Agreed honestly. The current way the game works is basically like this:

Every can do anything. Everything is about YOU. All fights are individual.

Which removes the whole ‘team’ aspect. Everyone does damage. Everyone does support. Everyone heals.

It becomes a solo game almost. The other players are there to make the content easier (which it is now) but otherwise, they are pointless.

The other problem is the game is easier than most MMOs because instead of being Tank and Spank which requires:

Tank with high defense and health to tank;
Healer to heal Tank to keep him alive;
DPS to wipe off Health
Support to Buff/Debuff

In GW2 it’s basically Dodge And Spank:

Get hit, it’s over in one shot. Therefore you don’t need a Tank (The premise of GW2 is never getting hit), you don’t need a healer (the premise of GW2 is never getting hit, plus everyone has a self heal on low CD) and you never need Buff/Debuff because everyone can do it. All you do is damage.

Which leads into…

Zerker meta. Why waste time building defense, health, healing, etc. when none of that matters since the whole point of every fight is to never ever be hit. You want pure damage. Always.

Which is why hard content is going to be hard to make for this game. The entire design around the game (never take damage) makes it so it’s always going to be easy.

I hope we can level masteries without DE's.

It’s the ‘carrot on the stick’ type of progression in end-game this game sorely needed and it fits in with the atmosphere of the game they created as it is not a Gear grind.

Guild Wars 2 end game was sparse. It was a desert of hot, humid dry sand that just sucked the life out of the game.

This is at least SOMETHING to make you feel like at end-game you are still ‘progressing’.

This is entirely a personal thing, but I couldn’t stand feeling.. ‘stuck’ in GW2 at endgame. Like, nothing mattered as you never progressed further than level 80. There was nothing after that only an endless grind for cosmetics or gold.

With this Mastery system, there is now a sense of ‘progression’. Until you max it. Then it’s back to the same stuff.

Hopefully by that point though, the end-game is at least decent.

Anyway. Easy way to avoid this would have been to offer a discount for Veterans on HoT.

Instead of paying 100$ for the Ultimate, I woulda paid 70$ (current Deluxe price) and instead of paying 70$ for Deluxe, I woulda paid 50$ (current standard price).

Veterans would get Deluxe at the price of standard and Ultimate at the price of Deluxe.

But maybe I’m being greedy and that discount is too big :-)

What I want to know is, where were all these posts claiming I was ripped off/cheated/conned/etc when the game went for sale at $10 seven months or so ago? Why weren’t you at least 83% as outraged that someone new paid $10 and you paid $60 back then?

Because they still had to pay for the game and the exp. pack.

People like myself who have been here since Day 1 supporting ArenaNet had to put down 60$+ for the core game and now another 60$+ for HoT (I paid 100$) while people just playing today pay 60$ and get all the same content I get for less than half the price.

I personally don’t care, but I’m guessing that’s the argument.

“Why are they equal to us when we’ve been here longer and paid more money?”

They paid $10 for the core then $50 for the expansion while vets paid $60 and $50. So why didn’t they rage against them getting it for $50 cheaper? Unless that made them angry, their argument makes no sense.

I think the word ‘free’ is what brings up the feelings of being shortchanged.

But I mean, the argument ends with this statement:

GW2 Core’s value is DOWN. When I bought it the value was UP. Ergo, I paid more. Supply/demand. We bought it during high demand, they get it during extremely low demand.

That’s business.

My reward for being a Veteran was an extra character slot (needed) an awesome dye (I messed up and picked a bad one) a heavy armor set (that is ugly to me and won’t be used) and a couple of other things. I think they were boosts. Was it 50$ in value? Probably not. But I wouldn’t expect ArenaNet to give me a refund 3 years later after I pumped countless hours into their game and ate up all the content it had to offer.

My feelings all stem from me paying 100$ for HoT and never feeling confident about the exp. pack content, a lack of confidence that continues to grow the closer we get to release.

Separate issue and mostly on me.

They do not get all the same content you got.. How many times do people have to point this out to people on these forums..

I’m starting to think people have killed way too many brain cells over there time to even think of saying something like this.

And I think fanboys need to stop being so emotionally involved with this game, they attack like rabid flesh eating dogs when someone points anything slightly negative about it.

It’s cool when you act like that when it’s about your Mother – when it’s about a game, you just look ridiculous.

What is going on? Why is GW2 so boring?

WvW is probably the single most boring thing I have ever done in my life. You know what an average WvW playtime consists of? Following a bunch of other people in a big zerg for about 20 minutes, run into en equally large zerg and then just spam buttons. No skill required – there is far too many people around for skill to mean anything. And the action is over and done with so quickly you’re back to running around maps looking for something to do. Boring.

sPvP? Meh. It’s alright. Same maps over and over again though makes it stale. Everyone uses the exact same builds now. You played 1 match you’ve played them all.

Be honest. Game is boring. I don’t want it to be – I just bought HoT after all and I’m still around. But it’s the truth.

Perhaps you’d be interested in this; Anti-zerging:

Personally, I’ve had the game since near laucnh, and while I’ve only played it on-and-off to purge the itch for a sub-fee MMO, I wouldn’t say I’ve ever gotten bored of it. Just other shiny games to play. The last couple of months have I’ve been hooked though.

So I really don’t agree that it’s boring, but I have come to realize its basically impossible for devs to be able to keep pace with the level of content consumption of gamers.

Oh I agree re: the content thing. MMORPG are at some point going to hit that ‘wall’ with players. GW2 satisfied my urges for a good while. Though I do find I miss having that gear progression or something similar to it. Never thought I’d say it, but in GW2 every seems… pointless? I guess. Others love that ‘not chasing the carrot’ thing. I thought I would but I’ve found myself to be in the other column. Chasing the carrot isn’t so bad to me now that I’ve seen the other side.

Regarding the video – that’s EOTM. Most of the players are uplevel alt’s. There is far, far more action in EOTM than in WvW, and from a rewards stand point, it beats WvW by a large margin.

The problem is that EOTM is largely PvE with PvPZerg fights mixed in. WvW is PvPZerg fights mixed in and it’s boring as kitten because if you’re fighting in WvW, you’re probably Zerging.

I made a roaming Thief build with the stated gameplan of playing WvW as if it was open PvP in any other game. I barely saw anyone not in a large group. It’s geared toward zerging.

I would never expect for someone who has only played an mmo for at max an hour, to have such a vocal opinion already. They are even questioning reviews, despite the fact that they haven’t played the game much themselves.

It’s called having a first impression.

I thought GW2 had a great first impression. The story is pretty horrible and it’s presentation is bad, but the world itself was awesome to explore and felt very much alive.

Final Fantasy 14: Reborn is so boring it made me want to register on their forums and rant at them. I didn’t though

Since I never paid money for it, no point.

Don’t really want to get into an argument with a fanboy but meh.

There isn’t anything subjective about it. GW2 is boring. The best part of the game ends when you are finished the story and exploring the maps (This includes Jumping Puzzles).

After that, or rather at ‘end game’ there isn’t anything to do.

You can only do the same exact world bosses over and over so many times before you’re bored to tears. I reached that point a year ago with them.

You can only do the same exact dungeons over and over so many times before you’re bored to tears. The dungeons themselves are boring as hell, too. Stack in corner, kill boss. Run past trash mobs. Stack in corner kill boss. Wake me up. Please.

WvW is probably the single most boring thing I have ever done in my life. You know what an average WvW playtime consists of? I’ve played since launch. I took a break 8 months ago. I just came back around a week ago. I’m doing the EXACT same things now as I was then (Silverwastes, sPvP, Dungeons). Nothing has changed.

So now I’m trying to collect dyes. How joyful.

Oh and Fractals? Basically Dungeons, just takes longer.

“If it’s that boring, why do you still play?”

No idea. I don’t log in much anymore as it is.

Anyway. Convo over.

Want to see a excessively boring game? Try FF14. Man. I was bored to tears within an hour of logging in.

Anyway the best part of GW2 is just when you are starting out. It gets really boring when you’ve finish doing the story and exploring the maps.

If you’re already bored – I’d leave. It doesn’t get much better, honestly.

Thief is using the Staff as a Polearm. It’s basically completely different usage than any other class that uses a Staff.

Think of The Monkey King, or Guan Yu.

So you can almost (almost) make the point that the Thief has a completely different weapon.

Having said that, I’ma bit meh on the new weapons.

I main an Ele and was hyped for Sword or Greatsword (Battlemage) and when Warhorn was confirmed that hype evaporated. I can only think of one weapon worse than Warhorn on an Ele and that would be Torch.

Same thing with LB on Guardian, Torch on Warrior (Though that Spec looks awesome, so good job there).

Just bought Heart of Thorns Ultimate and I was under the impression that being a Veteran (played since launch) I would get a total of two extra character slots:

One from the Ultimate purchase
One from owning the Core game prior to a specific date

As it is, I only got 1 extra character slot and 4 beta slots.

Was I under the wrong assumption? Or is the Veteran Slot not active until HoT release?

Anyway for this to be checked by staff?

Solution to fix the population imbalance

in WvW

What I see here is a bunch of suggestions to merge servers without calling it merged servers.

@Dusty Moon, no, being able to float and defend an objective is IMO a pretty important part of the game. BGBL is boring enough as is, if the TC/SoS forces couldn’t float there in an attempt to catch us off guard or get us off other maps then it’d just be completely dead, and I’d be stuck there twiddling my thumbs hating WvW.

Not really – basically your server is your Alliance. If you cannot plan an Alliance general defense and plan (like what guilds go to what server and not just blob together) then the balance should or could be there. If your server doesn’t have a cohesive plan or is just so big it only cares about numbers in a blob COUGH BG COUGH then maybe it is time you have one.

You’re misunderstanding the issue. My guild is assigned to BGBL, thing is we’re stuck there twiddling our thumbs hoping TC/SOS will attack the majority of the time. The only time we get action is when TC/SoS floats to our BL to make an attempt, then they’ll bounce back off. TC will show up in massive number (full blob) hit something, do pretty well, eventually get pushed out, and then we’re back to twiddling our thumbs hoping they’ll do it again. If it wasn’t for their ability to float we’d probably not see any action all night.

That’s your own servers fault for over-stacking and destroying T1. It’s going to get much worse.

Right now, JQ and TC are basically outnumbered by BG 90% of the time. The problems of lower Tiers were brought into Tier 1 by StackGate greed.

Which is a good thing – destroying WvW might get aNet to wake up and realize a major part of their game is basically dead.

I think what they’ll try to do to stop the bleeding is knocking Tiers ‘together’ like Edge, with multiple servers sharing the same battleground, and call it something like ‘Alliances’ (decided by glicko) but that’s not going to do a kitten thing because of how disgusting the balance between servers already is.

For example, Tier 1 and Tier 2 would end up looking like this right now:

StackGate+JadeQuarry VS Tarnished Coast+Fort Aspenwood VS Sea of Sorrows+Maguuma.

I mean, that’s a joke, so that can’t happen.

If we go by non-Tournament, it would be:

StackGate+Sea of Sorrows VS Jade Quarry+Fort Aspenwood VS Tarnished Coast+Magumma.

That would be 1+1 VS 2+2 VS 3+3 (Place in their Tier). That’s still a massive joke.

If you did a 1+3, 2+2, 3+1 you get:

StackGate+Maguuma VS Jade Quarry+Fort Aspenwood VS Tarnished Coast+Sea of Sorrows

That’s a bit better, I guess.

There is no way to fix it. The problems with WvW are very much in the core of the system.

aNet knew this so they introduced Edge of the Mists. Edge of the Mists wasn’t put in as a buffer zone, it was put in as a replacement. That’s why it has greater rewards, multiple server support on one color and a lot of the same gameplay as WvW.

World Vs World is dead.

They should just get rid of it and replace it with a GvG system with cross-server alliances and drop the server=world aspect altogether.

It’s going to come to that anyway.

Azumi.9572

Who cares at this point? The only semi-competitive Tier was Tier 1, and BlackGate destroyed that by cannibalizing Guilds off other servers (And paying for it) before this Tournament. JQ and TC now don’t stand a chance. They both got humiliated at the start of this Tournament, then they both got humiliated in later matches (TC now being dominated this week).

Now they are getting guilds from SoS, too.

So what’s the point? WvW is dead. No competitive Tiers, dying and drying up population, less influx of casuals due to EotM being a much better fit for them, etc.

Edge of the Mists replaced it, basically. Pointless to worry about WvW at this stage.

Server "full" issues

in WvW

Posted by: Azumi.9572

Azumi.9572

So just a theory here but I think they locked the higher tier servers because of the recent flood of new players to the game. Where all the people r coming from Idk but I can say the in my guild on sor i know of at least 13 people that stated the game in the last 2 months and have heard much of the same form other guilds. Perhaps Anet is hoping these new people will take up wvw and balance out things a bit

If that is their hope, it’s a laughable one. WvW was always a very unstable type of system due to the numbers of outside influences that could ruin it – namely WvW population, another issue is timezones, etc.

There doesn’t really exist a fix for it – you can’t force people to WvW. The only solution would be to make WvW servers standalone so rather than getting the WvW population from among PvE’ers and the like, the people who sign up for WvW servers are WvW players.

This would allow aNet to balance along WvW server population.

Server "full" issues

in WvW

Posted by: Azumi.9572

Azumi.9572

To be fair, JQ has the same issue and TC had the same issue re: being outnumbered by BG.

Blackgate has massive numbers. We all know why.

There isn’t really a fix for it. aNet allowed the WvW stacking and it basically ruined the T1 bracket.

But, it’s no different than on any other Tier. It’s an inherent problem with WvW.

I happen to think the vision is simply a foreshadowing of what might happen – basically, the Elder Dragons awakening is a cycle. Civilizations rise, reach their apex and start consuming Magic, and Elder Dragons wake up and destroy the civilizastions if not the entire people(s).

What the vision showed was the last cycle, when the Dragons eviscerated those ancient civilizations.

Fractal Relics for the finisheed LS Backpiece

in Living World

Posted by: Azumi.9572

Azumi.9572

Considering this is a high end item, I was surprised that it required only 5 pristine fractal relics. It should have been at least 10, like the ascended rings do.

You can see this from my point of view as well. I spend most of my game time doing fractals. And I had to suffer through the mindless geode, dragonite and foxfire farming.

Doing 5 level 1 fractals with a group of friends is nothing compared to the hours spent in Dry Top and its annoying jumping skills.

And if people cannot figure out how to get to the end of a jumping puzzle, without having to do the jumping themselves, maybe they don’t really deserve to have a special backpiece.

I can grind Foxfire, Geodes, and Jumping Puzzles by myself. I don’t have to count on someone else and someone else doesn’t have to count on me. I can do it at my own pace. Fractals I cannot. I don’t have to listen to someone insult me, rage-quit, or boot me.

Here’s another thing – you’re biased in this because you do these things everyday and probably have a group you run with. It’s a comfortable thing for you.

What about new players, or returning players (like myself). I don’t have a group I can run with. I haven’t even set foot in a Dungeon in 2 years, anyone I played with quit around the same time I did and no longer play.

No one wants to PUG a Fractal, least of all with a virtual noob who has never done one. Even looking on LFG for simple Dungeon runs every single one of them is “Exp. 80’s Zerker or kick” basically. Fractals on LFG are the same.

Maybe you’re stuck in a bubble with regards to this game as you’ve reached a comfort level – so I’ll let you in on a secret, as someone who would have to ‘pug’ group content – the Guild Wars 2 community is horrible by and large.

Azumi.9572

I just find this game is very.. how can I put it? ‘Group Content’ unfriendly, I guess?

There doesn’t seem to be any cohesion. Because there is no set trinity and everyone can pretty much do everything, it just feels like an attitude of solo-oriented play gets extended to group content.

In other games when running Dungeons I knew my role was defined by my class (Healer, Tank, DPS) in this one – not so much. Not only that, but in other games, the group talked about the mechanics of the fight and what to do.

In this game there is nothing like that and it goes from extreme silence from players, to nothing but toxic attitudes (that makes you not want to spend the next x amount of time with them)

Then you have the ‘Meta’ builds (Basically, one set way for equipment, traits, etc.) that are basically demanded, and you have yourself an unpleasant experience.

I honestly don’t foresee myself doing any Dungeons or Fractals for as long as I play this game.

Mists Stone for 1000 Badges of Honor ?

in Living World

Posted by: Azumi.9572

Azumi.9572

This situation hits home for me. I started playing GW2 when it first came out – finished the Story, ran some dungeons (Mostly AC and CM but some Twilight also) then quit. I had around 300 hours (that’s it) in my character when this happened.

I came back about 3ish weeks ago. As you can imagine, I’m far, far behind. My gear is horrible (been working on it), my build was kitten (Found a few I’m okay with), and everything was basically new to me – not just the Living Story (wasn’t around for Season 1) but EVERYTHING.

I haven’t touched a Dungeon since with the exception of Honor of The Waves Story – horrible experience. The people I was grouped with were nice and friendly for the most part, but it was far harder than I thought for a story mode (this is prior to me getting a working build, so there was L2P issues present).

So, here I am wanting this new backpiece (remember, I need to upgrade my characters gear) and to do so I need to run Fractals – awesome, except I’ve never done even level 1. My experience with Dungeons is limited to three and that was 2 years ago.

The other options people talk about (WvW, Jumping Puzzles, etc.) are simple. I’m not hurting anyone or wasting others time when I go about those things – only my own.

If I jump into a group of Fractals, provided I can even find one willing to take a newb (And most are not, that is for sure) I very well could mess it up for four other players and cause them to waste their time.

It’s not about me breaking my comfort zone, or having to grind or anything like that. The issue here is my lack of experience can hurt other players, and the only way I can get the experience necessary to NOT hurt them, is to.. hurt them. It’s a cycle of negativity.

Not only that, I know how toxic the player base is in this game when it comes to group situations – I see it on the LFG, or by just listening to players talk, even in my own Guild (a lot of belittlement toward pugs and the like).

I would love to get into Dungeons and Fractals – but honestly, in this game, that feels almost like The Wall in Game of Thrones – impassable. There is a sense, for this game, that if you are ‘new’ there are certain things that are out of reach.

Every group I see, wants a ‘speed run’. No one wants to have a newb come along if that newb can be the difference between a 15 minute clear and a 2 hour clear.

As such, this back-piece is beyond my reach. I’m not really disappointed all that much, as intellectually, I understand that the only thing hold me back is me – I can just be selfish and say, “Who cares if I waste their time? I need to learn, so I’ll use these players as stepping stones” however, it’s not my personality.

Taking GW2 in as a whole – I think the game simply has a toxic community. sPvP is filled with putrid personalities, too.

So, here’s what seems to be the facts:

This issue is happening to all games under the NCSoft logo (Aion, WildStar, GW2, Lineage)

This issue didn’t start until around July the 28th

WildStar, and later GW2 both had updates around this time-frame (Sabotage for WildStar, Dragons Reach for GW2)

This issue is happening to people in many different Regions (Australia, Canada, Latin America, United States, Europe)

Using a VPN or other rerouting program fixes the issue, but nothing else works

The issue seems to be internet traffic route issue. Whatever the problem is occurs between the Players connection and the route the data takes from the Players connection to the NCSoft data-servers. Using a VPN reroutes the path the Players connections takes to NCSoft servers, enabling a working connection. So, some data-centers along this route are not functioning correctly.

The problem is – who does this issue fall under? The many ISPs from many different regions whose customers are experiencing this problem on NCSoft games, but nothing else, or NCSoft/ArenaNet/Carbine etc.

Ergo, this is a multifaceted issue which more than likely won’t be fixed in a satisfactory time period.

A Dev. on Aion basically said the only solution right now is the use of VPNs.

Which isn’t an option for some people, meaning right now, GW2 simply isn’t an option for some people.

I’m pretty sure this problem started because of Wild Star. They just had an update when this started happening (Around the end of July). This basically nuked something with regards to NCSoft’s server(s) and is causing a ton of grief on different games under the NCSoft name (Wild Star, Aion, GW2, Lineage)

You have a bunch of companies involved in this, too. ArenaNet is just one of them.

For whatever reason, the route the traffic is taking from some consumer connections to the server locations (and possibly specific hops on their routes) is getting dropped.

As for people getting stuck – it’s possible GW2 stores the last known IP (of the map you are on) and continues to try loading into that server IP, resulting in a cycle of continuous log-outs without attaining connection as the traffic from our connection to said IP is being dropped.

My main has been stuck for two days in Straits of Devastation – unable to play him. This at a time when I’m trying to complete a time-gated grind-fest.

Just to the other Nova Scotians (Surprised to see so many others on here actually), I am also having a login IP issue. I keep ending up connecting through NB IPs. I’m here in Cape Breton, as far away from NB in NS as possible. Yet, on my account it says three different IPs, two of which are New Brunswick and one of which is Nova Scotia. I removed the two NB, attempted to log in and it sent me a verification email. The email said I was attempting to login from NB.

I remember near launch I had a similar issue with this, but it was not detrimental to my ability to actually play the game. Near launch I was apparently trying to login from NFLD. I removed that IP and it automatically reset to my NS IP.

sigh Since there is little public acknowledgement on behalf of Anet/NCsoft (whichever) it looks like it’s not a huge priority for them. Warlords of Draenor looks interesting I guess…

I think that’s the only option at this point. I just came back to the game and bought gems, so I’m kinda upset about it. If it wasn’t for that, I’d uninstall and move on.

But yeah, if you have other games to play I’d recommend it. This issue probably won’t be fixed for awhile (if ever).

It’s not really aNet’s fault. It’s happening to other NCSoft games, too. Aion, Lineage, WildStar, etc.

This is an NCSoft issue. They are having problems with a bunch of their games and their network routes via many different ISPs.

I doubt it’ll be fixed. Time to think about moving on to a different game, I think.

Aion, WildStar, GuildWars 2, etc. are all having it.

It’s clearly on ANet’s side. Too many players from too many different regions and it only started happening after the Dragon Reach update(s).

The interesting thing is, I don’t see anyone from the United States posting – so I’m guessing it’s a international routing issue.

been having this issue since the 29th im in the usa on sea of sorrows server
tried everything to fix this and nothing has helped and had my dailys not reset unless I stayed on the toon I was on when reset happened

The 29th was the Dragon Reach update iirc. It’s good to note it’kittenting Americans, too, though. Means it might be looked at quicker.

PC & Mac keep crashing.

Getting the same issue. I think it’s connected to the server issues or connection issues they are experiencing right now. Just started happening.

Got this issue as well. Happened after the latest ‘small patch’. Basically, getting spammed every couple of minutes with an ‘error unable to access log-in server…’.

First started happening when I entered Heart of the Mists on an alt.

Cannot see Guild most of the time when this issue starts – can play generally normally for awhile until I map change, in which disconnect and ending up ‘stuck’ happens.

Another issue I’ve had with this – when it does work, and I can see my Guild and no error messages, after awhile I will get a crash with the option of sending a report of it to ANet. Never happened before this.

Obviously with this, doing anything with the Trading Post is impossible and foolish. I lost some money (nothing worth noting) by selling something and couldn’t get the coins. Just a warning to anyone selling items worth big coins.

I would say it makes the game mostly unplayable at this point, as you never know when you’ll get disconnected.

I was doing Guild Events when I got DC’d and my character stuck.
