I remember in Gw1 when I logged in for halloween and festivals mainly for the crazy masks that we got each year, and each year it was different.
I miss that…I wish it was like that for Gw2 too…
Maybe a pumpkin head or a zombie mask… it was leaving always a memory of each halloween and even if the story was all the same each time it felt different with that.

Guild Wars 3?

Dantert.1803

SERIOUSLY?
Is this talk about Guild Wars 3 still going?
Wake up people! No Guild Wars 3 is coming, not now not in some years not ever probably!
Look at World Of Warcraft, did they do many versions of the game called Warcraft 1,2,3,etc? No! Because they got the right system from the start to create that kind of game.
Same for Gw2, they wanted to create a game that had no limitation like Guild Wars 1, so they decided to just upgrade the engine and the tech…not because they wanted to create a series like Assassin’s Creed…
At first I thought it was funny but now it’s really making me think if people think before they write something like “Guild Wars 3?”…
What you could expect are many expansions coming every 2 years, now that they seem to have found the balance. And no, don’t expect something like Hot for the next expansions, Hot was not well planned, the next if everything goes smooth will be massive!
Cheers folks…

[Request] Mix of standard and action cam

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dantert.1803

I don’t like to use the action camera for the only reason that I need for my playstyle to look easily around me and place ground targets without being constraint to the front.
That being said I think that the action camera is a great idea and has a really big potential.
I would like to see some of it’s features implemented in the standard camera mode, especially the lock on target when near the central point and the auto attack.
That will make it much more appealing for the players like me.
I think that the lock on target could be the same for the standard camera mode but with the range indicator that we have for the action camera on the cursor instead. This way, when you move the cursor near your target it instantly lock on them while if you click away it disengages.
It wuld also be really cool to have an hotkey to switch on and off the options for ground targeting or to roll through them maybe with a key+mouse wheel.

So, Please Anet?

Don't make the mursaat the "good guy"

in Lore

Just to make sure, you do know that most of their actions were taken to safeguard the world from the return of the titans by keeping the Door of Komali shut right? As the players back in GW1 we kinda screwed the pooch on that one and then had to fix it again in Nightfall.

Well, the Mursaat were scared that the titans would kill them all…so they guarded the only thing that was important to them…hemselves…

Also in the tablets in ember bay they are always saying that they want to rule the world….

No middle ground for me… I’m a little sich of how some parts of the lore have been treated lately…al being a beautiful world where everything is wonderful, friendship and stuff like that….wth! there are dragons destroying the existing world…

But please…..please Anet…don’t make him good, not even a little bit…mursaat are evil and twisted beings…I can’t stand to one of them being redeemed and becoming bbf with the player character…

And that happens for all the other characters…my norn do not like water…my necro is a dervish from gw1 that remained alive with necromancy, so he knows everything about the old lore..
I wish there was a way to connect with the other RP players in a server RP only…that would feel amazing XD.

Implement a living world - instanced maps?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dantert.1803

Dantert.1803

Let’s start with our personal story. At the end we could witness Orr being cleansed but as soon as we left the instance, everything went back to normal. Especially now it would be too much work to revamp every Orr map. This would also mean we needed 2 different instances for each map. But right now it feels like your hard work didn’t change anything in Orr.

A much more up-to-date topic is the new season of the current living world. At the end of the second episode Aurene hatched. But if you're trying to visit her in the open world you'll stumble upon the egg again. So it seems like we're time travelers now! Of course there will be some parts of the game that can't be changed (Mordremoth is dead, so should we shut down Dragon's Stand? I don't think so). But smaller details such as the egg should be possible to work out. Will we need instanced maps to solve this problem?

TL;DR: There’s no actual progression in the open world maps compared to the (same) instanced maps in the story. Will we have instanced open world maps in the future?

THIS!
I pointed it out many times before, if they want to give us a “living world” then give us consistency in the world too, if not it all feels fake.
And I want to see Aurene because she is so cuuuuteee!

Playable Dwarves needed for balance

No, dwarves(even if I like the idea a lot) do not fit the lore, they are all stone and I don’t want to play as a stone dwarf..also the other remaining dwarves, the stone summit, were such a pain in the kitten in Gw1 that I would hate to see them as a playable race in Gw2.

But you know what is not well represented? Bird people! That’s why Tengu are the best idea ever for a new race.

Cheers!

Edit: Also dwarves would need long beard coming out from the helmets to look cool, now look at the mess they made with the missing beard for norns with some helmets… Thanks but no…

So now the Mursaat comes to rescue us and it seems that some people are trusting him to be a good guy… Then I think it would be really interesting in the LS to have 2 different branches of missions based on our choice to trust the Mursaat or not. That would be also good to make people replay the next Ls chapters.

The map: Much better than bloodstone fen, more interesting to explore and spend my time in it without getting sniped by hammers from kilometers away.

I wish Anet continues on this line! It’s getting better and better and it seems they are learning from their mistakes.

My only big problem with Rising Flames is that the story is not consistent with the actual world in a few parts. For example the egg in the main chamber of Tarir doesn’t update after the last mission, if you enter the instance in Tarir, the egg is still close. I wish it could be up to date.

Good job overall Anet!! Congrats to the team!

Ah! I forgot to say that the repeatable Hearts are a great idea imo, they kee giving me things to do in the empty time between one event and another.
I wish it was the same in the vanilla maps with those sweet rewards like minis and tonics.

They are working on it. The Default Builds in PvP can be considered the “alpha” release. After the bugs are ironed out of that, and potential UI suggestions are made, they will likely be upgraded to Build Templates. This will probably be considered the “beta” release.

Finally, Build Templates will be incorporated into PvE and WvW. Mind you, this will take time. So don’t hold your breath. But just know they are working on it.

Is there any official source about this?

if they give the scythe skin as an exotic what’s the point in making the collection? I can craft a staff myself…. I hope it’s not…because it’s just stupid

It’s an Ascended Staff; you can see it when you mouse-over the reward.

The skin, however, would be the same.

What I mean is that if the scythe skin is obtainable as a part of the collection then what is the point to give the ascended version for the complete collection? We can craft an ascended staff, I made some of them for my characters, I don’t need such an expensive collection to have another one, if I want an ascended staff I’ll craft it cheaper.
The point for me in this collection is the skin, that should be unique and hard to get.
I hope I made myself clear.
My guess is still that the last piece of the collection is a backpack or a trinket, that we will get in the LS. I would be totally fine with that and it would be fair.
What upsets me is the fact that they didn’t make things clear with this “coming soon”..

I’m just saying, it would be cool to have the option to play as a guild in WvW even if each erson is on a different server. I don’t even mind if they create a server only for these guilds so we can try it out…and not having to join a different guild just for Wvw.

I really want to play WvW with my guild that is not a WvW guild. We talked several times about trying it together but everyone is on a different server… it would be cool to have a guild wvw pass of a guild wvw team or better a squad(about 20 ppl? or less?)that if created put everyone from the team into the same server.
Maybe it would be better to manage low population servers and if the guild is not able to change the server without spending gems it would be fine I guess.

ASURA MASTER RACE!

New playable race - good or bad idea?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dantert.1803

Dantert.1803

A new race would be possible and it would make most sense to introduce them as a “hero race”. Those familiar with World of Warcraft know what I mean. It would be a race that starts at lvl 80 and would have a short introductory mission that introduces the race into the world and story, after which they start with the new content straight away.
They would not have acces to the vanilla personal story or any of the previous living world stories, instead they would start with the story of the newest expansion straight away.

That’s a clever work-around to some of the cost issues raised above. It presumes that future players won’t care about missing out on the Personal Story (or the 9 mastery point unlocks it offers), LS2, HoT, and LS3. I doubt that’s a good assumption given how many people are clamoring for Living World, Season 1. Although, of course, the existing stories would (and points) would still be available via other character slots, so let’s accept the idea.

ANet still needs to hire new actors and write appropriate dialogue for specializations, for future stories. They still need voice overs for existing skills/specializations. It’s still much more expensive to add a new race than add 9 more specializations.

Again, I would love to see a new race. I just don’t think it’s practical in the current environment, in which people are worried about ANet being able to deliver quality content on a regular basis.

I should have explained it more properly I guess: They idea of a hero class/race is that you need to have at least 1 lvl 80 character already before you can create one.

It still wouldn’t be cheap to develop such a race but if WoW and other MMOs can introduce new classes and races (even non-hero ones) with expansions than why not GW2? I know Anet doesn’t make as much money as Blizzard but WoW today isn’t THAT much ahead of GW2 in terms of popularity and revenue. Yet they still launch their upcoming expansion with the Demon Hunter, a new hero class/race similar to what I proposed Anet could do for future playable races.

The last reported subscription numbers for WoW was over 5 million. From the NA and EU subscribers at least Blizzard gets $15 or $20 dollars for each month they play (depending if they pay outright or buy tokens) plus they have a cash shop on top of that. That’s a lot of money on a per month basis. Compare that to gw2’s numbers (unknown but undoubtably less than 5 million) and not only no subscription but it has people who proclaim they’ll never spend a dime again unless ANet changes something or other to their personal satisfaction. This last quarter was the lowest one for ANet. Blizzard has reported exceeding expectations, both company wide and for WoW only and their company wide income is in the billions.

ANet has to look at its costs carefully before committing to a new feature. They didn’t even have enough money to continue with Legendary crafting, an advertised and paid for feature of this expansion. There’s a lot of costs involved in making a new race, both immediate and ongoing, and they’ll need to know they’ll get that money back.

You are actually making assumptions from nothing… you don’t write like someone that knows how game production works, so why your ideas about the current state of A-net should be of any importance? No offense meant there…
A-net cut the Legendaries not because they lack the founds but because they lack a team able to produce the legendary journey fast enough and in an interesting way.
On the other side they have shown us with the 5 races we have that they are more than capable to deliver Lore and interesting appearances for new races, because they have a team that has experience in creating characters animations and so on(experience that comes from ex Blizzard devs also).
Looking as things are now, a new race, with the quality of the current races, the much better storytelling and ability to deliver lore that we got in the Ls3(tat was amazing in my opinion btw), would be a really good plus to push people to buy the new expansion. Because, I want to repeat myself, that is what arenanet can do best and they should focus on their strong points instead of spreading too thin.

It wasn’t because they lacked the funds? Here MO talks about tough decisions they had to make between making new content or making new Legendaries. They didn’t have enough people to work on the new Legendaries and also to make the new content so they halted production and switched them over.

In that quote he specifically said they knew it was long term project. So therefore if they knew it would take years then the time the team was taking wasn’t the problem. They did, after all, get 3 new ones and all the old ones done before they quit so they were on track, or even ahead of schedule. However they needed more devs working on new content and in spite of having to go back on expansion advertisements and what was paid for, they didn’t hire the new devs. So that shows it’s a finance problem. They couldn’t afford new devs. They had to retrench and reallocate.

Hi all,

In the upcoming Spring 2016 Quarterly Update, we’ll launch the new legendary short bow, Chuka and Champawat. The team outdid themselves on this one. This new precursor journey takes you through a memorable experience inspired by a real-world story, and the bow you craft at the end is the perfect commemoration of that journey. I hope you all check it out.

Last year we talked about plans to gradually build out a second set of legendary weapons through live content updates. That’s a big responsibility. We have a team of six developers working on that, who could work on it for years to come.

As game director I have to make tough trade-offs. One thing I believe is that we have to focus on the core game first before taking on additional responsibilities. I wrote in the Guild Wars 2 Design Manifesto in 2010 that our vision was to create a living, dynamic world, where there’s always something to do. Let’s ensure we succeed on that front.

So, after shipping Chuka and Champawat, I’ve asked that we indefinitely suspend work on new legendary weapons. This team of developers will instead shift their efforts back to Living World style content, building new journeys and events for everyone to participate in.

I know this will be a controversial decision. I’ll hang out with you here on the forums for a little while today to discuss it. And I’m always available by email.

Mo

Are you aware that reallocation of resources doesn’t mean exactly that they don’t have enough founds? You are still making a bunch of assumptions…
Here in the quote all that MO states is that he preferred to focus on living story and faster shipping instead of wasting time on the legendary journey that will take years to be properly finished. That’s it!
No sign whatsoever of what you and other people keep talking about of Anet not having enough founds to focus on a new race or “no don’t suggest new stuff because they already don’t have enough people to fix the bugs”. This doesn’t make sense!

He said he had to make a tough choice. You don’t have to make a tough choice when you have the resources needed to do both things.

New Legendaries were a part of the new expansion that we paid for. When a business announces to the people who paid for something that they have to make a tough choice and not provide it, it’s not a decision lightly made. If he couldn’t do both things then there were constraints. They could have hired new devs, but they didn’t. They instead retrenched. Reallocated. And that says lack of funds.

That quote is 4 months old. If you look on the other thread about their finances you see that last quarterly report had their lowest earnings so far.

Wrong… they are not hiring other people for the legendary team because MO thought it was not worth it. In fact they are hiring more people for all the positions, and they keep doing it because they can afford it, just take a look at the anet site once in a while. If the situation was as you are saying they wouldn’t hire that many people. Also the posts in careers are much more than a year ago..meaning? they are intensifying hiring for the expansion and new content..
Legendaries were not delivered most probably because the planning for the shipping was wrong and too positive about the timing. The though choice was about reallocating devs on things that they know they can do right and letting prople down about the decision…
Sure we could have had new legendaries in a year or so…or maybe with the release of the next expansion but MO took the right decision to cut with the lies.
But if you prefer to belive the “Anet has not enough money!” theory, you are welcome to do so… just don’t spread misinformation please…

New playable race - good or bad idea?

Destroyers immune to fire etc

I look forward to the day when some specific mobs will get the right immunities, like immunity to fire for the Destroyers, Fire imps and elementals , chilling for ice mobs and so on… It was a mechanic that I really appreciated in Gw1 that put 1 more step to the understanding of the enemies and their weaknesses.
Also it would be nice to see the reverse, for example, mordrem and orrians zombies get a % more damage from fire but mordrem heal from water, Destroyers get damage if chilled but restore health if on fire and so on.

It would be great…please think about it a-net!

New playable race - good or bad idea?

Having a new playable race is a good idea IF:
1: It’s not only about the race but also the starting areas, several low level zones with a new exploration achievement, hearts vistas and so on. So that low level players starting in vanilla could eventually migrate to the new maps and explore them without get killed by high level mobs.
^ this means having a bunch of little chain events like the vanilla game.
2. deep lore explorable with the outside and inside perspective.

I still like the idea of having new races, and the different appearance of each race and lore is something that made me buy Gw2.

I made this one before the s3 was released since I felt that Eir needed to be remembered ^^ I was so happy to see that the devs had the same idea for her ingame!

Additional longer beards for Norns? Please?

I’m still waiting for some cool longer beards for the Norns.
Something wild like the norns in Gw1 that you could see coming out from under the helmet.

They were so cool, I would pay for something like that

Also I don’t mind about some clipping on the chest armor and we saw already with the long hairstyles that they can rig the lower part to the torso to have less problems when the character is turning the head.

So please Anet pleeeeeease?!
