Hey guys, I started up my old Let’s (role)Play series again for Living World season 2!

I had stopped making episodes a while ago because my HDD died with quite a few personal story steps recorded on it, and no way to re-record them. But now with the new Journal system, that’ll never happen again! WOOT!

So, my crit damage went down from 80% to 53% after the patch. Was the whole “it’ll go down by about 10%” scrapped, or was I just especially unlucky?

Fairly disappointed with the BP at EBBL north camp right now… I tried 5 or 6 times to get 1v1 going, and every time 3 or more came to gank me instead.

Ehmry insists that our last match was an embarrassment for us, and that we should be utterly ashamed even though a lot of us were on break, however, when some of them are on break this match, suddenly they should have near-zero accountability.

People really have to stop taking the words of the few (read: one ore two people trolling) for the words of an entire server. I, for one, didn’t know BP was on a break last week. Now that I do know, it makes good sense. So yeah, I’d say that in the grand scheme of things neither last week or this week matter. However, placing above you guys last week did matter to us because it meant a 4th place finish – tied with BP – instead of 5th. Who knew the rewards would have been so bad? :P

So this week is our week off due to the intensity of the previous two weeks for a lot of our players (not a week off for everyone mind you, ZoD and Void for example are having fun as usual), and this means the week doesn’t matter that much to us for the most part. Maybe next week will be a different story?

I don’t think I read the whole thread last week, but I’m pretty sure I never saw anyone write that BP was taking the week off… That makes a lot of sense, actually.
Most of what I read was people complaining about a 2v1, but if people were taking time off because you already secured 4th place, it explains a lot.

I think it’s almost kinda convenient on their part that they just declare the first even, decent matchup in weeks their “break week” just in case things go adversely for them. Don’t forget BP and CD are recovering too. It’s not like EB’s the only server that was in leagues, and I’d appreciate it for both BP and CD’s sake that you guys don’t treat it that way :P

It is convenient, but not in the way you’re alluding to. This week being break week was the convenient choice for a lot of us because it’s just the first week where the points don’t matter anymore, so it only makes sense to make it the break week after so much hard work.

I agree it would be a better matchup if we didn’t take a break, but we know we’ll have a bunch of good matchups with you guys in the weeks to come now that we’re not doing seasons. Feel free to take a break too, you’ve all earned it! (Except for maybe that Aeros guy who seems to be saying he and his guild never showed up to fight until this week in particular)

I’d just like to say I’m having a very good time roaming our home BL this weekend. I’ve seen some very good players from both servers on there strutting their stuff.
That Yak’s Bend [MEX] mesmer is pretty great, had a nice duel with him.
A Borlis Pass [vT] asura Necro is a beast – I got wrecked by him
There was another Yak’s Bend mesmer that didn’t have a tag who was good too – I have a tough time against confusion…

And there was this one Thief from [FGM] who I forget what server they were on… Maybe it was last week? THAT GUY WAS GREAT.

It’s pretty funny actually. We were just musing in TS over the possibility that BP was talking to YB after a two sets of simultaneous attacks on our borderlands Hills and Bay by BP and YB respectively.
I think the important thing to learn from WvW is to not take any given moment in time or situation as proof of anything.

All I know is that the only server with anything to lose Season-wise is Ebay at this point. Whether BP comes in 1st, 2nd or 3rd in this matchup, they’re still going to end up in 4th place for the Season. Yaks will likely win this matchup handily, which means they’ve secured 2nd (but even if they placed 2nd here, they’d still be 2nd in the Season). Meanwhile it’s a toss up for EB ending up in 5th or tied for 4th.

From my perspective, it looks like the outcome of this matchup is very much in Yak’s Bend’s hands. This is why as far as I’m concerned (which isn’t a very important viewpoint because I’m basically a casual WvWer) Ebay is probably not going to try to kitten YB off too much this week; also, YB probably realizes that the only reason to focus Ebay instead of BP would be to forcefully make the only server with anything to lose… lose.

I’m guessing this is why it looks like there might be an alliance even when none exists. One server just wants to place 2nd and doesn’t want to do anything to get the big server mad at them, and the other server may understand that attacking the server with nothing to lose to pad their lead is nicer than attacking the one that can lose a lot.

Anyways, that’s just the way it looks to me.

Your story doesn’t make it sound like there was much of an alliance between BP and AR. If you focused AR and BP didn’t come to help then it wasn’t really an alliance. It also sounds like you started in a strong lead before this “alliance” was formed, different scenario from an alliance starting out from the beginning, but maybe i’m miss reading your story?

Yeah, it started from the beginning of the week. Sorry it was unclear, by “near the end” I meant near the end of a 14 week span of time where we fought against each other every week in a row.

EDIT: And yeah, you’d be right in saying it wasn’t a very strong alliance. No alliance between rival servers can really be strong at all. I would say that the biggest achievement of the YB EB informal alliance is that it only got stronger as the week went on – and this only happened because SBI attacking YB instead of us left YB with a comfortable lead and left hope for EB to come 2nd.

I don’t know what exactly we are suppose to learn? We could still take both of you on easily without one of you there to hold the other. There really is nothing to be done, as there is no way any 1 army can stand against 2. All we can do is move on.

A long time ago, during EB’s 14 week run against BP and AR, we (EB) were the bigger server. Near the end of that time period, BP and AR were getting tired of losing (they never lost by that much, really, and once or twice BP won), so they decided to form an alliance for a week as an experiment. EB ended up winning that week anyways, and I’ll tell you how:

What EB did was focus AR, the weaker of the two servers. In doing so, it left us pretty even to, if not slightly behind, Borlis Pass by mid-week. Yes, we were in second just like SBI was in second at mid-week; but there was a couple of very important distinctions between the two situations.
1. We were close to 1st place rather than close to 3rd
2. AR was very low on the scoreboard, and therefore had VERY low morale.

Because of what the score looked like by mid-week, AR started to believe that the alliance wasn’t worthwhile. All it seemed to be doing was allowing BP to win it, meanwhile AR would be ground to dust. So, just like that server, their alliance began to crumble as well. As soon as that started to happen, EB was able to focus more attention on BP and pull out the win by the end of the week.

Anyways, long story short: Winning against a 2v1 is possible, in fact it’s the more likely scenario if your server plays smart and uses morale to their advantage.

I really hope the results of this matchup encourages similar things in future weeks. It could turn WvW into something MUCH more interesting that it currently is.

Hi there! My name is Boottspurr, and I don’t post in the forums very often but I’d just like to say a little something to everyone here in this matchup thread.

First off, the above sentiment is something that I can’t disagree with more. When ArenaNet set up WvW, they set it up as a match-up between 3 servers. If they wanted it to be a completely direct mano-à-mano fight, it would have been 2 servers pitted against each other every week, not 3. If they wanted it to be a FAIR fight between 3 servers, they would have somehow set it up so that each server has exactly the same amount of people playing at any given time. Instead, what we have is, more often than not, a fight between 3 servers with a fairly different level competitiveness between one another.

So, what does this mean? Does this mean that ArenaNet fully intended for each server to be an island and fight in such a way so that each contest is Pre-determined even before we step on the field? Why even show up in that case, what would be the point of fighting besides just having a few good fights – which could easily be had with some other game-type. I say NO. I say this is EXACTLY what ArenaNet intended when they set up WvW with 3 servers.

Now I’m going to try to explain why I think how this matchup went down makes a case for WvW Seasons to continue. First, a little background information:

I don’t speak for my entire server, but as an Ehmry Bay player since Beta, I’m not overly fond of Borlis Pass in WvW. We have history. I mean it’s not like I hate those guys, but if we can avoid placing below them in Season 1, we’re going to do whatever we can to make that happen. Currently we’re tied for 4th with them, but they’re going to win this week – so unless we expect to come in FIRST next week (which we don’t), we REALLY need to avoid placing third this week to have a chance of tying them.
Yak’s Bend is currently a few points behind SBI for second. They, obviously, want to come in second rather than 3rd. This means that they were going to have to win this week if they wanted a chance to even tie SBI for 2nd, but last time they faced them they lost. Something had to change.
Coming into the week, I believe one or two guilds on YB were talking to one on EB and brought up the idea of helping each other out. Nothing was decided, and come Reset night the idea was thrown out with the responsible party from YB coming to the Ehmry forum and letting them know there was going to be no formal pact – every server for themself – with the caviat that “We will be focusing SBI, however. You guys are savvy enough to work out how to make the most of that situation.” And that we did.

So during the week while YB focused SBI, Ehmry played their part – keeping our Home BL locked down as best we could and taking what we could get from SBI, while also taking just enough from YB without kitten ing them off. ONLY in the last couple of days has there been some serious collab between YB and EB, and ONLY because we’re soooo cloooose to 2nd. So why are they helping us get the 2nd rather than just being happy with their win? Because of next week.

SBI is against FA and DB next week, so that will be an interesting matchup. SBI will probably come in second, but anything can happen and might come in 1st (if they play it smart…). YB’s matchup is with EB and BP – THAT is where things get interesting. In order to secure their 2nd place finish for the Season, YB will likely have to place 1st. The best way to ensure this is the give EB a reason to try and beat BP rather than YB. Since EB now has a hope of tying BP, they’ve given us a reason to attack BP instead of YB.
So there’s the logic behind it all. It’s pretty straightforward. It’s not underhanded, it’s not deceitful, it’s just WvW. And SEASONS is what made this all possible. I really really like it.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: SBI should IN NO WAY feel humiliated about coming in 3rd this week. They’re just a victim of these circumstances. They have a right to feel like the 2v1 is unfair, but at the same time they also have a right to do the same thing to FA next week. Besides that, THEY could have been the ones to have an informal alliance with us this week, but I’m pretty sure they didn’t think this outcome was possible.

TL;DR: There is a 2v1 going on, it’s super tactical and what I think WvW is supposed to be all about. SBI shouldn’t feel bad about what happened, they’re just a victim of the Season.

About half the time I hit with Churning Earth, the damage floaters don’t show up – and half of THOSE times, it seems like no damage gets done. (this is when using Arcane Power, more often than not).

Also, when I try to press Arcane Power around the same time I cast Phoenix, sometimes my Phoenix goes on it’s full cooldown but doesn’t actually cast.

I don’t want to give too many details, because this is a big problem and could be a huge exploit in the wrong hands.
While simply running around one of the borderlands maps, I used a teleportation skill to go faster and suddenly I was under the map, swimming. At first, I thought it was awesome that I could see everybody running above me and killing each other on the map, but after a little exploration and a quick test I ended up breaking back into the map in an enemy keep on the first try.

I reported it twice and got a couple of friends to do the same. It’s been about a week now, and I know it’s not easy to go through all the bug reports and correct the important ones, but I REALLY think this one needs to get done fast. It’s completely reproducible every time, and it’s only a matter of time before someone else stumbles upon it like I did.

If a dev or anet employee sees this, please contact me in-game and I’ll give all the details (or just try to find my bug report, where I explained in detail with a screenshot).

I’ve only got alts left to fight with in my Draft-Building series with WP, so I really need to train them up if I stand any chance of winning…

I have a feeling… Is it possible the Uncatagorized Fractal is what’s currently floating high above the Thaumanova Reactor after the explosion? Could it have been part of the Thaumanova complex, now detached and floating high above the reactor (possibly continuing to rise) due to heavy magics?
