I don’t understand what the deal is… not really a big fan of the skins from dungeons though I’ll certainly farm them at some point for the stats.

They are really just a skin, to farm for the looks.. the stats are the same as any other exotic you could buy for ~2.5g

On Botting and What We’re Doing About It

As the title says, that’s what I have heard. So, if I may ask, why is it that these four bots in the Far Shiverpeaks server have been here for the last three weeks? They are named Sharriett, Remyl, Marief, andWendelljj. They are ALWAYS right outside the gate at Penitent Waypoint, and have literally been reported hundreds of times. The “Anti-Botting” code is irrelevant because after 30 minutes, they receive loot again. If botting is so important, why has nothing been done? Where are the GM’s? I could see if a bot was banned, and another was recreated, but these 4 are the SAME toons that have been here the whole time! I would like an ANet response please.

This, they have now been joined by a Silvari so now there’s 5 of them.. I usually report them every time I’m there, but as you say, they must have been reported hundreds of times already so I feel it doesn’t do much good. When you see no results at all, you just feel like giving up on reporting the bots..

And, yes.. the DR code is totally irrelevant for a bot that runs 24/7 for weeks on end, it only hurts legit players.

Any close/competitive matches?

in WvW

Posted by: Corew.8932

Corew.8932

Havent seen a close matchup since BWE3. Since then its all been one server steamrolling the other two, almost always due to nightcapping.

And shortly after that, usually when the other servers are about 100k points behind (so, day 3 or 4) they simply say “kitten it” and stop playing till the next matchup.

Going two week match-ups now would kill WvW. No one is going to actually try for two weeks when after just 1 night its clear that theyll just get pulverized.
Atm, Desolation a high/full pop server, has no queues for WvW and outmanned on all maps.
Augery Rock is atleast trying to put up a fight, but for me this match up is dead and i can do nothing but wait for the next round. And if those rounds are to far between, i dont see myself caring at all anymore. Play a few days, then wait 1.5 week to play again for a few days. No thanks.

Id much rather see 1 day rotations. Atleast then people try, theyll still lose to the nightcappers, but its not as demoralizing as staring at a 150k point disadvantage + 3 orbs + completely capped maps + reinforced walls everywhere.
Sure no one would bother to upgrade anything anymore, but they dont bother now either because at night it gets capped and the upgrades are lost anyway.

This, I agree with almost everything you said. I’ve noticed that queues are more and more unusual as time passes with all of this going on… (and shorter)

Camera and FOV (field of view)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Corew.8932

Corew.8932

I’ve seen a lot of topics on this both here and externally so let me try and address it. The current FOV is going to stay because increasing it, while having some benefits for some players, has too many drawbacks.

1) performance suffers greatly because of how things are built and view distances

2) art suffers because of texture tiling, LOD problems and just general stretching from the fisheye effect.

3) gameplay suffers because positional awareness becomes less necessary in a game where combat is greatly designed around positioning.

There is a a serious camera problem, however, which is making some players nauseous. We believe a large number of these cases are not FOV related but rather due to bugs in camera smoothing. Because of this we are expediting a quick fix to this issue that is currently in testing and should see the light of day in the next build we do.

Jon

Thanks for the answer, but I can still get a (much) wider FoV by playing on 3 monitors.. guess that is the only solution for those who gets sick then. I’m not one of them but I think the current FoV doesn’t make the game justice AND it is kindof annoying, it’s like playing with tunnelvision.

Fozzik.1742:

Basically, if in a few weeks the bugs are worked out and you are still smashing headlong into the DR every time you play, it’s a pretty good bet that your play style is not one that ArenaNet considers “normal”. You’ll need to recognize that the DR system was, at least partially, intentionally designed to slow YOU down (again, only those players who are playing outside of what ArenaNet considers normal play). Take it or leave it, that’s likely the situation.

Yeah, at that point I will simply bin the game as that is something I won’t accept in an “MMO”

Please get back to us on this, it seems silly given that you can get a wider FoV if you have multiple monitors, or if you set the game to windowed mode, and shrink the window vertically a little.

This, it makes no sense at all.. it can’t be for PvP reasons either since I get an insane FoV if running in 5760×1080..

Frankly, I don’t even know what the LFG thing does. I used it, and my status in the guild roster changed to a blue square indicating I was looking for a group. Except I was actually looking for one more person to fill a group, and the only other person online in my guild was already in the group with me.

I think it also puts a little blue icon, thingie.. something, over your head but afaik that’s it?

Nobody is saying that you cant. Just the way that triggers the DR, which seems to be mostly cheesing through events is not the way to do so. Agian, not talking about bugs. That seems to be the crux of the issue. You have found a way that is way too easy to be true and the games mechanics reflect that. Mechanics clamp down on you. You get angry at said mechanics. Not much of a fallacy here.

Yes, clearly we are all not playing as intended, cheesing our way through the game finding the loopholes.. or, it’s simply not working as intended OR Anet simply wants to gate us for whatever reasons. I reserve the right to complain until I get some official word on what the deal is.

I am confused as to why people seem to think that there is only one (or only a few) real proper ways to play an MMORPG.

I play for fun. Some people enjoy a sense of accomplishment. If I want to get 100% completion in dungeons, world exploration, then that’s the mountain I choose to climb – but that doesn’t mean that, if I dislike many aspects of a game but find one much more enjoyable than the others, it’s somehow “incorrect” for me to focus on it.

Why should the preference of other players dictate my own preferences?

So while taking into consideration how to correctly balance the game pace, economy, prestige (et al.) for players, attempting to dictate exactly how one is “supposed” to play is a little nonsensical.

Since, you know… game. Fun and stuff.

This, I really dislike people trying to dictate how I should play “as intended” because how I choose to play is not how they play and therefore it’s wrong. They also have remarkable insight into Anets intentions.

Margoth

When I hit the DR for the first time I was in no way farming dynamic events. In fact I was exploring the map of Blazeridge Steppes, getting all the POI, Vistas and such. All I did was do each event once when I was nearby.

What I don’t understand with the system is how are players supposed to use DE’s to level to 80? This feels a bit like a penalty to level, let alone gain karma etc.

I’ve leveled to 80, played more than 200 hours, gotten 100% on more than half the zones in the game, along with discovering every nook and cranny, doing every event more than once, and doing all the puzzles. I even talk to most of the NPCs. I have around 10 gold, several exotics including a level 80 exotic weapon, about 60k karma, and I’ve horded a massive amount of crafting materials (overflowed my collections tab with multiple items).

Never, at any point in all of that, have I been affected at all by the DR system. Including my time in the Orr zones over the last week…repeating events and exploring. How do you explain that? What I see happening on these boards…people getting worked up like crazy over hyperbole and a few unsubstantiated anecdotes and screenshots with no context, and nobody making any attempt to provide real proof, makes me very skeptical about the whole thing.

Also, like I mentioned above, I see the DR system as being a very positive and necessary thing for the game. I don’t think it is the evil beast that people are trying to make it out to be, and I don’t think it affects players unless 1) there’s a bug, or 2) they are playing clearly outside what the developers intended.

I have 50 mystic clovers, 100% world map complete, a majority of my 250 stacks of T6 mats, my gift of energy, gift of color (minus arah tokens), my fully decked out exotic gears, and a nice set of TA dungeon gear. I haven’t hit the Karma DR whilst gathering any of that prior to the patch a few days ago. Loot DR? Sure, because you hit it in Orr if you can do anything effectively or decide to participate in chain events. The system is punishing to legitimate play, there’s nothing weird about these scenarios. Unless they seriously expect us to play with major breaks in between of a given hour.

The burden of proof lays on the person who makes the claim (Anti-DR folks) – I provided some proof with some shoddy screenshots as I just took them as a wow, look at this. However, with some approach to detail here, we can probably gather more reliable details on what causes it, why it happens, etc. Once we have that solid data, it can become a discussion of if it appropriate or not. I’m leaning towards not though, just because it is currently affecting legitimate players.

The fact that this game has only been live for five weeks, and you are already more than 50% to a legendary item proves that ArenaNet’s anti-farming system is not strict enough. Legendary weapons should be the accomplishment of a GAMETIME, not something you crank out in two months.

So once you get your legendary weapon, what do you plan on doing? Your only focus in the game has been farming, so what will you do when the farming is complete? Are you just not going to have any more fun, and quit playing?

This right here is the mindset that ANET is trying to defeat. Fun comes before farming, and if the only fun you get in MMOs is earning that new item with that different-color name – then you’re playing the wrong game.

You realize that all you are getting for all this effort and all this crying is a few more stat-points, and an item-model that will tell everyone in WvWvW to kill you first.

Meanwhile there are people like me:

  • Still haven’t run every wing of each dungeon.
  • 0% towards any legendary weapon.
  • Only have one piece of karma exotic.

BUT…

  • having a blast.

Please stop trying to make a job out of our video game, just because you don’t know anything but work.

Even if you had a valid point that’s not the way to go about it, then you lower droprates/gain where appropriate, you don’t gate players.. that only leads to frustration (as we clearly are seeing).

I’d like them to take the exclusive things out of the chests (perma portable trading post, bank etc) because this kind of gambling feels very incideous to me. Looking at the huge advantage such items offer (being able to constantly update your TP bids anywhere in the game as soon as you have a moment’s break (waiting for the second part of a chain event, waiting for a group member to get back from AFK etc) is a huge deal. The merchant is similair. I saw a terrible thread on reddit which had a few people spend over a couple hundred dollars trying for these items to no luck. That kind of thing is what these chests do when you put too valuable items in them. Any item like that should have been sold from the store or a rare way to obtain it in game.

I would hate to see these chests become any more valuable than they are (or ever were). Their original contents were pretty harlmess, either temporary cosmetic fluff or boosters, most of which could be bought outright. I never want to see any more valuable items added to them.

Leave them as they are, or remove some of the permanent items from them. Players should never have to gamble for those kinds of things, it’s exploitative. I don’t mind them being worthless, it’s always a downer to loot them knowing I will never open them, but I’m OK with that now. Knowing there is an incredibly valuable item inside of them I will almost certainly never own because it’s a massive gamble, I’m not OK with that. Don’t add more to them unless it’s tonics or some other garbage which gives no advantages.

It’s not hard to figure why they updated the chests with those items and I’m pretty sure they adjusted the droprate of keys from chests at the same time, downwards.
