Armor repair has no purpose anymore

I also vote for the return of the armor repair penalty and removal of WP costs.

And while we’re at it, with mounts coming, I’d say they should remove about 90% of the WPs in the game. Make the world livelier by having people running around and/or make more use of Asura Gates instead of Waypoints.
Put up some story that Balthazar damages whatever WPs use to work and now there’s not enough energy to build new ones and a bunch just went dead, w/e.

One of the cool things about other (older) MMOs I used to play was the sense of danger and adventure going forward somewhere I knew it’d be hard to return to if I die.

The same can applies to armor repair, make the cost like 10s or 20s per damage piece. That’s a huge gold sink beneficial to the game’s economy, makes players consider their actions more carefully, you’d stop seeing those people AFKing in the middle of nowhere getting ressed and killed over and over again, so it’d also help make players work towards improving themselves than just zerging bosses.
Currently dailies give 2g which is quite a lot so a player can die like 10~20 times per day without a loss, but make it scalable with their level (or gear) of course.

And oh, do remove the armor damage from WvW, just like PvP, or come up with a new mechanic to punish WvW death in a way not to make zergs shy from engaging and dying.

I have to disagree with one point: getting rid of WPs wont cause that sense of danger if you are in a map below your level. I can kill anything in any zone level 30 and below in one or two hits. I can kill anything in any zone level 60 and below in about 5 or 6, could do less if i was playing a power class too. The only exception is champions and even then they melt pretty quick too.

If they wanted to get rid of WPs, and manage to balance out downscaling + make the lower level areas more fun for a high level person to enter, id agree. Otherwise id rather just be able to go where i need to go and leave.

It’s honestly amazing that people are using the fact that i play daredevil to justify broken game mechanics. I cant imagine roaming on a class with less mobility considering how many people i have WP before even DD mobility can catch them. If you go outside with a kittenty build its your own god kitten fault.

This is the exact same reason that logging out while in combat counts you as dying. You should not be allowed to avoid playing the game just because you’re likely to loose in that situation.

Roam on my ranger quite a bit recently. I do however avoid all fights i can, and when i get attacked by a daredevil i just stay still and dont bother activating any skills on my bar, theres no point in doing so…so why bother?

That’s kinda your fault for not doing any AP tbf though

I mean, its not like they really just throw it at you either, alot of the stuff i have left is either grinding or spending massive amounts of money(dwayna collection and such) for a very small pay out.

Plus, ive been busy with RL. I fully expect to be behind everyone else and im perfectly fine with that. I do what i enjoy in the game and ive maxed out the AP i can gain in most of that content(just started doing fractals though)

They are dead because of that time when you didnt get the extra tokens or the extra 5G. That was the time when the community “moved”(forcefully) on, Anet took away almost all the gold reward for dungeons for a period of time and just left tokens behind. It was only after massive amounts of complaints that they even added that in. Unfortunately it never made a recovery, probably never will.

And I totally agree that is what killed dungeons, but that doesn’t change the fact that the rewards are just and good or better (depending if you think double the tokens is worth more than 1g). It also doesn’t change the fact that dungeons never recovered because people think they’re dead and not worth it still while they are. This is just like how everyone though only Ele did good DPS but as soon as DPS meters existed and opened everyones eyes, people started to use other classes in PUGs.

Ah, i see! Its a shame really, would love to get all the skins, but having nobody in the small guild im in thats willing to them sucks ;[

Concerning dungeon rewards, back in the day it was the following:
3 AC paths for 4.5g
2 CoF paths for 2g
3 CoE paths for 3g (Charged cores/lodestones)

This would get you 9.5g and 480 tokens. Nowadays you’d get the following:

3 AC paths for 1.5g
2 CoF paths for 0.66g
3 CoE paths for 1g
Extra 5g for 8 paths

So you will now get the following of 8.16g and 950 tokens. So the difference nowadays is losing 1.34g for 470 tokens which is totally worth it imo. Yes there was a time when you didn’t get the extra tokens or the extra 5g and that was terrible, but nowadays the reward is pretty much the same or better. So dungeons are now dead because people keep saying they’re dead and the community moved on.

@Dante what do u mean by they ‘dropped’ your group? It can also mean in the sense ‘abandoned’, as in left your group. It would help to clarify

If all you’re saying is is there’s a troll joining groups and changing their lfg’s when the owners are afk, that’s kind of a harmless joke. Not to encourage that sort of behavior but some of those posts are sorta funny. I should remember on April’s fools or somesuch where rarely could u find a lfg that was for serious.

Thats not harmless at all, if i get reported for having that in my LFG search block, and then i get banned, because of it, Which could happen, that is not harmless. I wasnt afk either, i said hello to them and they left the group.

No offence, but I don’t think you’re reading my points properly.

I didn’t purchase the LS with real money; I used gold because I didn’t want to pay real money just for it, and didn’t appreciate the baiting. With regards to the relative prices gems/gold, and the ‘free’ unlock method.

You’re completely missing the point I made about ‘just playing a game’ and avoiding having to also read about the game every week, in regards to advertisements, unlocking the content for free, and people who are busy in real life, etc.

I’m not sure what relevance explaining other MMO titles micro-transactions and subscription fees has?

Definitely go back and try to reread it, as much of that reply seemed nonsensical.

No offense but when you put “Except i was forced to pay for it” and you didnt specify how you where forced to pay for it, and with what currency, i assumed you meant with real money, which is why i went on to explain what other MMOS where doing.

And as the person above me posted. the most important thing for an MMO is an active player base,

and as i also posted and this is my very hmmm…not moveable opinion, if you leave for an extended amount of time (3+ months for me), you as a player shouldnt really have a problem putting the bare minimum of 10$ to unlock a story and the maps that they come with, which offer a very good amount of rewards.

Except… I was forced to pay for the content. There’s no unlock option for someone who has been busy in real life. What happened to just playing a game Dante? You want me to read the Newsletters every week now too? I’m afraid I do somewhat despise that proposition.

I highly doubt your latter claim, and the point itself is in murky water. I would return you to my previous point about the outcry that would occur if the Living Story was a pay-for mini expansion – given the rampant complaints Anet received from both LS1, and the HoT expansion as examples. Too short, low quality, buggy, I believe were the common themes complained about. The fact it was free just mitigates the issue of what you are getting.

I’m happy the majority have it for free; but here I am having to pay for it, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who felt it was a bit of a scam given what I explained above in previous posts.

Edit: I would counter your point about the removal of Subscriptions, by the fact that most of it is moving to micro-transactions. GW2 is a prime example of this. Logging in daily is an irrelevent point to this.

Except, you really werent, you chose the quicker option which was to purchase it with real money. Yes it takes longer to farm the gold to get it, but plenty of people do this which is why the expansions arent available for purchase with gems.

As to what happened to just playing a game? Its always been this way, except in the past you used to pay for a subscription thus giving the developer money every month regardless of how much you played so they could develop more content. In GW2 you dont have to give them a cent of your money aside from the cost to purchase the expansions(Which give you full access to the base game, which you dont have if you play for free), because you can farm gold and convert it to gems.

lets look at other MMOS on the market currently however, and the first release of this game.

In GW1 you paid for all the expansion(which yes where base games) and you paid full price for them regardless at release i believe it was either 40 or 50$, you also payed for Eye of the north(20$) too, and towards the end of that games lifecycle as a very populated game if you wanted the outfits they offered you had to pay for those too, much like you do in this one

ESO in its very early time as an MMO had a subscription(no longer is their a subscription) and paid for DLC, ontop of that if you play ESO on the console you have to buy the DLC for each different account on the console(PC users dont.) You do still have to buy the expansions and DLC however.

KOTOR online has a subscription still(optional) as well as paid DLC and expansions if you dont use that subscription option + their version of the gem store.

EVE online has a subscription(can play for free though its limited). If you play for free you have to pay for the expansions(of which there are currently over twenty, and more on the way).

Star Trek online required a purchase and a monthly recurring fee much like WOW does. It also has both “Seasons” which are free to subscribers, and expansions. On top of this, it has free to play with heavily limited access to items AND veteran rewards for total subscription time + a cash shop.

Final Fantasy XIV, much like WOW requires a subscription(has free content releases), has a cash store and full priced expansions.

So let me do your calculations for you. Let’s say 40g a day by doing T4 fractals. So I have to farm these daily for around a week, let’s say 7 days, averaging roughly around 30 minutes per set.
I have to farm this for 3 1/2 hours to unlock the season. The gems in real money, costs at most £10, although I haven’t checked the precise figures. It is more logical to pay for the LS with real money – which in these circumstances, I would call baiting.

If you want it your way, make it pay-for content for everyone and see how many people are angry over the quality and value? You shouldn’t reward people constantly for logging into a game, is Arenanet really that desperate for people and funding? I would doubt, but that’s what it infers.

Edit: Oh, and I don’t subscribe, or want to subscribe to any Newsletters of pretty much any nature. My email inbox already suffers enough.

Im very well aware of how long it takes to get the gold from farming. Its not baiting either, its up to the player on how they want to unlock the content, you arent forced to do either, you can login and get it for free while its available. The fact that you dont want to subscribe to the newsletter is again, your problem not Anets.

The fact that they reward loyalty by giving people rewards for logging in daily has been highly praised throughout this games life cycle so to is the ability to get the LS content for free, and only recently have i started to see anybody complain about this. You are among the first.

Edit: another thing, more and more games are rewarding people for logging in daily. In this new age games have to compete for populations because of how many other games are in the market. Its also why alot of games no longer do subscriptions.

It’s essentially being penalised for not playing a game. Forget how they advertise it, again, people who aren’t currently playing the game for whatever reason, likely aren’t going to spend the time to update themselves on the game, be it logging in just to unlock these chapters or to look at advertisements.

Additionally; if you start paying real money to unlock these chapters, suddenly GW2 is becoming a pretty expensive game, given the rest of the gem store. I don’t think that’s the reputation Anet were aiming for?

You certainly shouldnt be rewarded for not playing the game, which is what you seem to want. Its also not expensive at all. You can buy anything in the gemstore by farming, literally anything. You can make anywhere between 30-40 gold a day just by doing tier 2 and tier 3 fractals, probably more if you can do tier 4s if you have that mastery unlocked.

On top of that, if you want to be aware of updates you can subscribe to their little newsletter, and only have to login when they release a new LS episode, which correct me if im wrong please, was at most once a month? That hardly seems like a big burden to me to get stuff for free.

Its perfectly reasonable. If you take a long break from the game what is the big deal about having to put in 10-20 dollars, if you dont want to farm?

I was gone for nearly 7 months on a deployment recently and then had to wait nearly another 4 before i could play GW2 again, i see no problem having to pay a little bit of money to unlock content that was added after the expansion was released(or before in the case of LS2).

Then again, im used to also paying for and getting much smaller amounts of content for “DLC” than this game offers for free if you login during the time frame its available. They also advertise it as such, expecting anything different is on you, not them

Its far easier to stay behind a boss when you are close to them too, which is more damage my shortbow does.

That’s still melee, even if you’re using a ranged weapon.

Not really, often times i stay far enough away to stay out of their attack range, which is still close enough to receive buffs from allies, and do the things i mentioned above. Unless im close enough to hit the boss with my sword, im not in melee.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Dante.1763

Dante.1763

You most likely don’t have any of the Fractal masteries… Once you have those you easily make 25 gold in the 30-40 minutes it takes you to do your dailies—and that’s on a bad RNG day.

And that’s not even counting the fractal 40 farm, which has by far the best Time/Gold ratio of anything in the game.

You arent wrong, i can only do tier 2 fractals at the moment, and im making easily 30 gold a day just doing the dailies + the ascended chests that drop occasionally. The amount of AR though…i really wanna get into T3s.

However, i will agree that i wish dungeons still had a place in this game. i like they way they where setup, and i hate the fact they decided to defunct them for Fractals and in the process utterly destroy the dungeon community the way that they did.

I think a large part of it was they couldn’t figure out how to keep the inactive WvW maps counting towards map completion or proactively keeping support/bug tickets down from people going: I’ve got everything mapped and I can’t see where I’ve missed anything, when what they’re missing is the hidden WvW maps.

Now the timing of the removal being prior to the WvW maps being rotated out may have been influenced by the complaining, but I highly doubt it was any part of the reason why it was removed.

Another part of it may have been that more and more servers like mine didnt have a WvW population making it really difficult to get certain areas mapped. On my server you would go into WvW and wed have maybe one or two camps, maximum because nobody did WvW, it was awful. On top of that you needed to be decently lucky with the(if i remember right) random color rotation they had set up to get the areas you needed if your server couldnt take them through playing.

Regardless, i think its a good thing they removed it from being needed for world exploration. I just dont agree that they need to make the GoB available through a merchant again(and theyve stated they wont either) you can still get it without playing WvW, just takes longer…

Now if only i had something to spend these tokens on..

It was removed 7 months prior to HoTs launch date though, i wouldnt exactly say thats right before HoT launch date.

March of 2015 for the removal of WVW map completion as part of world completion, October of 2015 for HoT launch date. While the new maps may have a played a part in it, im sure that people constantly nagging anet about it being removed as part of total map completion also played just as much a part in their decision, because otherwise they could have kept the maps as part of it and continued to make people wait to map them as they did prior.

Fix Kormir's hair + nose job?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dante.1763

First of all; ethnicity is not limited to skin color.
For example, an albino African person still looks African.
Physical traits such as nose, hair, cheekbones, prognathy, lips, chin, etc are much more defining to a person’s ethnicity than merely the color of their skin.

Secondly; the point isn’t to change the skin color, it still is a statue , but to return her face and hair to her original physical traits.
You say that it does ressemble her Guild Wars 1 shape, but does it really?

Compare these previously posted pictures.
Does the flat haired statue ressemble the kinky haired original Kormir?

I just assumed it was her cowl, and it was actually hiding her hair. In GW1, they didnt have hair on her statue, they hid it under her blindfold(she looks more like a ritualist than a paragon). Frankly prefer the statue they have of her in GW2 over the one in GW1.

The statue of kormir out in Godslost swamp is much closer to her GW1 statue, but even then you cant see the hair
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/a/af/Statue_of_Kormir_%28Godslost_Swamp%29.jpg

Wouldnt mind having the statue from godslost in DR, but i believe that the one in DR is the Krytan take on her, so i feel it should be different.

There is far too much CC, but there is also far too much access to potent, permanent boons, and far too much access to invulns and blocks/negation as well.

The way things are right now, you can’t kill people without locking them out of playing their characters, because most professions are just immune to everything and super mobile/reset-capable for good portions of every fight.

If they nerf CC, they need to nerf everything else.

And I’m not at all opposed to that.

I just really started getting into WvW and i noticed this almost instantly…ended up spending my day flipping camps and helping sieges when they where up and avoiding everyone i came across because it just wasnt enjoyable.

I recently created and played a Human Necromancer a bit and am at level 6 right now. So far, I like the Necro. Thing is, I usually play MMO’s solo. Is GW2 mostly do-able solo play? If I want to play mostly solo, what is a good race and class for that? Thoughts and help on all of this greatly appreciated

Race doesnt matter so much. Personally pretty much play Charr only. They are however a bit harder to do JPs on because of their size.

I think pretty much any class is decent solo, i own them all actually and the only one i didnt really like solo was thief, and to a much lesser extent Ele. I Love my ranger solo and its probably my heaviest hitter as well, though i tend to neglect my other characters.

Should LW progress be account based?

“Because GW1 did it that way” isn’t really a good reason, especially considering GW1 was a very, very different game that was designed in a very, very different way on many fronts.

Didnt answer my question however. Why should they make the story account bound, when its your characters story and not your accounts. I see no problem in making achievements obtainable on different characters if one has ran all the way through the story, i still think each character should play through the story all the way.

They didnt have to in GW1, so why would they need to do it here? serious question though, in GW1 you had to do the story on every single character, whats the difference?

Id prefer to keep it character based honestly, you get rewards for doing it as it is per character which is enough for me.

However it would be nice if once it was done on one character you could then do the achievements on another..regardless of if theyd played through it.

I dont know, as someone coming back to the game from a long work related break. Trying to get into raids is pretty freaking impossible. Setting up a LFG most of the time has nobody joining, certainly not enough. I really want to learn it without having to pay 100 freaking gold to join a group that in the end i know im not going to learn anything from. So i would love to see some kinda learning tier that doesnt have the same kinda rewards(while still giving you something to make it worth the amount of time its going to take. Not to worried about it right now cause ill be leaving again, but it would be nice to see when i come back, because the elitsm(if thats what you want to call it) is going to grow the longer raids stay in the game.

One might argue that horses were domesticated in the past but we have none today, but that seems rather unlikely. The way people speak about horses in the books suggests a living familiarity that can only be earned by living in a society where domesticating horses is as mundane as real world societies.

I dont know about the asura gate one however, because from what i know of asura gates they are set to a specific location(can they be randomized?) and their needs to be another gate on the other side to exit, so…unless theres an asura gate in Kryta somewhere. Also any sort of familiarity between the people of GW and horses can also easily be explained with centaurs, they are half horse, and its far easier for a writer in the real world to explain what the lower half of a centaur looks like by comparing it to a real horse, than to say a dolyak, which not all of the audience is going to know what that is, same with the norns hair, im fairly sure most people know that a horses tail is decently long IRL, so to are quite a few of the centuars in game.

Alot of those phrases ive seen used before in other universes in a similar manner. one of them was in a bloody scifi universe some 5000 odd years from now and horses didnt exist anymore, but yet a person who had only seen pictures of them somehow knew what a bucking bronco felt like(no they didnt have technology like the holo deck).

At one point i truly believe that horses for sure used to exist in the Tyrian world, weve seen them actually. in GW1, though they where undead(unless im mistaken and thats not a horse.) Anymore though…ill hold my breath till i see one in game, because literally everything that horses could be used for are done by Dolyak in game. Though i doubt it will ever happen, the day it does though i will gladly admit i was wrong!

PoF Character/Level Questions

I should have stated that all of my Characters are low level. With that said, should I use the level 80 boost now, and then use the other boost that comes with PoF later? Thoughts and help greatly appreciated

Honestly its up to you. If you dont have a single level 80, maybe level a character or two normally first that way you learn the class. I dont know if you PVP or not, so you may already know them fairly well.

I would for sure if you care about story at all, play through it in order though.

I honestly think horses are extinct in the GW universe and have been for sometime now, its the only way i can fathom that we havent seen a single one in game…anywhere.

I do believe that all the expansions for GW2 will be level 80 content, much like all the LS maps that have been added.

Honestly dont care. Still have to buy an expansion to obtain it so…

And that level is a godsend for me, considering plan on rerolling my Revenant.

I pretty sure that underwater combat is frankly dead. ANET knows that alot of the players dont enjoy doing it at all, hell, look at how little they thought about the revenant and underwater combat. Not to mention that there isnt going to be underwater weapons in the new set of legendarys, and there havent been /any/ underwater weapons introduced in a long time, even in the BLC sets.

Events are getting boring - changes in PoF?

I expect PoF to be much like LS3. And quite a lot more like core Tyria when compared to HoT. Which for me is good thing and only reason to even consider buying it since I dislike pretty much everything in HoT, including those timed map-wide meta events.

What would lead you to expect this? I don’t expect it at all. They pretty well have to make the difficulty on par with HoT (which I love), otherwise they’re really not going to maintain their level 80 population.

i mean…yes and no, a decent amount of the population finds the HoT areas to be to hard. Im actually with Fog in that im thinking they will be like the LS3 maps. I would love to see some stuff on the level of HoT though.
