Soloing in Orr as a Ranger isn’t bad as long as you’re not using glass cannon stats. I use a Longbow-Shortbow Marksmanship/Skirmishing/Wilderness Survival build for solo farming in Orr that works fairly well.
The only thing I really have to watch out for is Veteran Risen Abominations. (They can down me in three or four hits, they ignore pets, they’re immune to all forms of crowd control, they have a fast knockdown that’s nearly impossible to dodge, and they can run faster than a swiftness-buffed player. I think Zhaitan came up with them after being annoyed by a Ranger once too often.)
Disclaimer: Norns, drink heavily before attempting. (We know you probably will anyway.)
Group size is fine, it’s the camera and movement bugs (and occasional desktop crashes) that are the problem.
Or maybe I just need to try it with a character that isn’t a Norn.
It might get annoying eventually, but I run by there several times a day and I haven’t gotten tired of hearing it yet. All the Lion’s Arch kids are pretty cute.
People who are upset are more motivated to post than happy people. This is why I don’t work telephone tech support anymore. (We used to joke that what we were really doing was running a tech-oriented therapy service.)
All the costumed kids in Lion’s Arch are ridiculously cute. (I still haven’t gotten tired of the Charr near the trading post who can’t pronounce “Halloween” and ends up shouting “It’s candy day!”)
Really like the scavenger hunt and costume brawls, too.
It’s quite easy to level all the crafts to maximum on lower-level alts, (and the alts get a good few levels out of it) so rather than being a gold sink the fee just serves as a deterrent to doing everything on one character. You don’t even need to stick to one character for the “Master Crafter” title.
I suspect the intent isn’t to provide another gold sink, but to give crafters a reason to play more characters.
I’m having a great time, and really enjoying the fact that I had to figure some things out. Tastes differ, I guess.
Issue: build queue erased
In queue: Politics level 2
Influence loss: 1000
Guild name: Solo Contendere
Tag: SC
World: Isle of Janthir
Guild history shows build started yesterday – today there’s nothing in the queue, influence is at 202 and politics is still level 1.
(Tried reporting this using the in-game bug tool, but there’s no category for guild issues or anything close to it.)

I enjoy it (mostly) but the constant problem with mobs going invulnerable for no reason I can see makes it pretty frustrating at times. Many of the underwater dynamic events just aren’t worth the frustration of completing them.
Any word on a fix for this soon?
I’d love to play a Kodan. I really hope this possibility makes it into an expansion.
This, more than any other factor, is what keeps me out of WvW. I like to explore and try new things in PvP – I don’t like paying huge repair costs for doing those things.
I know of three broken skill challenges on my server at the moment, and a couple of dozen dynamic events that are stalled and uncompletable due to one problem or another. These have been going on for days, and the problems only multiply the longer the server stays up without a reset.
A reset timer would be a great temporary fix for most of these problems – at the very least, a daily server reset would allow them to be completed occasionally.
The Liberation Dell skill challenge and the one near Vigil Keep in the Gendarran fields have been broken for days on Isle of Janthir. (Both are the last points on their respective maps I need for completion, which makes checking them over and over quite annoying.)
