I’m slowly losing faith in ANet. All my friends have already left the game (before this patch). I was really hoping for more from this company.
Focus for solo, shield for groups.
We can keep up protection 100% of the time, and have tons of condition removal at our disposal. The options are there, you just haven’t utilized them all.
Quick link, until I have the time to give a more thorough explanation of the build.

I use a mix of the stats from 5 pieces of Aurora (Karma version of Soldiers) gear, and 1 piece Valkyrie (boots).
And no, I do NOT stick with just the GS as my main weapon. In fact, I view the staff as my main weapon. I frequently change the GS out for the Hammer, or a mace/focus(shield). I find little to no use for the torch (jumping puzzles in the dark maybe?) 1h sword, or the scepter. Working on compiling a pretty lengthy guide, but I do not know how long that will take given my schedule. In the meantime, please feel free to continue asking questions.
Holy kittens, I just woke up ( i sleep after work) and have 43 PM’s. Starting to work on a reply right now. Well, as soon as my room mate gets back with the cod and beer. I can at least answer one of the more common questions I saw. I’m Canadian, not French. I speak English as a primary language, like most Canadians. I play on VS with my family, and I use the english forums since it’s usually here that official responses, and better discussion happens.
I regularly use Hammer, GS, Staff, and mace/all off hands. The only thing I do not like much is the 1h sword and scepter.
I run a 0/15/30/20/5 build. Here is a video someone made that caught me in action. I’m the enemy Guardian at around 9 minutes in (not the sylvari) and from 12 minutes to the end of the video pretty much. If it would interest many people, let me know via PM, and I will consider making a guide.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=f6RtnSyz62A
That would be just fine.
Sure thing. I’m at work right now though, and linking things from my phone is beyond my capabilities. Please send me a PM to remind me and I will get on it as soon as possible.
It’s just separated into male and female, I believe. I haven’t seen it on Asura or Charr, but for Sylvari, Norn, and Human, the only difference is gender.
Wizardauz, I have to ask. When you claim an attack value, do you mean power, or are you really going off of your attack value? If so, ignore it. It is nothing more than your power, condition damage, and weapon damage added together.
Well it’s not every day I get to see myself in a video and being talked about. Animus is correct, it is indeed a 0/15/30/20/5 build.
Suggestion: Give Altruistic Healing max targets, increase heal amount
in Guardian

I disagree. It looks like your biggest issue is with how AH and staff 4 synergise rather well with each other. Considering it makes you a sitting duck for 4 seconds, is situational, and involves a grandmaster trait: I’d say it’s just fine as it is. It’s not like we benefit from overhealing, I don’t see what the problem is.
@RenRen: This is disturbing. My real name is Ren and I look just like this. Why are you stalking me o.O
I would just like a to be mildly informed by someone what direction they plan on taking the Guardian in as a profession. I don’t want to invest a 1000 hours into the character I view as my main only to realize a few months down the road that the direction they took it in isn’t something I enjoy playing anymore.
Why don’t we have Profession specific CM’s to keep us as informed as they possibly can, as well as shut down needless rumors?
Ah, i see someone has finally decided to report this. It was fun while it lasted =(
I have had great success at going full melee in all dungeon paths, SPvP, PvE, and WvW. But then, what people would consider successful will differ from person to person. Also, and I hate saying this, because it sounds elitist: Your skill at playing will play a large part in how well you perform.
The build you are looking for is quite possible. There is no one and only, so I’ll give you mine, and you can tweak it from there to fit you.
Before that, i want to make sure you understand there is no Soldier or Magi armor sets in PvE, and thus WvW. You can achieve those stat spreads via runes and seals/crests (upgrade slots), but not on the actual gear.

Sadly, there are no skill calcs that I am aware of yet that allow you to pick the stat spreads on PvE armor/weapons/trinkets, so a lot of this is going to have to be explained in words.
Aim for an armor value of 2850. This reduces damage by a further 25% compared to default value of 2127. When adding Protection boon, they combine for a 50% reduction. Keeping protection up as often as possible while keeping in suite with your playstyle is important.
Also, obtain these minimum stat values. You can go higher in any value you choose if you can get the proper gear.
Power of 2250
Crit chance of 45%
Crit damage of 40%
Health of 16k
This is just a rough guideline though. The Guardian is really good at surviving without needing to spec into a survivable build too heavily.
I’d recommend mixing Knights and Valkyries on armor, pick the stat spread of your weapons based on how you plan to play when wielding them, and pick your trinkets based on what appeals to you. There’s really a lot of flexibility for the Guardians builds.
And I’ve just had something come up in real life I have to handle. I will edit this later to finish it up.
Check this page out, it should steer you in the right direction. http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/zrd0c/complete_level_80_exotic_armor_list_find_the/
You can still do endless retaliation - its just harder (guide?)
in Guardian

Didn’t hurt ret builds at all, even though that was the claimed goal. What it did do, was reduce GS damage overall and ruin some Symbol based builds.
GW1 had PvE and PvP completely separate. This needs to happen in GW2. They are already showing that they are incapable of balancing them both using the same skill sets.
While the OP is exagerating…a lot…it is obvious that PvE is being nerfed for PvP, and is becoming the norm in this game. I was hoping for a better method tbh.
What sever are you on? I’m curious if this Guardian was me, lol. I solo DE champions pretty regularly just to test myself and people keep whispering me about it. Maybe I should stop so we don’t receive any more nerfs.
I’m steering away from retaliation as of now. I don’t know what they have planned for it, but it doesn’t look good. I’d rather get used to a different playstyle at my own pace than be thrust into it with their upcoming changes.
I actually went with the GS’s SoW because it has the longest ‘on the ground’ time out of all symbols. Since I trait them for increased size, longevity, and healing, the goal was to maximize healing potential without being locked into a combo/being forced to take eat damage. The mace and staff are tied with ‘on the ground’ time, but seeing as my goal was to provide support via healing and not swiftness, the mace was a better choice. The hammer was last on my list of choices due to it having the shortest ‘on the ground’ time of all symbols, and required being locked into finishing a chain before gaining the benefit of the symbol.
I’m asking.
Up until now, I have ran a symbol heavy build, in both traits and weapon choices. Specifically, I used Mace/Focus with GS and traited for increased symbol size, duration, and symbols to provide healing.
By doubling the CD on Symbol of Wrath, I feel like this build just doesn’t bring much to the table anymore. It has essentially reduced my effectiveness by half in dungeons.
Why on earth did you feel the need to move the Guardians skills for the GS around? Alter the values all you want, but move the actual skill and it’s corresponding number? Why?
It’s nice to see my suggestion was taken seriously.
Dont think so. That would be a pretty OP stat lineup to be found on gear.
Errr.. Why do you think I am trying to defend myself? I’m not; I’m simply pointing out two things. First, you seem to like near-the-knuckle names. If you’re the wrong side of the knuckle, that isn’t the fault of the people reporting you; that’s down to you. Second, we really really can’t tell you where the knuckle is, how much you can push your luck, or what names might or might not be alright.

Honestly, none of us can. You need to either change your own “naming policy” or talk to Anet. Otherwise, you’re likely to end up blaming someone on this forum for giving you bad advice!

Teach me to edit like you. Please =P
What makes you think there is another way? There is not.
Been saving chest and keys for a while now. Just opened 40 of them.
40 Fine (lvl 80) Transmute stones (come in groups of 5)
5 BLTP Merchant summoning thingy.
4 instant bank access items.
3 Repair canisters.
7 BL salvaging kits (175 uses)
and tons of useful boosters not available in the gem store, such a rejuv for an hour, speed boost for an hour, 5% damage increase for an hour, crit boost for an hour, etc. Not to mention fun transformation items.
I spent no gems on keys. I feel the chests are very rewarding.
So I just joined my first guild. I opened the guild panel, selected the guild, and clicked the “Represent” button on the bottom of the page. Nothing happens. I’m still flagged as not representing the guild, and am unable to utilize the guild chat.
I have found that a specific “build” works rather well in SPvP.
In PvE, and WvW, it does not. I seriously have every single weapon option in my bag, and use every single one of them depending on the situation as a Guardian.
Soloing normal stuff? GS + Mace/Focus.
Trying to get from point A to point B? GS + Staff.
Dynamic Event boss? Staff + Mace/Focus
Jumping puzzles in the dark? Torch
AoE mob swarm event? GS + Sword/Torch
AoE mob swarm defend this NPC event? Hammer + Mace/Shield
There are plenty of other scenarios, especially in dungeons and WvW that call for different choices. Utility/Healing/Elite skills as well. Everything changes. Learning to adapt, and dodging, are the keys to success in this game.
Dodging is the single most important thing in this game. This is important. Master the dodge.
After that, just jump in and play the way that feels “right” to you. It’ll change as you get more experienced. Nothing is set in stone, everything can be changed later if it doesn’t feel like it is working well. Except dodging. That doesn’t change. Seriously, dodge.
Experiment often and frequently. Take advantage of the Mists (PvP lobby) where you are instantly scaled up to 80 with all traits and skills unlocked. They can be reset freely on a whim. It can be accessed as early as level 2.
Dodge.
than talk to the guy recruiting you in comms before you accept an invitation, get to know the guild.
I play Eve Online, a game where we do interviews and background checks on new players.PL is everywhere…….
Interviews, bg checks? I’m playing a game, not going to work. That’s just way too serious of a mentality for a game. And what on earth is a comms? Some program that pulls bg information automatically? I definitely don’t want people being able to know my phone numbers and physical address. Some people take this gaming stuff way too seriously o.O
Title says most of it.
I realize there is scam, spam, etc. But let’s get right down to brass tax and report them for what they are so we can get them out of our gameplay quicker.
Besides, it shatters my immersion.
nuclear bomb that is hard to play, game difficuly is nothing for me in pvp
You will want to go for the thief then. While the warrior has some nice moves that fit into that desired playstyle as well, it is very niche. Try them both out though, see which one you prefer.
@Bobobejumbo
I wouldn’t really call thieves a faceroll profession, they do take a LOT of damage if you get hit with one, and because of that, they require an awful lot of dodging to be good at
fortunately though, thieves get a ton of dodging abilities and crippling skills to help with that but it’s still quite a bit harder than other classes and their high damage skills help them kill quickly, especially if someone is tanking for you
warriors on the other hand, and in my experience, have the defences they need to take quite a bit of damage and because of that, they don’t need to dodge as much, this class is probably your faceroll easy class, although i don’t think it has the same damage output as a thief and for the most part, is melee based
@MultaniGamer
they can both do lots of burst damage, it’s really a question of do you want a hard hitting class that’s easy to play or a NUCLEAR BOMB that’s hard to play
Unload and heartseeker spam are pretty faceroll imo. I personally find that dodging, as all it takes is the push of a button, is rather easy to accomplish. Getting the timing down on when to dodge might be a learning curve for a new player, but I imagine after the first 30 minutes of game play that will be a thing of the past.
To each their own though. I find both professions have a very ridiculous niche they can hug that makes them what i would define as faceroll easy. I don’t expect everyone to agree with that sentiment.
You’ll want to focus on at least TWO primary stats. Three and four are also acceptable. I aim for 5. I like focusing my armor and traits into two stats, and then my accessories into the other two stats. I lean heavy into power/crit/and crit damage. Then I lean less heavily, but still moderately, into healing power and vitality. I’ve been told numerous times in SPvP I’m immortal. Which isn’t true of course. 3v1 is pushing my limits if playing against equally skilled players. But I can go 8v1 against a group of mediocre players and walk out alive.
Important to note, stats should compliment your playstyle. Your skill, not the stats, dictates how well it will work though.
i just follow random people and make new friends lol.
This is how I do it. Tried 3 guilds. Gave them each a two hour chance, not a single person spoke. Guilds are awfully lack luster for the game to be titled Guild Wars >.<
Both are faceroll easy-to-learn professions. I’m not slighting your choices, it’s just common knowledge that they are both beginner friendly. However, if you become able to master them, it’s a whole ’nother ball game.
I would just like to be able to see the original skins used, and dye’s applied. That’s all. Please.
Yeh I get butter exactly 66% of the time ( done some extensive testing on over 2000 bags).
I have over 4000 butter sitting in my bank, not counting the stack full in the collections tab. It’s slightly annoying.
