FS inviting US and Latin American guilds to conquer the EU top spot (and Eurpeans welcome, too...)

But what will Desolations asnwer be when we get americans on FS? Oh no, I guess they ran out of options.

I’m only speaking for myself, but I want a night time challenge. I want to face someone with a 24 hour presence. Twice this week we’ve had full +695, and it was absolutely boring (I’m UK but am usually on late). The only thing to do was get full completion on each map.

If you get Americans on FS then our answer is simple – we’ll see you tonight.

… and as Desolation fought Vizunah the french were some real baddies to fight at night and this without major oversea-presence.

… apart from French-speaking Canadians.

I think it’ll be exciting to see Deso against VS again, as it would be a real 24-hour matchup. Though it’s looking like Deso, FSP and Blacktide in the next round.

Just want to say, huge respect to the FSP players who kept hold of Danelon for over an hour last night despite our onslaughts. You guys used the gates well (and we didn’t, hence it taking an hour!).

If you aren’t willing to even inform us about who hacked and just be mad about it instead, I see no point in discussing it further.

His name was Desolation Invader, thats for shure
And aslo the whole night zerg who wouldn’t mind to use his portals to skip both walls at dreaming bay.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know their name.

Just get a screencap of the Mesmer – that’ll show their race & their armour, and if possible the time it was taken. The devs will have logs of everyone, and they’ll be paying attention to this topic, so if you post as much information as you can then it’ll help them track this person down & we can all get on with our game.

Pets no longer tanking?

It is a Risen thing , and no beast spec will do you nothing

I noticed it on Risen from day 1, but recently it’s happening to me with all mobs.

Even if I send my pet in to aggro the mob first, even if I go down to a low level zone, it still goes straight for me instead. Pets are a Rangers’ main thing, if their aggro has been nerfed then I feel a lot weaker.

WvW and events 1200 range?

> I’m confused as to just how many areas Thief’s excel over rangers apart from getting away?

As a ranger who’s trying out a thief character, I’ll throw in my tuppence-worth.

The main difference so far is conditions. As a ranger, it seems to be largely about power – the only way I can stack some conditions is sending my pet in to fight, running round the side of my target and stacking bleed with my shortbow. But after just half an hour with my thief it’s obvious I can stack without thinking about it, and I’m really excited about trying out some condition-boosting gear rather than power all the time.

The second thing is melee. The main thing about rangers is their pets – send in your pet bear to tank, hit your target from distance, job’s a good ‘un. That’s fine against most mobs, but Risen completely ignore pets and go straight for you. Since I, like most rangers, go longbow/shortbow, there’s hardly any options for melee and you have to try and create distance, forcing you give up a utility space for Lightning Reflexes. I’ve not been on it long, but I’ve really enjoyed my thief getting up-close and personal with my targets, absolutely running rings around them. From a distance or toe-to-toe, I feel confident.

Initiative is a fantastic thing. With my ranger, I have a specific order in which I fire shots – not because it’s effective, but because it’s timed correctly with my cooldowns. If I use Rapid Fire, I then have to use something else afterwards. But with my thief, if I want to Unload my dual pistols three times in succession, I can. It’s a brilliant system and I wish it replaced cooldowns for all classes.

I’ll leave my final word for WvW. I’ve not tried it out with a thief yet, but as I say, for a ranger the big difference is their pet. Human players completely ignore pets so you’ve just completely lost your advantage. It’s tedious having to re-spec traits when entering WvW because beastmastery is useless; whereas I imagine anything useful for a thief in PvE is useful in WvW.

At least two bears called Manbearpig
A Drakehound called ‘Fenton’
Another Drakehound called ‘Rio Furryhound’
‘Ronald de Boar’
And a Carrion Devourer – ‘Carrion Regardless’

And things like bears called ‘Juvenile Red Moa’ gets a few "wat"s.

Question about runes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

CorliCorso.6254

I fancy adding four Major Runes of the Fighter next time I upgrade myself, but I’m a little confused as to how rune bonuses work.

For instance, this one gives you -

1 rune: +15 power
2 runes: +10 toughness
3 runes: +35 power
4 runes: +25 toughness

… for having 4 runes. Does this mean that I’ll be getting +50 power and +35 toughness in total, or will each rune be adding that individually? So 4×50 = +200 and 4×35 = +140 overall.

Thanks

Some way to indicate that you can follow a DE chain

(I may have gotten the events in the wrong order; this is just to illustrate a point)

So I’m in Caledon Forest, me & a dozen others help the little Asuran fellow capture the escaped experiments. I hang around and he gives something to an assistant and I begin an escort DE – except everyone involved in the previous DE has already ran off.

So we go on the escort to the Ruins, a few people join me, we complete the DE and… everyone else runs off. I stick around, and there’s a DE to collect some data cores. Others join in, we do it and… they run off before a DE starts to escort a big Mossheart to a research facility. Along the way some people join in, we get there and, of course, they run off, just before a DE starts where the research facility is attacked by Skritt.

There’s nothing to indicate that there are still parts in the chain to continue. Fine, you can stay around and interact with the NPCs to see if anything’s going on, but there’s been plenty of times when I’ve stuck around after a DE elsewhere to see if something will happen and it doesn’t. I escort a pack bull to a quarry in Kessex Hills, not long after the quarry is attacked by centaurs. Are the two related? If I do the pack bull escort again, will the attack happen again or would I be wasting time sticking around when I could do something else? That’s so incredibly frustrating.

Can we have a little indicator stay above an important NPC to indicate that something is going to happen next? Or perhaps the text in the top corner could say “Forthcoming event: (event name)”, or something. Anything.

+1 more. The tendon in my finger really starts to ache after a while.

I don’t have RSI, but lots of people do, and asking them to use keyboard turning is just punishing them for their disability.

Growing up Ranger (Traits)

Quick question (don’t think it’s worth starting a new thread over)

I’m looking at traits and trying to map out what I’ll go for. It’ll probably be ?/0/30/?/30.

The two ?s are because I’m not sure which trait to choose from between Steady Focus (10% more damage when endurance is full) or Strength of Spirit (5% of Vitality is a bonus to Power). Which one will work out best for dealing harm? I won’t always have full endurance, but with Natural Vigour in the Survival trait line it will regen a lot faster.

I think they can be unique for each pet you have selected in the Pet menu. Once you change which pets are available for you I think it resets their names.

It would be nice if they’d be specific with what’s been fixed, but either way I’d say give it another go later on.

But! i see you mention jumping puzzles, which makes me wonder if the greatsword isn’t a better choice. It gives you a way to fight in melee range, it has great defense with the block in area’s where you can’t dodge (without falling to your death). And while i am not sure about it, but the Leap skill may well help crossing difficult jumps as maybe you be able to fly over them like a bird (this needs confirmation/testing though, as i personally haven’t tried it!)

Tried it on an otherwise impossible jump, didn’t work, just fell. It only has the appearance of flying – you’re still just above the ground.

Constructive criticism on all aspects of the Ranger

Regarding Spearguns, I’ve never found the damage that bad. Start off with 2 from distance, then 3, fire off a couple of more autoattacks and then shoot 4 once they’re down to half health.

Regarding warnings before getting 1-shotted, I think the intention from ANet is they want you to be playing against the environment, not the UI. I like the way you have to watch out for the mob getting ready to launch a heavy attack rather than getting messages about it.

I used to go axe/warhorn but quickly got frustrated with the way the axe would hit nearby targets. I’d go for a fight with a red, then the axe would fly off and hit a yellow mob, giving me extra aggro I didn’t want.

I then went with sword/warhorn which was more fun, but the jump back thing was annoying. Now I just run longbow/shortbow like the guys above – with a bear tanking for me there’s no real need for me to be right next to the enemy. Just get them to fight my pet, run in behind and apply constant bleed.

But sadly no birds. BIRDS.

Long bow / short bow

Longbow comes into its own once you’ve got the Eagle Eye trait – the extra distance makes sniping well worth it.

I have noticed that quite often you can hit targets despite the red bar under the skill showing. You just have to learn to judge the distance yourself because the UI doesn’t quite work it out correctly.
