Have a +1.
Would definitely like to see some reason for your order being chosen other than liking Tybalt/Forgal/Sieran and the armor skins.
This should have nothing to do with traits. Don’t forget about power leveling to just do PvP/WvW and those who enjoy EOTM. Lets face it, before April, we had the perfect trait acquisition system.
Account bound and silver might silence the masses. I doubt it though.
Traits along with utility skills make up a profession’s power and uniqueness. Having 65 traits locked behind tedious tasks is work, not fun.
Because the players suffer with this terrible new trait system, those responsible for making this decision should have to look at this above quote every minute of the day. Just maybe then things will change.
The best feature that could happen since the new traits came out last year would be a revert to the old system while keeping on-the-fly resets and adding in build templates. Even if the previous reset “fee” was built into the UI.
I would value this more than all other content released in that time period, and would immediately begin leveling my alts sitting at level 20 from using an experience scroll.
Just my opinion.
To the Dev’s: This is the best solution I have read since day 1. Love the built in UI fee idea, Brilliant!
I fear a few tweaks on the acquisition parts tho, and that will be it. Sure hope they do the right thing.
The problem, DeceiverX, is that your example hinges on the idea that someone cannot beat a piece of content. I’m sorry, but my dad recently picked up this game and has never dodged once. He clicks his skills with his mouse, slowly (he had multiple strokes last year).
He doesn’t block.
He doesn’t dodge.
He doesn’t do anything reactive. And he has only ever run into issues in a dungeon, and only because he was kicked, party never even remotely wiped.
There is no “stuck on X” in GW2’s PvE. That’s by design, it is extremely easy so as to never exclude someone.
I seem to be missing something here. What does this have to do with the totally messed up trait system??
Would be nice to play GW2 again before April 2013 huh!
Wouldn’t it be great to see a chart of percentages of those completing daily’s before and after patch. Last time I got my daily’s was the day before patch.
Not going to go out my way for these. BUT this just adds towards my attitude since April’s trait mess up. Not Good!
how are you only going to get 0? you not going to take the same amount of time to do them?
Daily and monthly come naturally as I play. I have no clue what they are they just happen. You telling me I need to stop playing the way I want to and go do them?? If yes…then I get 0.
+1 Very nice post!
I didn’t have a clue before reading your post. You are kidding me right? So basically no more daily’s because I play the game naturally the way I want to huh!
First Traits, then NPE, now this! Whats next?
They do have to throw us a bone at some point, to at least let people know that they’re listening and they’re going to change something temporarily to insure they work on a better plan for the trait system.
At the very least, I’d love to see a blog post about them responding to the trait changes, and what their metrics have shown them.
Apparently, simple acknowledgement that the system is borked, is way too much to ask.
I agree someone needs to say something here! This is getting old very quickly. Also, I hear alot of people saying this was a gold sink. For me because I’m not creating alts and outfitting them, I’m getting plenty-O-gold in the bank. Plus all this silence and silly changes has closed my wallet for support of the game.
If they’re working on a solution, it means they are brainstorming alternatives and testing them out. Some of the alternatives they test out they will discover to be flawed and decide not to implement. It’s better to find the flaws in private than to lay it all out for the community to pick apart.
Once again, why was a perfectly awesome trait system changed? Also, why didn’t they do what you mentioned above? I agree “It’s better to find the flaws in private than to lay it all out for the community to pick apart”. Why did they do exactly this???
Do you know what griefing is?
Little confused here! Isn’t EOTM a PVP map? Thought the goal was to wipe the other 2 teams and control the map.
When I was new I was clueless about laying out a build — it took lots of experimenting to get to where it feels comfortable. How are new players suppose to learn when the time/gold cost is so high?
Anyone from Anet care to answer this question? Same with me, as I got the traits unlocked with the old system, did alot of experimenting. Now that was fun! IF I was to make an alt now, Edge of the mist till 80, then buy what I need.
So Far, all I know is, S1 always had me at the edge of my seat and couldn’t wait to see what was going to be thrown at me next. S2, well, just do the story in 20, 30min and move on.
I so miss Scarlett’s minion attacks lol
Just a little feedback for ANet and something they might have not considered when designing the Mordrem bosses. At least in the new bossfights, dead people are everywhere. Now I get it, sometimes you have lagg, sometimes you can’t react in time, whatever. But after the 4th or 5th time today of me being the only one alive at amber (out of ~20 people) I’ve had enough! What’s wrong with all those players?
With so many newer players running around without traits, this is a very valid point. Might be just me, but I see so many dieing easily these days ….. everywhere!
+1 on WP if dead, sure would help.
I thought adding Keysha’s list to the prior one did cover the issue of unlocking all traits on all 5 characters (4 alts) that we had by default.
So here I fixed the challenge to include both lists:
Dev Trait Challenge
- They can’t buy the traits
- They must unlock all of the traits per character
- They must use all five character slots and finish out each one on a different profession ."
- They must do it on a non-dev account.
- They cannot ask their co-workers to fix bugged events, they have to do the bug report system, just like the rest of us.
- They have to remain ‘unknown’ so they get just as much help as an average player for group events/dungeons. This INCLUDES not being in a guild to start, and not letting anyone know who they are, so they deal with the same stuff we all do.
- They have to play exclusively to unlock traits, and get all of the traits unlocked.
This challenge should go out to those who made the decision for this to go live. Hmmm, do those decision makers even know how to play the game? If they really do, hows your decision working out for you?
Something tells me you can’t tell us the REAL truth!
I for one like the new trait system a lot, it’s like in Gw1 where you had to go out in the world and use a signet of capture, but i guess most people today are entitled little idiots who don’t like to work for anything at all.
Also this is insane i know, but i know a way to get a traid withouth doing the event/boss/veteran/whatever.
ok here it comes…..
you can BUY it straight of a trainer! OMG!!!!! so insane!!! whaaaat so you are saying that i can actually just buy them instead of crying like a little kitten ?
Yes that is correct.
Did GW1 SKILL (<- notice the word skill) hunt effect in anyway your build. NO it was optional. Ok buying is fair enough, BUT you are forgetting the brand new spanking players without gold and skill points. Uhm just maybe they used their “SKILL POINTS” for skills huh!
Geee, might be why so many newer players are running around without traits and subpar builds…… I wonder!
With the addition of the NPE (New Player Experience) and the terrible new trait system, make sure you don’t want to play a character before deleting it. You may be very sorry later on!
After reviving my friend a zillion times, I asked about his traits. He said he didn’t have any because he spent the skill points on….uhm SKILLS! Wonder how many players are trying (<- notice the word TRYING) to enjoy the game traitless?? Very sad!
Anet, don’t you think it’s time to fix this?
Oh actually, the request was for any different suggestions that forum members may want to offer.
Different suggestions? Do you mean a different trait system or how to improve the broken one?
Please please someone explain what was wrong with the old system that worked SO well!
Please Anet, tell us you plan on doing something with this. A simple account unlock for all classes upon doing this once would be good enough for all of us, because then we’d all know we only have to do this ONCE.
Just wanted to repost this quote on PAGE 58. Such a simple solution to this trait mess.
Geee wonder who thought this up? Maybe the same people who brought you the new and improved trait system, and the simply wonderful NPE.
Suggestion: custom amount option and unhide the market statistics. PLUS stop doing this and fix the traits.
Suggestion 2: Improve your game so players will actually WANT to give money to support you.
The NPE and new trait system both have made things more confusing. None of it makes sense and nothing has shown that it was worth doing.
I couldn’t agree more! Sure doesn’t make sense for the vast majority of the players. BUT, with the China release, makes sense to Anet. Someday, hopefully, they may see this only hurt their game.
“We want it to be much easier to experiment with and learn new builds as you explore the world of Tyria.”
Please either revise this statement or revert back to the old trait system where as experimenting and learning new builds was possible. With the way the traits are now, this statement is false and SO untrue!
Decided to try a new build, and after spending 4 or 5 gold and a but load of skill points, it didn’t work out. This is much easier HOW???? Please explain!
Signed as well!
Under cutting myself is a pain and simply silly. Why was this removed again???
ANet, on the other hand, will recover NOTHING of the money they’ve invested into this system.
Could be totally wrong here, but because of this trait disaster, you might think they are losing money. Less character slots being bought and what goes along with outfitting these new toons.
This free trial hopefully will open their eyes up a bit. Lets face it, this new system has blown thru the internet as bad, and that can’t be good for the rep of the game.
Sooo… don’t new players need skill points for things like SKILLS and now traits? Let me get this straight! Now after a certain level, you have to back track a map to get all the skill challenges? How is this progression? Sure it’s not a bug??
Do people honestly believe tweeking the new trait system would be better then reverting to the old one? You know, the one that was actually enjoyable! Someday someone will give me the true reason this was changed.
@Lazuli
Fair points, just dont want to make traffic. They got metrics how much logins they got so they know if people go and play.
If people leave, nobody will buy anything from shop :P
Don’t forget, some people have grandfathered characters, this really doesn’t effect them. BUT, they refuse to make new alts under this system.
I don’t know about anyone else, but my gold stash has almost doubled because I’m not making alts. How is this good for the economy? (good for me)
Anyone want to put gold down that no revert happens?
If the China release didn’t happen, I would have taken you up on that bet. This was released to help the newer players, but all it did was add a layer of confusion and frustration. And how is this good for retention?
Here you go.
For me, the extra space there looks exactly like something to put “projected profit” into.
Very nice pictures above, good job! Now this is what we are talking about. Please make sure your design team views these.
How hard, (in five days) would it be to add a very simple math function? Sure would put the icing on this sweet update.
So to summarize here:
- take out all WvW requirements
- take out all map completion requirements
- take out all “you need to do the huge bugged meta-event” requirements
- take out jumping puzzle requirements
- substantially reduce costs for buying traits
- make all traits acquired account bound so as to reduce utter repetitiveness
- make it so that we unlock ANY trait in the specific section (adept, master, grandmaster)
- actually make it EASIER for new players to get traits and to experiment with them; so, the complete opposite of what you all did with the “upgrade”Does this help?? O-o
Interesting way of saying revert lol!
The only reason a lot of us are still here is because we have our high level characters already and really do not need to make alts.
Even if we did want to make a new alt, (which I do) just the thought of the new system is a turn off! Question is, after you fine turn all your grandfathered toons, will we suffer with the new trait system or move on?
I totally understand the desire for a true net display. It is something we did discuss and will continue to talk about as an addition I’m sure.
If you truly understand the desire for a net display, why again is it being discussed and talked about instead of implemented? Sure seems like this should have been #2 on the change list. #1 filters ya! (very nice)
The thing is….. if the whole notion of “the old system” didn’t exist….. nobody would even be complaining.
It did exist and we got to enjoy the seer pleasure of it. You are talking about “What if’s” and this is NOW. There seems to be a backlash and not just because the old system gave you a more progression feeling. It’s apparent something is broken here!
Sorry, because I feel the old trait system was far superior to the new one, I have no suggestions on how to make it better.
Someone back a few pages called this chores. (an unpleasant but necessary task) Not sure about you, but I would rather be out having fun then cleaning gutters and picking up dog stuff out of the yard.
Revert and come up with a separate system to teach newbies. You make instances for LS, why not an instanced trait school for beginners?
Actually not. Generally speaking tutorials are hard to implement, boring for experienced players and overwhelming for new players.=
Can we use this as an argument to make this trait system unlocked account-wide?
I’m all about helping new players, but the current system is tedious and expensive for veterans who make alts. It sort of flies in the face of more alt-friendly systems like the wardrobe and ascended gear.
Wouldn’t account wide be a good way to flag new and old players? Seems to me everyone would be happy. (not so much new players)
Trait Tier level increase. We made this change because despite what the more hardcore players like myself want, most players need to be introduced to systems more slowly so that they don’t get lost. Every time we overwhelm new players that is an opportunity for them to stop playing the game. Every time that happens it becomes harder and harder for new players to develop into longtime players.
Have you ever considered that the new players will follow the lead of the vets, like rush to lvl80? Why? Because your new system is way to slow and you do not learn your builds like the old system taught you.
This is bad! After starting an alt the day you released this, I quickly found out I was underpowered because of the lack of traits. Powered leveled and discovered I didn’t know how to play this toon.
BUT! The first 2 characters with the old system ALWAYS had a feeling of accomplishment as they progressed. No need to power lvl at all because it was FUN learning those builds as I went. Now…..well……
It was simple, not complicated and EVEN, because everybody had access to traits, now newcomers or/and non-hardcore vets with low resources (like myself) have to settle with a few traits for their new characters with no chance of experiencing with builds, like we used to in the beginning.
So please, revert the trait system to what it was and make it even for everybody again.
Very well said!
Sooo..was this an honest move to help new players, or just to be compatible with China? Anet, remember this, alot of us don’t like grinders and why we are here. Gee, might be why no more alts for me huh!
Hope your talks about this trait system are productive. We are waiting!
I miss random Scarlett minion attacks thru out the world. Now those were fun! So far LS1 was more enjoyable for me then LS2.
In GW1 if you formed a party you can kick someone at any time and nobody else would leave the party just because you kicked them. Did you even play GW1? Lol if the party leader leaves a mission or explorable zone, nobody else is kicked from anything.
Plus the next in line is leader whether they like it or not and nobody can join from the outside. Once the party is formed and ready you enter, it’s do or fail.
You can read all about this bug here….
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Stacks-disappear-underwater/first
Levelling up should be “Yay!” not “Sigh, 4 more levels to go before I get an empty slot with no trait to put in it!”
Could you please put the above quote, on those responsible for changing the trait system, desks.
Make sure they can see it every minute of the day!
Gaws you ppl are sooo overreacting over this just because you’re lazy! While I’d rather see traits being only pve event based, not 100% map completion and wvw mix, I’d never change it back to what it was. At least some incentive was made to explore a bit more, and I like it. And for those complicated ones, just buy it! It’s not that kitten expensive.
Saying stuff like worst decision in the game etc is a bit harsh
True for vets but you are forgetting about the player who just got the game. They don’t have a clue what to do or the gold/skill points to do it. The old trait system they at least had a chance. It was a natural progression.
As it sits right now, vets power lvl to 80 and just buy what they need. THEN start the game. Is this right?
Before you meet internally and discuss the new trait system, you might want to ask the playerbase one simple question. “What was wrong with the old system?”
Feature patch 2 is coming out soon. Lets see how this plays out and if anything gets changed.
Someday we will learn the REAL reason this poor decision happened! Still have no idea why you would go from really good to very bad and do nothing about it??
From what I saw, those who succeeded the event, never went on to the next one. My feeling was they just wanted to crash the party! It only got toxic when the trolls came out to play. Then again, there is a bridge right next to the event, go figure huh!
We know this wasn’t done with the (ahem! ORIGINAL) players in mind, to many disapproves of it.
We know this is not a gold sink, less alts and players = less gold being sinked.
We know Sept. has a feature patch coming out! Do the right thing Anet/NCsoft for the sake of the game and your reputation.
What will happen when the new players finally figure this out? Quit, like a few people I recommended this game to. This suggestion will not happen again in the current state!
What I am finding out is…. with my grandfathered characters, I am still experimenting at lvl 80 because I HAVE THE TRAITS!
The one I created after, well I can’t be bothered with buying traits or going through the pain of acquiring.

I would have to vote no. My poor ancient computer just could not handle it lol. Runs surprising well cept for wvw massive zerks.
No thanks !
