Will be updating this from time to time
Upsilon Alpha Rho (FRAT)
Mission Statement:
This is your chance to join a fraternity if you haven’t yet. Upsilon Alpha Rho is a Fraternity inspired guild. Brotherhood and loyalty is the core value. Created today, December 5, 2012 5:00pm (GMT+8), the guild aims to be a competitive sPVP and WvW guild.
Server: Currently Isles of Janthir (IOJ), but I’m flexible depending on the majority of the first batch of recruits.
Current Members:
Being that this guild is literally just a few minutes old, I’m the only member of the guild together with my vision, my in game name is Strikethree. I hope I can share this vision with as many brothers as possible.
About me:
I’m a dedicated player. I’m on at least 3-5 hours a day, everyday. My playtime increases dramatically depending on how my day goes at work. My main is a level 80 thief, and I’d like to believe I have a good understanding of that profession. My vision is to be able to assemble quality players, like-minded players who strives to always improve their skill sets in WvW and PvP. As a leader, I’d like to believe I’m mature and logical. I’m not a PRO, but I was hoping to become one with you
Ranking and Organizational Structure:
In every group, there’s a need for effective hierarchy to organize the chain of command, respect among members, and smooth delegation of tasks. The following are the guild’s current positions:
Grand Council
Grand Officer
Grand Commander
Director
Recruiter
Veteran Member
Senior Member
Junior Member
Neophyte
Promotion, Recruitment, Demotion, and Removal:
Carrot and Stick. The more good you contribute to the guild, the higher chances of getting promoted, likewise, the opposite will merit a demotion and eventual removal depending on the gravity. Generally, a voting system among key members will be observed in every player movement within the guild. Currently, there are no rewards for getting promoted aside from respect among other members and increase in access on different guild functions.
Activities:
The guild’s core activity are sPVP and WVW. However, this doesn’t mean that we will not run dungeons as a guild. Of course, there will be organized dungeon runs as well. FRAT being a PVP guild only means that the ratio of PVP:PVE will slightly favor PVP activities. At the moment, there are no concrete activities as the guild will initially focus in upgrading its influence at the same time get to know people more.
Rules:
Respect and everything should fall into place.
Who am I looking for, Requirements?
There’s no level, class, or profession requirement. I’m looking for people who love to PvP/WvW but has no current home, Upsilon Alpha Rho (FRAT) will welcome you with open arms. We’ll also welcome people who haven’t played PvP/WvW that much but INTERESTED, the eagerness to learn is the only requirement.
Time: Very important for setting events and organizing runs whether PvP, WvW, and PvE dungeons. I’m from Philippines, the timezone is GMT+8. If you’re from the other side of the world, I’m sure we can work something out, if you’re within my timezone, no problem.
Communication: At the moment, there’s no VoIP, but I’ll be working on it once people start coming in. For guild site, forums, facebook page, all those are in the to-do list once the guild starts growing
If you’re interested, please do reply in this thread, or send me a private message here in the forums or in-game. Once again, my in-game name is: Strikethree.

sPvP is very unrealistic PvP.
I admit it takes skill and coordination, but quite frankly its kiddy PvP. Ya know wtf is coming each match. You know what each class is bringing to the table that month.
WvW is a bit different since each class generally has different builds due to the amount of space you have to work with. Yes I’ve seen the pure sPvP builds out in WvW and ya know what? They died w/ a bit of kiting after blowing their CDs.
WvW will always be the true measure of ones ability to PvP. There are no rules…regulations or any of the lame crap in sPvP. Its just pure uncensored PvP.
So the fact that the titles are easier to get is a no brainer.
Being both a sPvP player and a WvW, I completely disagree. WvW is not the true measure of one’s ability to PvP, rather, it’s a measure of an entire server’s ability to engage in warfare, macro management. You must remember that not everyone in WvW wears the same gears with same levels, while in sPVP everyone has the same level and tier of gears. It’s a lot easier to kill in WvW, all you have to do is go with the zerg and try to tag as many invaders as you can before they get finished off, that’s why the titles take longer to get in WvW, because killing is a lot easier. Just a while ago, I was running with a zerg and I managed to get 50+ kills in less than an hour, all I did was spam AOE on those red names…in sPVP, there’s no zerging…you will put more effort into your kills and points in a field where everyone’s the same level with same gears as you. sPVP is the true test of one’s ability to PvP, not WvW. However, WvW is the true test of a server’s war tactics and ability to cover all timezones. Apples and Oranges. PvP and WvW measure different things, but individual skill measure belongs to sPvP.
I do agree that there’s a lack of low tier titles in WvW. In sPvP kills, there’s progression, from Gladiator, to Mercenary, to Slayer and so on until you get Ascendent…in WvW, it’s just Ultimate Dominator…there should be tiers lower than Ultimate titles.

Again, you run up to your allies, and you share your venom one at a time if they’re spread out, that’s why you’re using P/P to unleash damage while in the process (I’d like to see you try sharing your venoms using D/D while everyone’s all over the place). You don’t need everyone to have all the same venoms at once, you just need one of them to have your venom so your skills are still being used while you hit unload and apply the same poison. You can do this every every 36 seconds, so with practice, you can have a perma-poison team, while you still being able to do damage via your P/P constantly…you cannot DPS while trying to share your venoms in a D/D because you’ll be out of range for the most part…
Aug 2012 (IoJ) → Jan 2013 (FA) → June 2013 (BG)
I’m aware of the range, I just didn’t think I had to elaborate it. You run around and walk up to them, that’s the reason for the P/P, because you will be running around a lot trying to share your venom while still being able to unleash damage.
Aug 2012 (IoJ) → Jan 2013 (FA) → June 2013 (BG)
P/P is a good balance of sustained damage and survivability which can be summed up into one word: support. Thieves are very good in support with venom sharing (offensive) and keeping their team alive (defensive), while still being able to unleash sustained damage (You cannot have it all, as they say). I’ve not run with any team that looked down on the way I play my P/P thief.

Finally beat the Clock Tower Puzzle!!!...and again...and agian...and again...
Posted by: Bananasmile.4126
After 2 days of trial and error, my twitch muscles finally got it. It’s definitely beatable, I’m finishing it 1 out of 3 tries at the moment…I’m currently farming it for ToTs.
The thing is, it’s like riding a bicycle, once you get it, you get it, you can do it again…and again. I’m not a special player, I’m not skilled or PRO or anything like that, I’m just persistent. That said, good luck, and don’t give up. The feeling of beating something like this is worth it, boosts your confidence a lot as a player.

I finally beat the clock tower after hours of trial and error, now I farm it with for ToT bags. Stop whining and practice. It’s not impossible. I’m using a human thief.

I’m from Asia and the event will happen here at 3am Monday. I’m a working person, I have a family and mouths to feed as well. So if we’re talking about being busy and real life pressures, I got them. Yet, I can confidently say I’ll still make it to this event. Do I think it’s the best time? No, but I’m not complaining…why would I complain if I like the game? Events like these are just bonuses. I will attend the event to show my appreciation for the game even if it means going of my way…that’s my mentality. It’s like attending someone’s birthday party, if that person is important to you, you will attend his party regardless of your busy schedule, you’ll make time. If I like a game enough, I’ll make time for it. I don’t see why people complain and complain…these are very manageable tasks. Act first then talk later.

That game format is called MOBA (Multiplayer online Battle Arena), and yes it’s really fun. Also read Anet is already working on a MOBA game…something to look forward to.

Why are people getting so worked up over one thing?…It’s not like it has any game breaking rewards?…C’mon, this is just getting ridiculous.
Aug 2012 (IoJ) → Jan 2013 (FA) → June 2013 (BG)
Just keep trying…these people who you refer to as “gifted” and “experienced” weren’t born that way, they’re the ones who just kept moving forward…
Aug 2012 (IoJ) → Jan 2013 (FA) → June 2013 (BG)
Ah I think what the OP is referring to are console games which are predominantly action-based (requiring twitch muscles) where MMORPGs are almost non-existent (with exemptions of a few).

This guy probably lives in the same timezone as mine, it’s also happening at 3am on Monday here. I’m from the Philippines, and we have a decent amount of player base in our server at least (Isles of Janthir). Unlike him though, I’m not complaining. Just clarifying on the timezone issue.
I also think people should respect his opinion, it’s out of frustration, maybe he really won’t quit the game? He clearly wanted to participate. People say things when they’re pissed. Every player counts.

1. Shortbow to harass, maximize range
2. Be on the lookout for retreating people or people who took hits…when you see one, switch to D/D and go for the quick kill
3. Then go back to your position…rinse and repeat.
Personally, I see a thief as a counter-oriented profession. Never initiate, let them attack you or chase you. Cherry pick your battles, only the ones you think you can kill quickly. I only fully commit (D/D) on a kill when I’m certain that player has a depleted health, otherwise, just potshot and frustrate them ’til they rage on you and make the mistake of chasing you away from his group.

Unless I’m near the actual NPCs, only the icons related to World Completion (Heart, POI, Vistas, Skill Challenge) appear in my map consistently. So let’s say I’m at Divinity’s Reach, I can see all the NPC icons within Divinity’s Reach…but I can’t find a single NPC icon in Queensdale (and everywhere else) except for Hearts, POI, Vistas, and Skill Challenge.
I toggled all the map icons checkbox (commerce, crafting, navigation, services, vendor, and world completion).

Hello,
So I’ve been trying to install the game for several days already. I’ve reinstalled the game countless times both from the CD’s and the website. Uninstalled my Anti-Virus, turned off Firewall. Ran as administrator at all times. Ran in compatibility mode (Windows XP sp2 and 3). Created shortcuts with -repair and -image. Used proxy programs to download from other countries. Saved in desktop (some think saving in Program File is the culprit). Ran MSCONFIG and disabled programs that might interfere with the installment. Ran CMD, and performed -flushdns, assigned new DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 after that, nothing happened. Decent internet connection. Updated my drivers. Surpassed the minimum requirements. I tried most (if not all) possible suggestions in different forums related to my issue, nothing works. I hit a dead end, what am I missing?
