It’s like some people are shocked to discover there’s more than one timezone. Welcome to the world, folks.

Why GW 2 will not fail

If these don’t occur, and the general public loses interest, it easily could die. NCSoft just shut down City of Heroes and their developer, could happen here as well if interest dies off.

City of Heroes is 8 years old. If Guild Wars 2 is around in 8 years’ time, I think we can consider it a success.

Even The Secret World will keep on going, and that only has about 6 players.

GW2 has already sold millions of copies. Even if hundreds of thousands of people leave, it will still have a strong regular player base, and plenty of the people who stopped playing will probably return for expansions.

Who cares if the player base is not as big as WoWs? I doubt ArenaNet cares; they were even willing to stop selling the game to avoid going over capacity. That’s how many copies it sold. Everything suggests the game has exceeded expectations. It’ll be fine.

People have strange ideas about what constitutes ‘fun’. If jumping on the traditional endgame gear treadmill, doing repetitive tasks for weeks or months on end so you can get an extra +2 to a stat, and then being forced to repeat the process every time an expansion comes out, is what you find ‘fun’, then GW2 probably won’t satisfy you.

Just like in GW1, it does not take a huge effort to get the best stats in this game, and that’s one of things I like most about it. If you consider the game ‘finished’ when you acquire max stat gear, then GW2 will be ‘finished’ quickly for you.

Getting two characters to level 80 in a month suggests you play the game for hours and hours every day. No judgement intended, but I’m happy ArenaNet hasn’t designed the game for people who play for 10 hours every day in the neverending pursuit of minor stat increases.

We’re good at removing conditions on others (cleansing bolts only works on allies), but we’re mediocre at removing conditions on ourselves, and if we do trait to become good at it, we become bad at everything else.

That’s just balance and compromise. If you have a problem with conditions, you trait for condition removal and make compromises elsewhere. Managing conditions is part of playing smart.

I don’t know why people are saying guardians are weak on condition removal. We have Smite Condition on a 20 (or 16) second cooldown, Contemplation of Purity to remove all conditions, we can have two passive condition removals every 10 seconds (signet and Purity trait), we can use Purging Flames and Save Yourselves and the focus and the torch to remove conditions from allies, the Spirit Bow removes conditions, the greatsword symbol + whirl combo removes conditions, all our light fields can be used in combination to remove conditions, we can trait to make our shouts remove conditions, or you can use Runes of the Soldier to make shouts remove conditions (including on allies if your shouts affect them).

What more do you need?

Honest question, why do bots bother people so much? I mean obviously they should be banned, but I don’t see why there’s so much anger about them. Are they killing everything in the area before you can, do they stop you from playing the game somehow? What’s the major issue?

The scepter should be the ranged option (until we get a bow in an expansion, I’m guessing), but it needs some changes. The projectiles are way too slow and need to be sped up somehow. Either much faster projectiles or instant hit like the elementalist scepter. I’d like the #2 skill to be high up-front damage rather than a series of weaker AoE hits. Make it more like the Dragon’s Tooth skill: some beam of light blasts your enemy and does reasonably high damage, but perhaps with an animation lead-in that could be avoided (thereby necessitating the use of the #3 immoblize). Maybe the #3 skill could have the current Smite AoE incorporated into it, so the immobilize also does damage over time to the rooted enemy. Obviously damage would have to be reduced across the board to keep things balanced.

I think those changes would make the scepter more entertaining to use. At the moment it feels very weak, even though the damage is fairly high. Worse, it just feels boring at the moment. Most of the time you’re just firing slow orb after slow orb without much to show for it.

If you look at the video, the guardian blocks about 15-20 times within a few seconds. I’ve seen similar behaviour.

I’ve encountered this against guardians in PvP too. I play a guardian and I can’t see how they’re doing it. A couple of times I’ve done Whirling Wrath against a guardian and seen nothing but blockblockblockblockblock. Maybe a bug or a hack, or there’s something I’m missing.

Some more testing of this would be useful. Try going to the Mists and testing on the dummies there for a while and see if it’s consistent. There’s obviously a big difference in Shield of Absorption for different races, so other skills might be affected too, but I’d like to see more evidence.
