Us Maguumans will never surrender to your “guilty until proven innocent” New WvWvW Order, Teerwik. These colors don’t run buddy.
Reputation is everything? Indeed, I’m desperately interested in what people on other servers think of my guild because… Why again?
Also someone hand waving away your screenshot wouldn’t matter, unbiased people from other servers could see it and make their own decisions. Or you could post more book learnin’ links for us all to enjoy.
And if you think that Maguuma and Ehmry Bay like each other, you’re deluding yourself. Even before each time was scoring points, Ehmry users were remarking negatively about Maguuma and I’m more than sure the same is true for Maguuma. This is a result of, frankly, the last matches with Maguuma and the perceived behaviors of some users representing the whole.
Actually before the reset nobody really had anything bad to say about EB, there was just a general expectation that you wouldn’t be that good because of what happened in the bugged garrison match (which of course you proved wrong) but there’s a natural “server X sucks we’ll roll them” mood then on all servers I imagine. Once the match started rolling there were lots of complaints but it was mainly because you were using tactics we hadn’t seen before and had so many thieves messing up supply lines.
So no, people on Maguuma aren’t getting all hot and bothered about this supposed rivalry. I mean the two servers are in similar situations, our coverage has been inferior in almost every match too so it’s not like we’re under any illusion that our current lead is because we’re a more skilled server.
Well what would you like us to do about it then? Wring our hands and cry about how evil we are? Not only can you not tell anything about these supply invaders, we can’t either. Just as you don’t know what server they were on 24 hours ago, neither do we. All of the people who have played a lot of WvW on Maguuma and tried to co-ordinate to help the server have gotten used to losing so there’s no reason to bother with this kind of behaviour.
That is why nobody from Maguuma is jumping to do some sort of witch hunt within our own ranks: there’s no way to ascertain the guilt of any individual and anyone who could be “investigated” wouldn’t waste their time on this anyway.

@worban The hearsay you’ve picked up about Maguuma from friends or what you personally have witnessed playing the game isn’t really of much solace to anyone, since plenty of people have already invented things about Maguuma (and many other servers) with nothing to back it up. With all the hysteria and accusations flying, talk is cheap but proof is at a premium. In the future stick to that old Internet rule: pics or it didn’t happen.
Regardless the bogus credit card scheme you’ve described sounds perfectly like an exploit, simply because of the methods used to create the accounts and that Anet gets nothing. Rest assured if this is happening they’ll close the exploit extremely fast. Anyway at no point when you’ve brought up this specific thing has it been condoned by anyone. It is clearly distinct from everyone standing in one place at the same time.
Well I don’t really know how you can hope to ascertain the intentions of a bunch of faceless invaders and then judge them accordingly, but that’s up to you. Seems to me that would usually result in servers believing the worst about each other, however we can agree that the real problem is culling.
(edited by DrWhom.3105)
Well the same goes for my post. Some from your server were taking the moral high ground, many have accused us of abusing in game mechanics and I was responding to them. I agree the argument you were referring to falls flat, but what about what I wrote?
I’m pretty sure that is just you. Because I said that a lot of the people who were defending Maguuma’s actions were justifying it by saying all the high tier servers do it… Which is no different than saying all the cool kids do it.
It’s not that higher tier servers are doing it and therefore it’s okay. It’s that this is nothing new and in higher tiers culling is more obvious and rampant, stacking is common and it’s counters known, and there aren’t these cries of foul play (well there are, but not about these things). The fact of the matter is we have to play the game as it is now, hopefully soon culling will be a non-issue and legitimate tactics will no longer inspire guilt by association in the minds of some players. Also if you want to take the moral high ground a 2v1 alliance controlled by the dominant server is an “exploit of game mechanics” as Anet have stated that the 1v1v1 format is intended to help stop one team running away with the score.
Apparently I need to be careful with what I say here, lest infractions get imposed.
On Friday, the Goon squad did this tactic where they stacked on top of each other. As we know, there is an odd rendering issue going on where people will not appear visible even when they’re right next to you. It gets worse when more people in small are involved, allowing large groups of people to not appear at all, or appear in very little numbers.
It gets especially bad when those people stand on top of each other, allowing zergs of people to walk around silently with people taking them for granted.
Since I am not allowed to have an opinion on this matter, that is all I am going to say.
The issue you’re referring to is culling, and it will kick in based on the total number of characters in your area the server is trying to tell you about. If you are fighting an invisible stack, the stack is almost always fighting an invisible you. The stack is just making it more obvious to you just how bad the culling actually is (hence people getting upset when they haven’t seen it before). A detailed explanation of culling from a developer can be found here: http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/11mz4k/i_am_a_programmer_for_guild_wars_2_amaa/c6nv7o2
Hopefully it will be fixed soon so everyone can use their portals and stealths to their hearts content without being labelled dastardly ne’er-do-wells.
If indeed that has been happening I think you and other DH players are unfairly using it to tar the reputation of the entire server. Unless you are suggesting any of the guilds on Maguuma are deliberately orchestrating such a strategy, which is frankly insane.
Lastly, remember that something being “legit” doesn’t mean it isn’t cheap or dishonorable. Being the #1 server that used every legal but underhanded play in the book doesn’t make you good players IMO. It makes you good at cheating the system.
Consider this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Perma-Stealth-During-Combat-Thief-Glitching/first and Enenion’s response. A Thief utilising his stealth skills to full effect is an exploit. Portal bombing a zerg repeatedly is an exploit. Jumping off a wall in force and running back through the door is an exploit.
The problem is culling and it effects everyone. If your zerg can’t see or target an enemy stack they almost certainly can’t see or target you either. Your invisible moral line of what is and isn’t acceptable isn’t really much use, because where is it really? Can I portal bomb your siege twice, but if I do it ten times it’s an exploit? I can take 10 people through but not fifteen? etc etc
Culling effects all aspects of the game. Should we not be able to jump off walls and run back through the door because those attacking the gate beneath won’t be able to see us if enough of us jump off and run back in fast enough? Regardless here’s an Anet response to someone complaining about the portals, complete with culling: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/arenanet-tracker/topic/237860-wvsw-is-unplayable-because-of-mesmer-portal-abuse/
As for the stacking, while all aoe is limited several including certain siege can hit more than five. I’m sure Anet deliberately set the number for each skill and considered how it would affect WvW balance. The system as it is now rewards players who co-ordinate and stick together, sounds working as intended to me.
Thankfully neither my opinion nor yours in the end matters, only the developers can determine what is an exploit and punish people appropriately. Usually I just report people I think are hacking or exploiting and let Anet figure it out, but next time I guess I’ll make an alliance with the weakest server and guarantee mine the win.
@malixor Well the developers have stated that portal bombing is a legit tactic and not an exploit, even if the culling makes it worse than it should be. I don’t see how not taking a keep could be an exploit, even if it did give NSP a scare. If indeed there was hacking done to get inside keeps by Maguuma players, it was certainly a small group of kitten that nobody who plays WvW seriously on Maguuma wants anything to do with (though I’d like you to explain how you ruled out the possibility of a hiding mesmer). Hacking of this type has occurred on almost every server and it comes down to a few bad apples ruining the game for us all.
However if your righteous indignation over their actions requires you to start an alliance or make yourself out to be the defender of morality and fair play on the forums, go ahead. Maguuma has lost every match for weeks so we don’t really care about the score, and I suppose whoever’s green deserves to play the bad guy in the forums drama.

How about we just ask you since you seem to know all about it?
We’re doing it to help you guys, forming a nice concentrated target so the culling doesn’t make things too confusing for you. Better to have fifty invisible people all in one place rather than spread out, right?
Tried this out in WvW last night and had a lot of fun, it’s great just chewing through health bars from max range with impunity. I switched out Concentration for Blink and I was in Berserker gear not Rampager’s but it still works like a charm. Especially hilarious against dagger storming thieves who think they’re invincible.

If you’re after a set and want to do it all with PuGs, then I recommend HotW because every path is pretty kitten easy and you can get your 180 per day with a minimum of frustration. Unfortunately the underwater combat puts some people off, and a lot of players neglect their underwater weapons when upgrading their gear which can make the final bosses in 2 and 3 feel like a slog. Still it’s possible to clear all three with next to no team communication so it’s ideal for PuGs.
The Orr karma vendors don’t have the full soldiers set, only 5 of them.
Wow you’re right, don’t know how I missed that. What on earth were Anet thinking with those Orr karma vendors, really seems half implemented. It’s even crazier since some pieces (chest for light armor as an example) are available from multiple vendors just with different runes. As if having the sets split across multiple vendors wasn’t confusing enough.
Well I have some good news and bad news for you. Power/Vit/Toughness armor is in fact all available from the Orr karma vendors, but not from a single vendor. This page explains where to get the pieces you need.
Now for the bad news. As you already know the WvW armor has those stats, and they also sell jewelry with that distribution. However unlike the armor there is no karma alternative, so if you want a full set of power/vitality/toughness jewelry you must obtain 1980 badges of honor. To make matters even worse, for that price the jewelry doesn’t even come with a matching exotic jewel already slotted. In fact you can’t even buy those jewels with more badges, so there’s currently no way to obtain power/vit/toughness exotic jewels.
This is all pretty ridiculous considering the drop rate on badges in WvW, though I think that or the prices of the gear may be reduced in the future to be more in line with the dungeon armor costs. Currently Invader armor is by far the most “prestigious” armor in the game, which seems pretty stupid considering the fairly bland skins. Regardless, the stuff you’re after is horrendously overpriced and isn’t available exactly how I imagine you want it.
So yeah skip the jewelry for now, the emerald stuff is toughness/power/precision and is a decent substitute. You can see the recipes for all the exotic jewelry here.
