Zetta, I am not going to openly agree or disagree with you on this. I would like to point out that you dueling as a Mesmer will reflect the knowledge you have gained from your many other classes. This would result in a byproduct of you knowing your opponents abilities, and what skills that opponent would have trouble dealing with.
As a general rule, people who play/have played many classes tend to be much better at picking up a class and stomping other people.
I know Chaos Storm is probably one of the most horrifying AoEs for more folks (ask around) Mesmers are considered very fierce pvp opponents in WvWvW. Not so much solo though.
Are you kidding? A mesmer is a monster “solo”. Its the worst nightmare beside a backtab/bleed thief that you can face 1v1.
Agreed (although I hate backstab thieves with a passion as a Mesmer). The ability to kite and condition damage your opponent to nothing is remarkable to say the least.
Reflections like feedback? How do you keep reflections up? The mesmer doesn’t have many at all; the personal heal, traited focus and feedback. Doesn’t seem like enough to honestly force a zerg to change their strategy.
Chaos Storm upon yourself.
Do not overlook the fact that The Prestige is also an aoe combo finisher…pretty sweet if used in that fashion.
Good to know its not just me, but it is very annoying. Is this the only skill that will activate even when out of range? I cannot remember if others work this way. I would prefer that nothing happens until you are within range rather than waste abilities because I missed the little red bar.
Most skills will activate even when out of range. That is one of the things I really like about this game.
Range is certainly key. I also suspect that it is finicky when it comes to line of sight. It seems to me (and I am likely wrong about this) that small ground based obstacles sometimes cause the illusion to not spawn.
I know this will sound odd, but Staff/2hd sword is boss in sPvP. With that combo I have trouble with theives (always forget to moa when they unstealth on me), but other then that I feel virutally unkillable, destroy most 1v1, and add alot to the team when the enemy is grouped in mass.

I have teleported into a rock and became stuck exactly 1 time so far. This is an annoyance, but the occurances seem rare enough that I am not overly bothered by this. Underworld…cool!!!
My primary grip about this issue is while in the downed state it sometimes takes too many precious moments to put an enemy (main issue is pvp) on screen to use defensive abilities.
Personally, I am a fan of targeting enemies or neutral, and only targeting creatures on you screen. This adds to the realism factor for me. However, I have had a few incodents (not many) where I targeted a mob farther away on my screen then the one intended.
I can also verify this issue. I encountered it by mistake at 2-3 level.
