What is GW2 Worth?

Can someone please clear up this confusing thought for me?

Looking at this from a newcomer perspective: I’m paying $50 for GW2 and HoT
Looking at this from a veteran perspective: I’m paying $50 for HoT
If we are both paying the same amount and both get HoT then HoT has kitten value to it, while GW2 appears to contribute nothing to the cost and is “free” or has no value.

Much more likely I think this $50 should show that part of the cost is for GW2, which certainly has value, and part for HoT, which we all expect to have good value.

By this logic then it only makes sense to me that a veteran should not pay the full $50 then? Does this look different to anyone else?

Future State of My Sylvari *spoilers*

So for everyone who finished LW, we know that it will only be a few more additions to the game before our master and creator kicks the bucket. Also the Pale Tree is dying. Both of these will leave the Sylvari in total disarray. What’s going to happen to my Sylvari character? Where do y’all think they will go from here? I liked the addition of the Nightmare Court because they raised good questions about the rigidity of following Ventari, but I haven’t liked how they made the NC such an evil counter to the Tablet. It’s like, either the Sylvari in-game strive towards an idealized concept of perfection or they are straight up evil and murderous. Will the writers finally give our salad people a middle ground after all this dust settles?

Vanilla Profession Question

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

As I get more excited with each elite spec that is revealed, I can’t help but wonder what the state of the vanilla professions will be. Are elite specs supposed to be upgrades or alternatives? Because once we get future sets of elite specs to choose between it will be easier, but right now with only one elite spec it seems that the vanilla professions are just not as exciting. Unless they make an elite spec that is actually worse than the vanilla, which I doubt they will do on purpose, I see no reason to not switch. I get a new weapon, more skills, it just seems like why stay a necro or a ranger when reaper and druid bring more to the table? Why don’t we lose a weapon we can use to balance it out?

Return of the Mini Luxon Siege Turtle please. You can even throw in the Mini Juggernaut as a balance whatever but I need my turtle back!

Improving the Flame Legion Leggings

My first character I made and my current main character is my beloved charr warrior (word up to my blood legion fellows). While I think it’s fair to say the charr have been given the least love out of all the races, most of the armor sets feel just tossed onto them, I find it odd that the light armored flame legion leggings add on a flaming tail while the medium and heavy armors do not. Although it seems minor, aesthetics drive this game a lot and Charrlie would look great sporting a molten tail. Why didn’t they just give all three armor classes this unique look? It bugs me.

That’s a fair point, I’ll probably put my Rev on the backburner then and pick his stats until we get a better sense after release.

Ok so I haven’t seen this topic too much, probably because we don’t know everything about the Rev yet, but based off of people’s views and especially those who have played the betas: What armor stats will you be rolling your Revenant with? I’m currently building up a glorious set for my Rev when HoT drops and I want opinions on if there will be a better option than zerker or if we can say that yet.

My problem with Mystic Toilet Recipes

I think a mistake you make is thinking bout the forge as a crafting station where the item is created. The text is:

“Zomoros rewarded you with….”

So it is not a trade or crafting something, but it is much more like an altar where you offer to the supreme being (Zomoros in this case) and if it pleases him he gives something in return. Some offerings are not acepted, some offering result in a random gift (RNG-based) and some offering result in a garanteed reward (the so called recipes). But it is not that Zomoros is making Lyss out of the ingredients you put in. He just has it and reward it as a thank you for the gift.

So from a lore perspective, it is perfectly explainable and ok.

that leaves the actual price. On a forum of a different game I had a talk just today bout exclusivity and pricing and I repeat what I said there.

I really like the Maserati GranCabrio. But as it costs 150000 euro it is really not worth the price.

People desire exclusive items cause it make them exclusive. That means that to be exclusive, it should not be easy to get.

Even if you would be right and the pricing is too steep…how do you think that the current owners of Lyss will react if it is reduced strongly?

I don’t want to delve too much into the economics of the recipes, as I am not an expert on it all, but I am much more focused on the lore bit. It seems like a rocky defense of calling it a legitimate gift when the item is being guaranteed much like an actual crafting recipe (with materials specific to forming the item, ex. pistol frame and ectos for Lyss) than like I hit jackpot on the MF slot machine.

You do make an interesting point on the exclusivity of these that I concede since they should be significant but not necessarily exotic. Perhaps a fair balance would be to upgrade certain rarer items in the game to be ascended quality, with a reworking of their recipe list to account for ascended materials? This would keep the prestige of owning these items while making their effort more about quality than quantity of materials, which makes it feel less grindy.

Also I think diversifying the pool of ascended weapons is good since otherwise a player that wants to be doing the most damage and use Lyss would be reskinning an ascended pistol. You’re just “offering” for a really expensive skin in that scenario.

My problem with Mystic Toilet Recipes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Flapjackson.1596

So I know lots of people understand the grind of GW2 and how there are many examples of things that feel like a grind for just the grinds sake, but I wanted to list a specific example of my issue with some of the Mystic Forge Recipes. Here we have the exotic pistol Lyss:
- 1 Eldritch Scroll (Simple Enough)
- 50 Mystic Coins (Makes sense, it’s the forge’s currency of sorts)
- 250 ectos (daunting but the gun is made out of mists, also gives it a sense of value)
- 250 Ori Barrels
Really? The recipes like these just seem like they got a little number crazy with assigning stacks of things as ingredients. This quantity defies logic. Am I making 250 pistols or just one? And with just one barrel and one frame I can make a gun with the stats as Lyss! This is just one of many examples I feel that ruin the sense of purpose in some of these grinds. Little changes here and there may not alter the prices significantly but at least I can then craft Whisperblade and feel like I’m making an actual sword, not dumping an entire armory into the MF. Please list more examples if you have any outside of the Mystic Forge, or at least try to tell me what the purpose of these recipes are outside of purposefully inflating the price of these items.

GW2 Tickets for Review (7 days & older)

in Account & Technical Support

Flapjackson.1596

Hello! I am hoping there is some way this message can be relayed to the GW CS team. I’m not sure if there is any overlap between the CS teams for GW and GW2 but I previously posted in the Account Issues to explain my situation and why I am not capable of contacting the GW CS team directly on their forums. I’m not even sure if there is a 3 day or older thread for the original GW. They are trying to help me recover a GW account that was hacked a while ago but due to the hacking my account got banned, probably for gold selling or some other third party thing, so I can’t even post on the forums to try and figure out my status. My ticket number is 46560 and I’d appreciate it if they could give me some feedback, last I heard from them was almost five days ago and I want to make sure everything is working out ok.

Trouble with link to old Guild Wars

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Flapjackson.1596

Flapjackson.1596

I am having an issue regarding the original Guild Wars and the fact that it is linked to my Guild Wars 2 account. I want to access my hall of monuments rewards but I can’t because my original GW account got hacked a few years ago so I stopped playing, but it is linked to my GW2 account through the similar email. This means that I am trapped with an account that gives me nothing. This might be better suited on the GW support forums but since my account is banned I can’t even access those. I submitted a request to have my GW account fixed but I haven’t heard back from them for multiple days now. I’m not sure if this is normal but if there is any advice that could be given I’d greatly appreciate it!
