I'm missing some wilderness in GW2

I have to agree with OP.
This game is simply beautiful…the art, the graphics…just stunning…
But I just feel ‘’too safe’’ in these zones…
I played GW1 for over six years and I have to say I greatly enjoyed taking a challenge to get to some faaaar ‘’cut-off’’ areas, like Lornar’s Pass and Snake Dance. I also enjoyed running from Lion’s Arch to Ascalon…it felt like a perfect adventure.
I stopped using waypoints in GW2, I also don’t feel like wasting any silver on them…but even without using them, I always have that feeling of safety…friendly NPC’s are nearly at every step…as well as some outposts and smaller ‘’safe places’‘.
I would really like to see some dense forest, I don’t want it over-populated with enemies…just some area where one can enjoy the solitude and serenity of the place…maybe full of some secret areas…jumping puzzles etc…I seriously love how they made that jumping puzzle in Malchor’s Leap and Hidden Garden in Mount Maelstrom.
I sincerely hope they add more ‘’less populated’’ areas, with less waypoints, NPC’s and ‘’outposts".
Heck, even in Brand, Shiverpeaks and Orr I feel ’’safe’’…because I know there’s WP at nearly every step and always NPC’s going about…
I hope ANet takes this into account, because it would make the game even better!
And as suggested, making one area where there’s complete darkness would be amazing! Some dark forest…where you use a torch (flamethrower, fiery sword etc)
This game has a lot of potential, and I think adding a few areas like this would be BRILLIANT!
I have to thank Arena Net for making such a wonderful game and I am sure they’ll make it even more beautiful in the future. Looking forward to see more areas, especially Far Shiverpeaks and Ring of Fire! (With hope they’ll have less WP’s and safe-zones)

I would also add mounts, at least a few types of horses (or Kirin)…I would rather ride through Tyria than pay for WP’s…I only use them when necessary or when I need to quickly TP somewhere…other than that, I just walk through the areas.
I would also like capes, guild halls and more long hairstyles for male characters (especially male humans). I want to look fabulous in every way XD
Also more town clothes and RP stuff…

Story Mode dungeons = solo-able

in Suggestions

I completely agree with this.
Story-mode dungeons should be solo-able.
The last mission with Zhaitan really put me down when I saw that it required 5 players to join…not to mention how hard it is to find a team for story modes now…
I really hope that Arena Net consider this and allow us to be able to solo story mode dungeons…
I personally don’t care about rewards, they can lower them as much as they wish…I want to have an enjoyable experience inside these dungeons, enjoy the story and enjoy with a few friends while doing them.

The new AC...

Blur.3465

I understand that some people want a challenge…but leave this level 35 dungeon the way it was before.
There are other dungeons which can be and are challenging…
I don’t understand…can’t at least one dungeon provide entertainment for lower levels and those who do not want to keep getting wiped over and over again…and for those who have no time to spend hours in it? AC was the only dungeon to which I could dedicate my free time, because it didn’t take ages to complete. It could have stayed the way it was.
And those who simply want a challenge can go do other dungeons, rather than this one…seriously, this is killing a lot of average players and new players who wish to experience the first explo dungeon.

And I could say for those that simply don’t have enough time to run a dungeon path that takes longer than 15 mins they can do DE and World events or any of the Orr Temple Chain events. What does “experiencing” the first explorable dungeon mean? Do you mean an easy farming area? Is that the old AC experience?

I’ve yet to see any argument as to how old AC was fine. Old AC was a simple dungeon that taught nothing. It lacked meaningful mechanics aside from a few dodge-or-die attacks. Other than that you could stand in AoEs and face tank bosses all day.

New AC has meaningful mechanics, but apparently an off-putting difficulty. Maybe instead of crying that they should change it back to your easy mode piggy bank, you could give useful suggestions on how they could make a simple dungeon that still teaches new players how to dodge, kite, avoid AoEs, work as a team, and handle adds properly. These are all things that new AC does that old AC either didn’t do or did poorly.

If I wanted to do that, I would have done it ages ago. I love doing dungeons, in fact I am only missing two paths in Arah for the complete achievement.
I wasn’t running AC for ’’farming’’, I was running it for the fun of it.
And to be honest, Kholer and other bosses DID require you to dodge and use your brain, as well as graveling KD (when they started ’’eating’’ you). As far as I know, even this was hard for some people.
I am not asking the dungeons to be ‘’Oh brain afk mode, just stand there and hit". No. I like when the dungeon makes you think. But I don’t understand how can it be ’’educative’’ and ’’interesting’’ when you end up tossed all over the room by gravelings which now have insane KD and to protect a weakling NPC in same time? Even with stability, it’s fairly, fairly hard…
Well experienced level 35’s might stand a chance here…but new players without a guide just won’t be able to go through this.

And like I’ve said in my previous posts, it would be ideal to add Hard mode to dungeons with better rewards compared to Normal mode. That would satisfy those who crave for challenge and those who are average players.

Blur.3465

Today I’ve decided to give this new AC a try with my guild fellows.
I’ve read different opinions here on forum and I wanted to test this out myself.
To be honest…I never raged so much…
Spider Queen wiped us 2 times…though we went past her and started doing Hodgins part for the scepter. And this is the part which annoyed me greatly. To be honest, I felt like a ball…even with stability on, it doesn’t last too long, its recharge is terribly long and you again end up being tossed all over the room. We failed that a few times…so we decided to change our approach there…taking different professions. Nope…still the same. In guild we all cooperate greatly, have great attitudes and are in great mood…but we just couldn’t help but give up here.
I am an average player…and I am quite busy in real life. When I come to game…I intend to relax…and personally, I enjoyed old AC. It was challenging enough for a level 35 dungeon…sometimes teams don’t succeed if they aren’t well coordinated etc etc…
Now level 35+ don’t stand a chance unless they have hours to waste on this…
This is supposed to be the FIRST dungeon, where you will actually experience that enjoyable taste of challenge inside the dungeons.
If explorable mode was for ‘’elite level 80’s’’ then why was it put as “Explorable level 35”? I understand that some people want ’’challenges’’ and ’’hardcore’’ gameplay. My dear folks…how many dungeons are there? Let’s see…Arah? It can last over 5 hours. Isn’t that challenging enough?
Also there is a difference between challenge and being wiped again and again and paying for armor repairs over and over.
Thing which bugs me is the fact that you can’t play the way you want anymore…and I dislike how everything in this game is turning into gear grind and ’’stats’’.
I have to say that I still love the game, and I have to congratulate Arena Net for making it so wonderful in many other aspects. I enjoy PvE, music, story etc.
Though as a player who doesn’t have much time to play, I am finding myself ’’behind’’ a lot now…and now it seems that new players aren’t so welcome anymore…especially low levels in dungeons.
I personally don’t mind bringing lower levels with us in team…in fact, I always allow guildies to bring their alts to dungeons and level them up…but ‘’one weak link’’ in dungeons now can cause the chain to break…I am not finding it fair towards lower levels at all.
The ideal solution would be Normal and Hard mode. Normal, where rewards are lesser than in Hard mode. Hard mode, for those who want it super hard, but with better rewards.
Also, storymode dungeons should be able for solo play.

AC was also the only dungeon which I could do without spending hours in it.
I know some will say “Go do storymode then”. Why would I do that? I did it already and I am not satisfied with rewards there…and neither do I get tokens.
I repeat again. It is a level 35 dungeon, it should be made for level 35 players…how can they complete this when even level 80’s with great gear fail?
I will probably try doing AC again, but to be honest…I don’t see the point of dungeons where you will end up raging and screaming at other people because they made a mistake or just aren’t good enough…I always avoided dungeons in other games just because of that…I don’t need additional stress…and I can say that I am lucky to lead a guild full of people with great attitudes…

This game definitely needs cloaks! I honestly don’t mind clipping issues, I want my character to look completely awesome! And cloaks give such a feeling when wearing them!
I too would pay any kind of currency if they added them!
Arena Net, please consider adding them!

Character Creation feels unfinished

in Suggestions

Blur.3465

I completely agree with this. It feels unfinished.
As I was playing Beta, I thought the features that were in character creation then would expand and give us a larger choice of customisation.
To be honest…the most complete character customisation is with female Norn. They have such a large variety of faces and hairstyles, not to mention tattoos. It’s as if they put most of their effort there.
I expected more Charr faces, manes, horns, more Sylvari faces and leaf-styles…and I expected male Norn to look more like Vikings (longer beards and hair).
As for male Humans…the face options are totally limited and hairstyles are just meh…out of all hairstyles they put for male Humans, I can only choose one (that is mostly used by NPC humans). I would really like to see more long hairstyles for both male Norn and male Humans…if they could create female hairstyles which were longer than shoulder length, why would it be hard to make the same for males?
Most of the hairstyles we have now are purely modern…why not have some fantasy-like hairstyles too?
Something like this would satisfy me more than enough :

I also understand that clipping might be issue…but I never noticed anything critical with that while I was playing with my female Norn. (Hairstyle with bandana)

Long hair and Elder Dragon suggestions

i think you are right about the elder dragon Zhaitan because he is to small and it would be epic to go on his back and search for his weak spot while fighting minions on his back and also his attacks are pretty lame :/ i tought he would do some kind of special attack but he didn’t. it dissapointed me :/ and im thinking why can’t we fight any other elder dragons? Does someone know?

Agreed. And the reason we can’t fight them now is because they aren’t available at the current release. Though we should expect them in future expansions…even though I thought we would fight them all at first release.

Long hair is a double-edged sword.

It might look cool, but boy does it like to clip with shoulderpads and stuff.

To be honest, I wouldn’t mind if it clipped with armor, weapons or back items. Adding at least one loooong hairstyle for males would make me as happy as a child.

I couldn’t agree more!
Honestly, I expected longer hairstyles to be present in game, even for males. I mean, when I play a game like this I would like to feel more “Fantasy”. Most of Human hairstyles remind me of modern hairstyles people use to have at the moment, not something I’d see fitting for this lore to be honest.
I too would love to see a proper long hairstyle for Human males, I’d gladly pay gems for getting a Kit to change all of my characters’ hairstyles if this feature was added.
About Dragons, I think you’re totally right. The final fight against Zhaitan was quite lame, not giving the feeling to be a hero when you defeat it. Quite the opposite..it feels even slightly cowardly to kill it that way, without “getting your hands dirty”..
In my opinion, fighting against Claw of Jormag or Shatterer gives a better and more epic feeling than fighting Zhaitan.
And I too don’t like the last part of your ‘personal’ story quest to be a dungeon with 5 people needed. I believe everyone of us wants to see her/his own character shown in cinematics, not just the character of the person who entered the instance. This way I don’t feel the hero but just an “assistant” of the “real hero” that should be the person who started the dungeon.
Not to mention that running dungeon with totally unknown people doesn’t feel too fine either. Not for everyone at least. Mostly not the last part of your story quest, but not everyone can say to have 4 friends available/willing to run that story with you.
So I truly hope your suggestions will be taken into account and that they will make sure to change these things in order to make this epic game even better!

I completely agree with you, Pip! Many of the current hairstyles remind me of what modern people have today…I want that ’’fantasy’’ feeling and I want my character to feel epic in every way, also unique. Adding hair length slider would be cool too, so you can adjust your hair length.
As for fight with Zhaitan, it does feel cowardly to kill him that way…it also reminds me of “King Kong”. The fight with Claw of Jormag was certainly way more epic than this…I also like the fact how we down it with cannons (but it’s not killed with cannons, which makes a great difference).
The dungeon with 5 people just takes away that ’’personal’’ part and really makes you look like a sidekick…I honestly hope they consider this and at least give us a choice.
Also making some twists in the story would be cool…this way you know you’ll always succeed in everything you do, even killing the Dragons…why not add some ’’adrenaline’’ where your character ends up wounded, or hardly survives the battle with the Dragon?
And thank you!

Long hair and Elder Dragon suggestions

Blur.3465

Greetings everyone.
I just came up with a few ideas and a few things which I thought would be cool to be added to the game.
I don’t know if there were other suggestions/discussions about this, so I apologise if this was already discussed in some other posts.

1. I play a male Human warrior and I couldn’t help but notice the lack of proper warrior-like hairstyles…Personally, I have a very, very long hair in real life and I like having the characters with long hair as well. At least one option with males with hair over shoulder-length, reaching waist or end of the spine would really be cool and wicked!
I don’t know how difficult that would be for the modellers…but I noticed that female Norn don’t have the clipping problem.
Now that we have these make-over kits, I think it would be a sweet add.
Again, this is my opinion, though I believe that a few of you will agree with me on this.

2. I can’t help but be disappointed with Zhaitan…
I will give a few reasons here:
-The first thing I didn’t like about this was the fact that the fight required 5 players to do it. Finding out about this worsened my mood. I have read some articles where it was stated that the Dragon was to be fought in a dungeon. I found that OK, since I believed other players would not have to tag along, due to it being a “Personal story”. I wish they gave us a choice here at least. I just know that some people are quitting on personal story just because of that and because some can’t even find a party for that anymore. While finding a party for Arah explorable, a person ’’begged’’ me to help him do the story mode.
Said this, moving to another thing which put me a little down…
-The fight inside the dungeon was epic…the champions coming to airship, you killing them, the airship getting destroyed etc…and I got that feeling in stomach, expecting to see Zhaitan every moment…
When he appeared…I don’t know if it is just me, but he seemed ’’small’’…slightly bigger than the champions we fought…I expected his head to be twice the size of the ship…but I don’t know if that is possible…
Anyhow, the fight disappointed me greatly…when Zhaitan was forced to cling to the tower, we just got him with cannons and that’s about it…
I expected that he would pull the ship down with him and that we would finish him off on the ground…but nope…so I kinda got disappointed there and did not really have that ’’epic’’ feeling inside of me…quite the opposite.

Anyhow…since I terribly love dragons and I’ve been watching many dragon-related movies…I couldn’t help but come up with some ideas.
I don’t know how future fights will look like, but I would love if the player could be more responsible for killing the Dragons. Killing them with cannons, technology etc…I don’t know, it just doesn’t work for me…I know it was mentioned that five races have to unite in order to succeed…but still…
And I am also aware that the Ancient Dragons are TOO powerful. One can’t simply damage them with a normal weapon.
Said this, I was thinking about EACH Elder Dragon having a weak spot! I liked the idea of how we weakened Zhaitan during the story (but then again everything you did was mostly Trahearne’s suggestion).
I just pictured a crazy idea of your character jumping from the airship, landing on the Dragon’s head and piercing its eyes (say the eyes are the weak spot of one dragon).
I also believe that many of you know about Smaug, the Dragon from Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” book.
The Dragon’s scales weren’t penetrable by any weapon, yet the Dragon had a soft spot where it was missing a scale. The Bard fired the Black Arrow and it pierced the dragon right through that spot, killing it. (Don’t take me wrong, I’m not saying that this should be copied, but just a suggestion that the Dragons could have such weak spots which would make them easier to kill.)
I am just thinking that maaaaybe adding this would be great…since it would also give you (the player) a lot of credit and make you seem more heroic for sure!

Another suggestion which came to my mind was the sound the Dragons made.
The sound Zhaitan made could hardly be heard due to all the combat noise and he sounded exactly the same like the Champions we fought…adding a more terrifying, louder sound for awe would make it epic, or at least lowering the sound of combat when that happens.

Anyhow…I wrote a book here xD

Thank you kindly and I hope that you might consider some of this.
