Hey Osi, I’ve seen some of your videos and wow I just realized how I wasn’t using my mesmer to its full potential :P Anyway, I was hoping for some advice about your mist build in terms of sPvP. What runes would you put in there instead of Air?

Power Build + Staff

In light of the upcoming changes to mesmer skills, particularly condition damage mesmer, I have decided to ditch my rabid condition build and have been experimenting with different power-based builds to fit my playstyle of using Staff/Sword+Focus. I know that many players prefer to use GS instead of Staff when using power-based builds but staff has always been my weapon of choice, especially for WvW and sPvP (I use GS for PvE) mainly because of the mobility it gives and also because of the boons. I also know that many of you who do use staff and power use it mainly as a clone machine for shattering.

So my question is: How have you guys who use power-based skills utilized the staff in WvW and sPvP? Does Chaos Storm do significant damage at all?

I really like this build and I’ve been playing around with it in sPvP although it would help so much if you had a video showing some of the tactics you explained XD

Mantra builds seem interesting and it looks like they have a lot of potential but as of right now I feel like they are built more for support-type gameplay. At least for me, it’s not enough to replace Null Field, Blink, or Feedback.

If they are going to nerf confusion, they should at least improve how well we stack other conditions to make condition mesmers still viable

Mesmer Vs Guardian

A very general look into it:

PVE – equal in effectiveness (guardians support through might stacks, adequate DPS; mesmers have incredible utilities such as Time Warp which makes it very viable for speed runs).

WvW – depends on your playstyle. (Guardians have a lot of interrupt that can seriously cripple enemy zerg movement while mesmers have glamour skills [confusion stacks] + portals which make them a lot more fun to use in WvW – at least for me :] ).

sPvP – Guardians seem to have an upper hand on this one (especially if they know what they are doing). It takes time to down a guardian that can easily knock you back from a point, preventing you from capturing it. Mesmers, on the other hand, have higher DPS and can be crucial especially against confusion-vulnerable enemies.

Quick Tip: CoF path 1’s boss has that aoe knockdown attack where you see him punch the ground and a pink stream of light goes towards you and knocks you down. That can be reflected. You can either:

1. Stay behind the boss at all times and melee using Sword + Focus (with iWarden reflecting that attack). This is good for mesmer/warrior parties when Time Warp is just about to be used.

2. After Time Warp, you might want to swap to a ranged weapon like GS. Use Feedback on the boss right as he is about to punch the ground in order to protect your party from getting knocked down.

1. Make sure you have heals remove conditions trait.

2. Manipulation range increase trait also helps so you can blink away from the mobs and into the safe spots (e.g. the tunnel).

3. Null field + sword #2 skill should get you through the part with the braziers. I often use Focus #4 to get the mobs away from me right when they spawn and then I couple this with GS #5 and #4 so it will take them a much longer time to actually do damage to me as they have to walk back into melee range.

4. Omnomberry bars + Flame Legion slaying potions is what you would want for gold farming.

I’m a little biased because I have a mesmer but even using only one condition removal skill (Null Field) in WvW, I am able to survive 15+ stacks of confusion. It’s really just being more aware of what skills you are using, utilizing water fields from eles, etc.

1 mesmer with 3 clones and illusionary persona and not running a glamour build:

CoF (30 second cooldown) = 4 stacks of confusion
Confusing Images (assuming it was channeled for all 3 seconds, -this rarely happens- 15 second cooldown) = 5 stacks of confusion

All other stacks must come from Chaos Armor… assuming a mesmer only has Null Field (45 second cooldown) as their glamour field, this would mean having a 1 minute cooldown on Chaos Amor if both Staff #4 and Null Field were used. All in all, this would mean putting down around 8 stacks of confusion at most if everything was used.

Now think of this times three. If I was focused by 3 of the same class, I’d probably melt too. The thing is, confusion depends on the skills you use…

Hi Eitte here. I had no idea this caused a fuss XD. But just to clear things up a bit…

I sort of remember spamming CoF this fight (combined with constant Chaos Armor). I also used a scepter, all of which allowed me to stack quite a bit of confusion. We weren’t that coordinated; however, we did focus on whoever we thought spammed skills the most. One of our mesmers had a power build (I’m not entirely sure, although I believe she was more inclined to use Mind Wrack) and none of us were running a glamour build.

The most confusion stacks I’ve seen in this fight was around 15 or so which leads me to believe that you might have spammed your skills too much there.

Hi guys, thanks for the quick responses.

To those who were wondering about my RAM, I have

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 × 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL (lol copy pasted)

I guess the easiest (but somewhat costly) option for me would be to buy 64-bit since I’m no expert on things like this

One thing though, I assume that by upgrading to 64-bit, the game should work smoothly? Or would there be a need for me to allow the use of all the physical RAM?

I have been getting this message from time to time (especially on busy maps like Lions Arch and WvW). I was wondering what could be done to prevent it without compromising too much of the graphics. I know there are some posts about this already but I do want to point out that my graphics card isn’t terribly bad which is what makes me wonder about what needs to be done to run the game at around medium to high settings.
