[Tinfoil hat mode on] Hidden Evil Priory

in Lore

Dantert.1803

So as the title says this is a bit of a tinfoil hat topic, but I like things like this so why not?
Also this could contain spoilers for those who didn’t play the living story 2 so be warned!
My theory is that the Durmand Priory is Evil…yes… I’ll explain myself.
This idea came up after doing for the 4th time the Hidden Arcana (living story 2 mission).
I have to say that I was suspicious from the start, when you enter the Durmand Priory Basement you see this huge statue of Abaddon and the description on the base says ""Abaddon! Lord of the Everlasting Depths, Keeper of Secrets, open mine eyes and bestow upon me the knowledge of the Abyss…"—from the Scriptures of Abbadon [sic], giver of magic ". We know from Gw1 nightfall that Abaddon is evil, yes true he was the God of Secrets, so it makes sens that is guarding the secrets of the Durmand Priory, but still, he did a lot of bad stuff, he is like the Devil of Gw universe… for example (I take GW2W by word here) “the Searing of Ascalon, the Cataclysm of Orr and the Jade Wind of Cantha, as well as many tragedies which occured indirectly as a result of those events, such as occupation of Kryta by the White Mantle and their mursaat overlords, which led to the Krytan civil war. Abaddon created strife against and within the human race for many centuries, manipulating the Charr in their invasion of northern human kingdoms of Ascalon, Kryta and Orr, and ultimately causing civil war in Elona which, aided by his humanborn worshippers, nearly resulted in his release.” . So what? Abaddon worshippers in the Durmand Priory? Not suspicious at all they say…
Then when you go in the next rooms you start to see other things like the tail of Zhaitan hanging from the ceiling and some experiments connected to the dragons in the room closed by a metal grid where the tail starts.
One of my friends showed me the last time that if you dance in front of the statue of Abaddon the god will punish you by putting you into downed state, an yes I know, that’s an easter egg from gw1 dencing Abbaddon, but let’s say it has an actual meaning, that the god has still some power on the Gw2 world even though he should be deceased and his powers as we know it from Gw1 Nightfall was absorbed by Koromir and Lyssa.
So I ask, why?
Why is there a statue of the fallen god into the Basement of the Durmand Priory?
Why does he still have the power on life and death?

Also there’s the topic of the tail of Zhaitan.
Now we know that when a dragon dies a huge amount of power is released, we saw that with Mordremoth, but when we killed Zhaitan nothing like that happened, he fell in the sea and that was it. Then for some reason no one talks about it, the undead are still there and then our character, the Pact Commander discovers this hidden place right under the Durmand Priory with one of the tails of the undead Dragon, a tail that should be dissolved in my opinion after the dragon “died”…. yes “died” because after the fall of Zhaitan in the final mission we speak with Caithe, that sneaky, liar and traitor son(daughter) of a leaf, and she tells us that we succeded. (Totally no bad feelings left against Caithe…none XD)
No mission to be sure that the evil is dead right? And we end forgetting about it..
The start of the tail also is closed in this room where we can peek into from a metal grid, and what is clearly visible is that they are attaching machines to the tail, probably extracting it’s power…or maybe trying to revive the dragon or keeping him alive…
There are other experiments related to the dragon but you can’t get inside. You are the Pact Commander and you can’t get inside and have an explenation about what’s going on in there.
I guess is quite obvious then that there is something evil going on in the Durmand Priory, they are Abaddons worshippers with a twisted interest into the power of the Undead dragon, they took a piece of it and they keep it alive that near to our beloved LA, imagine if they manage to revive the dragon or something goes wrong, the city would be doomed…

I warned you! THE END IS NIGH!!!

If Scarlet was to return..

I like this kind of roleplaying stuff XD
I actually brought my dervish to gw2 keeping him alive with necro magic and brought his wife (my girlfriend Elementalist from gw1) back to life via the Mists and now she is a Revenant…

I want Tengu as the next playable race!

I would like tengu but they won’t do it. The armour sets are designed for humans and they already don’t modify most of the armour properly for the Charr. The tengu would be worse.
Besides, most guys wont want to kitten to it so they won’t be popular. They are more likely to go with largos.

I really don’t see the problem there with Tengu, they can share nearly all the animations from the charr, they actually already have basic costumization due to the updated models in HoT, also they already have a lot of lore in place.
About the armors I wouldn’t expect them to re make each armor for each race, the effort put in adapting the human type armors to the charr body for me is good enough. We have cultural armors for that that fit perfectly. Also i can totally live with a bit of stretching and clipping of the armor, I saw that in a lot of other games that don’t even have not human shaped races, I’m just aware that is the best doable solution at the moment.
About people not wanting Tengu, I think most of them still don’t realiz the potetial, but I think the majority would love to explore a new part of the lore, and if the designs are cool like in this image https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/7/7f/C4_Tengu_concept_art.jpg I don’t see why people would not want them
I see a lot of complaining about the human armors applied to the charr and all the issues and clipping, but people have to understand that making a full armor in 3d takes time, a lot of time, not just because of the 3d model but also for the rigging and implementation, if they had to multiply the time they spent for the armors for each race or just x2 you would have had to wait much more time for the release of the game. But such a thing is just insane from a production point of view.

Elves – no. Stop.

Hylek – a minor race the major races took pity on.
Skritt – ^
Quaggan – ^^
Grawl – ^^^
Ogres – ^^^^

Jotun – purely enemies and they follow the mantra of “hide yo’ kids, hide yo’ wife”. Apparently related to ogres? Pretty much a species on the way out to the Mists.

Krait – pretty much permanently cast as villains.

Centaurs – were solely enemies, but now, that is not so… However, armour is still a super big issue—they don’t wear pants!

Dredge – pink fleshies. Mole people. Blind enemies with tunnel-vision who want world domination and seem to not care about Primordus omnoming on them like little wrinkly gummy bears. Formerly slaves of dwarves.

Dwarves – all turned to stone, near-extinct, and part of the Great Dwarf and on their way to meet their maker in the Great Forge in the Mists/Rift. Ogden’s explanation for female dwarves is too half-baked—at least LotR actually showed dimorphism between the two sexes even if they were bearded ladies.

Margonites – look like Branded, are humans transformed by the dead/defeated/forgotten god of secrets, and are generally evil—yet free-thinking individuals.

Largos – possibly shipped with Bubbles expac, but issues with individualistic nature and assassin-goals. They will probably be the welcome-mat minor race along with quaggan and other deep-sea minor races. Also: #blue-skin, white hair, ridiculous breathing apparatus, and manta-butterfly wings issues. Interestingly dual-wields swords underwater.

Kodan – possibly shipped with Jormag expac. White bear compare with white giant humans (Norn). Add tattoos and funky charr hairstyles? Different faces? Brown Kodan? Black Kodan? Possibilities with Norn-bear rig.

Tengu
- norn-raven rig/charr rig/they have their own rigs already!
- they have their own starter city and if Anet wanted to close shop on tengu-playable possibility, they would have opened it up already as a tengu theme-park.
- Anet already started on them as a playable race. They have a base from which to start with circa 2012 (probably earlier, like before sylvari redesign).
- new higher-quality tengu textures with HoT!
- more story, avian race, get rid of the kittening blur-blotch in the middle of the world map…

Lore is not an issue for Tengu.

A new playable race would help draw in new players, while fixes to existing aesthetic issues or to mechanics are only appreciated later on. The latter is an issue of ongoing quality improvements, while the former is an extravagant marketable event. It’s something that draws positivity, rather than just clearing away a few dark clouds, it adds a new aspect—something with visual impact that can be celebrated because it is more tangible/visible.

It’s been four years. I’m sure they’ve fully baked their half-baked idea by now..! Easy bake! No need to commit any more resources ‘cause they’ve already done it!

Tengu, pls.

THIS!!!! It explains everythignI tried to say but with better words! Thank you!!!
Also I changed the topic from a more open “We” to a more closed “I” so maybe the posts saying “oh don’t talk for me” will stop.

Leo G. : Totally agree!
I played Gw2 from the start, and I’m a lore guy, I love it! Still I continue to discover stuff about the races, there are a bunch of interesting stuff about them even into the expansions.

Also I’ll throw it here… “They(Tengu) apparently have some ancient, lost knowledge of the Elder Dragons (an awareness of the cyclic nature of their awakening, for example), but it is not known how they acquired it.” -Source Tengu/GW2 Wiki
It also says “After the defeat of Zhaitan, Izu Steelshrike mentioned that the death of an Elder Dragon may spark renewed tengu interest into joining the other races in their fight against the dragons. However, no such movement has been seen so far .” And " During her preparations to assault Lion’s Arch, Scarlet Briar considered forging an alliance between the tengu and largos, but for one reason or another this did not come to pass."
Quite interesting don’t you think?
Also it comes up with the Largos so maybe their fans can keep their hopes up Maybe they will be playable right after Tengu :P

So of we can’t turn off some effects, maybe we can have something else.
Here are my suggestions:
1-Silhowette overlay of the mobs
Not so pretty to see but I would live with that. What I mean is that there could be a strong outline around the targeted enemy that is rendered over all the effects, so that you can still read what the movements of the enemy are in the blob of light that is created from the effects.
2- Skill activation bar under the healthbar like in gw1. Just for the Pve would be enough, Maybe Wvw too. It could help to have a more tactical combat based even more on what the enemy is doing.
3-Turn off all the skill effects or turn off every effects exept for your own
4- Similar to the 1st, option to render the characters on top of the effects.

Any other suggestion would be appreciated.

It could be implemented for the guild missions…. like a daily dungeon or something like that, with a special reward out of it. So they could limit the farming to 1 per week or so

Okok
I surely prefer Margonites to Tengu.
But I was checking again the Tengu’s models and I saw that they are introducing a much better quality for textures and especially for number of polygons, you can clearly see the difference between the Tengu in front of the door in LA and the one in the Guild Hall.
It could be just an update for Hot but I think that instead of this if it was just for mobs and random characters they would have saved much more polygons like with the old ones.
Lower poligon meshes are used for less important characters, mainly mobs. They also seem to be used for Kodan, Skritt, Largos, Quaggan and other lower races, and they were used for Tengu too but not anymore.
You can clearly see the difference in the head, the topology around the eyes of the new Tengu shows that the devs decided to spend more polygons on them because it was worth it…for what reason? I have my theory
I can clearly see though how they could add Kodan and Largos in some future expansions but they will have to replace the models first.
I’m actually just going for the more plausible one, the Tengu, because of the visual update.
I’m a big fan of Kodan too though! They are actually the white version of the norn bear transformation from gw1, so much awesomeness all together

I’m not talking about things that are still in game, I’m talking about armor pieces that are not obtainable or the destroyer scythe staff skin that it seems unobtainable but it’t still there.
Leave just the stuff that we can find, make or buy.
So at least we know if the Destroyer scythe skin could be found or crafted in some way or if the tribal armor is to be found in game.

Love for Elona and additional race

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dantert.1803

Dantert.1803

Foe me each real expansion should have an additional race to play to deliver more content and actually bring a progression from level 1 to level 80, that is what made me love Gw1 expansions.
So, as for Cantha, I would love to have an expansion with Elona, with progression from level 1 to 80 and a new Race..
And here I know that some people will argue that a new race is a waste of time, bla bla bla. I don’t think it’s like that, I played a lot in the starting zones and I think they are extremely interesting with all the lore and little stories that you can find. Also with the option of just one starting zone the low level content could be polished even more than the original content made for the Gw2 release.

So my point is, let’s give Elona the love it deserves!
If an expansion with Elona comes out then what new race would you like to see in it?
For me the best would be a redeemed faction of Margonites, maybe with a story connected to Abbadon and mysteries of the land of the sand and sun.

It’s open to discussion though, what race would you prefer?
What themes would you like to see more in depth?
Any content that you miss?
Do you wish for the dervish and the paragon to come back as specializations? do you see it possible and if yes how could it be applicable to the current system?

SUGGESTION:
I was trilled when the Action Camera was implemented but i found out short after that I didn’t feel to have enough control on what was around me especially behind, since I use sometimes to place the Marks with my nectro behind me in certain situations.
Anyway i really enjoy the Crossair pointer, the litthe circle that attacks what enters a certain range, so I thought woudn’t be awesome to switch the current pointer with the Crosshair and implement the range and modes that make the action camera so awesome on the standard camera?
I think it would, I see no issues with it since you can still click the enemies but it would be easier to catch them + the freedom to rotate the camera indipendently to where your mouse is, and the option to click on your skillbar if needed.
Anyone else interested in it?
I don’t really know how hard it could be to take a part of one mode and paste it to the other one but it would really make everything easier, at least for me.
Also the attack with the lmb would be the best ‘^’ .

I created him in Gw1 as a Dervish and I created a story that kept him alive in Gw2.
Since the Scythe staff skin came out I was mesmerized by it, it was the best fit for my Dante so I decided to try my best and get it but I didn’t succeed… Then i saw it on the trading post at a really expensive prince so I tried again to make enough gold but it seems I’m going too slow.
So I ask all the kind souls of Tyria: Could you help a fellow player getting that Scythe staff skin? I would be eternally grateful and I hope to return the favour in some way.
I need more gold, and since I think I’m not doing the right things to make money I need some adivices too.
I’m currently farming materials and doing the chest farm in SW all the time that I can, selling all the valuable stuff that I get and also doing fractals, dungeons and bosses but probably I have no luck..
If anyone has some spare coins it would be great, even some bronze will make the difference for me.

Dantert.1803

It’s some time that when I win with a random team I send something to all my team mates like some consumables, rare materials but mainly pizza XD
So I was thinking, it would be cool if, to lower the toxicity in the pvp community you could decide to send a gift to some selected team mates or player you fought against that you thought were really nice, friendly or just good and honest players, something like the rating system in lol but with a selected set of useful and valuable stuff that you can select from a menu’ and send after selecting the players.
It would also be nice a system just like League of Legends, where you can give a thumb up to your team and enemies and when someone gets enough of those they get a title that will expire with time but that can be sustained with good behavior.
What do you guys think about this idea?
I know it’s not the most important thing to implement but still iteresting for me

I said it before i’ll say it again, a build saving system is needed in this game!
Would it be from the devs or overwolf app I don’t care but it should be one of the first things to implement Imo.
What’s the point to have the option to change build on the flow if it takes so much time to change the stats armor rings and so on also having to save a screen or write down the traits because if you don’t have a good memory you will have to figure out every time and never be battle ready.
I don’t want to spend my time in game to try to remember my previous build or find each piece of armor I have associated to that build. It should be easier, it should be faster.
There was some posts from the devs saying that they wanted to implement it because with raids and elite specs that was one of their first thoughts, but we haven’t heard of anything about it in a long long time.
So please implement it!

Just saw the last video from WP and my interest into the long forgotten activities is up again. I posted about this some time ago but I didn’t come up with this cool idea.

It actually would be really cool imo, to team up with guild mates to challenge other team mates in custom 1v1 up to 5v5 or more activities like keg brawl, obsidian sactum and the others.
No need for more implementation or more activities just having them playable as a team between guild mates or against another guild would make it even more interesting and maybe if there’s a way to make points for the guild that way even better so the little guilds of 5 or 10 players could have a cool way to level up the guild.

It would be interesting to hear your constructive feedback about this, and let’s hope that this message reaches the devs

I would really love to have Activities like Keg Brawl to be accessible like stronghold and the standard PvP modes, that would give more choice and it would resurrect aesily some good content.
What do you think about it?
Would you like something like that?

Yesterday I was playing Toypocalypse and I started fantasizing with my guild mates about a different kind of toypocalypse for pvp and it would make sense!
It could be with many players playing against each other or with teams (more like a stronghold) but with building. You have to chose a point on a map and start building the toy factory to spawn your toys and walls catapults and so on. Your objective is to destroy the enemy toy factory with your toys, you can use the snowman or the catapult to destroy the defences but the factory must be killed only by the toys.
What do you think about it?
What would you change?

Letter to Tixx

Dear Tixx,
I have been a really good Necromancer this year, I always help others and respect every race no matter the height, the leaves, the horns or the stubbornness.
My wish this Winterday is for the Destroyer Scythe staff skin to come back maybe on the black lion tp, it would really warm my heart to wield it once again after more than 230 years.

Merry Wintersday Tixx,
Dante the Litch former Dervish

Dear Santa,
I created in Gw2 my dervish that I had in Gw1 but here as a Necro. When I saw the Scythe skins I was so happy about it, finally my character could be a dervish again but the Destroyer scythe is not available anymore and the Scythe Staff Skin is too expensive on the trading post for me. I’m trying to save moneys but I think I will not be able to reach that amount anytime soon.
I know it’s a big one but I would be so happy to receive a Scythe Staff Skin.

Thanks!

Myself Dantert.1803 , I offer pizza and other stuff to my (random)team mates when we win in Pvp
Also I would like to nominate Sibyl.6824, she is really, really into the lore, last time me and my guild mates were waiting for her to chose a piece of armor at the end of a mission, after an hour she was still arguing about why one was more in the mindset of her asura and more appropriate to the story of the race itself.

Love the idea of this post, even if I don’t get the gifts XD . So bad to lose nice people. Wish you the best

It’s been several times now that, when in PVP I put a dragonhunter in downed state it comes back up in like 5 seconds without replenish the downed bar, how can that be? I couldn’t find any player to explain why this happens, but I’m sure of what I’ve seen!
I’ve never experienced it before and I never had this problem with any downed guardian before the elite specializations.
I know there’s an ability like that on the warrior and at first, not being a guardian player, I thought it was something about the elite spec but I waited for the possible effect to expire, killed one of them again and here he is back up when his downed bar is 1/4 full.
Someone knows something about this? Maybe it’s a bug? Maybe cheaters?

Can we bring party to wintersday? Please?

Will we be allowd to enter as a party into the wintersday activities? Like snowball mayem or Tixx’s Infinirarium toypocalypse? Because the other times was a pain in the butt to manage to get all 5 people in the same instance, always having to log in at the same time or redo. I want to focus on enjoying the game instead of hoping to have all my party in the same game and feel bad for quitting if they are not in.
Please?
