Looking around the WvW boards, it looks like the only server that’s not having population changes this week is Dragonbrand. Kinda odd for us, really, given our history.
Sorry to hijack thread but WHY are corrupted Lodestones going up in price? I remember buying them for 1g25s last month, then it dropped to under 1g for wintersday and now its over 1g50s. Any insight? I was thinking of getting a Corrupted Axe to match my Jormag’s Breath but not at that price, lol.
They nerfed the loot drops from the Claw of Jormag event. I think they also nerfed the drop rate at the main farming locations in Frostgorge, but I can’t really confirm that.
Please consider Dragonbrand! We have a strong Oceanic presence, little to no drama, an excellent community, mumble, and it is still relatively easy to get in. I’ve been on a few other Worlds, and I haven’t seen a community as great as Dragonbrand!
And we have the best score updates in the WvW threads from Eva here
I think Dragonbrand should go into next week with the mindset that we will fight like hell, because we are well past any “easy mode” fights. Going in with the mindset we will lose is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Expecting to win is setting us up for disappointment.
We have a tough fight next week, no matter who our opponents are. This does not mean we are going to lose. It means we are going to have a tough fight.

The vast majority of people complaining about precursors do not want obtaining them to be easier. They want it to be more reliable. Currently your only options are to pray to the RNG gods for Zommoros to not be a total tool, to try every orr temple and dragon event ad-nausem hoping to get one out of their usually pathetic rewards, or to try and farm up an ever-increasing amount of gold to buy it from someone who was lucky.
Two of the options are completely based on an extremely low RNG and the third is partially as well. It’s nice (and a good amount of work) to be able to farm 5 gold a day, but when what you are trying to get has the price increase 6 or 7 gold a day, you are never going to obtain it.
Players going for legendaries knew when they started that it would be a long road, but at least they knew where it ended. What they didn’t anticipate was the detour called a precursor that kept changing what path it took every 30 seconds. All that they ask is that the detour have an option that is constant, even if it is a long one.

Fort Aspenwood just gave me bad memories. My guild was Luxon: the side that was biased against in every from of faction vs faction format (only Luxon turtle and not Kurzick Juggernaut would bug in Jade Quarry, capture points were closer to Kurzick spawn in the supposedly neutral AB map). Fort Aspenwood was horribly balanced for a PvP mode. Luxons had to have a perfect team comp to win (they would still have diffuclty) and Kurzicks could win with just about anything (including the nigh unbeatable all healers).
Yeah, no offense, but because of the name, I will never go to Fort Aspenwood.
I think the best thing ANet could do would be to wait until Ascended items of every type are released, then make crafting professions max out at 450 or so with Ascended items being able to be crafted there (in the same patch as the last group of ascended items). If they don’t expand crafting disciplines, they are stuck with a dillema: make liars of themselves because crafting can no longer get you the best gear (one of their stated goals with crafting) or have an entire category of items that are pointless to craft (exotics).
The wait is simply to make it fair across all professions. That way all are boosted simultaneously.
The one sticking point is the experience issue, especially with discovery. By now, most level 400 crafters have discovered most or all of the recipes, so they are looking at a very expensive grind to get to a theoretical level 450.
Watch out! Based on what I know from fighting against DB last week (hello I’m with Yak), when Maguuma moves up in your tire I think they will beat you. We are getting our kitten kicked pretty bad right now… (>_<)
Both CD and FA are pretty tough and shouldn’t be underestimated. It’s going to be an interesting match.
You sound like one of us last Friday. Now look at this score… This is as of now. DB never beat us like this. We had good matches with DB, but with Maguuma…
While definitely impressive, our last matchup with you was also a blowout and we didn’t have one server that was just non-existant like I have heard IoJ is this week.
Yes, Maguuma is definitely not a force to be taken lightly. However, I don’t believe this matchup is truly representative of their strength either.
I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t be a Corruption skill, other than the fact that one of our heals can already have reduced cooldown – Well of Blood. Still, the theme of corruption spells sort of fits the heal. I also think that Plague Form should be a corruption skill
Blood Fiend also has a Cooldown reduction trait.
All the other necromancer healing abilities have a type, why doesn’t consume conditions?
Hehe.
Because chopping 5 seconds off the cooldown for the builds that make the most of it would be OP? It’s already arguably the best self-heal in the game.
It’s perfectly possible to reflect the shortbow attack or interrupt him, but the Powersuit gets Stability when doing his, so it’s impossible to stop.
Not quite, you just need a necro with Corrupt Boon. Stability converts to fear.
6) need more reason to kill the crystals. My group isn’t what I’d call “great” or even well specced (I still havent got full exotics [guardian] and our warrior hasnt been running level 80 gear – we are both saving tokens
, but we just DPS him and ignore the crystals 100%. (maybe damage him if you destroy a crystal near him?) Honestly; since we just DPS him I’m not even sure what the direct relationship is between his heals and the crystal.
The one thing they can’t do is make it necessary to kill the crystals and keep the spawn rate the same. As it is now, by the time you kill the crystals, he’s already spawned them back. Giving them incentive to be destroyed, but not necessity, is the way to go, I feel.
Since I’ve been working toward Frostfang, I’ve been gathering corrupted and glacial lodestones as much as possible, but I’ve run into a problem: the glacial lodestones.
Given their price on the trading post (about 50 silver), they must be fairly common in comparison to the others. Yet I have had more charged lodestones drop from a random pass through Malchor’s Leap than I have had Glacials. In fact, I have never had a glacial lodestone drop from anywhere (chests, loot, mystic clover “failures”, etc.) I have twelve total right now, ten of which I bought off the TP and the other two were core promotion (half of the cores were given to me by guildies).
Since I am obviously missing something, is there a farming location for these?
DB, I’d like to thank you for taking control of the JP and then waiting until AFTER I had grabbed the chest and done the /cheer to kill me. I’m glad you let me finish it before killing me.
While I wasn’t a part of it, what can I say? We know you just want badges. Problem for your repair bill is that so do we.
You get mixed reactions, really. In my experience, Dragonbrand lets people go and mind their own business in the JP just fine.
Until somebody decides not to be so considerate. Then everything red gets attacked. It’s not uncommon for DB to set up shop at the top of the domed room when that happens.
well, the Weakness plague gets used on dredge, but otherwise I’m like you: all blind spam.
Spectral Armor
I never use it. Spectral Walk shares its “gain life force when hit” ability, lasts longer, has the same stun break, has great utility, a much longer duration boon, and has a shorter cooldown. Why would I ever use Spectral Armor?
Bone Fiend I think I’ve seen Rigor Mortis work once. Half the time the bone fiend follows me into melee range. Terrible surviability on a minion that really doesn’t do much damage and is unreliable as hell on the active. Doesn’t make it onto my skill bar.
Spectral Wall
This skill is pretty good on paper, but it just doesn’t work outside of certain situations. I swear, my allies actively avoid this wall unless I position it so they are forced to run through it.
I can guarantee I’ve been successful in fearing the bosses. I use it to interrupt channeled abilities (like Acrhdiviner’s well-spam) and those abilities get interrupted just fine and he walks directly away from me.
I have no idea what’s going on with you, but it works perfectly for me.
*is late to the party
To CD, I wouldn’t get too down about being reduced to 0 PPT for a brief time. If it makes you guys feel any better, Dragonbrand did that to two servers simultaneously a couple weeks ago. While I thought it really cool seeing the whole map one color, I did feel bad for the two servers. Darkhaven especially since they had a guild exodus that week and we got some of their bigger guilds (Krew comes to mind).
You guys rebounded significantly faster than they did and against tougher opponents.
Jade Maw targetting the horror is not a detriment to your team, unlike the ones that are getting fixed. You may not like it, but it in no way hurts your team.
I fear those bosses you just listed with regularity (save power suit, since I’m usually running up top and avoiding combat). Only thing I can suggest is that someone else is CCing the boss at about the same time you are, so your fear gets eaten by the new stack of defiant.
It might also be possible that you had another mob targetted (we all know how easily the client changes targets on you) and feared that one instead.
pls inform yourself better next time… WoR has a 1 sec casttime… and its lastingtime is 10 and 12,5 (traited)
Wall of Reflection has no cast time, but it does have an aftercast delay, much like Corrupt Boon. Please make sure you know the details you are attempting to correct someone else on.
Oh, I’m not saying it’s anywhere close to perfect (or even really acceptable), just saying two of the issues people mention are no longer issues.
First off you just have to hit 2 once so you dont have to keep spamming 2, although if it makes you feel better feel free todo so because it will pulse every second on its own. Secondly it will hit randomly up to 5 targets in the ring each pulse it does for the duration of the elite.
There is a bit of expansion required here. If you have a target selected, Plague will always pulse on that target (if in range). This is true of any AoE in my experience.
Second, AoE seems to prioritize those closer to the center of the effect.
@gamefreak: keeping you in combat was fixed a couple patches ago, so 2 is no longer an issue. This coming patch, they are fixing Lupicus and Alpha to not target pets or NPC’s, so again, that will no longer be an issue.
Bosses ignore Blind because Unshakeable makes Blind only effective 10% of the time. This is on the buff’s tooltip.
Some bosses are simply immune to fear. Any massive ones (like Lupicus) and Unstoppable, plus any with stability.
As for the bosses in fractals, I have never had any issue with fear not working, even after the change with defiant. Which boss was it? Some of them give themselves short-duration stability while the grawl shaman has unstrippable stability.
A build with 30 points in spite, 2 lyssa, 2 mad king runes and Master of Terror will double fear durations. It’s not cheap (roughly 6-8 gold for the runes alone), but it will answer your question.
Now, to the [Lime] guild camping the JP in DBBL. Next time you decide to dance on somebody’s corpse, you may want to try doing it to someone that didn’t kill you while on the wrong end of a 1v2. Then it’s actually a taunt instead of “I had my friends to res my dead body after they finally managed to finish you off.”
I’m surprised anyone was camping it. We don’t field that many people and saying we camp the JP is funny to me actually.
But it could’ve happened. Also, what are you doing just sitting there looking at people? Why not wp back, I never get tea bagged or danced on because if I die I say oh well, wp and done deal.
Well, since there were 6 of them sitting right at the entrance for a good ten minutes (quite possibly longer, but I stopped coming by to check), I would say you had some guildies camping there.
Why I didn’t waypoint? It was my own borderlands and I knew there were other dragonbranders in the puzzle that would be that way (I was right in front of the vault door). I waypointed out when I saw a pair come up and run right by. Never thought my own allies would be that inconsiderate.
I have to go with Fort Aspenwood as more likely. With the new transfers, they are a VERY strong server right now.
Maguuma reportedly has gotten some transfers themselves, but they will still have to beat Dragonbrand and Crystal Desert to get to T2 (neither of which are anywhere close to pushovers). FA is much closer to start with and has a pretty strong case at this point.
Um, no.
Besides, if FA ever faced collusion like this, well… even Obi kittenenobi couldn’t help.
Just had to quote what this turned out as. Didn’t expect the filter to do that bit.
The EB jumping puzzle as of about an hour ago was surprisingly neutral. Lots of folks from FA and CD in there, but nobody was fighting. Everyone was just minding their own buisness.
Just a note, but there is no rounding with condition duration. The tooltip gets rounded down, but the actual duration does not.
Can we get a score update for those of us trapped at work for the next sevral hours?
Only a necro would say “It’s okay guys, I got this” and BASE jump with no parachute.
Hello?!?! You never heard of Crystal Dragonbrand? :P
It would be Crystalbrand, or Dragon Desert… both sound kinda weird.
Crystal Dragon
Why not just “Glint?”
No, but that’s primarily because Master of Terror is only a 50% increase, so the 1 second fear would only become 1.5 seconds.
I don’t know for sure if it does apply to racial elites or not. I would assume so.
That was a neat trick breaking into SMC without even downing a gate DB..
Let’s see, about two hours ago…
No gate down, but our trebs made a pretty nice hole to walk through.
They are from heart merchants in Wayfarer Foothills.
our heals scale crappy with healing power, and life syphoning isnt affected by it at all so i wouldnt really bother. Id rather have some extra vit and have DS absorb all the serious damage. Much more effective imo.
Not quite true. Taste of Death, Consume Conditions, and Well of Blood all have a 1:1 ratio on the base heal with healing power. Consume Conditions has a further ratio of .1 healing power per condition and Well of Blood has a .4 ratio per pulse (total ratio of 5 healing per point of healing power for full duration)
That said, life-siphoning traits don’t scale with it and regen is rather pathetic ratio.
Epidemic is rather nice for turning a mesmer’s clones against him. Only way to do that, so far as I know, actually.
Just throwing this out there, but isn’t Oceanic our strongest contingent right now? We usually have ques during that time.
How about Final Rest staff? It may not be a legendary weapon but it is a legend.
More like a myth, really…
Condition builds really don’t care about the self-imposed weakness.
In WvW and PvP, it is way too situational to usually equip on your skill bar. Best place to use it is against a tower lord, since the circle they stand in is roughly the same size as the Cloud, ensuring that the Lord and all of his bodyguards are poisoned and weakened to make it easier to kill (as well as any enemy players hanging around there trying to stop you).
In PvE, the best use is against bosses, especially the more stationary ones (Bloomhunger and Old Tom come to mind in fractals).
The self-imposed Weakness is barely a detriment to condition/crit builds and it usually either gets transferred or used for extra healing (just like the vulnerability on Epidemic).
It has its uses, but it isn’t one for solo roaming.
(edited by Drarnor Kunoram.5180)
On-crit sigils will only ever proc one at a time, share a cooldown, and multiply chances together for proccing. For two different on-crit sigils, the main hand is prioritized and only if that one does not proc will the off-hand be checked.
In the case of two Sigils of Rage, you would end up with a 19% ((1-10%)-10%) chance to gain quickness on a crit on a 45 second cooldown.
I never have an issue running minions underwater, since there they lack the pathing issues and, unlike most of our utilities, they work just fine underwater.
Besides, not many other classes can solo fight hostile players, quaggans, and krait simultaneously underwater and win. I’ve done this multiple times, and all but the most recent time have been without many exotics or any ascended gear.
I personally feel that skipping is fine. I don’t do it often, but it really isn’t a big deal.
Except in some locations. Arah path 3 after you beat the first pair of bosses, you basically have to skip. Way too many high-powered mobs in a small area. It was probably intended that players run through there. Yes, you can fight your way through, but that section alone will at least double your run time.
On the flip side is Ascalon Catacombs right after the spider queen. That group of Gravelings can probably be skipped, but attempting that is more trouble than it’s worth.
Yeah, running Fractals is the best way to farm skill points. Good XP (especially if you’re running some of the halloween food and a sharpening stone/maitenence oil/tuning crystal) and a good number of relics drop, which you can trade for skill points.
Running dungeons is a good way too. CoF path 1 is about 20 minutes with an average group and will get you enough experience for about 1.5 skill points.
Dranor, do dungeons, just like Grezko said.
I’ve been doing that lately, and it is more profitable. Now I get about 1 gold an hour, so long as it’s my first run on the path each day.
That said, I have not been selling most crafting materials as I need them for my own legendary. Makes no sense to sell them now just to buy them again later.
Looks like someone’s grandmother knitted them an armor cover for christmas. :p
Heck, when I was running Plinx chain repeatedly, it took me like 5 runs to make 1 gold.
2.5 hours running full magic find in the most profitable location, to get 1 gold. You simply cannot make 10-20 gold a day farming in Cursed Shore. Not without something else going on.
Keep in mind, this was before Plinx got nerfed to run far less often.
