couple tips please for the uncoordinated servers?
Dont’ stand in the poo
Challenging can be good. But being one-shot-defeated by massive aoe that you have little or no time to dodge? That’s just frustrating.
If you watch the priests animations it is easy to avoid. If you see the red circle on the ground it is already too late. I love it.
This event was amazing. Finally content that actually provides a challenge. I can’t believe people are complaining. Keep up the good work AN.
Anything that allows you to buy Soldier trinkets should be this difficult.
This thread is fail. Cut the crap and show us the score.
Here’s a Score Update from Elthuzar where I caught crabs in Bloodtide Coast.
:( so sad, was stealthed in SoR Hills waiting to res our Mesmer, then lighting stroke me 4times and revealed me
You finally found the other side of the Karma bus. VRRRrrroOOOOMTHWACK!
The rogue-like classes in Warhammer used to have a lockpick ability that would open up a side entrance iirc.
Just need to change the way you look at combat. Downing somebody is not defeating them. If you down someone, you haven’t won the fight until you finish them off. So if you aren’t able to defeat someone in 1v2 or 1v3 because his friends revive him, you need to get some friends because the battle ain’t over until you ram that banner down his gullet.
I do think that reviving after defeated should be removed from WvW altogether. Hopefully after the new patch it will happen. They’re looking at changing the way resurrecting works in dungeons so hopefully that is the foundation for doing the same in WvW.
Great fights between GSCH and TC in TC Borderlands tonight. Thank you all for putting up. How many of you guys did I bubble off the Z ramp at Hills keep where you had the cat? I love those cliff hanging moments.
Thieves don’t get that many kills anyway. The set up time and waiting for opportunity generally means they miss out on a lot more kills when compared to any other profession. I can make 10x the badges on my ranger compared to my Thief purely because I can safely plink away behind a wall of zerg.
I hope SBI is recording the battle for Jerrifer’s Slough. Props to you guys, that is one of the best defenses I have ever seen and it’s up there with epic bay fights for sure.
Superior Rune of Logan Thackeray
(1) +20% swiftness duration when moving away from foe
(2) +100% chance to gain swiftness(20s) when hit in combat
(3) +15% movement speed when hit in combat
(4) +5% chance to shout when hit, “NOT THE FACE!” for swiftness (10s)
(5) +20% swiftness duration when hit in combat
(6) Armour & Face doesn’t break on death
Fixed that up a little.
Once you see what a GC staff AOE rotation of 3-4 skills do on a group of people, you can never go back, lol.
I’ve been on the receiving end of 16k worth of meteorswarm once. Was immobilized and had already used my breaker. I was impressed though, no complaints, just impressed.
If there was a survival skill on a 60 second cooldown (Like Sick ‘Em) that let the pet sniff out stealth I think it would give rangers some much needed love. Or maybe Sick’Em could have a trait associated with it that grants the pet the ability to reveal nearby stealthers.

Where’s the Half Naked Norn these days?
I’m of the understanding that Stealth is inclusive of hiding and sneaking, therefore Dredge are not immune because of the sneaking or Tip-Toe portion of stealth.
Blind is in direct relation to attacking the optical senses, where as stealth is a general description of avoiding detection, which includes optic, auditory and olfactory senses.
The best thing about this game is the complete lack of aggro meters and boss mods. I can’t stress how refreshing it is when fighting a boss that I actually have to watch his animations in order to see whether I need to dodge that big one-shotter, or getting aggro and then taking steps to drop it or transfer it to someone else. In WoW I would have had 4 or 5 mods that blurted out an airhorn, sent me a text message, paged me, sent an email and fax to let me know that the boss was 10 seconds away from using his big attack. No thanks. Not anymore.
On SOR – Katja, Boss, Debs or Vareynas, Myself and Dye used to 4 man keeps. Our group would vary each night but it was generally a 4 man ninja group. We rarely WvW any more though. Don’t have any videos though. Troll rams were commonplace back in those days.

I think i’ve discovered why SoR is weak during the Oceanic time… Because they are all holed inside the JP with the siege! (Trebuchet in the JP is new for me)
They complain that BG do PvDoor at that time, but they aren’t even trying to defend their stuff… Figures…
That’s not oceanic prime time mate. That was 4pm here and CAMP are not Oceanic.
Oceanic prime time was 4 people defending Valley Keep against BG blitzkrieg. GG.
Because that coverage is necessary to compete in T1, and most are willing to PvDoor while keeping their sights on the big picture. I see some people missing this point in the BG recruitment thread as well. BG isn’t recruiting for T2.
I’m curious, what will happen to Blackgate once you do reach Tier 1? Assuming you beat SoS after a couple of weeks you will have won GW2, will you pack your things and try your hand at the Euro League? or Will you all disperse and start again on a mid-tier server? All hypothetically speaking of course.
No malice intended, I’m honestly curious
And I’m being completely honest when I say this … I haven’t the foggiest idea. But I would be a bit surprised if we beat either SoS or the newly revitalized JQ with our current coverage. I know that may sound crazy to someone on SoR, but T1 is a different animal altogether. Not only will our NA crew be pushed to it’s limits, our off-hour coverage will have a constant battle as well. BG’s only spot where it may have an advantage against SoS and JQ is during EU primetime, which BG may have the strongest WvW playerbase currently. However, I’m excited to see where BG stands against the current T1 servers. It’s been a long time since we’ve been tested there.
The last time we were in T1, we took 2nd place in the first match then got throttled by SBI two matches in a row and passed in rating by SoS. JQ was having some morale problems and were mostly a non-factor during those three matches, other than doing just enough to stay in the #2 spot. However, JQ seems to be surging, judging by their likely victory this week and reclaiming the #1 spot.
We shall see. I know it seems like BG is a behemoth, but only in T2. In T1 we’re the underdog. Either way, we’re not going anywhere. We’ll give each match our best, continue to try to improve our participation and coverage, and continue to have fun, whether it’s T1, T2 or wherever.
Thanks for your honesty. I can imagine the Tier 1 being like our US Peak battles but 24/7 and tbh, we do not have the coverage for that on SoR. I don’t even believe that I belong in Tier 2 but I got to play with the hand I’m dealt.

Just hit 80 tonight. Setting up for a Rabid Sword/Torch and Trap build first off, then I’ll look into a zerker build once I accumulate the gear.

Oh and bonus TC LA Map chat…
As you might have noticed from the screenshot, I wasn’t in WvW at the time of the screenshot.. hence.. no map. Grats to you for correcting me in the error of my ways before posting the map though.. much appreciated. :P

viper trap should have been a poison gas type trap which acts like the flame trap where axes/arrows passing through it becomes poison.
Rangers have 4 unique ways to put down a poison combo field. There is no need to add another on the traps.
Ranger
Poison Cloud (Carrion Devourer): Duration 5 seconds and full control over it with F2 activation and a 30 second (Can be improved by traits).
Poison Gas (Forest Spider): Duration 3 Seconds (Actual Field duration is less than 1 second)
Poison Cloud (Cave Spider): Duration 3 Seconds (Actual Field duration is less than 1 second)
Poison Cloud (Jungle Spider): Duration 3 Seconds (Actual Field duration is less than 1 second)
Engineers
Poison Grenade(Grenade kit): Combo Field Duration 5 seconds
Thieves
Choking Gas (Short bow):
Combo Field Duration 4 seconds. Able to lay 3 Gas clouds down before running out of initiative.
Necromancers
Chillblains (Staff): Duration 6 Seconds
Corrosive Poison Cloud (skill): Duration 12 seconds
Rangers don’t need more ways of placing a poison combo field. You have the option at your disposal by choosing the Carrion Devourer for the best iteration, or you can opt for one of three spiders to do it as part of the AI rotation. That’s just for the combo field, the Ranger profession is arguably one of the best equipped at dealing out continuous poison conditions if built for it.
And that’s the -point- of burning and poison, they don’t stack in potency but you can stack them up to last FOREVER, they will ALWAYS have 33% less healing which in PvP that’s a kittening death sentence! The point of using poison is more for the kitten block to healing it applies than the damage, but you know, half of this forum is to stupid to think about building for anything other than MOAR DAMGZ!!
This ^
Poison as a condition is one of the strongest conditions in the game, it’s damage is in between bleeding and burning and reduces healing by 33%. A great condition for PvP but also for PvE against mobs that use regeneration and heals (Skale for instance).
A ranger could easily make a build and gear set around poison as a primary damage as it’s theme, with sword & dagger, Shortbow, viper traps, devourer or spider pets and runes and sigils that boost condition damge and poison duration. It would be an amazingly helpful build in a team environment, ensuring constant poison uptime on multiple targets and putting them on the defensive.
All three conditions have their own strengths and weaknesses, and I would hazard a guess to say the developers don’t want the ranger to have a poison field on a utility skill as well as pets because they don’t want one class to have continuous access to every field and finisher.

3 seconds? Hell no. The white circle indicating a combo field literally flashes for less than a second before vanishing.
Read the description. It’s three seconds.
Read my post. In practice, it ain’t three seconds.
What about the Carrion Devourer? The poison field is 5 seconds, that’s 2 seconds longer than the Cave spider.
Hands down, Darkhaven and the Half Naked Norn. Still the most memorable match when we were down to 1000 points between all three servers in the final hours of our week long battle.
If Dagger/Dagger Ele, it’s Alpaca Owl…
Aka Owley Poohbear.(He’s gonna kill me, but it’s vesnan’s fault! I swear!)
Tier 3 Human cultural Armor/black and white.
I thought Alpaca pooh is a gurl…. kitten Katja.

What trait builds & skills do you use with Sword? I’ve been mixing up all my weapons while levelling my new ranger (level 46 now) and trying various combinations to get a good “pure” melee build. I’ve been enjoying Sword & Warhorn the most lately for the birds and fury.

There you go elthy! It’s the one I use for my sPvP ranger.
Came up as a bad Link El
What are you running off hand with sword?
Torch or dagger?
Dagger! I stack evasion as hard as I can. Someone earlier said they don’t like serpent’s strike. I’m like whaaat that’s my favorite non-auto.

0/25/30/10/5 with full berserker gear. I use quickening zephyr, a wolf, and a snow leopard. Those’re the main staples of my aggressive behavior. Lemme know if there are more specifics you want to know. I’m not a pure melee build; my build is made to work in conjunction with a bow of some kind (usually short) in my other hand.
Thanks, this seems to be what i’m gravitating towards as I level up anyway. I hit 50 tonight so I’ve currently got 0/20/15/0/5 and it’s working as intended.

The Viper trap isn’t broken it is not intended to have a poison field and it doesn’t need one, we have plenty of ways to poison. Engineer’s have a poison field, Thieves have a poison field, Rangers don’t need one, they have fire and ice. There are plenty of other more important things that need to be fixed before adding things that just aren’t needed.
An analogy about a car accident and a doctor wtf? lay off the green.
Not to mention, the spider poison field literally lasts for but a split second. It might as well not be a combo field at all.
So do the combo fields from fire trap (3s) and Frost Trap (5s).
Spider Poison Gas (3s) on 20s cooldown.
(edited by Elthuzar.9478)
I disagree that it should provide a combo field. Ranger can already get a poison combo field through spider pets or marsh drake. They already get the fire field and chill field from traps, and vipers don’t secrete poison, they bite. It just doesn’t make sense. If rangers get a buff anywhere it should be through their spirits and pet abilities. Pet AI and just general usefulness in PvE & WvW is deplorable.
I do it all the time.
Thief Opens, Protect Me, Knock Back, Barrage, Kill.
This ^
My main is a Thief (I’m just on these forums to get some ideas for my new ranger) and I can tell you my biggest weakness is being denied my opener and then knocked down or knocked back. A thief only has one skill with stability (Dagger Storm) and it’s an elite on a long cooldown. If I’m in berserker gear in a crit damage build, once you knock me down I am as good as dead. Immobilize also works but not as effective as a knock back.
The notion that Sanctum of Rall is home to more adults/parents is showing. Wish I could log in and defend the tiny amount of real estate we’re holding, but it’s Christmas day, and I have my priorities straight.
Or..don’t make decisions in life that cause needless priorities., kids, wife, etc. Life is much cheaper and simpler without those constant money syncs.
I did once and realized , “I’m a grown man, and I can’t do what I want, when I want. Screw this, I’m out.”
Now, it’s quiet. No screaming, yelling. My money is mine. My time is mine. As it was intended.
P.S. Christmas is just another Tuesday to me. It’s all about money anyway, the meaning was lost Eons ago.
LOL @ Real life being a time & money sink.
I assume you meant sink as in, money goes down the drain?
Sync is short for synchronous and is quite the opposite of what you intended to say.
A melee staff would fit the acrobat line of the Thief perfectly. Thief Acrobat is deeply ingrained into the older editions of table top RPGs. A staff or quarterstaff is a great thief weapon, it doubles as a pole to vault with, use for balance, trip and disarm foes and is basically a concealed weapon in the right hands.
I could see the staff being a fast hitting weapon with a daze attack, a leap and an evade. The fighting style would look much like Darth Maul, and the auto attack would chain much like the rangers sword attack (which is actually quite interesting to fight with once you learn the chain).
When you transmute the Anonymity Hood with a mask the appearance bugs out and combines the two (See picture of my Ranger below). Unfortunately it resets on your first load screen.
Instead of asking to change GW2, I would rather see a FFA PvP game built on this engine with the same combat system and stylized art. I also miss the edginess of constantly looking over my shoulder while exploring or gathering, but I would hate to see FFA server in GW2. Too easily broken, waste of precious resources that are already spread thin catering to sPvP, WvW, PvE and Dungeon content.
This would be a great engine for a new Lineage sequel.

I traded my Thief in for a guardian 150 hours ago.
I was able to fight a Thief the other day while reviving two team mates.. I left my team mates at 95% before I killed the Thief.. just because I didn’t want to share the kill.
My Norn Guardian is faster than any Ele/Thief or Warrior anyway.
Unless they too have supersonic stealth kitty form.
highest dps , perma stealth due to culling and best mobility on one class is too much. this needs to be fixed.
no aegis, no protection , no stability , no CC, lowest base armor / HP
forgot to mention ?
Don’t forget:
- No Retaliation
- No Confusion
- No Burning
- Seven possible weapon combinations (Not counting spear or harpoon gun)
- A total of twenty-one weapon skills (water skills not included) An Elementalist has 20 weapon skills on the staff alone!
- Nine possible melee weapon skills spread across four melee weapon sets.
- One Ranged weapon skill at 1200 yards
- Ten Ranged weapon skills at 900 yards spread across four weapon sets (p/x, sb)
- Only Two utility skills to remove immobilize
Race a D/D Elementalist and a Shortbow Thief in a race and see who has the best mobility.
(edited by Elthuzar.9478)
They should just get rid of all stealth skills and instead replace it with the effect : Steal 1s. Make the thief a real thief, not some assassin/ninja.
CnD > whirling axe > repeat for as long as you have initiative and there is at least one warrior around.
Or Hey guardian, like some perma daze?
I’m sorry necro did I just chain fear you till you died?Sounds legit.
how much initiative does whirling axe cost? I keep casting C&D but my Whirling Axe keeps failing.
What weapon set is my chain fear on? I didn’t know it I could spam that too.
Retaliation does not reduce damage taken by the affected player, but damages anyone who hits them (even if the hit doesn’t actually inflict damage; for example, if it is blocked).
Damage dealt depends on the level and power of the retaliation’s source. Retaliation deals 267 damage per hit at level 80 with the base power of 916, and +1 damage for every 13.4 power above that. It is not reduced by the target’s armor.
Read the wiki.. it’s not poorly worded at all. It explains it perfectly. Nowhere does it say reflects damage.
- Retaliation does not reduce damage taken by the affected player
- but damages anyone who hits them (even if the hit doesn’t actually inflict damage; for example, if it is blocked).
- Damage dealt depends on the level and power of the retaliation’s source
Note: For those that don’t know, if you type /wiki in game, it will open the gw2 wiki page for you.
I just updated the score on Sanctumofrall.com for those that can’t be in game.
Sanctum of Rall |+450/194,883
Blackgate | +140/233,921
Isle of Janthir | +110/111,357
Here comes something really interesting I think you should get! In cursed shore, between Harrowed sea and Winterknell shore, there is a settlement and a karma vendor and there you can buy masterpiece (green) earrings with pre/heal stats on them. It’s the only ones I seen ingame and I can’t find any exotics in the database that has those stats.
Its kind of weird that those aren’t exotics imo but be greatful, they fit a support AH/hammer guardian beautifully. GET THEM.
There are rare (Yellow) Pre/Vit/Heal trinkets under the name Magi
- Crest of the Magi
- Magi Ring
- Magi’s Amulet
- Magi’s Spineguard
- Magi’s Field Guide
When will you ele’s quit complaining and start learning to counter? I’ve been beaten plenty of times by good elementalists using d/d. They could also outrun me before the signet buff this patch. I would quite happily trade my stealth in for increased survivability, burning, confusion, blowouts, knockdowns, water fields, 1200 range and AoE.
Note: The perfect Thief profession for me wouldn’t use stealth, venoms or traps. Instead of stealth I would have rather just have each of my weapon abilities have a different skill related to whether i attack from the front or from the flank (Similar to how backstab works, but without the stealth).
Instead of venoms I would have utility skills like bluff, taunt, feint and blindside.
Instead of Traps I would have acrobatic skills like trip, disarm, riposte and lunge.
I’m very disappointed in GW2’s representation of the Thief. It’s not a thief at all, it is merely a re-skinned Assassin combined with a rogue from EQ/WoW. It’s a wolf in thief’s clothing.
(edited by Elthuzar.9478)
Great fights tonight in SoR borderlands. Looking forward to tomorrow night.
I would probably say the closest thing to a tanky melee thief would be s/p, d/p, or s/d, with the later two being more stealth orientated. S/P was better prior to the 15% damage nerf on pistol whip, but now relies too heavily on haste and signet of agility. S/D is a great control/damage set and D/P trades the C&D stealth for BP and HS stealth. Anything with pistol off-hand relies heavily on blind from BP and can be tough because most players will just move out of the smoke. S/D is great but relies a lot on stealth and daze to survive.
