, just as they make images run and fight, they can find a way to make attached imagery into detachable weapons.
Then again, it is beyond me how, but there is no harm in exercising the imagination. Surely someone out there will pick up on it and make it happen.
Hence the forums.
Again, I thank you for your opinions, I’ve learnt some new things.
Climbing, we have it. It’s SB5.

The wiki is great sometimes in figuring things out:
Advice appreciated. Keep the sarcasm for yourself.
It was not this bad before. Every zone transition takes 3 times more than it used to, and I am not just talking Lion’s Arch. I can go grab a coffee till I get from one section of Tyria to the other.
I crashed, too, which was a rarity for me even when others were complaining.
The Black Lion Trading Company interface, once an easily accessible tool, now takes forever to load, and I had to close it many times to be able to access it from anywhere, especially the Home page. It gets worse in Lion’s arch, and it actually hiccoughs whenever my mesmer’s spells activate.
Is anyone else going through similar symptoms?
To ArenaNet:
I am more than happy to have Tyria alive with more people, but please have the hardware/software to back your marketing!
We had Heart of Fire drop from the Megadestroyer in Mount Maelstrom. It says it is a Crafting material for a Huntsman, AND a trophy at the same time.
Is this used in any crafting recipe?
If so, what do I craft with it, and how to get the recipe, please?
What’s a Thief if they don’t have basic burglary skills, right?
Would be great if we had climbing skills and gear:
Grappling hooks, swinging by the ropes, and all sorts of rope climbing up/down tricks.
And the pretty shuriken and daggers in some of our outfits could use a little fresh air.
While flying at our targets.
Since we’re getting the Bo and are oh-so Kung-F(u) now.
For your consideration, dear developers at ArenaNet.
Ever beautiful, ever deadly.
My question exactly, but I am assuming the answer is in-game with the guild whatsit. Apparently we get all the guild buffs we had prepared beforehand, but that is all.
They will be sorely missed. Bring them back, Anet.
