Story missions too unfair for solo players

People who answer this type of thread that “Anet can’t keep making the game easier” – I’m not sure that anyone in these threads is asking for the entire game to be easier. What I see, and what I personally wish, is that the STORY bosses were easier. I play GW2 for the story and it boggles my mind that Anet, who goes to the trouble of creating this rich story, is OK with a large percentage of their players never fully experiencing it.

I never said that. I did however say that they had nerfed the story quite a bit already. Both Core and HoT. The problem is, is that just as many find the game to be to easy. I did have problems playing through the story when it first came, however, i changed my build until i felt comfortable playing full DPS again, learned the instance, and the bosses. Yesterday while replaying a story for an achievement i soloed a boss that a year ago when HoT came out i needed a full party of five to just barely be able to defeat.

If his post didn’t answer the point of your post, then the point of your post is buried so deep that I can’t see it. Because I don’t see how his post didn’t address the point of the post.

Oh. My point was that WVW players have to go into PVE, it should also be vice versa. which my post already stated, in his rush to defend himself however he either misread it, or didnt understand what i had put there, and so he felt the need to completely restate what i had written, in a much longer write up.

You can get the GoB without stepping past Spawn on any WvW map…… there are tings two items called Karmic Converter and Ley Energy converter that allow this, like I said above no matter what Players have had the option ever since Achivement chest were ever introduced that PvE players never have to participate in WvW in one form or another.

And where did I ever say WvW players never have to do PvE to get a Legendary? Oh wait I have stated multiple times that they have to put more investment into gamemodes they don’t enjoy to get them. 20+hrs just for the GoE and GoM on top of all the Required Collection items from PvE. Vs 3-4 hrs minimum for GoB 8hrs tops.

I think the point of what i wrote went right over your head in your rush to defend yourself.

Again you can get it without ever participating in WvW or leaving Spawn, the option is available as I outlined multiple times above, if you don’t like it tough, it’s how the game has been for 5 years, I wish GoE still required WvW Map Completion just to watch the salt flow.

It…it hasnt been that way for 5 years though….

the first two GoB i purchased i did it without doing anything in WvW. The first one it was a good thing that i didnt need to do WvW to get it because my server was dead

I dont have a problem requiring WvW to be played to get it at all. Its not like WvW players have to PVE if they want a legendary…Oh…wait…yes yes they do.

Hell, i remember when WVW mapping was required for world completion, that was a chore, and no, it doenst need to go back to that either. Its practically impossible for the server im on to ever take a keep. So thankfully they changed it.

Heyas!

Bosses I found to be hard for solo:

. Caudecuous (probably spelling his name wrong, sorry!)
. The two dogs on the last mission of episode 5 of LWS3
. Mordremonth, of course

Also I play as thief

What equipment do you have on you? if you are running anything that doesnt provide defense you may want to switch over to something like say Soldiers, or Knights, both those provide a mix of offense and defense and may help.

HoT is nothing but group events and...

Dante.1763

HoT for me is the best content in the game. I play all over, in most game modes, but there’s nothing better than going back into HoT maps to experience the great synergy of playing around other people in interesting fights. I’d say if PoF isn’t on about the same level (which I’d guess it’s probably going to be) then many will leave the game. We certainly don’t neeed any more faceroll content – there’s a whole core world of that to play in.

i see PoF being at least similiar to the newer zones added by LW3. Not overly challenging if you know your class etc, but if you want to just run it could get you into trouble.

most interesting and very fasting indeed . so if I got this right mounts bother you a lot and think they should not be in the game at all .

meanwhile you got motion sickness from other things in the game but they tied to mounts .

well maybe they will give you that choice . but I will say it sure would look very funny to see in the game

Oh no, you are correct, i dont want mounts in the game at all, but they ARE here, and i really dont see them being removed. I just want either alternatives to using them, or someway that they get changed so that i dont get sick while using them,

I get motion sick from ONE other thing in this game, even gliding doesnt bother me. xD

so you play on the most lowest settings possible ??? and have you looked at the settings as of late . as their is now new settings where you can even turn down the motion on Mesmer’s and so forth . they even have it now where you can turn off all the sounds from other players . that use weapons like the dreamer . and so forth you do not see or hear these no more. but the player using them can still enjoy them fully

you do know you pay to use way points any how right ????

I am aware. And my point is i shouldnt have to turn the graphics of a game ive played for fives year down, because of one thing they added. Yes ive turned down the setting a little, but i refuse to use them on the lowest setting because it doesnt change anything for me. Have i tried, yes, it did nothing. Again, how mounts are handled needs to not affect anyone who plays this game.

I am also aware. I am saying i would pay to unlock MORE waypoints than are their by default, so that i could avoid having to use mounts, for the above reasons.

just a idea mind you have you tried playing with settings on low ?? so you do not get sick from it ?? as I know they made some good changes as of late for people to turn off or down some things that make them sick or bother them too much while playing . while still letting other players having it their way too and so we all can enjoy the game .

Considering that ive never had motion sickeness in this game for the last 5 years till mounts(aside from that spiny thing), no i havent. Ive turned everything off that i can that would affect that, and it didnt help. The only way they are going to fix that problem is to change mounts, or leave enough WPs in that a player can fully traverse the map, in a timely manner so they arent required.(which they ARE a required thing to use for exploration, but the latter would ruin the entire purpose mounts where added.)

Im also not alone in the mounts cause motion sickness, so im hoping they get changed.
However. this part " still letting other players having it their way too and so we all can enjoy the game " goes both ways. If mounts cause problems which they do, then they need to be changed so that everyone can enjoy the game.

another option is to continue to allow teleportation like the new orrian map. i wouldnt mind paying to unlock “waypoints” if i could

if that does not grab you then look at this way the money you be saving from less wp,s and more mount use will be great

I would rather pay to waypoint, than have to run across the map over and over again for different events, on a mount(which yes, will probably be required to make it to events on time) that makes me sick after a short period of time.

I dont like it honestly, now instead of having to run a short distance to an event, now you have to run a longer distance. granted weve only seen one map, but i fear that most are going to be like it to make mounts something that people use, otherwise they wont make it to events in time.

Dear ANet, re: PoF Spec Unlocks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dante.1763

Dante.1763

Well, the HoT elite specs did cost more than you could have possibly earned in core… and that was after Hero Point cost reduction that was a result of players’ backlash. And the reason was that Anet specifically didn’t want players to start playing especs on the launch day.
So, yeah, if their old reasoning still influences their decisions, expect either the cost to be greater than your 359 HP, or some other locks in place.

That would of course meant that they didn’t learn the lesson then, but it wouldn’t be surprising – Anet can be really stubborn sometimes.

They did yes, but elite specs cost 250 each to unlock currently, thats a large chunk of hero points. theyd have to add 150 to the cost of them to make it so that i had to go do HPs again, which..i mean, im going to anyways because i refuse to have the entire game not mapped on my ranger(which even though i hate just about everything about the new elite spec we got, im still gonna get it).

What difference does it make whether you see anyone using them? That doesn’t make them less meaningful to those of us who do use them (and I use about 1/3 of them regularly).

Besides that, players have a way to get the HoM rewards — play GW1. Unlike LS1 in-game memorabilia, the HoM rewards were specifically promised as a reward (for those dedicating time to GW1). To make them available in any way, shape, or form in GW2 means breaking that. Does it really make sense for ANet to do that because a few people what the skins without playing GW1?

There’s always a reasonable debate about whether a game should have exclusive rewards and what sort of criteria should be used. But once the developers have given their word that a reward is strictly for doing X, I don’t think they should change their mind without an extraordinary reason.

tl;dr LS1 rewards weren’t promised to be exclusive to those present at the time; the HoM rewards were promised for those dedicating time to GW1.

shrug i use mine sometimes, i have all the items. Im just saying, i personally dont see a problem with it. You do and thats fine, i dont expect everyone to agree with me on that.

No, perhaps you don’t understand our line of thought because you don’t see the many HP scattered across HoT as unobtainable but a challange and that may be fun for you to go out in HoT zones and collect all the HP

but for some of us it’s too much.. i for one am disabled/handicapped i have problem with depth perception so for me it’s difficult to get those HP.. this game is not too friendly towards casuals as i’m starting to realize.

Sorry, for the longest time they where unobtainable for me. Dont just assume that because i have everything out there that it was easy for me. i asked for a lot of help, but from the guilds im in, and in map chat, i got more than a few portals to some of the ones that are a pain to get to as well. Thankfully, the GW2 community is very friendly. i like a challenge, but some of them cannot be soloed, or even accomplished with a group of two. HoT was by far the most painful time ive had in playing this game, ever, because of constant bouts of motion sickness while playing in the zones, and from what ive seen of PoF the new maps are going to be less like HoT and a bit more like the core maps, i dont know if all of them are that way, but i believe its highly likely.

GW2 is also one of the most casual games out there on the market, and yes having a disability like that sucks awfully, my mother has arthritis in her wrists and she cant do some of the content in GW2 at all, and some of it she needs a bit of help getting there , though she wont admit it, and at the end of a day of playing her hands kill her.

why no duel?

in PvP

Posted by: Dante.1763

Dante.1763

This^
I honestly do not get it, people are creating scenarios over and over again, that simply do not happen in any other game, I have never seen people run after you to duel, I have seen people ganking in open world, but it simply seems like people are confusing the 2 game modes? I honestly do not know, but it is sometimes really frustrating to respond to a message where as the scenario truly never, or very, very rarely would happen. Like once per year or 3 years.
It is almost literally like box of fun in tequatle, people did not come to tequatle to fight each other with box of fun, it is for fun, when tequatle come, people stop fighting because they came to kill tequatle. The same effect duel have, and even if you are super super unlucky, like half a year stuff of doing tequatle everyday, 2 people might still be fighting even doing teq, but there will still be a lot more afking…..It is quiet frustrating to answer like this, because these arguments are not fair in anyway, it is like I have to explain the situation of reality in other games, even though people are most likely fully aware of how the situation is with dueling.

Anybody who disagrees with you is creating a scenario that never happened, you say this over and over again, doesnt mean you are correct. Im against dueling because ive played games with dueling, and ive seen both the good and the bad that comes with it, i dont like the mindset that players seem to get when they can duel, and yes ive been followed by people, and messaged by people because ive refused a duel. Sure you can report them/block them, but by then the damage is done. Id rather keep that vileness in PVP where it belongs, not in the very friendly PVE environment we have now, where it doesnt.

GW2 is popular because it lacks alot of things that people despise MMOS for, ive stuck with it for that very reason, and one of those reasons is the lack of dueling(for me personally), there are many others, one of them was mounts and i lost a little faith in ANET when they announced they where gonna be adding them.

You saying that people make up scenarios that you personally havent seen, doesnt mean they dont happen, and while you havent done it, alot of the people that request dueling, call people who are against cowards, and thats what im against, just the sheer act of being told no, on a request thread warrants being called a coward to them, its childish at best.

No diversity. A Real idea to fix gw2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dante.1763

Dante.1763

Not much of a argument on anything and obviously you never played OG Guild Wars haha please try again. Dual classes bring diversity and there is no argument against that. Currently anet hasn’t done much to improve the fun of game play. After about a month or so after PoF it will be the standard of everyone copies 1 or 2 builds in each profession. Everything else dies and everyone is the same again.

Trust me if you played gw1 diversity was never ever a issue.

I used…8 builds the entire time i played GW1 (throughout 7 years active, only missed the first year.). i played(mostly) two characters. an ele as my main, and a rit as a secondary, Six of those builds i used on heroes. Eventually i stopped playing my rit, because i realized i could use her build on my ele, and solo farm ecto on her too, and if i wasnt using that build, i was running the Savannah heat spam build. The “diversity” that GW1 allowed through sheer amount of skills wasnt really diverse. Most players doing any kind of content that was either challenging or competitive ran the meta builds, and while you could find alterations of those, it was usually swapping one skill, with a clone skill if you didnt have one of the games.

We do not need dual classes in GW2. Players will find the best builds out there, and use them, and those that dont will get left behind, or not be able to compete, Dual classes would not stop the “Issue” you bring up about PoF at all.

why no duel?

in PvP

Posted by: Dante.1763

Dante.1763

I still honestly do not get that mindset. It is like you are differentiating the game between PvP´ers and PvE´ers. As if PvE’ers never went to wvw or pvp and WvW´ers/pvpers never went to PvE content…which is a weird to position an argument. Even if I would were to accept this as a valid argument as of why dueling should not be in PvE, I would still be able to turn it around and say that PvE is still in those 2 PvP games, and in most if not all cases, killing a PvE mob in WvW or SPvP always count for more than killing a player. So adding a duel, which is considerably small and doesnt reward anything in PvE, should be a given right.

I am not saying this should ever become a valid argument as of why duel should be implemented, I am just presenting an answer if you truly believe that PvE and PvP players are like 2 different worlds where as each get a bit from the devs each time, and that we should take the whole “if you are in pvp you pvp and if in pve, you pve” argument seriously, instead of putting up the argument in a fair way.

I think you are forgetting all the PVErs who repeatedly asked for WVW, to be excluded from map completion because they didn’t want to go there, it was enough people in agreement that ANET eventually did it, so yes in this game there is a large enough separation of the two.

The PoF Hero Point Dilemma

At least on that character, other characters might not have that same surplus. Giving players a reward for map completion like quickly unlocking new specs would be a nice thing to do.

Pre-HoT, you could have gotten a fair chunk of the HoT specs done if you had a complete map. This time around Anet kind of backed themselves into a corner, though. Do they make it harder and make the dedicated player base angry, or do they make it easy and get a collective yawn as many people have it out of the gate.

Hopefully they choose the later and if people want to wait to “earn” it in the crystal desert, they can.

Yeaaaa ive stopped playing my other characters(i have 11 others) so…plus its making it easier to obtain the items i want for that character. I dont see the problem with it though, i mean the dedicated ones usually are the ones who stick around so its just better to make them happy.

Map completion.

I’m hoping that the new specializations are completely unlockable for 250 hero points like the HoT ones were.

Really? if they are…well ill never have to worry about running out of them at least

Hero points are part of the character progession. You can have over 350 spare hero points right now. There is no dilemma.

I have 359 at the moment, how on earth did i get that many though?

Since I’m not a great GW2 PvP player, I thought I’d just read on what people thought about the new masteries on the forums here.

It really seems that NO ONE is happy.

The class forums are always the worst, be mindful of them. But….from what ive seen, a bit of is deserved/understandable.

Leftover Mastery Points Shop?

…so, unspent mastery points for HoT are a problem, but unspent mastery points for core and other expacs aren’t.
I see…

My question is, what if they add new maps that use new masteries which in turn use HoT Mastery points? I dont see the point in this to begin with, but it just seems like a good idea to have spares laying around in case it happens.

Because if they make more masteries for the remaining points people will feel pushed to get them since masteries are inherently ‘necessary’. A scrap vendor is anything but necessary and will just clean up the excess mess without pushing players

Thats not what i was saying, if they introduce new maps that use a new mastery(like LW3) and a player has used all the masteries that they have at some vendor(if it was theoretically added) then how would they get the mastery. LW3 didnt add enough mastery points to get all of its mastery, so i see no reason why a new mastery tree that was added should it use the HoT mastery points would either.

Im not saying a merchant should be added, im against it, because i like the fact there is excess.

The link is about open world PvP, as in zones you gank other peoples in, not dueling matches, where we have already GH, and seen in living world people in open world changed to be our opponents because they wore the white mantle clothes ( I believe it was in head of the snake?), and based on GH that is located in a PvE map, it is not totally
sorry, but you can really never use links like that since HoT and meta events……or mounts……Beside this link being from 2012 (which is non usable…ever from now on, not in school or any other place, unless if article explained something older, like the pyramides) then you can without a doubt find quotes about not making gear hard to craft/buy or find….we got vipers/minstreal that are very needed. You can of cause also find the “no mount” article etc….I could go on, but you get the idea

From what i can tell from researching and both playing through head of the snake, you dont get marked as an enemy for other players and cant be killed by them. In the silverwastes area, when first introduced there was a bandit champion you could give 2 gold to to get a boon that would allow safe passage through bandit territory(still there too) however, it no longer marks you as enemy to other players(and you couldnt fight back anyways), after quite a lot of negative feedback from players on the entire idea.

LEVEL 80 - DISTRESSING

Oh come on Rhanoa, did you read the OP? He was doing his personal story when his XP bar stopped. He didn’t go from core to HoT (which is part of GW2 btw). Please read the OP.

So – I googled – finding lots of other people have experienced this disconnect – and all you have to do is start the HoT expansion (I had already paid for) by going to a specific destination.

[/quote]
Yea…He had to go start HOT to keep earning exp while he was still working on the base game story, thats the disconnect hes referring to and i can see why it would be confusing, they dont explain in any way shape or form that once you hit level 80 in game you will stop earning EXP UNLESS you go start HOT.

Some actual new armor sets for a change, instead of all these outfits.

So much this, i would love more gem store armor sets…or in game ones…even if they are annual it would be neat.

I know the reasoning they dont do it, but still, it would be nice.

Im glad that the ones we Do get, are decent looking even on my Charr for the most part.
