It is sad that ppl in this thread don’t get the point. Happy satisfied customer spend more money. More money spent = more profit = better for the game.
Does Gw2 support have the right to refuse refunding my purchases? Absolutely! I am however, pointing out that if they provide this service, like LOTRO did, it will make me a happy and satisfied customer, who is more willing to drop money into the game.
So apparently the mods think that this thread embarrass ArenaNet somehow and move it into the account issue section. Well done I guess, good job proving my point

I’ve done it many times, on purpose. I do it when I want the skin only and the character that I want it for is too low level to get to that spot or doesn’t have enough karma. All you have to do then is break the soulbinding, put it in the bank and let your alt pick it up. A lot of people use this soul breaking method to transfer items between characters.
Thanks for the tip! I will probably use this method to buy whisper heavy armor for my warrior who is in the vigil.
I encounter 2 incident that prompt me to contact Gw2’s support recently.
First, when purchasing a super sword skin, I accidentally brought a super greatsword skin. Contact support about switching the skin, but nope, support deny the request. Fine, atleast the skin is account bound and I might use it for one of my alts.
Today I went to purchase a Twilight Arbor medium gloves for my ranger. Because my party is waiting for me in SAB, I am in a rush and brought the light armor gloves instead of medium armor gloves. Contacted support again and again after several hours, support reply that while they like to be able to refund, they cannot do so at this point. So, I am left holding on with light armor gloves that are absolutely useless to me.
Why the heck would you let a medium armor class buy a light armor that is soul bound?
Years ago in another game, LOTRO, I encountered a similar problem. During a festival event I grind enough tokens and silvers to purchase a festival mount. Unfortunately, I purchased a pony, which is only usable by hobbit race, while my character is a human. I was annoyed and contact their support. within 15 mins, a friendly GM contact me and swap the token for me.
Now, thats what I call good support. I was unhappy that their programmer did not do a racial check when purchasing tokens, but the quick fix by their support make the bad experience into a positive one.
After six months of subscription to LOTRO, I was happy enough with my in game experiance that I eventually purchased lifetime membership for 2 accounts. Compare this to Gw2 where aside from launch, I only brought gems with cash once, as a response to culling being fixed in WvW.
Gw2 does not have a subscription, whether I spend cash in it depends heavily on whether I am satisfied with the game or not. The level of support I am receiving however, isn’t making me happy at all.
After the April 26 maintenance did a few instance and was fine (although one in party complains of massive lag). Next day start getting massive lag spikes in fractals and twilight arbor, the 2 instance I run regularly.
Today was worst, lagged randomly in south sun, WvW and spvp instance (Did one spvp w/o lag and randomly lagged in the other 2). Did not try fractals, but after entering TA solo and fighting the vines for a short while, start to get massive lag that sometimes even d/c me.
Server is Henge of Denravi
Log is done while experiencing one of the lag spikes that last minutes in TA.

The problem with Orr is not the number of mobs, but the combination of number of mobs and the stupid amount of cc they have. Taking control away from the player is such bad game design. The enjoyment of playing in Orr is so much lower than the rest of the maps despite the unique landscape.
Does Orr have a great landscape? Yes. Will it be even better without the stupid amount of mobs with cc? Absolutely.
Whatever happen, I just hope people on ET/FC don’t flee to HoD…
Maybe… SF ppl will take this chance to flee to HoD? Good news yes?

I find it strange how so many ppl are complaining that fighting npcs don’t belong in WvW. Do you even play WvW at all? Taking a camp/tower/keep you need to kill the defending npcs. There are npc whose help you can secure on every map. All these are PvE fighting npcs. You can upgrade your towers and keep with more powerful and more numerous npcs bringing more PvE into WvW.
Wake up, fighting npcs is a core part of WvW. I kill more npcs than players in WvW everyday.
On a side note, I love how several Devona’s Rest players are raging abt the break out event. Having trouble dominating all 4 maps with the break out event? You should be happy that the break out event is encouraging other server’s players to come out and fight despite being heavily outnumbered.
Zergs with different names lol
I really look forward to the day when our tier settles and we don’t get the tier above us latest reject, rather then a server that would make for a fair, entertaining fight.
I’d pay to watch ET/SF/HoD
Let me help you. Check out tier 6.
Thank you ArenaNet for the breakout event. I think I can even forgive you for the several months of painful one sided matches as my server falls in the rankings.
The breakout event is great, gives help to the side that is losing badly so that they have hope of getting some towers back and not get too demoralized. It is also good for the dominating side, because having no one to fight is boring, and the break out event encourages the defenders to come out and keep trying.
Don’t blurred frenzy’s CD starts only when the channel ends? Untraited blurred frenzy, 2s channel, 10s CD, total 12s. With trait, 2s channel, 8s CD, total 10s. Best you can get is 20% up time on the invul. I remember I was disappointed when I discover this.
Melee with mesmers is relies on the invul from blurred frenzy. D/D eles have alot of healing, cleanse and boons. Not sure abt dagger necro since I only use staff, but necros have huge health pool, and death shroud for extra hp. Each cloth class need to have some way to compensate for their lower defense when going melee against medium and heavy armor class. I don’t see this as over powered.
Running to SH ALONE. 3 invisible enemies jump me right outside the gate. (There are no swirling animation that indicate they come out from stealth) Only after a few seconds did they render. What are you guys thinking when you implement this? One side can see the other but the other side cannot?
I would like to say nice try ArenaNet, but this is fail please do better next time, but I can’t.

Mesmer is actually the class that took me the longest to make a suitable build out of all the 8 professions. I level from 1-80 feeling really underpowered while trying out various weapons and traits.
But one day while on my engineer, I got my butt kicked in WvW by a glass cannon shatter build mesmer using a greatsword and sword + pistol and I realize that this is the type of build I want. Built my own version of a glass cannon greatsword shatter build and have been using mesmer exclusively in WvW ever since.
Don’t give up and keep experimenting. Mesmer is a very powerful class when built right.
I was traveling alone towards a supply camp and out of thin air an axe was thrown at me. 1 sec later, the ranger who init the attack was then rendered. Obviously, I was rendered on his comp atleast several seconds before me, allowing him to head towards me and start attacking before I even realize that he is there. I wasn’t even in a zerg when this happen.
This kind of unfair advantage due to culling has to stop.
SF, I am so disappointed with your performance this round, especially your offpeak crew. Even ET show more fighting spirit than you guys. When we start taking stuff at offpeak hrs last week, they will follow and push too. This round however, you guys are taking only camps and leave us to face off with BP alone.
What happen to your huge zerg?! D;
Did this path with a pug yesterday. Someone suggested attacking just from range when the shield is down, but quickly discovered that this is too slow. We then run in as a group to attack when the shield is down and then running out. Much faster at this point, with each run taking away ~15% of his hp. Boss is dead in no time.
I am sure the math behind the rating is interesting and all that. Unfortunately however, the model is incorrect and does not work for edge cases. For example, just look at HoD and ET. For many match ups they have been match against very 1 sided fights.
A good model will need to be able to take into account drastic increase/decrease in server WvW strength and adjust accordingly, instead of allowing the server to raise/fall tier by tier, causing uneven match ups.
I usually do not play a game straight from release and prefer to wait several months before trying it out. However, the design philosophy behind GW1 impress me enough that when a friend persuade me to pre-purchase GW2, I agreed.
A gear treadmill however, is fundamentally different from the philosophy in GW1 and I am strongly against it. This game has no subscription, I would only pay more when I think the game deserve it. A gear treadmill, like the new class of gear announced has greatly erode the good will I have build up for this game and will make it much less likely for me to pay in the future.
Human Mesmer, 3hr+. Did watch the youtube video that teaches how to complete it multiple times before trying though.
I am bad at jumping puzzles, but surprisingly, found this one to be quite enjoyable.
There is definitely something wrong with the way condition duration is calculated. My necro has +55% bleed duration. (20% from trait, 10% from major runes, 25% from another set of major runes) However, applying the skill blood is power, a 30s bleed, the result is only a bleed that is 41s, roughly +40% duration.
All the traits and runes are in effect, because if I remove any of them, the condition duration drops even further. I had already reported this weeks ago.
On a side note, I sympathize with your plight, but spamming posts wouldn’t get this bug fix any faster.
Let me start off with an experience I had. I was doing battle of claw island the 5th time with my lv 62 warrior. (did it before with ranger, guardian, mesmer and helping a guildee before) Reach the part where I need to rez Mira. I fought through a group of undead to reach her spot and discover that the undead are respawning all around her. Worst yet, an undead catapult is bombarding me anytime I stop to rez. So whenever I rez, I get knockdown by the risen brutes and bombarded by the catapult, killing the mobs only spawn more. I didn’t die, rez a few seconds, run away to heal and eventually rez her. But I rage. It shouldn’t be this hard.
This is the 5th time I am doing this mission. I am well prepared, I out level the content. I know that those mobs are unlimited respawn, fighting them will only wear me down. I have stun breaker to deal with the knockdowns. I am on my warrior, the class that can take the most damage and I barely made it without dying.
I must first say that I enjoy the story in the personal storyline very much. The battle of claw island in particular is touching. Well done storyline deign team. Many of the fights in personal stories however, are badly designed.
Here is a list of what I think is wrong with the personal story fights in general
1) Mob’s crowd control skills
I am ok with mobs having rowd control skills. In fact I am happy how useful it make stun breakers. HOWEVER, when a HORDE of such mobs come, it is a completely different matter. I get knockdown, I use my stun breaker… and get knockdown again.. and AGAIN before for I get up and then I died. Losing control of your character in a game is not fun. Losing control and dying is especially enraging. There is a reason why many games have diminishing returns on cc, because losing control and then dying is simply zero fun. Open world fights have similar problem too, but at least there are other players to take the heat.
2) Unlimited char respawns as clutch
The fight design team is probably thinking. Well the players have unlimited respawns, doesn’t matter the difficulty. Eventually they will figure it out or wipe out the mobs (assuming that the mobs are not unlimited respawns). Simply put, dying over and over again to do the same thing is no fun.
3) Small confined space, lots of mobs, weak npcs
Many of the fights take place in small confined space that is very difficult to kite mobs. Further more, the npcs are useless as tanks dying very quickly. Some class, mesmer for example, with little AOE ability struggle to kill the mobs fast enough especially when the mobs are coming in waves. Maybe let the npcs deal less damage, but give them more health making them better tanks. On a side note, in several missions the mob resets after being kite for awhile, which is really annoying.
4) Unlimited respawn mobs that give no exp and loot
I know ArenaNet does not want ppl to farm the personal story for exp and loot, but this make the fights so unsatisfying. In battle of claw island, after rezing Mira, I lit the beacon and was looking down at the courtyard. The whole courtyard is full of unlimited respawn undead with knockdown attacks. There is a serious risk of overpulling. Mission objective was to help defend it. But I was thinking.. whats the point? I get nothing from doing this. This is meaningless, just a waste of my time and I risk dying… for NOTHING. Make the mobs drop crap loot, give a faction of their normal exp or something but getting nothing from kills make things so unsatisfying.
I hasn’t finish the full personal story line, but I do have a lv 80 ranger, lv 80 guardian, lv 60+ warrior and mesmer, lv 45+ necro and lv 20+ engineer, thief and elementalist.
I can actually understand some of the difficulties the fight design team is facing. There is a vast difference in the classes. What one class can handle easily can be very difficult on another class. Even for the same class, different builds can have very different level of power. Maybe keep track of the number of times a player/class die in a personal story. Somehow the difficulty of the champion mobs had been very well tuned though. I have no problem fighting them on any class. More need to be done for the hordes of normal mobs however.
I actually come here to rant after the experience at the start of the post. Its heartening to see devs responding to this issue and tuning the difficulty. Except for some personal story fights and the bugs with event and skill pts this game had been great so far. Fixing the personal story fights will make it much better.
