Well it looks like we’re going to get a load of new content come November the 15th. So that’s only a couple of months after launch; and that almost rivals Trion’s content publishing.
If they decide to set the bar this high, and continue to keep supplying content at a steady rate, i’d say we’ll all be able to agree that content will be even greater in the next 6 months.
I’m looking forwards to saving up for the T3 cultural set. It’s one of my personal goals in the game, and to have the cost cut would actually make me sad as it would bring that goal much closer to me, but not through my own choice.
If Joe Bloggs next to me has the same T3 set but bought it through RMT then, hey, that’s fine. I’m not concerned about how Mr.Bloggs looks, i’m only concerned with how I look and the fact it took hours upon hours to get that set.
Aesthetics are subjective anyway – Personally I think the T3 norn armour is worth every penny. Some may disagree and they are welcome to that, but there are many cheaper sets out there that may appeal to their own aethetics.
Please leave the Cultural armour prices as they are. It’s something to work towards and the sense of accomplishment should not be forcibly diminished. And yes I work fulltime so i’m hoping it will take a good long while.
They should simply implement a 5 minute resale-at-full-value on all goods, to avoid these errors and bugs with ease.
I don’t quite understand. Surely the only negative thing about levelling too fast is that you end up skipping content and it becomes trivial (in other MMOs)
Here, you are auto-scaled anyway – so frankly, the only aspects of levelling are nicer gear to look at and augmenting your traits with greater freedom. Both are good things.
So yeah if someone could explain to me exactly WHY levelling to 80 is bad in a level-scaling game, that’d be nice thanks
Seems to me that in time the prices will equalise once the system has been ironed out.
But honestly what scares me the most is that the game is just over a month into its life-cycle and there is concern over whether legendaries are available or attainable for everyone.
Yikes.
Personally I’d say that Rift had a pretty good setup. For those who haven’t played Rift, every couple of months they would have mini-events and mega-events that spanned the entire landmass. These were not dynamic, they just used the current system that was in place, but basically ramped it up to 11. Players knew about the event weeks in advance, and the events lasted between 1 week and 1 month (roughly).
Making a game world completely ‘dynamic’ and ever-changing is possible but it also leads to a lot of content simply being missed out by new players. The way around this is phasing, but that’s not what GW2 needs.
I say, introduce dev-created events on a massive scale that span all areas of the world using the same mechanic (so as to avoid too many bugs etc) that do in fact change the way maps look/work and then have a major event after a couple of weeks that players can work towards!
Sorry for the no-quote but there’s no button! Were you previously on an alt that participated in events?
I know very little about orbs, but what if a realm gets 3 orbs, gets a 15% buff for a day, but the other 2 orbs are no longer theirs and are up for grabs.
I put in a help ticket about this before I had even heard about the DR and here is the reply I got from Steve
“I can certainly appreciate your frustration with changes to drop rates in some areas of the game. Unfortunately, the game has to be reworked from time to time to best work against exploitation. I understand that you had no nefarious intentions with the items collected in this area, but choices have to be made by the dev teams to minimize the damage across multiple segments of the population.”
how can I have “nefarious intentions” when I just play the game, don’t run with that stupid zerg and the items I collected in that area were porous bones, white items, and maybe an off the wall blue?
I am calling BS on Steve and Anet on this.
It has already been stated that DR at the moment is, for want of a better word, bugged… or too harsh.
If the mechanic is working on a bracket-based system, and you ventured close to the bracket (ie. in one area for too long or killing too many mobs of the same type, etc etc) then you’ll be flagged by the system.
He already stated that you were NOT nefarious. The system will be fine-tuned, but currently the only way to iron out the wrinkles in the current state of play is to come down hard and then soften each blow afterwards.
I hope that helps.
If Anet say that MF has a large contribution to whether you get seriously nice loot, then people will automatically spec for MF.
If Anet say that MF has very little contribution to the above, then people will go ballistic in the forum.
Seems to me that by not saying anything, it still remains an enigma stat that intrigues players, and as such, will not make it redundant.
Is it not true that bots can simply farm coin all day long from one event and suffer no downsides to this whatsoever?
Is it also true that a player can farm karma from one event all day long and suffer no downside to this whatsoever?
Is it also possible that Anet encourages farming but not on an industrial scale whereby all items are deemed moot because 50% of the population can get them within 3 weeks?
Sure they messed the DR up because they went too far. But too far and then softening is better than being too soft and slowly getting harsher.
If someone farms for 5 hours a day and gets hit by the DR (hypothetically) whereas a player farms for 4 hours and is never hit by it – which one is defined as a farmer?
The definitions of farming are a personal definition among all players, and as such, Anet have to work out where the ‘line’ is. They will always lose. So they start at the top, and work their way down.
1. yes
2. yes
3 no, because i want it to be perfect for them
4. yes
5. I hit diminishing returns on this one so an N/A will do!
I joke, I joke.
5. Is a mixture of yes and no – it gives me what I like, but not necessarily what I expected. More tuning of bosses please, with more mechanics!
It is funny how OP can distort some simple facts.
GW2 sold over 2M within 2 weeks after release, despite the fact that their digital sale was halted just 1 week after release.
MOP sold 2.7 M 1 week after release. It is sold in many highly populated regions that GW2 is not, including Taiwan, south korea, etc.
Oh, and Activision Blizzard’s stock price just made a new 52 week low point today, 10.98$. Congratulations.
If anything, I found the halting of sales the most annoying as my better-half wanted to get into GW2, but sadly we had to wait 2 weeks or so before Amazon had restocked!
So hang on. GW2 has been out a month and has already managed 2/3rds of the WoW accounts (presuming of course that the current WoW players would have bought the expansion in the first week anyway- as it is required to keep playing)
I’d say that’s pretty massive. And I somehow doubt that Anet were expecting to topple the giant on day one.
No..
2.7 million are first week sales of the expansion, and that does not include china. The actual number of active accounts are over 10 million.
So GW2 is at 1/5 of that, however GW2 has lost a lot of players since release and I highly doubt their active accounts are even half of their 2 million box sales. So in reality its probably 1/10th and declining from there.
Well my point was that numbers are generally skewed all over the place. Active accounts are not easily counted if we’re comparing old numbers to new. I’m basing my numbers on the absolutely requirement to continue playing WoW you MUST buy the MoP expansion. So it might be 3-4 million instead of 2.7, but I certainly don’t think it’s close to 10 million.
But I can’t see this thread being anything more than toing-and-froing. But just thought i’d share my opinion on the GW2 success!
edit: For some reason I thought you needed all of the expansions to play WoW. Seems I was wrong. Not to worry!

I’m hoping that the cities will be used much more as a Festivities hot spot throughout the year – and this could lead to a more permanent position in the community with ongoing ‘fluff’ activities – similar to the beer-brawling in Hoelbrak!

It’s the unfortunate Deer that seem to have incredibly bad timing when i’m looking for my final ‘mob type’ kill for my daily.
Run, run while you still can, Deer!
The guilt soon goes away though when I accidentally AoE his friends and get into a tough spot.
Transmute the L35 cultural armour later on when you have a full set of rares? I mean, it’s cosmetic after all – everyone out-levels that tiered armour. 22 hours is nothing at the end of the day.
Yea b/c thats not 2 hrs short of a whole day……
So you want the whole cultural set inside of a day? At 4 hours a day it’s just over 5 days.
I don’t think I need to say anything more than that.
edit: bad maths
The average player won’t sit in one spot farming though – the average player will be dancing around zones, doing hearts and DEs. Then flogging the mats they don’t want on the TP.
Gold farming in WoW is a different beast. Completely.
The puzzle in the Caledon forest killed me countless times and I think it wiped out around 15 people, all trying the same evil mushroom-jump, constantly for 2 hours. It’s just trial and error, with a bit of rage, then euphoria once you’ve made it

And beware of the ‘double-tap-W’ – that stuff ends lives.
Make sure you aren’t encumbered from combat as that will slow you right down and under-jump – and try your speed-buff when jumping around the trickier ones, that can give you a little bit more edge. Figuratively and literally.
