I would trade my stealth in for Burning, Confusion, Retaliation, Protection, Stability on my weapon bars any day of the week. I love it when Elementalists complain about Thieves. If only you could buy a clue in the gem store.

IMO, D/D tank elementalists more or less are just as good as thieves. I also know of a guardian who can kick any thief’s kitten (I tried, could not get her under 80% HP, full P/D build Wild Bill style).

I agree man. There’s also some very crafty engineers on IoJ and SoS that can burst a thief down in seconds and escape with elixir S. I love fighting thieves on my guardian, doesn’t matter whether they are GC backstab or condition.

Things that I don’t want to see in a monthly achievement..

  • WvW Kills
  • Dungeon Runs
  • Fractals of the Mists

Lets keep the monthly and daily achievements as open world content. The world is empty enough as it is now. I see more bots than people.

I totally agree with this post.
(I don’t know if it does anything when I click the +1 button at the side, so I “plussed” this post this way )

The only reason I think that Monthly achievements should exclude these areas is because I feel that the monthly is there for when you aren’t doing one of the other three or four group related activities. When I don’t feel like WvW or getting a group together for FotM or a Dungeon, I look at my daily and monthly and see what needs to be done. When it shows a group activity I find it incredibly disappointing. There is already enough incentive to do dungeons, fractals and WvW, leave the daily/monthly achievements separate to the group stuff.

I could imagine a few weapon sets here
Sword/ Dagger (like a fencer )
Sword / Sword
Greatsword
Longbow

Of course it would be silly to use the same stances one uses for a Longbow than you would for duel sword so I propose that the classes stances be based on the weapon set equipped . Each weapon combo would have 2 stances

Not to be nitpicky but you would want to make it as different as possible from other soldier classes. I think Shortbow would be better as ranged as none of the other soldiers have it. 2 stances plus weapon swap would work well. I think stances should include Water stance and Earth stance, water being focused around fluid movements and including effects like chill, darkness and water fields. Earth would signify strength, controls like knockdown, stun and cripple, blast finishers and such.

I’ve been hopping around servers to get a feel for how each bracket plays (Mag last week, Ferguson’s Crossing this week). I’m looking to check out a T2 server next week, which one needs euro primetime coverage the most, and has good commanders that are representative of the server playstyle during this window?

Out of the three servers in T2 at the moment I would say Sanctum of Rall has the lowest population in EU timeslot as well as the Oceanic/SEAsian. Although I think all three of us are fairly close in Oceanic/SEAsian population, I do think BG and IOJ may have 10 or 20 more. Any IoJ or BG agree with this?

Steal
Cooldown 45 second – too big cooldown compared to other professions.
35 second – ideal number, 27 second with full Trickery line

Mug – Too much damage to Adept trait. Need to reduce the damage by 30-50%.

Professoin:
Warriors – Whirling Axe – awesome
Necromancer – Skull Fear – awesome
Thief – Blinding Tuft – awesome
Guardian – Mace Head Crack – awesome
Mesmer – Consume Ectoplasm – awesome
Ranger – Healing Seed – awesome
Elementalist – Ice Shard Stab – awesome
Engineer – Throw Gunk – totally useless and break stealth
Thieves simply can not use a professional skill against the engineers. You need to replace this useless Junk on Big Ol ’Bomb.

My inner thief does not agree stealing from warrior is awsome :<

Gunk is amazingly versatile

  • It grants us chaos shield when combined with leap or blast
  • It grants us the only way to stack confusion through projectiles
  • It does AoE damage and applies burning

It is one of the best stolen abilities we have, just because it doesn’t deal direct damage, daze or stun doesn’t make it useless.

If I could change any stolen item it would be Guardians mace headcrack. I think it would be better to steal protection, aegis, spirit weapon or retaliation.

Not really. It’s still PvE content. It’s just PvE content gated by RvR.
It would be no different from doing Fractals or Jumping Puzzles.
Ascended Items in WvW should be upgraded via combining existing exotics with badges of honour. That is the only way it can be done and achieved through WvW and without resorting to PvE

Condition dmg - is it really pointless?

My condition build Uses P/D and SB with 10 points in DA for +33% poison duration, 30 SA for stealth boons and 15 in Acro and Trickery. Poison and Bleeds gibes me a bit more diversity and poison ticks are generally up constantly. I open with CGC switch to P/D, preload CnD, Steal, Sneak attack, drop Caltrops, blinding powder, sneak attack, shadowstrike and gnerally create distance while plinking from a distance and reapplying poison or get back into the fray and put all the bleeds up again.

This build does get completely negate by guardians and necros with mass cond removals and fighting another condi thief is like an endless dance of bleeding and stealth.

I think “moving forward” in every answer is an attempt at subliminal manipulation. They want us all to forgive and forget and just keep playing.

It sounds so positive and up-beat, doesn’t it? Almost… hypnotic…. (zombie voice)… moving… forward…

It is definitely a technique used by PR. Youtube Julia Gillard (Australian Prime Minister) Moving Australia Forward. In our last major election she used “Moving Forward” so many times there were parodies made on it. It was more obvious during the election because of her lack of charisma you could tell it was a technique she hadn’t mastered.

Sorry for the bad format as im posting from mobile.
I use a 10/0/30/15/15 condition support build currently. There are probably better builds but this one suits me.
The primary dps of this build is through poison and bleeds.
Utility is based around caltrops, refuge and either smoke screen or blinding powder.
This build is used with carrion gear currently but I’m working toward getting 2 piece
apoth, 2 piece rampager, 2 piece carrion for more balance.

I put 10 DA for the 33% increased poison duration (might try 15 for weakness)
30 points SA for multiple options, there are so many on stealth options here I change them before each fight depending on the mechanics.
15 Acrobatics for extra health, and better dodge.
15 Trickery for extra initiative and caltrops on dodge.

Please. My cousin is a thief and even he says he’s insanely overpowered. He’s also got a 80 Mesmer and says that class is overpowered in PvP.

I’m calling it as I see it. If you honestly think thieves are not overpowered you’re wearing blinders. Also, I was suggesting just ONE of the three items I listed be applied…not all three. Just one would balance out the class. And, don’t even try to compare ranger pets to stealth. Ranger pets are like gnats (and their DPS is the same). Unbreakable invisibility is ridiculous to have as a skill. You really want to compare ranger pets to unbreakable invisibility? Really?

My uncle is a half necrorangerwarrior and he says the thief is op true story.

2) Our amazing community really helps the turnout and greatly mitigates player loss to new games like planetside 2 etc. People simply love playing and hanging out here, whether its just in map chat or the server teamspeak.

This… I’ve been playing both PS2 and GW2.. but SoR community is why I still rock up to WvW every night.

I’m a thief. Lvl 80. It is a fairytale, unless your definition of perma vastly differs than what it actually means.

Don’t know what exactly you are trying to tell me, just to make it clear:
Thief, lvl 80, just like you^^.
If I want to, my char stays permastealthed for hours. Other players will see signs of me refreshing the stealth, but not the char itself. That’s my definition of thiefes permastealth in GW2.

Anyone that can tab target can catch you during the revealed phase.

It’s clear that they are exploiting the culling/rendering bug, but ANET isn’t doing anything to fix it for WVWVW.

It’s not exploiting rendering at all. It’s simple to do.
Black Powder Shot + Heartseeker
Smoke Screen + Heartseeker
Shadow Refuge stacking 5x stealth duration.
You can easily utilise your skills to do this without “exploiting” the culling/rendering issue.
I fail to see how one thief holding 30 enemies attention at one supply camp is any different from one mesmer teleporting 30 enemies behind enemy lines to “exploit” culling.

I don’t personally do this but I also don’t see how this is an exploit. It is using your professions ability to an advantage, no different from a mesmer portalling 30 people in a surprise attack.

I remember running into your TOG dagger squad. Two Good thieves with a necromancer and warrior if I remember correctly.

We have our own on SoR, a mix of Thieves, Warriors, Mesmers. Great for taking undefended keeps without crossed swords.

I absolutely love P/D in dungeons with Shortbow as secondary.
I use 10/0/30/15/15 with Caltrops, Shadow Refuge and Roll for Initiative or Blinding Powder for utility. Some people shy from this as they prefer melee combat but I find it has a great balance between melee (to drop caltrops and use C&D) and ranged.
You can apply good consistent damage through bleeding and Poison (trait for +33% poison duration), you can also generate some decent might stacks by dodging and stealth. Best of all, you can heal in stealth with the T3 SA trait and provide good team support with Shadow Refuge.

Why would you remove bleed stacking from cluster bomb?
This is an optional alternative, burst for non-detonation and condition for detonation, it works well and provides players with choice.
Why would you remove poison from choking gas cloud?
Poison causes weakness with 15points in deadly arts, and vulnerability is from pistols body shot, there’s no point in restricting us further with those changes IMO.

Body Shot causing a blowout instead of vulnerability sounds interesting but overpowered considering we can use it without cooldown.

Not trying to be argumentative, just pointing out discrepencies.

After playing thief today without abusing CnD -> Steal -> Backstab I think that backstab specc would be very fine if Mug wouldn’t exist. A “damage” ability with a long cooldown just doesn’t fit in GW2. I think a great fix would be to remove mug and just buffCnD back to his unnerfed state. Also steal’s cooldown should be reduced. Steal feels kinda “meh” atm, unless used to oneshot a squishy.

I’ve mentioned it previously but I think Mug should not do damage, but instead do knockback/blowout (not to be confused with knockdown) like the Guardian Hammer #4 skill Banish.

Mug isn’t needed to be competitive but it does ensure we can annihilate up-levelled players in WvW. Replacing damage with a blowout would give us a utility/control that can be used in various situations, whether it be to create distance for ranged Thieves or to interrupt for Melee thieves.

Backstab and CnD should never be touched, they are fine as they are.

We definitely need more weapon variety, I would love to see:

  • Staff
  • Torch off-hand
  • Sword off-hand
  • Rifle

Best thing to do is ignore the players accusing of 2v1. Three factions sometimes do have games where 2 ally vs 1, Sometimes one server indiscriminately capitalises on opportunities that present themselves. It doesn’t matter really, all are the enemy even those you have treaties with.

My best fight this week was banishing two players off the cliff at Cragtop Tower on Saturday night. My 42 Guardian finally got the knockback I’ve been trying for weeks to achieve. I hope the necro and his buddy got as good a laugh out of it as I did. I made that guardian specifically for punting players off of high places.

I’m not a fan of going through the process of gathering another three sets of ascended gear. Three Exotic Sets took enough time and money from me already. Also, there is no way to currently get this gear via WvW and you can bet when it is available it will cost a stupid amount of tokens (like crafters insane grind) while FotM runners get an RnG chance.

I bought this game because it was marketed as non-vertical gear progression and no Holy Trinity. What we got was bunker builds and a new content patch with vertical gear progression.

Pushing NPCs off the cliff is a bad idea because people that are “Trolls/Rude/Mean” will knock your NPC off a cliff and what if that NPC has loot of them?

Sorry, but this feature will never be included.

Solution: real autoloot, or wvw style loot.

*sigh. Body Shot may not be spectacular, but as has already been highlighted the real issue with Pistols is Vital Shot’s significantly slower-than-intended recast speed. I don’t mean to sound rude, but how this isn’t more obvious to people than it is is something I don’t understand.

For levelling I would use Sword & Pistol, Shortbow, Caltrops + Signets (get signet of malice as soon as possible and save for shadow refuge)

  • pull with shortbow gas or auto
  • wait for them to come to you
  • Black Powder Shot
  • Pistol Whip
  • Repeat steps 3 and 4

Blocking camp capture while stealth

In Rift if you did anything, a skill, pick something up, literally anything, you dropped stealth. Why wouldn’t it be the same here? The only thing that didn’t drop you out of stealth was “incapacitating” somebody, and it was a short stun on a decent CD, so it wasn’t overpowering. The most Rogues could do was stay stealthed and incapacitate random people running by but the stun is so short it was easily just kinda something you rolled your eyes at.

In Rift an Assassin can remain in stealth until he attacks. Would you prefer that?
Would make scouting and sentry duties much easier.

Most classes can out run a thief because SoS doesn’t stack with swiftness.
Infiltrator shot (SB 5) still rubber-bands slightly when you shoot and move so I find it does more harm than good in most cases. A warrior using banners can move faster, a ranger with greatsword & warhorn sets + swiftness on pet swap & 10% speed signet can move twice as fast as a thief with Sb and shadowstep. A D/D elementalist is insane with RtL, Swiftness and the fire attuned charge. I could go on but theres no point because thief haters never listen anyway.

  • SoR has a night crew mascot. He has Pink marshmallow for a head and a dunny for a mouth.
  • SoR has an Owl Commander that only leaves our Borderland for coffee and food.
  • SoR has Ghost Chipz and Puzzel Time, even though we can’t eat Ghost Chips and Monique thinks we’re dumb.
  • SoR RP Walks with the Dolyak Guards. Because we care.

It would be great to have more Oceanic and EU/Other TZ troops out here. If you are a lost soul looking for a new home, we got you covered. If you are a small or large off-peak guild, we have plenty of room for you, commanders and troops, mercs and guilds. We would always welcome more.
