Why does Anet keep making things easier? If things are easy, nobody spends time doing them. If you are going to put forth the effort to make content and spend manhours on it, make it worthwhile. Make it something that people will play more than once, not solely because of drops, but because it is inherently difficult and fun. Also, I don’t mean the difficult by adding more HP and damage to the boss. That’s simply annoying and encourages a gear based play style rather than one based on positioning and actually making use of the dodge mechanic.

And for the people who need these chatbox ques, don’t ever play a game like Monster Hunter.

GW1 was completely soloable. GW2 should be as well.

I say a hearty “Nay!” to grouped content. This isn’t 2004. It’s time MMOs moved on.

go play a single player game if you don’t like playing with others

You think in such small terms.

There are people who enjoy seeing other players in the game world but do not enjoy grouping with them. I am one such gamer and there are a great many others like me.

‘MMO’ and ‘Online’ do not automatically mean you are expected to group with others. Go see the first ‘Guild Wars’ for more information.

And you could solo what required 12 man groups in GW1? Tell me more.

to anyone who uses the excuse “play a single play game”, i have a few pointers that shows how wrong this excuse is.
1.) MMORPG means massive multiplayer online role playing game, nothing tells anyone that you need to group with ppl.
2.) if you have not noticed, there are only a few singleplayer games that have an open world and you have to like them to, not to mention that most of them (not all) take even more money to play and it doesn’t exactly let you play with friends.
3.) the reason why we’re noting playing a different game is because we’re playing guild wars 2, it’s utterly ridicules to shoot someone off just because it’s a solo player.

so if you think a solo player should not play an MMO at all then i ask you this, how does that benefit the player and how do you think this MMO has survived up until now?

The part that says Multiplayer says you do have to play other people. When you select multiplayer on any game you are going to play with other people and be placed in teams with those people.

You complain about not being able to solo things, yet, you complain you can’t play with friends in single player games. You are contradicting yourself.

How does what not benefit the player? Not playing an MMO? It means you get to play a game you enjoy rather than affecting the player base a whole which plays MMO’s for the social experience not the solo experience.

How has this MMO has survived? By people playing it. Are you implying everyone bought a multiplayer game to play by themselves?

There are many games that are single player that have an open world. Whether you know about them or not, there are several. They aren’t advertised in every corner of the world because they aren’t as popular as a genre.

You chose to play a Massive Multiplayer Online RPG. The multiplayer means there are going to be many if not all parts of the game where you need to interact with people and be in groups. In any game whatsoever, when you press the multiplayer button, it takes you to play with other people. How does multiplayer not imply playing with people?

What you are complaining for, affects the entire community. The small amount of people complaining that they can’t play solo in a MMO is greatly outweighed by those that are happy with the way the game is. People buy MMO’s to play with other people. Yeah, some parts can be solo’d, but everything is done better and more efficiently in a group if not require you to be in a group.

Also, for those saying that they are being blocked by this, Living story is nothing more than something for gear and achievements. This does not block you in anyway from playing the main game. It is a side option just like in GW1 there were side missions like UW, Urgoz’s, FoW, etc… None of this was required for you to do. Living story is a side chain. Nothing more than just skins and achievements.

Guild Wars 2 has done many things to make it very much ‘’Player Friendly Environement’’ But still stayed with the old system for dungeon… which is party based.

There is a system in place, that can a scale up and down system for their events mob/boss, so why is there none for their dungeon ?

SAB was doable solo because it’s not really a dungeon.

Molten Facility would lose its grandness if I could just walk in and faceroll everything. I’m not exactly Solid Snake in this strange thing called a MMO.

Did you try SOB ? You know then it was written as joke i hope ‘’ Recommended 5 Players’’

You been missing the whole point, good for you if you like a big challenge or to party with a big group. Never thinking about those who doesnt. Selfish much ?

And stop trying to kiss Anet kitten lol like many other players that does

I think you are looking for a single player game. I’m sorry if haven’t grasped it yet, but this IS an MMORPG. It’s a social game. Solo runs aren’t social.

Also, in terms of having dungeons soloable, that makes group play boring. You end up facerolling dungeons if they are meant for solo play.

Again, this genre isn’t for solo play. This game is for group play.

For example, if enough of X faction was not defeated, or X objective was not completed enough, a different story line would follow rather than the “winning” one? Would really make for a more community driven story line where people feel the have a hand in how the world around them is shaped. Of course there are pros and cons to this but I’ve got faith in this. Thoughts?

So we press 2 to defeat Zhaitan, then wait for more content or grind your crafting levels or grind gear (which you said wasn’t going to happen)?

“Eric: The only Elder Dragon that players encounter in Guild Wars 2 is Zhaitan”.

So what’s it going to be, buy “GW2: (Insert Elder Dragon name here) Expansion” rather than continents for expansions like GW1? I need a little feedback here before I continue to invest more time into this game.

How exactly do waypoints make the game feel instanced? That doesn’t make any sense to me. An instance is defined quite obviously as a separate instance of the game world for each group that accesses it. This is quite clearly not the case with this game. Unless you think loading screens equate to instances? Which is a very weird way of looking at it.

How can you say “there is no penalty for dying” and then you explain exactly what the penalty for dying is? I’ve been in instance runs where people played stupid and died repeatedly, and I’ve been in instance runs where people played intelligently and didn’t die. If you think there’s no difference, you’re delusional. The reward is completing the dungeon in a quarter of the time it takes for “corpse running” groups.

If people are content being in groups that just corpse run all the trash and bosses, good for them. I’ll continue getting better at the game with my friends who are also getting better at the game and we’ll complete dungeons faster, way more efficiently, and way more cost-effectively.

The problem is that they will still get what you have. It may not be the same day, or the same week, but they will eventually all get it. Then what makes it special? Why spend your time studying for a test if you are going to get an A on it anyways? As for finishing it quicker than a corpse run group, the amount of time you spend avoiding death closes the margin between a corpse run group and a decent group.

If you do no die in a dungeon then why do this matter to you? You are going to receive the same rewards, if not challenge you a little bit more.

I disagree zydal.

Awful idea. Waypoints are what makes the travel in the game work. To take them out and force all non-80s to literally run everywhere would be a completely terrible idea. I would be pretty angry if this ever happened.

Waypointing everywhere makes the game feel instanced. It does not make the game very fluid. If you were a GW veteran, you would be familiar with running builds. In fact, it would be more viable to do this because you can easily switch builds anywhere in the game as long as you are not in combat. For example: my guildmate plays warrior. He lays down 3 banners, we pick them up and speed boost each other and just run to where ever we need to go in an unexplored map. It’s sometimes faster and always more fun than just waiting at a loading screen.

Again, awful idea. There’s already a penalty for dying, why do you need to add incentive to staying alive? Do you believe that people aren’t actually attempting to stay alive? This idea would promote people screwing people over that they’re running a dungeon with. I’ve only run a handful of dungeons, but it’s easy to see that at times, the person dying the most is contributing the most to the success of the group.

There is no penalty for dieing. You simply start to lose armor pieces. That is a marginal penalty compared to what you get from completing the dungeon. I have even provided you with a way in which repairs can even bee minimalized (simply running with weapons and no armor). Corpse Running is not fun. This is supposed to be a dungeon not another regular area in the game. It is supposed to be a switch of pace that challenges what lessons you have learned throughout the rest of the game, not another learning phase. It is like going to take a test where you do not get penalized for getting an answer wrong, just how many times you end up going back to change your answer and caps at 16 tries within the same test. And as long as you complete the test, you still get an A. That does not test your adeptness in the subject of the test. Same as the dungeons do not test your adeptness to the game.

In fact even if death count does not feel right as you have pointed out a decent point, there are other ways.

- Timed rewards. Gold reward = “near perfect time here” Silver reward = “decent time here” Bronze = " everything else". Same chest rewards system as my OP.

- Bonus Events. Gold = 2 bonus events Silver = 1 bonus event. Make the Bonus events a boss which automatically regens to full HP when he is not being agro’d ( when the entire team dies for example and is respawning). This keeps it from being a corpse run. You aren’t throwing yourself against the wall countless times until you finally break it.

You did away with the working system you had in Guild Wars. Rather than improving upon it, you have scrapped it, and tried something completely different when everyone was expecting Guild Wars 2 not SuperCoolMMO2.

My issues which are mostly commonly shared by the community

To start this off, you have clearly increased the difficulty of the explorable dungeons. What I want to know is, why? The problem was not that the enemies were too easy. That was not the case. What is the problem, is that you can very easily run a dungeon using no skill at all by “Corpse Running”. You couldn’t do this in Guild Wars. Why did you change the working system you had before? This also applies to the PvE game in general as well.

Making all enemies into champion versions of themselves does not make it fun. It does not make it interesting, it does not make it more enticing to fight. It just makes it very annoying and displeasing to play the game. (Take note that while you may not have done this yet, this is the road you are heading down). If you want to add difficulty add incentives to stay alive, have the least amount of deaths possible, and be more tactical about how you take down enemies. Armor repairs are not a deterrent. You can just as easily skip a few steps of the corpse run and just remove your armor from the beginning and start with just your weapons and only repair those.

What happened to resurrection shrines and not waypoints? Being able to teleport around the entire map does not make the game more expansive. It is WORSE than having mounts. You see absolutely nothing but a loading screen vs when you use a mount you at least see the scenery passing by you and possibly an event or two you may want to stop and do on your way to your destination. Having waypoints really makes the game feel like its more segmented into areas around waypoints rather than a full map. This kills the immersion factor by a lot. There is no adventuring, just teleporting to waypoints. The only real adventure is the first time around. In which case, you just added another blow to endgame.

Also, before you even do this I might as well point this out to you that it is not going to work. Adding more hp to the dragons will not make them more fun. They will just become a little more annoying to kill and still require little to no skill from any class as all classes have ranged weapons which they can use to auto-attack the boss from outside of the dragon’s range. It is absolutely ridiculously easy to take one of these things down. You could easily just AFK your character, leaving it at range auto-attacking until you hear the event finish then come back and reap your rewards. This is not fun. Never was, never will be. It’s boring. At this point the only reason I play is to PvP, which still doesn’t have a ranking system so I’m not finding myself compelled to play anymore than to just experiment with a couple builds then do something else with my time.

My ideas on how to fix it.

- The only waypoints that should exist are those that take you to a city. Add mounts to the cash shop just to make people stop crying about it; this will even bump your revenue. As for those who do not want to buy them through the cash shop, add areas in the game where you can get mounts, but have them extremely difficult to get to and level80 to use them.

- You also need to add incentives to staying alive during a dungeon like you tier DE’s. Gold for 0-1 death, Silver for 2-3 deaths, bronze for 4+. Adjust the chests accordingly, Gold gets the intended chest, Silver gets the splendid, bronze gets the plain chest. It is not that difficult. Making all enemies into champion versions of themselves =/= fun.

- Lastly, add more ranged attacks to the world bosses. More random AoE’s, more areas that are affected by it’s attacks, make them bite as much as they bark. Make there be no place a safe place to sit back, relax, and afk.

DistantStatic.6098

There is no need for skill in PvE for this game. I can go through a dungeon, worst group of life, just bum rushing everything, die hundreds of times, and still get the same reward as someone who tried extremely hard and died no times at all. Armor repairs aren’t even a deterrent, you can just not repair your armor and just keep killing one thing at a time before you die. the same goes for quests.

There needs to be a limit to how many times you die in a quest or dungeon because at this point you might as well just hand people the chest. They’re going to get it eventually.

Even if it is not a limit on death’s, just something that actually requires you to work for it.

Well whats the point of the mission being anything more than cinematics? Why not it be that if you die, the mission is over? There’s other ways of going about it. Such as maintaining an area under your control for a certain amount of time. If it isn’t yours then you fail the mission. I mean there has to be some kind of way to lose or it’s just not fun. You are just mindlessly throwing yourself at the enemy until they are dead.

Endgame... Reimagined? What?

DistantStatic.6098

It is quite easy to add difficulty to the game.

Force people to dodge——-

It is very rare for people to actually have to dodge anything for most bosses. Just have some melee people keeping the bosses attention while all the ranged people just auto attack. This is worsened by the fact that even melee based characters can go ranged to make it even easier on them to keep DPs on bosses while kiting them.

A very good example of a well made difficult boss fight for the level it is at, is the Fire Elemental in the Asuran area. So much dodging is needed to be done to even stay alive. It is a challenging boss for the area that it is in. One would think that the rest of the bosses will be just as difficult with many AoE’s to dodge and keep you on your toes. But it is quite the opposite. You end up seeing things like the Shadow Behemoth in the human 1-15 area (Queensdale) which is ridiculously easy to defeat. You only have 2 attack you need to be worried about, and kill the underworld portals which go down in no time with around 10-15 people and only 6-7 of them actually bothering to kill the portals.

The elemental hand in the Hirathi Hinterlands that the Centaur leader spawns is a JOKE. It does not even fully form before it is destroyed. What is that? It’s supposed to be more difficult than the rock dogs he spawns but it goes down exponentially faster than they do. It is no comparison!

It is undoubtedly obvious that the game needs to be harder. The bosses need to have bigger AoE attacks, more ranged attacks to keep ranged characters moving and not just auto attacking, more movement, more things to keep an eye on. I’d prefer to have this fixed so we can actually have more fun with the current batch of content we have right now rather than getting more bland content.

Please Anet, take this into consideration at the very least. They game is on Easy mode. Up it to Expert after level 80 at least….

TL;DR: The game has a lot of bark but not enough bite. The difficulty when fighting a boss needs to match the intense atmosphere that it creates. If not, why not just watch a movie or a gameplay video?

Expansions and such

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DistantStatic.6098

A few quick questions…

- What will the expansions consist of? (i.e. small explorable areas or actual continents)

- Are the difficulty of the bosses in general going to be increased? All that they are right now (except for a few like the fire elemental in the Asuran area) is just as easy as the Shadow Behemoth which is just a joke. There is almost no dodging involved; just avoid some simple attacks, kill portals, auto attack the boss and inflict conditions.

- When will the other areas of Kryta be explorable (i.e. Isles of Janthir, Magus Falls, Unending Ocean, the tengu city, etc..) ? Or are they going to be the expansions?

I would just like to state before hand that if the expansion packs we have to pay for are these little rectangular squares of areas, I will not be pleased and will not be buying them. It’s just ridiculous. Continent expansions as such that Guild Wars 1 had, I will gladly shell out cash for, especially Cantha. I grew up on Guild Wars Factions. I got that when I was in middle school 9 years ago.

A couple of questions.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DistantStatic.6098

DistantStatic.6098

I have a couple of questions/issues I’ve come across in the game so far that I have found unsettling and I only wish to address this to the rest of the community to see if they feel the same as the others I have spoken to and myself.

My first issue is the leveling speed. Sure, you can poop-sock your way up to 80 in 3 days, but for the average player it is taking many days to get to that level which is rather far from ideal for some people. Now, comparing this to Guild Wars where the level cap was 20, you could easily get to max level in a good 7 hours or playing at the very least. (*To be clear I am not asking to hit level 80 in 10 hours of play time. *)I just feel that it should be easily done in 30~ hours of play time. Maybe I am remembering incorrectly, but I believe I remember reading the dev’s saying how they did not want to turn this into a grindfest of a game. Yet, in the recent updates where they are nerfing cooking, they have struck yet another blow to grinding speed. It’s is getting to the point where crafting is not very viable for its EXP. Considering we have to spend now a considerably more amount of time grinding I would expect end game to be amazing which leads me to my next issue.

My second issue is directed at the difficulty of the “Big Bosses”. I hear so many complaints about the dragons being too easy, even Zhaitan being able to be AFK’d. Considering that Guild Wars was based completely on end game content this is rather saddening that we will be spending so much time grinding up to level 80 only to be greeted with a lot of big bosses that are all bark and no bite. The most unsettling display of this was watching the shatter dragon be taken down easily in a mere 2~ minutes with many people just standing still barely having to dodge anything. It seems way to easy. Now if memory serves me right, the shatter is not an elder dragon which are supposed to be much harder. This is where Zhaitan being so easy to defeat becomes so unsettling. If that is the epitome of the game, it seems like grinding up to level 80 is just a set up for disappointment. It is quite possible that the journey is the destination but that would mean we just put down the game once we get bored of PvP because there is nothing left to do in PvE.

I also have a question on Guild Halls. Again in Guild Wars it was a big thing. It was like buying real estate. It was a great addition to the game and a great place to hang out and mess around in addition to privately holding PvP matches within their Guild Halls. I read on the wiki that they will be implemented at a later date. My only quarrel is on when that will be. Anyone see anything in relation to that?

Thanks for any information or opinions.
