This may as well be a thread about the economy of Ghana for all the devs are reading of it. I’m sure that 4 months later they would have collected all the data on player opinion they needed by now, if they wanted it.

Totally agree with you on this! Lets keep reminding them what we think, even though they are not listening.

You are inviting censorship?

Not at all! First I applaud your post above about moving on. This shows the dev’s that making this decision to rework a perfectly fine trait system, may show lack of support amoungst players.

But WHY post childish flash video’s that may get probably the most important thread on this forum locked??? Keep it on track so the dev’s get good feedback and hopefully this will get straightened out.

Has anyone considered people do it for the player interaction? I’m there to watch the righteous white knights totally get owned. (and I’m normally not like that)

But, after awhile we were running back thru the tunnel after a fail and ran into invincible spiders and no npc’s. After some fun and a few laughs, everyone went their own way. We probably bugged it lol!

This is so annoying, accidentally walk into a puddle that’s over waist height, and then my 25 stacks vanish!

In the heat of a battle got knocked into the water and also lost my stacks. So someone explain why I can swap land weapons and not lose stacks, but can’t swap water?

like i said on facebook, the new feature pack is probably with half the fixes they screwed up, this includes the trait system.

I hope you are right, but sadly this change was done for a reason. Doesn’t look like it had the players in mind. The best we can hope for is, somewhere down the line it effects their bottom line and they correct this HUGE mistake.

The majority of gamers who play mmo’s DO NOT play to see plenty of people, they play to be with their communities.

Guess I’m the minority then! Megaservers have really enhanced the way I play as a solo. Can’t count how many times I have walked into a hornets nest and there is always someone there to help out now.

Then again, I enjoy playing amongst the players more then being part of a community. A.K.A lone wolf with friends!

There is a positive side to all this, I have ALOT more gold now! In it’s current state, making alts are a pain so I’m saving alot by not outfitting them and purchasing gems for other stuff.

There are alot of posts on how to fix this. To be honest, some are very complex, but all are trying to promote exploration. Heck Scarlett’s Minion attacks promoted the most exploration for me.

Mixing old with new is simple and effective. Leave the old and lock the new! Any more question

Doing unlokcs with traits does make sense — if your plan is to base upcoming horizontal progression around adding traits rather than adding more skills.

What would have made more sense, keep it the way it was and lock new traits/skills. This might actually be fun!

So with your bank and knowledge of the game, did you help her in anyway?? Anyway you look at it, this new system is sub par to the old.

Dislike it; stopped making alts. Tedious and anti-fun for me.

And…this is supposed to make it easier for new players to understand the trait system? I never had any trouble understanding the old system, personally. This seems to only make it worse.

And…adds build diversity? It does absolutely the opposite.

^ This!
From what I’m hearing, alot have stopped making alts. Doesn’t this hurt the companies bottom line??

IMO, putting matching stacking sigils on both land and water weapons is consistent —

Anet now auto unequips your land weapon and equips your water when you jump in. So in theory, you should lose all stacks because the weapon that got the stacks is unequip. BUT, by some magical unkown force, if you have the same sigil on your water weap, the stacks are transferred.

What is this magical unkown force that transfers stacks? That why I am confused on how this can be consistent.

Any new class coming?

They did not need to change the system, simply add onto it. They could have easily hit two birds with one stone by adding new traits and skills that would fill the void they had between level 60-to-80. Then they would have opened up new skills that everyone has been wanting and such.

This sounds like a great idea! Going after something after you are set up is fun and challenging. I sure do miss getting a point per level, because it felt like I was getting someplace.

Simply put: this is not a poorly thought out design choice by Anet or NCsoft.

Simply put: this is a very well thought out design choice for one reason – Goldsink!

I sorta disagree. Seems the new trait system slowed the alt assembly line. Wasn’t that a gold sink? Turned alot of newer players off to the game. (few friends moved on after the change) Wasn’t that potential “Buy Gems”? My gut tells me this had something to do with China and we suffer or move on.

They decided to go with something similar to how GW1 is. It’s actually better than how GW1 is as you don’t have to spend a single piece of gold to get the traits.

Skill hunting was optional in GW1. (notice the word SKILL) It was in no way a show stopper like this mess they have. Which is not optional and tied to the core builds. So how is this better?

In the old system getting to place a trait point every level may not have done much as far as character stats but it was a psychological reward for reaching the next level. And picking a new trait every 5 levels synchronized with the crafting levels for armor and equipment giving an extra boost of fun picking out traits and stuff for your new improved character.

Please, Please Arenanet read the above statement carefully! This is what it was all about before April 15 and was so true.

Just got my first character to 80 post trait changes. +1 to all the complaints here. I don’t mind going around the world completing events and things, but I would rather it be for a vanity item (remember the black moa chick from gw1?) than for essential traits for my character.

The black moa in GW1 was fun and exciting! There are so many ways they could get you to explore. Example: Scarlett’s Minions, what a rush!

Seriously, is it just me or characters much weaker now until way past 80? The alt I created after 4/15/14 really didn’t seem playable till way after lvl 80. Yea, something needs to change here and fast!

And I quote: “We want it to be much easier to experiment with and learn new builds as you explore the world of Tyria.”

If this is truly what you want, bring back the old trait system and think of something else!

As part of this approach to making traits more approachable, we’ve pushed back the level at which the different trait tiers unlock for new characters in order to better pace the early game experience and to add more meaningful character progression from levels 30 to 80

I must be missing something here? Wasn’t “traits more approachable” and “meaningful character progression” the old trait system? Serious, does anyone really know why this was changed for the worse???

it wasnt thought out well is what it boils down to. Traits are a personal thing, so the unlocks should have, for most of them, been personal ( a few high end, or special new traits needing teams would be fine)
since this is something every new charachter would need to do, it should have been different for each profession.
Low level traits should have been easier, and more about learning the game for unlocks.

pushing to level 36 made level 10-30 pretty boring.

The reason it is so difficult now before lvl 80, before you at least got those passive traits at lower levels. This would let your character progress naturally thru the higher levels because you had a stat boost. (power, vitality, toughness, ect..)

The way it sits now is to hurry up and get to lvl 80, then start the game. Wonder if the population of EOTM has increased, sure seems like it!

I’m sure they are aware of this issue.

I am starting to believe “The Publisher” made this decision to change the trait system. This may be why the dev’s are so silent or they can’t say anything. Gee! this got changed on april 15 and China release May 15th. One month should be enough time to work the kinks out huh!

I am just 1 player who’s time has really been cut in half because of it. Buy things from the gem store?? Not anymore, would make me feel like I’m actually supporting this horrible new trait system. Why does something silly have to always ruin a GREAT game?

Ascimator’s points are valid in his mind, as I am sure there are a few that actually like this new system. Haven’t meet anybody yet but to many play this game.

Now for the big question! Are we doomed to suffer thru this new trait rework or is A-net going to fix it? If not, I sure hope the developers keep me interested with frequent fresh new content. My alt building days are over as long as this system is in place.

If they made it so you had all the Adept traits unlocked by 36, the Master by 66 and the Grand Master by 80 then it wouldn’t be a problem. The problem is having adept traits being unlocked in 55-65 zone.

This would probably work as long as you didn’t have to do this hunting insanity in undoable places. Having everything unlocked before 80 gave you time to figure things out before getting to the fun stuff!

I am utterly perplexed at how this entire Trait re-vamp was managed. 2 months without an attempt at communication tells me quite clearly that the expiration date for any discussion or change has passed.

This was probably written in stone from the powers to be. How can you communicate on something that can’t be changed. All we can hope for is that this POOR decision quickly negatively effects income. When this happens A-net, don’t sit around a table wondering why, just read this thread and it will become clear. Then you need to have a few words with those responsible for this mess.

I guess the update tomorrow is really the last chance to answer this before other parts of the game start rolling again. There may be some minor changes to the tasks required for some unlocks, but I doubt the real problems will be addressed at all. I guess we’ll see soon enough.

I’m sure a hugh amount of players are waiting for July 1st to see what happens. This will not go away until Anet addresses this issue. From the way players are talking, no more alts, stop gem store purchase, be in their best interest to fix this problem and soon.

Seriously, how about we split this thread into two:
one for useless failtards that 1-80 in eotm, where all their feedback is gathered and aggregated and then thoroughly deleted,
and another one for people actually playing the game, whose feedback then can be used to fine-tune the way the new trait system is implemented.

Leveled 2 characters by dumping passive traits you got early on into toughness and vitality. Ran high level waypoints which was possible because you received these traits as a lower level. The day after they switched to this sub-par system, started a new character. After doing the very long grind to level 30, (playing the game) it was apparent my character was way underpowered.

Decided to run EOTM, which previously I have not yet entered, to level quickly and actually start the game. Hitting level 80 made things much better with this terrible new trait system. Went for a grandmaster trait at this point. After waiting a very long time, followed 5 commanders and a huge zerg, got the trait. Still have no clue went went down. Heck with that, just buy when you can afford.

The word “FAILTARDS” you used is probably pretty harsh when it comes to this not well thought out way of acquiring traits!

While great, did it have to be through traits? Wouldn’t simply pointing to it be easy enough? They could do it like they did in GW1 with the Zaishen quests. It also makes the content worthwhile not just for new characters but maxed as well; an 80 with all the traits is less likely to discover content than if he needed it for his build.

You my friend are a genius! After reading your post, my revised suggestion to this sub-par, show stopping trait system would be…..
1) Revert to old system
2) Keep OPTIONS to go hunt if this is how you want to acquire them.
For exploration…
Zaishen combat, bounties, and missions.

A sigil attached to a weapon provides you a bonus (bloodlust, etc etc) while that weapon is equipped. If you go into the water and an underwater weapon is equipped with the same stacking sigil, the benefit will continue.

So, on my 2 sets of land weapons, 1 has bloodlust and the other set does not. I can swap these sets all day long and the stacks remain. Unless I unequip something. When I jump into the water, am I not swapping weapons like the land weapons. I didn’t go into the hero panel and change anything.

Right now you have to have the same sigil on you water weaps as land weaps. WHY? What aqua magic transfers the stacks from land to water? Then why can’t I go in the hero panel and change land weaps with the same sigil and stacks remain? This is not logical. Please explain!

I do know the best suggestion I’ve heard for dealing with this…make it so there’s a lockbox next to each trait, even if you already have them unlocked on your main. The lockbox determines whether or not you’ve completed the task for the skill. Make it so that as long as you’ve completed the task for that skill, the lock ‘unlocks’, signifying you’ve unlocked the trait that has that requirement ACROSS THE ENTIRE ACCOUNT.

Making the unlocks ’ACCOUNT BOUND" would bring the excitement back to making alts. They then just have to work on the crazy starting at level 30. Yep, sure do miss the 1 point per level. Got you excited every level and made you work harder. Now…..who cares till lvl80 huh!

Seems right now you have 2 options with this BAD trait system.
1) Level very slowly and have a bad build until you are much, much higher in level. You will have a hugh disavantage in the game till much later on.
2) Level as fast as you can then farm gold and skill points. Figure a meta build and just buy what you need.

Compare this to the old system that worked very well. Is this what you dev’s REALLY wanted??? If yes, can you explain why!

As frustrating as it may be, the gold sink does make sense – As we’re in desperate need of more gold sinks. :/

You forget about those who stopped making alts because of this really bad new system.
How much is a character slot?
How much does it cost to outfit an alt?
Will new players want to go thru the pain again to make an alt?

Personally I think most making alts will spend less on them because there is no longer experimentation. Level as fast as you can and get only what you need. Possibly anti-gold sink here.

Easy fix…. REVERT!

This is a tad bit confusing. You can have a bloodlust on main hand and swap land weaps and not loss stack unless you unequip. If you jump in the water and don’t have the same sigil you loss stack.

Completely remove your underwater weapons and you loss stack if you jump in water. So if I am unequipping my land weapons and equipping my UW weaps with same sigil, why would the stack remain??? Doesn’t work that way on land, does it?

Here is a GREAT idea! Put it back the way it was with the option to go hunt if you wish. Anet will make more money because players will once again start making alts. Plus an added gold sink equipping those alts.

Win, Win! Simple huh!
