I added you in game, I can play all prof. I most experience with guardian, have been playing ele more lately too. Hit me up in game and we can practice together. I’m looking for a stable team and understand that it might take time to be at the top. This is a goal of mine and hope that is the same for the team.

In my expereince (which may be limited) almost every profession can synergize well with every other profession. Of course it depends on the builds, playstyles, and skill level of your team. Some builds work much better with other builds, like say a staff ele dropping fire fields, lightning fields, water fields, etc. and a burst warrior with combo finishers. Also some builds can be very “selfish” and not provide any sort of “support”. But even these professions/builds can work very well in a team where you have someone playing a support build to allow the “selfish” player to benefit greatly from boons/healing/etc.
It really helps to play regularly with the same team if you can. You get to know what they are bringing to the team, how they play and how good they are, and can adapt to work with those players for the greatest synergy. TPvP is going to be the best for that, and SoloQ will be the most difficult as you don’t really know the players, what they are playing, and what their skill level is.

Where did you watch it? Can you give a link? The one I watched with toker, nos, phant, etc a few hours ago, TCG won every match. TCG was down everytime at the start, but came back and won. Very close matches. Would love to be sure I’m on the same page as everyone else =D

but it’s mostly meta builds, and group DPS for PvE I believe. It may not be exactly what you are looking for, but it may be a starting point.
Ya that’s what I mean, something similar to that but for pvp. Only other option I can think of is to use a spreadsheet. Can someone list what professions synergy well with each other? Like Thief / Mesmer / Guardian, etc. This is still new to me and I am trying to figure out the theorycrafting / mindset behind team comps. Is there names for them like in WoW? i.e. KFC, *Name Cleave, Shadow Cleave, etc. There used to be an old guide on here that never got stickied by “Django” ( I think..) that explains a good process to follow when building a team roster, etc. I have tried to search for it with no luck =/. So basically that is what I am trying to get around to, gaining the knowledge of:
1. Team v Team Matchups (What to change/or not)
2. Each professions role (Support, Bunker, Team Fighter, etc ) btw what is a “bruiser”?
3. Rotational Matchups…who should go where ( i.e. necro goes to point to 1v1 engineer )
—I gather as long as you can outnumber the team your chances of winning are great, however if there are 2 fights 2v2 + 3v3 somewhere, isn’t it best to either swap a guy that can do a better job vs certain classes in order to cleanup quicker or does that not even matter?

Anyone know where I can find a tool for building teams? Something similar to build calculators that display synergies, optimal class v class match ups, etc. In WoW there are tools for building raid comps that display what buffs, debuffs, roles, etc. Is there such a tool for gw2 (pvp) ? Even if there isn’t, if I could pique someone’s brain on the process people go thru when building their team comps. For instance how does one decide to go with certain classes over the other, with particular builds that synergies well with each other?

Class Titles (non champion) = Total Wins from any match style (hotjoint, soloq, team q)
Champion Titles = Total Wins from only soloQ or team Q.

The only thing that can save sPvP isn’t some tournament or desperately pushing esports™, but to make pvp more accessible to newcomers by creating some sheltered learning enviroment or training area, where they can try pvp without running into highly-skilled people, and without the pressure of a scoring system.
This hit the nail on the head. A few weeks before this last patch I had gotten my wife all hyped up to play after 2 years of pestering her. She played PvE for a little while to learn her character and then began playing hotjoins, soloQ, etc. After two weeks of trying she quit with utter frustration. kitten happens soo fast it was hard for her to learn what to dodge / watch for, etc. The thing she was great at was being in the right places capping, helping team fights..For her the skill cap to learn wasn’t worth the frustration. Point blank it wasn’t fun. This was also before they removed rank viewing in spectate and she had to face team stacking. I do agree a progressive system would encourage newer players to stick it out and as a result the population will grow.

I know what you mean. Especially in soloQ. Too many random variables to effectively go AH. Some matches players on the team will go full yolo. 1 guy on far, 1 guy on mid, 1 guy stuck at home, 1 guy no where near a point fighting. It’s frustrating, b/c AH gets a huge buff with more team members around! For me it is about 50/50 that I end up with a team that rotates decently for not using VOIP. In tPvP with VOIP being AH bunker is so much nicer since your team calls out criticals (Where thief is, how many inc, etc. ) so that the team fights are in everyone’s favor. I have almost same win/loss ratio building dps or bunk. All depends on your random comp vs enemy random comp x player knowledge + ability.

That is so funny, I have the same situation based on my screen resolution. It is so annoying to be watching for stability or other boons only for them to be covered up by sPvP Messages. I was thinking the other day, “Why they hell is this blocking the target boon/condi bar?”…Game changing? Not for me, I’ve been ok with it since it only lasts for a few seconds. Annoying? Yes totally.

Great Guide! One thing I haven’t seen a lot about is condition control. What I mean by this is paying attention to what kind of conditions your team or yourself has, taking note the amount of stacks, durations. Too often I see guardians blow all their shouts to remove conditions that doesn’t need to be removed at that time for that current situation. For example, if you don’t need to kite, you are sitting on a point let that cripple run it’s duration.
From my experience (others can clarify):
*Poison – Always remove when able
Note: Some classes can reapply poison quickly in those situations I tend to let it run until I need to use a bigger heal. Also if the fight is finished and you notice the duration is almost over + you have enough health, then don’t cleanse it! This goes for most conditions after a fight is over it is usually best to let them run their duration. However keep in mind any team-mate that might need a cleanse depending on their health pool.
*Bleeds – Short duration, low stacks? Leave them be, wait until you have high stacks or long durations to clear them all at once.
*Cripple – If no-one needs an escape, kiting, or w/e let it run out.
*Vuln – Depends on amount of stacks and who is being focused.
*Torment – Depends on situation, duration
*Confusion – Depends on stacks – High amount then clear
*Fire – Depends on duration, but usually keep cleared
*Fear – Depends on situation
Note: How/When I clear this: If there is a team fight then I clear it to keep my team in the fight, If I happen to be left on a point, caught moving from one point to another – I’ll let it run its duration.
Immob: Are you/they being focused? Short duration? Wait it out.
Using your shouts at the right time makes a HUGE difference. Spamming them can work yes, but why use them when you don’t need to? That way you have them ready for those moments that really can make the difference for yourself and your team.

Wow…I been active in sPvP since patch release and recently decided to level a new toon. I already have 5 level 80s but want to play a new class. I run along enjoying leveling a new toon again until I reach level 35. At this point I assume all I needed to do was purchase each trait I want. Come to find out I have to spend skill points with it? Really? Skill points are being used to unlock my utilities. So I have the choice of doing the events that are my level or completing every zone. I mean this has become such a time sink now. I thought ok let’s do a few events. I find out to unlock certain traits I need to do higher level story ? Where is the logic in that? I remember an ANET post about the new system making it easier for new players. Leveling a new character I can see how difficult it would be for a new player. Setting rewards for time invested or effort too far out gives a sense of loss cause and hope. Good job if the goal was to stop people from making alts or making it more difficult for them. Take this as a customer complaint, if that thing matters to you. I am posting it here since it fits with a majority of these other posts here. I’m not sure why I keep playing…I am starting to really give up and see there is no hope. Far too many decisions that were poorly made since release. Everyone has ideas, but not all of them are great. Learn from your customers and stop taking away choices.

I love using travelers, I don’t notice a significant dps loss and with GS can dis-engage quite well in sPvP with the help of (non-target) leap and blocks.

Is this hotjoin? There is a sticky at the top stating they put a cap on hotjoin games b/c of botters. So they would rather you join soloQ or teamQ arena matches….I am specifically clicking to join ANET servers with progression and get 0 rank points or tier ups.

/bump the change to remove hotjoin cap from ANET hosted servers. Are custom and ANET servers code even decoupled? I would think be easier to decouple the code so you could make specific changes to one without the other. Especially for future plans….If it is, then why not remove the lock from ANET servers? (Was excited with the new track system, now I bummed out.) soloQ | teamQ? too competitive for me. I like the casual feel of hotjoin play and I can test builds on the fly. But limiting goal advancement is really a bummer.

A single trait should not counter an elite skill
A bug that needs to be fixed IMHO
Elite skills aren’t godmode utilities, they can be stopped if you use the right counter. Necro you can steal their stability on lich form, plague form and cc em, guardians you can cc them so they can’t use their tomes, mind you there are a few elites you can’t counter, but they are short and mostly work as a clutch without a HUGE difference in changing a fight. The above examples are only a few I can think of off the top of my head.

I would have to agree, I don’t personally join soloQ or teamQ very often. I do enjoy just casual hotjoin matches, but I have noticed the trend of higher rank players that know how to stack teams grow. It’s very frustrating with you are stuck with 5+ people that are low rank not knowing what to do. Yes, you can tell them what is going on, where to go, or obj of each map, however it doesn’t help when they go down all the time. I never was much of a pvper before, I used to play WoW battlegrounds, but being stuck on the wrong faction (alliance or horde) didn’t help if your faction lost 9/10 matches ALL the time. What got me started in pvp here was the system built to randomize players each map change. I loved it, that meant if you lost one map or well, next map you may have a better rotation of players. There wasn’t camping or stacking to get an advantage. But now having an advantage is allowed? I mean seriously I can imagine a lower rank player hardly having any time to react or learn what the kitten just happened…So my point is that I totally agree with removing the option to choose a side. Why can’t it be coded to allow side joining in custom arena for certain settings? I can understand not having to re-code for different purposes, but code for settings should be easy to change right? So now I find myself drifting more and more into PvE since PvP is nothing but a RAGE inducing wtf happened to common sense game setting balance….and pve is just boring.

Wait, to obtain the backpiece, do you need to play pvp, then have a tons of pve material to craft it,
or did you mean that, you have to do a tons of dungeons after playing pvp to get it
or did you mean that you have to do a tons of pve stuff after doing pvp stuff to get it?

because right now, you need to go do dungeon story and only to have your pvp reward track unlocked, so you can actually work on that.
From what I read and interpreted you have to have story mode unlocked for the dungeons tokens you wish to grind in PvP. Story mode isn’t difficult and that’s minimal to ask in order to get the tokens…or they can remove the track for the tokens and you then will be forces many hours grinding explorable mode in PvE format to get same said tokens for the skins they provide….There will be more than one track (goal) you can choose so you are only forced to choose between the many choices they provide you.

This happens elsewhere in the game too; target seems to be able to just ignore it anyways and run with the chains still on them without any ability to clear it.
Also, immobilize is not stopped by stability. It’s technically a condition.
Interesting so then possibly this is a bug? You are right it is a condition, so that would be then chains (graphic) would be removed if they cleared the immob.

Refering to sPvP arena play:
I have noticed a few times when using scepter #3 (chains of light) the player has the chain animation, but keeps on running and is not immobilized. I look at their bar to make sure stability, or any other ability, or boon that would tell me why the chains did not work. And each time the player’s bar is clear and should of been immob. The most recent was today, I used chains on a necro which didn’t immob. him, even though the graphic (chains) was still on him as he kept running. He wasn’t in deathshroud and if I remember the traited stun break does a fear? I never was feared. This has happened on just about every class. Sometimes it works under same said conditions other times, I am left guessing “how is that player still able to move?” ….Am I missing something? Is this a known bug?

I got a tome from a large rank up chest. Not sure of % to receive one as I have only gotten 1 rank chest since it takes longer at higher rank to get.
*Note: Most matches have been hotjoin. Not sure if tpvp gives more rank pts?

I just stumbled on the greatest invention ever! Hot-pocket cheeseburger bites! Just spreading the word, but to remain on topic I am looking forward to the new changes, additions. I don’t mind unlocks. But the one thing that really bothersome is the even more grindy feeling in spvp now. Yes it was grindy before for ranking, but at least I had some type of reward / jp to spend to give me that sense of something for my time investment. Now at higher rank the ranking still feels like a slow creep with nothing for macro-accomplishments. Like have a long term goal, but focusing on the sub goals, weekly goals to keep the motivation and sense of accomplishment live. Oops went of topic again. My b.

Early today (7/15), I deleted one of my character slots to make a new character. I had an item on the character that I purchased thru the gem store. (Plush char backpack). After submitting a ticket thru support I was told that I cannot get the item back and to be more careful. No one is to blame but myself, but it did happen and I’m sure that it has happened before for others. Which leads me to wonder, if there are digital items for sell, which can be accidentally destroyed, then why isn’t there a retrieval system? Blizzard has one. I now have lost trust in any future purchases b/c I know if something happens (murphy’s law) that I cannot rely on getting that item back. After all it’s not a tangible item, that cost(s) anything to continually make it. Its a virtual item, which I feel should be able to be restored. I’m not even asking for a refund, just my item back. Please tell is there another process other than buying more gems to get the item?

The dye is still not listed as normal list, but if I sort my dyes by set ( By Hue ) it is listed there. If I change back to normal dye list it doesn’t show. So I still have it, just have to sort my list by hue to see the color.

I just encountered the same thing. I found “Heirloom” and used it immediately on my armor. Went to Spvp Mists and wanted to color my pvp armor too, and it wasn’t listed. Went to Lion’s Arch crafted a few items and wanted to dye those, checked again wasn’t listed. So I thought maybe log in /out. Still not listed although half of my armor is dyed with the color. =/ Submit in game report, but not sure how I will get my dye back.

I came here to see if there was already posts about lfg for lower dungeons. I’ve pvped since early-start and just begun to pve. Finally reaching lvl 30 I find it really fustrating that it is taking a very very long time to find anyone for “story” mode (ac). I haven’t completed not 1 dungeon as of yet and starting to get discouraged in doing so for story modes. Would like to do those before I venture into the harder exp modes. I don’t mind all the lfg spam. Just wish there was responses to them. Guess instead of wasting my time lfg in the ac area, ill goto my level appropriate zone and level. Please add a feature to allow people to find others quicker / cross server.

Im confused to why the game even starts with unbalanced teams? If the roster is full and people leave before the game begins shouldn’t it reset, grab people from que to fill roster or cancel all together?
Was in one today that wasn’t even worth playing. I’ve played 3v5 / 4v5 (actually won one on a 4v5) but starting a match 2v5….There is a simple solution. Yes maybe there aren’t enough players and Q times will increase to start a match, but its all a waste of time anyways for the lesser team. Please fix this.
