“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Chewable, I’d bet dollars to donuts that history will repeat itself.
A mega server that is easily winning all it’s matches will ultimately implode.
The game has devolved in WvW to the point that losing servers either can’t compete due to transfers, resulting in a lack of numbers. Worse yet, they simply quit by mid week leaving the dominate server owning 90% of the map and a 300K point lead. The end result is the same, no WvW action.
Free transfers is the fuel that will eventually burn WvW down to the ground.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Just to play devil’s advocate here.
Let’s suppose everyone’s name is displayed in WvWvW.
I’m out running out of my spawn and stop to fight somes mobs that are around a resource node. After I kill the last mob, and at 25% health a enemy thief named " omgipwnu" pops out and finishes me off.
I’m having a bad day, and this really kittens me off. In retaliation I report the thief’s name as offensive.
Likely player omgipwnu will not get in trouble however, the retaliation reports will start to clog up Anet’s resources.
Just a thought…..
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
I believe that JQ, much like HoD, may win the battle but ultimately lose the war. It’s obvious that life at the top poses many problems compounded by the free transfers that is wrecking WvWvW.
ET is not in a position to challenge JQ or HoD IMO. I don’t believe ET has had an influx of new players, the queue times certainly don’t suggest that. If anything, queue times are less now than a couple weeks ago it seems.
In a way, bouncing between T1 and T2 sounds more appealing than the fate of either JQ or HoD will likely endure for the short term.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
The recent shake up that occurred in the NA Tier 1 ranks demonstrates how fragile WvWvW is at the moment.
I’ve feel that I’ve gotten my $60 worth, no question about that. If I was into PvE, I could entertained for a long time. Sadly though, I bought the game solely for WvW play.
The question is, will the game interest me enough to invest anymore time or money into it in the future.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Defeating HoD now would be like sinking the Bismark, after all the sailors had already abandoned ship.
Even if ET could turn things around now and win, It will be a rather hollow victory for me personally.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
IMO, the future of WvWvW looks grim. It’s obvious that the slow reaction to many of the issues posted here has discouraged many people to the point of quitting the game temporarily or worse, permanently.
Hacking reports, free transfers, unbalanced server matchups, are just a few concerns the community has expressed over and over again.
Last night I logged off after 10 minutes. It may be time for me personally to take a brief hiatus until things are sorted out.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
I think it really depends on which server you are on.
I’m one of those people that like to stay behind and build up defenses after a tactical point is taken. I’ve yet been told to quit defending and re-join the Zerg.
Servers that understand giving up hard fought real estate so easily is not going to win too many week long matches.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
A big guild coming to save a smaller server that already has a tight community may see the welcome mat pulled out from under their feet.
This would especially be the case if the large guild tries to mold the server instead of attempting to fit in.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
This has been the best continuous WvW action I’ve ever seen in T2. As a member of ET, I’ve seen epic victories and our share of epic defeats. It’s been a blast though. IoJ and CD have my respect. Salute.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
First off, I think HoD accomplishments were fairly impressive. Congradulations to all parties involved.
I hope that HoD doesn’t throw out the baby with the bath water however. It will not be good for the game if the server sinks to oblivion either.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Will be fun to see who is accusing who of double teaming who… I sound like an owl… Hoo hoo hooooo!
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
I’ve thought that matches should be broken up into 2 weekly brackets too. It looks like your suggestion would be as follows:
Match-up 1 would be F-Sat-Sun and Match-up 2 M through Thur. The match-up of the servers is calculated independently between the two time periods.
The results of the weekend match would not affect the weekday pairings, or vice versa.
I’m not sure this system is any better or worse than a 1 week match- up though. Unfortunately there is only one way to test it out.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
The best way to defend a keep or tower any more is to build all siege equipment inside just behind the gate and wait, then blast the attackers as they charge through. Placing defensive siege equipment on the walls is a waste of time since they will be AOE’d down in seconds anyways.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
I’ve barely scratched the surface of all the content in the game. I can see me playing WvW on the weekends and PvE some during the week for a very long time.
Great game even with some of the obvious issues already discussed at length in other threads.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
At least you didn’t deny it was silly. I’ll give ya a plus one for that at least.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
The fact that HoD is rolling to another easy victory kinda makes this post look rather whiney and silly. All hail the HoD overlords and all that stuff I guess.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Thanks for making yet another thread about the same topic. No, really… Thanks.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
This current WvW system is broken/infantile. This has nothing to do with your “fighting spirit” or whatever horrible energy drink you consume.
Also, Kanye West is horrible.
I spewed my morning coffee all over my IPad, thanks a lot!
:-D
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
If you had asked this question 3 weeks ago, my answer would have been don’t wait.
Now that there are so many level 80s with exotic gear, even a level 60 is going to struggle.
A level 30 will likely only be useful defending keeps, towers, and supply depots.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Made up numbers used to support an argument? Are you in politics perhaps?
In general, I do agree that currently WvWvW is mainly there for the folks that just love running around killing other people. I’m part of that group.
PvE is (in most cases) the fastest way to level up and gain gold. WvW is for bragging rights.
The important issue you raised concerning WvWvW , will the lack of rewards cause a lot of current players to leave, is still unknown regardless of what numbers you plug in.
In my case, bragging rights may not be enough in another 6 months. I really can’t say at this point.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Fubuki, you sir are a gentleman. I’ve always enjoyed your recruitment posts. Best of luck to your efforts.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
I’ve been on SBI and have been since day one, but I’m seriously considering transferring off. Queue times this weekend were horrible.
I’d rather play and lose then not play at all.I just want to make sure I don’t transfer to a server that gets spawn camped, because that might as well be considered not playing either.
Just to provide some perspective:
Queue times for the borderlands this weekend on ET were 10 to 15 minutes or less, for me at least.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
This weekend was the most fun I’ve had since beta in GW2. It’s nice to be playing in the major league so to speak.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Porting into a Tower when the walls and gate are still intact sounds like a unintended bug much like killing siege weapons by using the reflect damage skill was.
If you haven’t already, make sure you send this information as a bug report too. That is pretty cheesy and clearly an exploit of a bug in game.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Anet specifically stated this was to stop some exploits. It will also stop cross realm shenanigans to some degree.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Unfortunately for ET, this past week has been a real snoozer and it may take a day or two for them to get their A game going again. I’m part of ET, so I hope the week of R&R we just had is not a detrimental factor.
Regardless of the outcome, I’m looking forward to some epic battles this week.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Starting in a few hours, after the new server match-ups are established, Server transfers are only allowed once in a 24 hour period.
Plan accordingly.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
I think that many servers gave up after 2 or 3 days play and that will severely have an effect on match-ups this coming week.
With the exception of the Tier one group, I expect the matches will result in even more lop-sided results.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
I play during NA prime time, and I’m also tried of all those qq threads.
The feeling of entitlement and instance that everything must be fair for THEM is immature and silly.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
At least it’s recognizable pulp, whatever that is.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
NPCs at a fully upgraded control point go down faster than a $10 lawn chair from Walmart at the moment. In order to make them worth anything you would need to up their HP by up to 10X. That would slow down a group a little more, but not by much.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
My son’s HS football team is awful this year. In a couple of weeks they play a team that is ranked #2 in the nation.
We are demanding that our team is allowed to play the Cheerleaders instead.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
The majority of “solutions” for the so called fixing of WvWvW seem to focus on penalizing the winning server and rewarding the losing servers.
I agree the current match-ups are very lopped sided. I believe in many cases however, it’s because some of the servers have decided to give up until the next match-ups are made .
Restricting player participating based on how many people from a losing server decide to venture into WvWvW is plain silly.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
This is a common defense tactic that has been known for a while. Most AOE skills also ignore the door. I never stand on a wall anymore in a keep or tower defense. My warrior equips a long bow, stands behind the gate, and racks up the kills.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Apparently not everyone feels as you do.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/SoS-takes-Orb-back-from-ET/first#post152244
Last night I logged into WvWvW and saw 1 server holding 99% of the map. I chatted with my guild mates a bit, then logged off. No point currently to play under these circumstances.
Oh, I forgot to mention I’m on the server that is holding 99% of the map.
So no, this is not just a problem for the servers currently being destroyed by one bully server.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
IOJ and SOS, don’t give up! Give those bastages a whopping. errr, wait. I’m on ET…..
Last night was depressing for everyone. ET folks Would rather be fighting than looking at a completely green map, believe me.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
I’d much rather have someone dishing out damage and throwing out a few group boons in my group than someone attempting to fill a role that Anet purposely did not include.
Individual heals are far more effective and reliable. I can’t ever remember getting a heal other than my own that made a difference in my survival.
People willing to rez a fallen team mate during a battle is however can be the difference in preventing a route.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
I’m sure I’ve left a couple dozen BoH on the ground unclaimed in the heat of battle.
I think auto looting would be nice. I can’t imagine it would be too hard to add. DAoC did it.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Arrow carts do too much damage. Catapults knock me down. balastia kill me if I stand still. Please fix.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Allow free transfers to low population servers only.
I suspect that the number of people transferring from a high pop to low pop server is very low.
People are willing to put up with queues rather than suffer on a low pop server that are routinely trounced in WvW.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Unfortunately, this isn’t much fun for the server holding 90% of the map. The spawn campers may get a few yucks, but I’m sure that becomes tiresome after a bit.
So no, you are likely not the only one.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
I guess when 2 servers are working together, each side has to watch that AOE eh? Hmmm. A lot of interesting possibilities for counter tactics for the server that has a 2 on 1 situation. :-))
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Friendly fire siege damage to gates is a good idea, but impractical until they lock out WvW after a server transfer (which should have been done the moment the 1 week match started).
I hadn’t thought of the griefing part that free transfers would allow for subvert activity such as purposely attacking a wall or door. That is an issue.
However, I thought of 6 things someone one could do right now that is far more effective at grieving in WvW by abusing free transfers.
The answer to solving a lot of issues in WvW seem to revolve around stopping the free/unlimited transfers ASAP.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
A change to allow collateral damage from siege equipment. Problem fixed.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Solution to the catapult trick, introduce siege weapons friendly fire now causes damage.
I’ve seen this technique in action and can verify it’s effectiveness. It is however a border line cheese strat that will likely be fixed in the future.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
Being on a low population server sounds noble and adventurous. The truth is, it’s frustrating and demoralizing and not for most people.
Most people do not enjoy being farmed and will give up after a short period of time.
If the OP really wants to enjoy WvW, he needs to take advantage of the free transfers and find a new home. This is not the solution for the game balance, but it is currently the solution for an individual player.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
In reading some of these responses, what should a handful of defenders do when facing 10 times their number? Might as well hit " M" and port out.
Your mistake was you didn’t cross realm before the fight and check out what they had. / sarcasm off

(edited by Estus.1726)
Spawn camping is a problem. The dominate server can’t understand why the other two servers won’t come out to play. Catapults, trebuchets, arrow carts poise to kill them is not exactly a welcome mat.
The end result is bored players on the dominate server, and players that either transfer off, or refuse to participate and be farmed.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
I believe that Anet seriously underestimated the difficulty of matching up servers to provide a relative appearance of being competitive.
I say that based only on my experience from server jumping over the weekend. I took advantage of free transfers to see what match-ups were close. I stopped after the 4th transfer. All the maps showed one dominate server holding 75% of the map, or more.
As things stand now, I believe it was too early to move to longer match-ups. I don’t agree that the winning side ought to be punished by limiting how many can enter WvW.
In short, I’m unfortunately in a position where I can point out what issues I see, but cannot offer a viable solution. I’m confident however Anet WILL resolve these problems eventually.
