As a scrapper I would say the matchup is fairly even, but the guard has the advantage of being the better point holder since you will need to move out of the symbols and probably even use stealth gyro as scrapper. You can still win but it will usually take to long and the guard will most likely decap or even full-cap if the engi is defending. Generally I’d say the scrapper should only engage if he knows he is either the superior player or can expect a +1 from a teammate in a reasonable amount of time. However the engi should always be able to get away if the fight goes badly.
Against the bursty longbow variant the scrapper should probably win, even though you can mess up the matchup pretty easily by facetanking true shot and/or kick. Same goes for the DH if he has sword 2 or true shot reflected though.
I’d like to have one, since I originally planned to give each of my 4 (more or less) active chars one of the PvP season titles, but for some reason they didn’t add one for season 4. While the titles don’t carry that much meaning it’s still better than some pve title.
Even though for now I’m using the ‘Salty Sea Dog’ brand.
Maybe you got to Ruby fast so you had the good players around you but you took longer in Ruby and most of the good players have now moved out of your pip range. League doesn’t really show skill, but the speed of progression does to some extent (even though games played and luck with the streaks are also a factor).
I played less this season and didn’t play for 5 days when the season started so I’m behind my ‘usual’ piprange and the players I was matched with in the previous season, but I still occasionally get some strong players into my matches who also were slow with the ‘pvp grind’. Many matches have fairly low quality, but at least that should give you the opportunity to carry since the teams are mostly evenly matched (if the quality is low it is the case for both teams).
Warr is still borderline op with the reg potential + 2x endure pain, and huge block from the shield, +2x resistance, paired with insane pressure (condi, physical or even hybrid, anything goes on warr).
Nec meanwhile is in an extremely tight spot due to it being left out of the massive upscale of immunities, blocks, dodges etc. and the nerf of team sustain on ele, so it is the focus target #1 and usually melts easily under focused pressure. The boon corrupt and downed pressure are the things nec still has and make it viable, so if a nec kittens on a warri by corrupting resistance once in a while it is very, very well deserved and a view to enjoy.
And no, I don’t play Nec.
Scrapper has been nerfed severely for like what, 3 times in a row now? Meanwhile Druid has the same amount of sustain, better cleansing, better access to quickness, ranged pressure, passive dps from pet and better stability, better immunity (signet of stone), similar res power, but yeah, scrapper is op.
Scrapper is somewhat sustainy, but supectible to high burst, cc lock (due to lack of stabi) and condi pressure and extremely easy to kite. The auto elixir S is very double edged since it can interrupt your heal, condi might still grill you while in it and any decent thief or rev will instagib you when you get of it with 25% now that healing turret has a cast time.
The only truly op thing on scrapper is the res potential with gyro res + and stealth gyro, but even there the ranger is on par with pet rez, aoe stealth and potential S&R.
Honestly, have you been playing in emerald exclusively or how the hell can you get it so kitten wrong? I can’t take this seriously at all.
Just scrap the Bloodlust mechanic alltogether, it was by far the most useless part of the alpine bls anyway. Usually nobody even bothered with capping it, if it wasn’t for the daily.
Is Anet even trying to fix it or do they just don’t care?
Leaked footage of Anet devs trying to fix the UA bug.
Bump. This bug has to be hotfixed asap. Revenant is completely broken with this kitten, it completely ruins your key skill and makes you extremely vulnerable. Every stupid kittening Event NPC that deviates from its path gets hotfixed after one day and this bug is being allowed to stay in the game and not even acknowledged, it’s a complete joke.
Yep, consecutive wins don’t count…
Still not fixed, but I’m so happy they reduced the Energy cost of some underwater bullkitten. /Sarcasm off
This^1000. It’s incredibly annoying and has lost me quite a number of fights. I get stuck in the middle of nowhere with the cam zoomed out ~15m away from my char about 3-5 times per match in PvP atm. The only way to break it is another movement skill. Which is something you want to save for other occasions, and not for selfroots. UA also usually cancels out in the middle of the skill when this happens. This needs a hotfix asap.
Probably Druid. Scrapper is fine too, but a bit vulnerable to burst/cc lock. Also easier to kite than Druid. Strongest 1v1 class might still be Warri, but not quite as sustainy as druid or scrapper and also a bit slow with the current condi spec.
The main problem at the moment is at that the playerbase playing beyong legend has collapsed to a state where the current MMR system is broken beyond belief. I mostly play after 23:00 (Paris/Berlin time) and I basically have the same, unbalanced match every night, facing the same few top players stacked in the opposing team while getting a random team (with recurring names) that isn’t even half as good, resulting in a guaranteed loss and a lack of motivation for me to even try hard, since it does not make any difference in the outcome if I win my fights. It’s a really small pool of names reccuring every night and the teams are always the same, uneven way. By making Legend so easy to reach Anet has produced a spectacular own goal, since most players don’t play beyond it and the matchmaking system does not work at all with the current playerbase. I reached legend in 2 weeks or so with ~70-75% win ratio and probably have like 30% win ratio post legend, because I keep playing the same match night after night.
Build diversity was never a huge factor in high level PvP and probably will never be, thanks to the impossibility of balancing it. The class balance otherwise atm is far from perfect (warri sustain is overtuned with the dps it has, guard is a bit too weak, nec dies too easily if focussed), but it has been far worse before, so that’s not really the factor.

The suggestions sound good so far. I especially support the controversial ones – the action level is a must have. I play a lot at latenight and offpeak myself and would not mind my contribution counting less – the population levels are far too imbalanced at latenight to actually let it decide matchups.
Also I hope the Last Stand mechanic will not be overpowered – matchups decided after day one are bad, but 6 days worth of “work” getting overturned on a friday afternoon does not sound fair either.
PPK is a double edged sword – it rewards fights, which is good, but it also encourages monoblobbing since the biggest zerg will win most fights and rarely get wiped – so if you plan to buff PPK it would need more incentives to actually split zergs, especially on EB.
Alpine BLs might have there flaws here and there, but they are miles better than the deserted borderlands where you barely found enemies to fight except for an occasional karma training zerg. As a roamer the alpine borderlands are way more fun, because you get more frequent fights and camps are actually fought for and not just flipped back and forth. Most people who want DBL back are probably disappointed karma trainers who have to fight for their caps for the first time in a while.
So, good news!
- You (collectively) spoke.
- The team listened.
- Things are changed for the better, judging from the large number of votes in favor of this switch.
- Obviously, this is not all that’s coming, but it was a matter of importance to the WvW community, and it’s a good start, eh?
Time to trash the Deserted Borderlands then, isn’kitten Talking about a large number of votes in favor…

Definitely Ele. It can bunker a point and give amazing support for teammates at the same time (heal/condicleanse/auras/boons). A midfight of two vaguely similar skilled teams (usually 3v3 or 4v4 in pug matches atm) between a grp without Ele and with Ele will almost always see the Team with Ele win. Rev’s are good DPS dealers and Scrapper good bruisers, but can be replaced by other classes relatively easily (DH and Druid respectively for example), while there is simply no other class that offers what Ele has to offer atm. I’m really surprised how few Eles are around in Pug matches, considering that ele is basically the new bunker mes when it comes to carrying solo Q.
The Vermillion vs The Abjured series at the Pro League Final was a prime example for this on the highest level. Matches were relatively close before with Vermillion even taking a match, but when Vermillion removed their ele to have 2 Revs while keeping their Ranger it turned into an absolute steamroll for The Abjured.

Matchmaking is great, having a lot of fun with all the PvE heroes in Amber atm. Also mostly good teammates, even got carried once or twice when I kittened up. Probably on ~80-85% Win ratio atm in Amber/Low Emerald. Might be pure luck but I like to think it’s because teammates are based on MMR while opponent grp is based on Division (not sure if they introduced it that way, but I think that’s what they originally announced).
Stream lagging as hell, why does this always have to be on Twitch. Worst streaming site ever, their streams never work.
I prefer Foefire because it’s the map where fights count most and you don’t get ourotated as easily as on Nifhel or Kyhlo. It’s relatively straightforward. Also the fights at the mid point are more fun imo, since you have some space to roam and don’t have to stay on a point the size of a gravity well. Even though the Bunker Meta has ruined that quite a bit.
Simply play the classes you have trouble countering/predicting most important skills and weaknesses. No need to be an expert at it, but you should have played at least the most common 1-2 builds on every class once (Hotjoin or Unranked is enough) to understand the mechanics and learn how they are countered.
I haven’t done it myself on all classes, but that’s mostly due to laziness and lack of charslots.
Map awareness and watching the map while fighting is a matter of experience and probably what took me longest too (and I’m still far from perfect at it), it just takes a lot of games on a relatively high level to learn it.

There has definitely been a secret change to the dishonour. I just got 20 minutes of dishonour for dcing in an unranked. I understand that afking on purpose neeeds to be punished, but this seems to be going over the top. :X
I used to play on home bl a lot (and when not I usually romed enemy bl, never liked EB) but now it’s truly a desert. Before the new borders an attack on home Garri with WP was like a national emergency, the EB comm came over, Guilds came etc. just to hold when we scouted a large attack. Now people don’t even bother to flip our “Rampart” back when it’s a freecap. All the WvW that still exists in EB, and even there numbers are reduced. Before HoT 80-90% of my FL was in WvW, now it’s like 2 out of 12-15. Anet has truly killed WvW. I barely play it anymore either.
I’ve gotten used to the occasional lagspikes by now, but since two weeks ago or so there is another bug that ruins the game for me. Often my mouse cursor disappears, followed by 1-2 sec freeze of the screen and the Windows sound message of a device newly connecting. Note that his only happens in Guild Wars 2. It often occurs as often 4-5 times in a single PvP match, sometimes taking 5 seconds or longer until I can use my mouse cursor again. So it is basically unplayable. I’ve tried different ports for my mouse to make sure it’s not a hardware thing. It occurs both on the old 32 bit client and on the new 64 bit one.
Any ideas?
Right now we are the only international server with “high” coverage, since AG rose to “very high”.
So if you want a server with a good level of WvW activity but moderate transfer costs GH is the place to go.
I’d appreciate if this didn’t take as long to fix as the bugged Grenadier on Engi…
This event is massive bullkitten. Just Karmatrains all along, nobody even bothering to defend or upgrade anything. Well done, Anet. Guess it will be SPvP only for me this week.
It’s definitely worth it if you enjoy some kind of competitive play (even though it is not as much based on individual skill as sPvP it is arguably still a steeper learning curve than PvE), but I would not recommend it if you’re just in for the easy rewards. There are stituations like that in WvW, too (Karma Trains) but it is not what WvW is about. You will need to learn a few things, but if you run in a zerg (follow a commander) you can still contribute and have some feelings of success, while not being an experienced player yet. I’d say it is definitely easier to get into than sPvP, which can be quite frustrating for new players.
T5 EU (Gunnar’s Hold):
I find this “event” to be a complete disaster. Once you face a server that outnumbers you and you’re bound to fight at different spots at once while you barely have the coverage to fill one map (which is the usual case outside PT) it becomes completely impossible to defend a keep without WP. Usually it just ends up with 1 Server having WPs everywhere (home+EB Keep+SM, occasionally even enemy Hills/Bay) and the rest getting karma trained. Even if the imbalance within the matchup is not that significant, it is still a huge push for karma trainers, since it becomes more or less impossible to defend keeps without WP. Gold League servers might have the theoretic possibility to have scouts on all their maps, but if you defend your borderland with ~10 ppl while your only zerg is on EB it is simply not possible to have a scout at every tower and keep. For me this has only been a huge PvD event so far and I don’t like it. Fine to farm for a day or so but it gets incredibly boring.
Solo Roaming hasn’t changed that much, it’s easier to flip a camp when you’re alone or almost alone on hte map, but also less exciting since most of the time you know there will be no one coming for you.
> This “Event” sucks and should be removed asap.
Where can I actually find the results for the Fall Tournament?
The official leaderboards here are completely bugged:
https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/eu/wvwsilver
The page on the wiki is somewhat better:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/WvW_Fall_Tournament_2014
However the Global Standings are only updated as of Round 3, and if I check the results for week 4 (October 3-10), they are complete nonsense as well, since this:
Piken Square 277 400 5
1 Augury Rock [FR] 216 747 3
Gunnar’s Hold 170 178 2
wasn’t the match we (GH) played at all, as you can see here:
http://mos.millenium.org/eu/matchups/history/214
Like this it somehow appears to me as if the season was just some alibi for WvW content and nobody really bothers to even update the results, not even Arenanet.
Happens frequently as a Mesmer and it’s annoying as hell, fix asap pls.
Just remove it from Solo Q. It is FAR too gimmicky, you can easily dominate just by stacking up a lot of kicks/pulls and stability and hold the cannon. Why did they put it in in the first place? They were smart enough not to include it in the Team Q, so why the heck troll the Solo Q players with it?
I like it a lot. The Heal/Condicleanse (with Mender’s Purity) might be a bit inferior to Ether Feast, but the CD Reset is extremly strong for my build. I run a Hybrid build based on Phantasms (Rampager Gear for High Crit Rating), so my Duelist is THE top source of dmg because of the high base dmg + tons of bleed stacks. Opening with a Berserker, Duelist, and then another Duelist simpy hurts like hell and can be useful in quite a few situations. Especially when my Opponent in 1v1 runs a pretty offensive setup as well and has done quite a bit dmg early in the fight, so the Heal is not completely wasted. Also, the passive Reg is pretty strong when you have a lot of Stealth/Ports (if you use Staff and/or PU builds). Then only downside is the high CD, esp. because of the nice Condi Cleanse that Mender’s Purity now gives.
