Yea, from reading I have determined that.. as I said it probably is jut RNG being RNG.

Statistics is not my strong suit I guess… just because BLSK’s have a >1 return on ecto does not mean every salvage will return at least one, even if that was my initial impression.

I main a Mesmer at the moment, my other level 80 is an Engineer.

I also have an Elementalist I will be leveling next, along with a Ranger and a Thief.

So two light, three medium and zero heavy armor wearing classes!

Yea, I have been reading about the kits and found out those numbers as well.

I am only using the BLSK because it was free, so why not use it for the greater ecto chance.

I only made this thread because I wanted to see if there maybe was an issue, though it probably is just a bad RNG run. Though right now this is happening both to me and my partner.

I just figured if the BLSKs have a >1 chance of an ecto having 7 salvages in a row with zero ectos is just frustrating!

So, I’ve been playing a TON of Southsun Survival and salvaging the rare I get every six games… typically I get between 1 and 3 ectos using a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Now, I know RNG is RNG, however, the last 7 salvages I have done have returned ZERO ectos… is this normal? Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Just seems like quite a waste of the salvage kit… thankfully it came from a chest I opened with a key I did not actually pay for.

I only ask because I remember reading a while ago that the ecto salvage rates were broken and just wanted to see if anyone else had the same issue.

If not, I guess the RNG is just hating me currently!

If they did offer such a discount then people who couldn’t afford to spend $100 at once for 8000 gems would feel ripped off. This way people with more money are not gaining any advantage over someone with less money.

Essentially they priced gems so you can buy as many as you want, or can afford, at any given moment without anyone losing out because higher quantities are better deals.

Recently they have also started giving out bonus items if you recently purchased gems with real-life cash. A recent example being the 500 gem kites.

Just some advice, bumping your thread is against the Code of Conduct:

Do not spam. This includes bumping threads or making posts that lack content.

The fact is it very rare and takes “considerable resources” to create is why I don’t think it really impacts the fact it is “copying” the mesmer elite skill.

Honestly though, this really should of been something akin to WoW’s Hearthstone or the like. Finding a mesmer isn’t usually too hard for portals, and if the costs are really high then it really makes the whole thing somewhat useless.

I see some ANet people answering some questions on other threads… any word on Aspect Arena being in the rotation and if Kiel is supposed to be promoting Evon’s game?

So, will other players be able to use this “mesmer-like portal”? Only ask because it does have “personal” in the title which seems a bit confusing.

I guess we will have to wait and see how the mechanics work on this portal, but I don’t think mesmers have too much to worry about, nor do I think it invalidates their utility skill… and I main a mesmer!

What I don’t get is why Ellen Kiel promises to add Southsun Survival to the rotation instead of the Aspect Arena, which is the game she sponsored.

I also don’t understand why Keg Brawl is being added to the rotation considering it already has a permanent place in Hoelbrak.

Even though I am voting for Keil, I really love Evon’s Southsun Survival!

We may have found another commonality, I too am running Win7 x64.

I am running 4 GB of RAM on a Core2Duo E7600 @3.0 GHz on an nVidia 460 with 1 GB onboard RAM.

Not the best system these days, but I can still play GW2 at 30fps average so I am happy.

To comment on ExTribble, I was in LA when attempting to replicate the issue, so that may have something to do with it as well. I can try testing again when out in the countryside with minimal resource usage.

To me, it does seem there is some sort of race condition happening with the deallocation and immediate reallocation of resources that causes the GW2 process to enter into an infinite loop of some sort.

That leads me to believe a recipe will drop via RNG that will allow you to craft the portal device (wonder which profession). No idea if it will become account bound on crafting, or if it will be something a player can sell on the TP though.

Since it is a “personal portal” I would imagine it works only for you, not your friends.

The key word is “personal”, so probably not.

I just tried to reproduce your issue without success. I minimized GW2 and then double-clicked on the taskbar icon. Each time the game just went back to full screen and everything worked. I tried this a good 20 or so times.

The interesting thing is a little bit later I alt-tabbed to look up something on Dulfy and when I went to alt-tab back to the game (no clicking on taskbar) my system locked up.

When yours locks up do you wind up with a black screen with a GW2 window titlebar at the top of the screen constantly flickering? I tried ctl-alt-del to bring up task manager to kill GW2, and while I was able to eventually get the ctl-alt-del screen, and was then able to click Task Manager, when it dropped back to the desktop everything was still unresponsive.

So, there is some sort of race condition happening, that much is for sure, and it is not specifically related to double-clicking on the taskbar. Hopefully some day a dev will take a look at this issue. However, that said, I would imagine it is not a common problem, and could be related to any number of other conflicts with drivers on our systems.

My only reason for saying to single-click on your taskbar is there are a number of people who double-click on everything, even if they don’t actually need to. By not double-clicking you will help prevent this issue from happening, which is why I suggested to take more care with your double-clicks for now until the issue is fixed.

All the above is great advice, one extra thing I will suggest.

Look for Dynamic Events around the same area as Hearts. Often there will be events around that let you both complete the event and the heart at the same time!

Look for NPC’s that run up to you and ask for your help, or sometimes they will be standing around with a round orange starburst type symbol over their heads. Talk to them and they will either start an event or point out where one is currently under way.

I’m using 64-bit Windows 7 and have never had this issue. I alt-tab out and come back in again multiple times when I play the game. If it was something serious affecting the way the game was programmed, it would affect more people.

Genius you are. I start a topic about how double clicking on minimized gw2 on taskbar stalls the computer enough to lose any control over it, and you (all by yourself, without anyone else’s help) figured that the problem might be… double clicking on minimized gw2 on taskbar! I take my hat off to you.
And if you think I’m doing this intentionally, after reading the effect that this has while in win7 64 bits, you may be one of the greatest minds of this era.

Not sure why you responded to Lunawisp with such sarcasm. They are correct, stop double clicking on GW2 on your taskbar and the problem will go away.

When you double-click you are causing the game to maximize and then minimize immediatly. There is some sort of race condition that crashes the client if it is maximized and then minimized again so fast.

Yes, the developers should take a look at this, however, there is a perfectly valid work around for you in the meantime: stop double-clicking the icon on your taskbar!

Ah sorry, didn’t see your other thread… but yea, I wish they would of added the same idea for tokens.

Sure is a LOT of clicking when you have 50+ of them in your inventory from playing the minigames!

Do all bags have the same chance at dropping the weapons? The bags drop actual weapons don’t they? The skins come from the Black Lion Chest scraps/tickets?

All I have ever received from the Bags of Loot are Broken Lockpicks, some white armor and Support Tokens. Then again, I have only managed to get two bags at once.

If you come in first place you get 175 points, this is what determines if you get the title.

Basically, someone came in first and then left the game leaving you at the top of the score board, but not actually in first place.

Since last patch all tokens received are using some Asian symbols instead of English letters. This includes the vendor in the Zephyr Sanctum!

Check your screenshot and make sure you have 175 points, if you do not then you didn’t actually come in first.

As for your character name… couldn’t anyone just add moonsugar.4793 to their friends list and watch you log in to see your character name(s)?

Photoshop for two reasons… one the inventory count is off, second look at the stack of 69 tokens. That stack and the rest of the empty inventory slots in that row are a couple pixels lower, which means one thing… photoshop!

They specifically said NOT the gates in the main cities!

I believe they mean the areas on the maps where you can go between zones, which have a circular portal type effect though without a gate.

I do not know if any of the online maps show these areas, however, I do believe if you look at the map and follow roads you should be able to tell where the zone portals are.

Mordeki: Did you clear out your mailbox? Items from the BLTC are delivered via in-game mail, if your mailbox is full you won’t get the delivery until you remove some messages.

Curtegg: Open a support ticket and politely ask for a refund of your gems. Considering you can’t use the item you bought on any character I can’t see why they wouldn’t refund you. They really should have a check though when buying bank tabs!

Not just you, whenever that smoke effect is used my partner and I both get horrendous lag as well!

Character slots are $10 each (800 Gems), a new copy of GW2 is now $50, or $10 per character slot… basically same price, except you now have two accounts to do all the achieves on and such.

Probably better at this point to just get character slots, especially if you can wait for them to be 20% off as Esplen suggested!

You did not mention which server you are on, however, I do believe Tarnished Coast is the unofficial RP server, so you may want to try guesting there and check out the community!

While I am not that close to world completion yet (1 PvE zone, all of WvW left) I am one of many who are unable to complete Rata Sum… or do Guild Treks… or get Dive Master.

Just thought I would post a link here so anyone who needs this achieve can get it!

I will be creating portals to the end platform of the Goemm’s Lab jumping puzzle starting at 6pm CST (4pm PST, 7pm EST). I will be there for at least an hour!

Once you enter the gate you will need to jump over three chevron platforms.

You may or may not need to kill Goemm the Mad, a level 13 veteran.

After him, and without any more jumping, is the Aetherblade Cache, guarded by two Aetherblade Pirates.

Help is available if needed with Goemm the Mad or the Pirates.

Please come to Cuatl Waypoint, straight east of the “Metrica Province” zone title overlay on the map. Portals will open AT the waypoint!

I want to offer portals to the end of the Goemm’s Lab jumping puzzle in Metrica Province for the Aetherblade Cache. This is the multi-stage jumping puzzle that requires attunement at each stage.

I will post a new thread with more details about the time I will be offering portals once I know when the event ends!
