PvP: Ranger pets appear after ranger dies

I’m a ranger

I have reported this before through the in-game support button. Ranger pets appear where they died for about 1 second after their bodies disappear. This is a problem because as a trapper ranger, their pet actually sets off my traps that I lay when the ranger dies, meaning I have to set the traps a second time!

I don’t agree with getting points for capturing structures and not holding them (though giving less points for unupgraded does make sense). If there is no incentive to hold things you will have less fights. Nobody will rush to tier 2 NW tower to defend it, because you are not creating any incentive to hold them. You will end up with the ultimate PvDoor with BG taking TC’s stuff, TC taking JQ’s and JQ taking BG’s.

Samis.1750 was concerned that if we replace PPT with a flat score for capturing structures, then there would be no incentive to hold them. The incentive would be points for defending. But also, how about making it so a world LOSES THE POINTS when it loses control of a structure? The world loses exactly the same amount of points it made when it captured the structure.

Also adding this: every completed upgrade gives warscore points to that world.

I’m so glad that this discussion is finally taking place, however I am a little concerned about the idea of splitting the day into chunks with a server being able to “win” a chunk of the day. You can never really predict when certain servers will be active and it just seems like there could be plenty of problems with such a system.

I’m wondering what the result would be if we simply went with this:

1. You get points for taking an objective (more points if it’s upgraded)
2. You get points for defending an objective (less points if it’s upgraded)
3. You DO NOT get points for holding an objective
4. You get points for upgrading an objective

This would result in a servers points only going up when they have people playing and nobody can earn a massive amount of points for passively owning something.

This system would only require a rebalance of the point system. I’m sure Anet could monitor a few server matchups and come up with something.

Thoughts?

Tryxtr.6295, I agree with all those ideas except getting less points for defending a structure because of its upgrades.

I think scoring needs to get rid of ppt. Make capture and defend just gain flat points, but also get rid of defend events for someone beating on a wall, the only defend event that would count is the capping circle with the vet/champ/lord.

I read some good ideas in other posts on the issue about having a scaling factor based on the number of people in wvw at any given time. In a match if server A, B and C all have 50 people playing, there’s no scaling. If server A and B both have 50 people, but server C has 20, then their (server C) captures and kills count for “more” each cap or spike.

Just throwing numbers out there:

Player kill: 25 points
Player stomp: 50 points
Camp capture: 1000 points
Camp defend: 1500 points
Tower capture: 5000 points
Tower defend: 7000 points
Keep capture: 10k points
Keep defend: 15k points
Garrison capture: 25k points
Garrison defend: 30k points
SMC capture: 35k points
SMC defend: 40k points

This would encourage people to fight and take things, and if there’s no tick to wait for, it can’t be abused by someone telling their zerg to log out before it ticks. If you have a team fighting uphill against a force who runs double your number, you get rewarded for what you’re capable of taking by it scaling to be worth more and catch up your score. Also to avoid abuse, maybe the population across all borderlands and ebg are summed up. So the server can’t just send a havok group to one borderland and get a ridiculous amount of points for being outnumbered when all servers have the same number of players just in differing maps. I think if the scores were closer more people would play, more capture and defenses would happen, and more people would fight, not just zerg v zerg, but small roaming groups and soloers, too.

I think xvalkyrie.6742 had the best suggestion when they suggested getting rid of PPT (points per tick). I play on Sea of Sorrows, which consistently gets ranked as number 4 among all servers. When we are put against the lower servers Maguuma and Fort Aspenwood, we always end up overpowering them right away—which gets boring for us and frustrating for them. When we are put against the higher servers, such as Blackgate and Jade Quarry, we become the server with the lowest score and then we consistently struggle just to hold our keep. Points per tick just locks in this dynamic right away from the start of the match and means that after only a day or two, the server with the highest score of the 3 will stay that way, the server with the second highest score will also stay at number 2, and the lowest-scoring server of the three again stays the lowest.

Having a flat score for capturing structures is the best solution. It means the dynamic between the three servers in a match can always change. There should be no points at all just for holding a structure.

As for score scaling based on server population, I’m critical of the idea. It feels like too much of an accommodation and like it would make things too easy for the less-populated servers.

Some other ideas:

You could make it so that when a player kills another player, everyone in their server who is present on the map gains a small amount of world experience or gains a small reward. This surely would help less-populated servers, giving more meaning to individual kills for the whole server. It would also put more importance on open-field skills by individual players.

If you’re concerned about people gaining too much from kills using arrow carts and other siege weapons, you could lower their rewards for kills while using the siege weapons or being inside a structure.

You could also have rewards for cumulative kills. For example: When your server kills 50 people, everyone in your server on the map gets a reward. Then when your server kills 100 people, everyone gets a higher reward.

You could make it so when your server captures 5 structures within an allotted time, everyone gets a reward. When your server kills 30 guards, everyone gets a reward. Et cetera.

Adding some more ideas:

People should get rewarded a small amount just for obtaining an upgrade, as upgrades require time and effort monitoring a structure.

I was running through my world’s borderland today, fell off a cliff, and noticed that in addition to my Signet of the Wild healing me right after, there were healing effects listed as Pet Species Buff. I had either an owl or a snow leopard at the time. Both caused this effect after I fell off the cliff, even though neither have any known healing skills. Anyone know what this is?

When joining a party in Dry Top through Prosperity Waypoint, getting stuck at the waypoint with the screen shaking.

-Server: Jade Quarry
-Map/location: Dry Top
-Character info(level, race, profession): 80, Sylvari Ranger
-How to reproduce issue: Join a party in Dry Top from another map by going to Prosperity Waypoint after joining the Party through the LFG tool.

I thought I saw a post on this in here before but I couldn’t find it. This was the second or third time I got stuck in the waypoint this way.

Sand Giant in Dry Top Uplands

I’m the OP. I find the Giant fun to battle when in a large group, because it’s a group fight and very challenging. I just don’t think the rewards are worth it, as well as the time consumed. As others said, fighting the Giant takes up just about the whole Sandstorm. And when you spend the whole time against him, lose, and win no coins at all—that is quite a disappointment.

The Sand Giant was already almost impossible to defeat. Now it seems they just added a mechanic called Trapped where you get trapped under the sand and have to keep pressing Struggle to get out. My map had been fighting him for like 17 minutes and people kept getting Trapped, so we lost with him at about 10% health as he disappeared. I’m wondering why Arena Net decided to make this event impossible so hard.

I also just reported the contradiction in Entangle’s new text with this trait. Entangle says it only removes one condition, contradicting the trait’s text. Also, using Entangle doesn’t seem to trigger Fury as it should, being a Survival skill.

I already am confused with the trait changes.

I used to have the Nature Magic line with selections of Nature’s Protection, Evasive Purity, and Nature’s Bounty. Now I can’t add the last one to that combo.

So instead I go and buy the new Grandmaster trait Survival of the Fittest: Remove conditions and gain fury when using a Survival skill.

But why does it say when using a Survival Skill. This is in the Nature Magic traitline and Wilderness Survival is a totally different trait line! Anyway, traits aren’t skills—their effects are applied passively.

I am confused and disappointed. Anyone get this?

Sigil of Hydromancy not activating

Calanthe.3857

Hello. I have reported this bug already a few times through the in-game support buttons, but I haven’t seen it fixed yet.

In one of my Ranger builds, I have one weapon set of Sword and Warhorn and the other set is Axe and Torch. The Warhorn has Superior Sigil of Battle and the Sword has Superior Sigil of Hydromancy. (Both of those are supposed to trigger on weapon swap.)

There are some regions where the Sigil of Hydromancy does not activate when I switch to the Sword and Warhorn weapon set in battle, even though the Warhorn’s Sigil of Battle does activate and grants me stacks of Might. This means I’m not getting the 3-second Chilling and damage to my NPC enemy.

I don’t understand this. The Sigil works in some regions, but I notice that in some cold climate regions it doesn’t activate—most recently Dredgehaunt Cliffs. Is this because Chill isn’t supposed to work in cold regions?

Romance Repetition

“I don’t like social agendas in my entertainment. I just want to be entertained, not proselytized to.”

Funny. Is there any dialogue in the game that talks specifically about gay rights or issues? No. Nobody’s shoving an agenda down your throat. Just because there are some prominent lesbian relationships doesn’t mean the designers are proselytizing. If they were, there would be specific discussion about homosexual versus heterosexual relationships. In reality, the words gay and lesbian are not used and there is no such discussion.

Gay relationships, like other kinds of consensual adult relationships, are just another banal fact of life. When you stop recognizing it as something to be pointed out just because it’s there and you find it so different or being shoved down your throat, then you can truthfully say you’re not a homophobe.

Huh, now if I tell you I feel like that Quaggan romance between heterosexual Peneloopee and Bloomanoo is being shoved down my throat with a political agenda…is that right?

So, now we have had TWO prominent lesbian romances:

1. Caithe and Faolin
2. Marjory and Kasmeer

And no heterosexual romances “in the spotlight,” or other species, or….
I’m not saying they don’t exist. We have the backdrop romance of Logan and the Queen, for instance, and the two cooing quaggans in the refugee camp, together since the Tower of Nightmares.

But none of them have had much spotlight. But now we have had two that seemed to get more spotlight than the rest, both lesbian romances.

To preface my own personal attitude and to hopefully deflect accusations of homophobia, I could’t care LESS what someone’s sexual proclivities are, as long as the people are all consenting adults. I’ve been friends with homosexuals, swingers, BDSMers, the list goes on and on.

But I also know that the mainstream IS heterosexual. And having now TWO lesbian romances back to back in the stories as the closest thing to a spotlight romance does now raise my eyebrow: it feels like it’s a social agenda being pushed.

I don’t like social agendas in my entertainment. I just want to be entertained, not proselytized to.

So why now two of these in a row? If the story writers were just trying to write something “different,” they could have mixed it up. Why not a romance in a different species, or in BETWEEN two species? For example, Braham and Rox!

I’d love to see a quaggan/skritt romance, just because I think it would be hysterical.

I’m just saying, it seems/feels now after two of these prominent that its a social commentary. If not, why two of these back to back? If so, well, please, we don’t need to have a social commentary shoved down our throats. Just entertain us, and if adding in romances, remember who the MAJORITY is, or at least mix it up with other romances, such as the type we would not normally see.

Norn/quaggan? Human Charr? Golem/Asura? :-D

And actually, someone else I saw posted here they felt the lesbian scenes weren’t for a social agenda but for the pandering to the “fanboy” out there, and why didn’t he get to have two men in a romance? His question, not mine, but I did find it an interesting one.

Anyway. I’m just saying. I’m interested in hetero romances, not homosexual ones… or romances that we couldnt see in the real world. Have one lesbian romance if you need it, but please remember that the majority of people ARE hetero, and we would like to have our interests “pandered” to as well.

And it doesn’t mean we are homophobic. We just happen to have our own interests in what we like.

Heck, last time I saw the two quaggans at the refugee camp, the female quaggan, on saying she hated scarlet and wished she would DIE, I thought she sounded borderline ready to transform to that Piranha Hulk state that I thought it would have been cool for her to show up ready to chew on Scarlet some!

(as a side note, I did find it interesting that Marjory appeared not lesbian, but pansexual; she appeared to flirt with anything that moved; I would have found it far more interesting if she DID flirt with just about everything, and thus took more time to get closer to Kasmeer, maybe even have some friction about it in the beginning…. and Scarlet’s crack about dating Caithe in the Aetherblade dungeon was hysterical too! )

And here I’m concerned that the politically correct crowd is going to attack me for this post… but like I said, I don’t care about people’s proclivities in general… after all, I have a “proclivity” that I’m not going to discuss here. I just think that two in a row for a game like this is a bit odd and eyebrow-raising. Next storyline, think we can steer away from a third repetition and give us something a little different?

Immobilize is not a control effect. Control effects are only those conditions which INTERRUPT the target’s action. Immobilize doesn’t stop them from taking an action or casting a spell, it just stops you from moving around. The wiki explains this pretty clearly.
