No not a challenge, and that’s solved by Boost. That said, if I activate boost, i’ll lag all anonymous users watching the site by roughly 5-10 minutes behind everyone else as I cache the heck out of everything.

This is my 10th or so website i’ve built with Drupal and this will not be the largest one I built. I do not believe that the traffic levels will even make the sql server burp. My other drupal website was easily a hit a second over 100,000+ SQL/computationally heavy pages (views accessing custom data tables that were aggregating over 12+ gb of text data receiving another 30 mb of data each additional day).

If I had to run all of GW2 yes, that would be an issue, but this is merely a subforum and right now we’re roughly around 15-20 simultaneous users, which is nothing. I expect when the Matchup forum closes, we hit maybe 30-40…. which is still nothing.

Is that a challenge?

Who agrees? They aren’t shutting down our subthread because they dislike us, a business is a business and if you think about it in the sense of resources. Then change the word resources into money and bingo, people cost money to employ. You have to reduce the need to employ them before you can fire them. Reduce the forum population so you can fire the moderation team and use generic moderating software with a few people to check on the posts saves a lot of money.

Each infraction says its given by a human moderator. Thats quite a few people employed to read my posts alone and I reckon from looking at posting tracks of the staff that atleast 1/5th of a mods time is spent in our WvW subthread.
So they can sack 1/5th of their staff if they remove us.
Someone check the math/logic on that but,

As a stately representative of ‘Troll land’ on gw2wvw.net I have to say that the rules should be simple;

• Down voting does not exist, no posts will be hidden/removed
• Upvoting should be in place, for all the true top lels.
• Moderation ONLY for things deemed illegal/unsavory in western society and spam e.g. CP or Gore are illegal and unsavory. And it will be restricted to these things.
• 1 community moderator from each server to be voted by that server if possible.
• NSFW +18 waver when entering forum

Ironically, if NSP had tanked into Bronze league (every other server near the boundary of a league tanked) then we’d likely be seeing a revitalization of NSP’s WvW right now — that’s exactly what happened with HoD.

Its almost as if..
all the people on NSP who knew how WvW worked..

and tried to get into Bronze..
While the bads screamed for silver..

We didn’t even get a chance to “tank”, even if we wanted to. We lost 5 WvW guilds (including 2 very large guilds), countless commanders, and a number of independent ship-jumpers the Thursday before Leagues started. There was no way we belonged in Silver, yet we still somehow survived after 7 weeks of being farmed, and we’re beginning to rebuild now. Here’s to hoping NSP does the same, since I can’t help but sympathize with the only other server in Silver who could understand what it’s like to never see a WP in any of their keeps for 2 months.

We should reform our two servers into one server called the Isle of Shiverpeaks and take the WvW scene by storm.
Next time transfers are cheap/free? What do ya say?

I’d happily donate funds to a new forum which has no moderation at all except to remove spam bots. I am from 4chan. This is highly possible. Infact, I believe if our GW2 forum mods even read /b/ theyd realise what a waste of time this all is.

Anyone else wish to put their neck on the line and fund a little project? I’d honestly be willing to put money into this for the simple fact that it’ll annoy the dudes boss who decided to shutdown our subforum instead of taking the money himself. A server and URL is something along the lines of £100 a year and if we can get one of the many many site designers to help us from the community we can cut costs there.

Every infraction has the reasoning and rule included with it in the notification sent to you. In every match up thread you always see people trolling and/or attacking one another.

You can insinuate anything into breaking the rules in a report message. Examples of it can be found in this thread, I’ve given 2 myself.

I never took anyone seriously in the threads. I always found it a good place for entertainment. I don’t think the issue was necessarily the negative posts, I think the issue was the overly aggressive moderators. Some of my most innocent and dopey jokes were removed and infracted. Let your community have some trash talk and aggressive banter, it’s just going to end up in some other subforum if this one is removed….. The problem won’t be solved.

So they’re just filtering the rawest of the opinions, which the vast majority are disagreeing with the decision.

Threads do not get locked and posts do not get infracted because of a single person. It takes people reporting them to do it.

This would have gotten your post deleted and possibly infracted. Now I know that wasn’t your intent, but you can see how youre impressing your opinion onto the report post, making it out as if its something that it is not.

How this will work:

• Anet removes Matchup thread subsection

• Everyone is confused for like 30seconds

• New matchup threads created in WvW Discussion Subthread

• Trolling continues as usual

• Either they ban half of their community or they bring back our subthread and leave us alone.

The funny thing is ANet barely moderates it anyway.

The threads have calmed down since Season 1, which ANet didn’t moderate during at all. So it’s funny they decided now is the best time to deem too unsavoury.

The good thing is that it seems people are starting to care as little about WvW as ANet does. We might not need that forum anyway!

What I know (I believe and have speculated), please feel free for anyone to correct me:
The moderation is split between Arena net and NCsoft staff, this causes problems within itself as one staff set tend to disregard certain types of posts while the other set runs a more Viacom like system (If you are unaware of Viacom then you can look at websites such as Neopets and Penguin Hotel) which is essentially for children and unsuitable for any adult environment.

Now the Community team got together just before seasons and decided to permanently ban everyone who had totalled up past a certain level of infractions. This was without appeal and within their right of course.

This was their first measure to combat the result of a competitive environment in WvW subthreads. As after all their job isn’t to make the game enjoyable and retain community figures, its to keep everyone in line.

Which is where I believe the fatal flaw in the forum system lies and saddens me greatly. Although staff may turn around and disagree that this isn’t their agenda, it does indeed appear to be the lasting impression and I would indeed like to know the reason for this decision as its evidently unclear if this isn’t what they have been intending for months.

Seasons created competition which I believe was the developers intent, many people enjoyed it and eagerly shook their fist at their competition on the forums. And then they were infracted because of it. Some were suspended. Others banned and the threads locked.
Now, does that make sense? No. What it sounds like is a lack of communication between departments and an inability of flex company policy to encompass a living organism in which the company itself is fuelling.
Rigging the elections and then complaining that they were unfair is simply counter productive, a designer creates the world around him and its been within developments control to work with the community to find a solution to their problems.

I point no fingers, these are just my observations. But I would also like to simply draw everyones attention to the sheer about of views a weekly matchup thread receives in comparison to something like the Discussion subthread or Linksville.
A 5 day thread in matchup absolutely destroys a month old thread in these other subsections, what does that tell me? That tells me someone has made a horrific mistake in trying to gut the core community of the forums. But that is my honest opinion.

Although I already know that much anger will be generated by an almost overreacted and (although I’m afraid to say) aggressive/accusing decision by the team I’d like everyone to keep their responses constructive and civilised, but I and I’m sure the team wants to know your real thoughts and opinion. I only hope they dont hold this against anyone here as it benefits everyone.

I think its a bad idea because the WvW subthread is a communal tool used to bring server communities together against a common foe. The thread has developed wildly past Arena nets initial expectations, clearly as it has created it own form of micro politics between fundamental posting elements which carry enough weight to change ingame events significantly.

I am greatly displeased at the censorship of the forums as although I do not believe it is my right to demand a place on these forums, I believe it is common courtesy of the hosting company to provide its community and paying customers an effective means to communicate out of game. To which these forums and the subthread related to WvW currently are. Hence by removing such a facility we are being provided with a sub par service, to which has led me to great disgruntlement at both the administration and development of the WvW subforum.

Why’re you hurting our playful banter and communal bonds? I would much enjoy Devon Carters take on this decision and how he thinks it will effect the WvW community, and also why he thinks it has come to this action.

If you cannot afford the resources to moderate your forums, then employ player base assistant moderation for the sub-section. Or even simply cease all moderation and fit the subthread with a +18 rating and waver. Instead of deleting them.

What can be done about this heavy handedness?
