MK gives you a better chance. And given that the Labyrinth chests are only lootable once a day, you might as well get those then spend the day with the MK.

The diminishing returns does not apply to the chest.

The diminishing returns are on the quests rewards (ToT bags, XP, etc..), and doesn’t apply to the chest.

I got my best items (including Arachnophobia) on the later run throughs (I’ve done several of them), and have only run one of my toons.

I’ve seen toons in the teens get awesome drops while 80’s get garbage. Alts shouldn’t make a difference.

Well, after all that hype up, i would expect something unique from the mad king, could be something such as a skin ( nothing expensive, even soulbound W/E) or parts of a unique looking set ( that you could complete by redoing the place) or anything like that,

Ummm… you mean the three weapon skins? They drop there (in the form of exotics, but they’re there). Unique looking set? Well there is the Mad King armor set you can get… but whatever.

They’ll probably be gone. But in less than 2 months we’ll have the Christmas events… so it won’t be a long wait.

Seems to be random. In a group, sometimes you get stuck playing Mad King Says, sometimes you don’t. Sometimes only a part of the party has to do it. Even if everybody has already run it a few times.

Do it as a group. ;-)

The Spicy Pumpkin Cookies will still sell post event. Same stats as Cup of Lotus Fries, but with a 45min timer instead of 30.

I just used the tonics and boosters I happened to have saved. Made 22 Mad King Chests, I got Recipe: Gift of Spiders, Recipe: Gift of Moon, and a ton of event crafting mats. I didn’t think it was so bad. :shrug:

The Spicy Pumpkin Cookie does have the advantage that it gives you a 45 minute buff vs the Lotus Fries 30 minutes. And they’re made in batches of 5 each. Depending on the availability of cloves, it can be a better deal.

The Mad King costume is pay to win. If you buy it you become OP in costume brawl. Why do I say this? People with the Mad King costume now are placing food tables at hard to reach areas and just sniping everything in the area, they usually have 10+ brawl master because it’s too hard to reach them and they just fear you off the ledge or whatever if you do.

The flaw in your logic is you going for the cauldron in a hard to reach area. Grab one from an easier area (after all, they are everywhere). If you keep going up the same bottleneck so the same sniper can hit you every time… well that’s just your own fault. If you know there’s an alligator in the pool, don’t dive in the pool.

Give 10 candy corn to any of the costumed kids running around LA and you get a ToT bag. 9 times out of 10 you get 6 candy back in the bag, so it’s a net loss of 4 candy in hopes of something else.

Debate semantics all you wish. ANet promoted the event specifically to get players hyped up for it. It should be no surprise when they hype leads to frustration when it doesn’t happen when anticipated.

When marketing advertises the 22nd, then there’s a reasonable assumption that anybody playing during the day of the 22nd would see the update, and not have to wait until sometime in the evening.

And assuming they base it off Pacific time, then the process for the update should have been planned to begin before Midnight PDT the night before. If it’s Midnight PDT tonight, then it will be going live on Oct 23rd PDT.

The cores are used to craft a few different Major Runes/Sigils. I usually get 1 or 2 each time I run Sorrow’s Embrace. But I rarely run that dungeon because I’m not a fan of the items you get from its tokens.

I always have a lot more Gossamer than Orichalcum. Dunno where you get the impression metal professions can “easily go and mine orichalcum”, since the nodes are really sparse and have a really long respawn.

I salvaged 4 rares last night and got only 2 ectos. Used the Black Lion Salvage kit. 30 Silver from ectos. If I sold the rares for 15S each, that would have been 60S. Kitten salvaging. Sell rares on TP.

Yes, but on the flip side, you sometimes get 3 ectos out of a rare. Salvage 1 rare and you can sell 3 ectos.

IMHO, It’s not really a gold sink so much as it’s a mechanic to deter players from leveling their toons to 80 predominately through crafting and little to no adventuring.

It’s not an item. It’s an Elite Skill in your Slot Skills window. You just can’t see it because you haven’t purchased skills down to the elite level yet. It unlocks if you purchase the digital deluxe. There’s nothing to mail.

Wouldn’t you feel completely discouraged having received 0 reward, token or otherwise, for the amount of effort you invested just because you weren’t there at the moment the final boss was defeated? Time is a very valuable thing to people and they want to feel as though it was well spent.

Hence the reason I also stated...

After all, how many times have you had a random event reward you that you had no idea you had participated in? Usually because you didn’t notice that you tagged an event creature while running across a zone.

Tokens should accrue based on how many Mini Bosses you were present for, but not awarded until final boss is killed. 3 mini bosses? Then each mini should be worth 20. This would discourage kicking players just to get a guildie in for the final boss, because the new player would receive zero reward.

And should somebody still be kicked in the same manner, after the final boss is killed, they should still get some kind of compensation. After all, how many times have you had a random event reward you that you had no idea you had participated in? Usually because you didn’t notice that you tagged an event creature while running across a zone.

I have actually done better than usual today getting ectos.

I leveled all the way through to 400 without any Vanilla Beans.

That being said… I never have a shortage of Vanilla Beans to make Omnomberry Bars if I make it a point to spend a little (and I mean little) time in Sparkfly Fen.

Also given that the Omnomberry Bar recipe creates two (2) bars, it’s still easy to make your money back by selling the bars on the TP. I always make enough to last my toons for a while, maybe some for the guild if they need, and anything left over I just sell at the TP and never find myself losing money.

Oh, and for the record… in my experience, most people prefer the Tarts or Lotus Fries for the Power or Condition Dmg with the MF. Some prefer the bars at first, but eventually go with the boost in damage. Which don’t require Vanilla Beans.

You’re warned that it’s expensive on Karma, not that you’ll be paying out the nose with coin.

I prefer Midnight Sky on my leather armor. Looks black with a cobalt tint.

As a lot more people have reached lvl 80, many of them are now focusing on their crafting skills. The demand has simply skyrocketed.
