Becouse then you are forced to play pve. Easy.
How are you forced to play PVE? I never do PVE now and i have over 2million karma just from WvW, and Dungeons NPCs dont sell trinkets.
So some of you hate the new chests because it doesn’t reward you enough to do WvW? I seriously can’t understand that logic. I do WvW to pvp and to fight enemies, to enjoy skirmishes and big battles, not to go kill for a reward and expect 100% to get a precursor which seems to be the case with a lot of you lot making these kinds of threads. I get the feeling you guys are the same guys who posted in forums from other MMO’s after you got PKED and your gear dropped, but when YOU got an item for a player it was great because you got rewarded. Some of you are just unbelievable.
My feeling is that a lot of PvE players don’t even try out WvW because they hear of the crappy rewards… the more/better the rewards, the more people we’ll have in WvW — which is great for the lower tiers.
It amazes me that you can’t see a problem with that. People will never be happy if they expect to be rewarded for every single dam thing. Next they will want to be rewarded just for logging in. You should want to WvW or PvP because its fun, and you want to play your character and how you build him to fight. Getting a guaranteed rare is going to make you want to now suddenly want do WvW? Trying to bait PVE players with rewards is just going to cause a situation where people are still going to complain, like this thread. Currently the PVE crowd, just goes to every chest event, complain about not getting good stuff and leave. They will just do the same now, log in get their chest for the day and leave. They are not going to improve WvW in anyway. They just want their rewards and have no interest in helping your server win.
Correct me if i’m wrong but aren’t you able to buy trinkets for karma at the lvl 80 maps like cursed shore? And if you WvW you should have more karma then tokens.
You can only buy a handful of trinket sets from temples. Berkserker’s is an example of a set which you can not buy.
Yes but thats also the case for Dungeon token NPCs and Karma NPCs. They have the same thing as WvW but not zerker trinkets so thats a bad example. What im saying is yeah WvW only has Soldier but can’t he just exit the map and click a waypoint to see the other trinkets?

Thieves are better in WvW because they can disengage better from zerg groups. A ranger while being 1v1 king in BM bunker is not very good at running away from groups.
LB rangers provide nothing a staff ele can’t do better.
Staff ele is great but this is not about Ele’s so dont go that defensive lol. You are wrong when saying a thief can escape from a zerg better than an LB ranger. An LB ranger is in the back of the group and he can tell where to put his AoE, which targets to snipe off and most importantly he sees the battle unfold better than anyone else, if the ranger see’s its a lost cause he will be the first one out of there. A thief can escape any time during that battle of course but to say Rangers can’t escape lol? Looks you have killed bad players cause all the good Rangers already made it out alive.
Compare them in formats:
Open world Pve: Ranger. Pets is helpful and can tank mobs.
Dungeons: Thief. Shadow refuge, projectile destruction, highest single target DPS and second best aoe cleave DPS after warrior. The best spammable combo blaster in game with great aoe damage on shortbow. Ranger brings no valuable utility to a group besides healing spring and frost spirit (which you need to at least put 20 trait points into nature magic for, decreasing your value to a group as your DPS suffers).
WvW: Thief. Effective roamer, with plenty of escape mechanisms. Good in group fights with shortbow and Dagger Storm. Ranger’s pet dies in wvw immediately so a third of your damage is usually gone or can’t path to opponents from a tower.
SPVP: Ranger. Thief is great for 1v1 except against bunkers. Thief is too squishy for team fights in small spvp environments and loses value, whereas BM bunker and trapper rangers are very valuable and strong in tournie teams.
lol wat. You are gonna confuse him with your last 2 comparisons. in sPVP you will see lots of bunker rangers and most Rangers who solo roam in WvW are also bunker who can easily kill thiefs (thats not to say all thiefs, skill comes into play). But a LB Ranger provides a lot of damage in a zerg group battle and as for dungeons I may be a bit biased here but I am always the one rezzing the downed thiefs, sure they pack a punch but they cant take one back.
For Dungeons? Thief. 100% Thief. I played both of them and a ranger brings nothing you need in a dungeon. If you like the profession, idc, play ranger, they are not useless, but a thief is better.
I stated some of the things that Rangers bring to dungeons, such as a healing field and a pet that can heal teammates even though they rarely notice. You can’t just say such a biased statement without stating some examples.
To expand on the healing spring, I farm CoF P1 and when I’m running with a party multiple times I notice no one goes down when im constantly healing with my moas (which also give fury or protection) and providing a healing combo field. If remove my moas and healing spring, some ppl do go down especially at the last boss. Just something I noticed in my many runs for my quest to get a Legendary x.x
lol I hope no one is fooled by this. You can replace that ranger with any class in a zerker warrior party and it will be the same result. The reason why he is hitting that hard is because of the warriors and their banners and their might stacks. 1/10 for making me reply OP.
Ranger for sure. We can keep our distance and evaluate the situation and figure out how to help the team. Our distance also increases our survival and if you have GS for example you chose when to swoop in and and retreat when needed. Since you have a warrior you know that its a pretty straightforward class, go in and kill. As a ranger like I said you observe the situation, surroundings, and figure it what to do next, your next move could very well save your teammates life. Your Pet moa for example not only gives fury for 15 seconds but also heals ppl for about 3-4k. Your healing spring not only heals ppl but creates a combo field which they can further heal themselves when needed. Its a very rounded class, and when used right, very fun.
Also disregard the video above, which has nothing to do with what you asked lol. No Class is better than any other, Just good Players Vs Bad Players.
Edit: lol the guy deleted his video GG.
Was going to make this vid for my friends to interest them over the free weekend trial but I got busy. So might as well dedicate it to all the ele’s out there but especially excala who’s videos taught me a lot about elementalists.

I’m going to try a BeastMaster build since zerker isn’t great anymore, if that fails, I will probably work full time on my Warrior.
I personal have no issue with it… Granted I’m a little upset that I can’t super Rez people anymore but we BY FAR have the best quickness… I mean c’mon, we just can’t heal, if you’re popping QZ while you need to heal you’re just being dumb.
Warriors can be slaughtered mercilessly and easily durin their quickness due to almost always being front lines (where damage intake is higher to begin with) and then taking 50% more damage.
And thieves lose ALL endurance and can’t regen endurance AT ALL for 5 seconds, that hurts them for a while after its over as well seeing as how evasion dependent thieves are…
I wasn’t sure whether to reply to you or not but you have very little sense of what the convo is about here so I I will try and make you understand cause out of everyone here you are waay lost and misinformed.
The reason why our quickness is worse than a warriors is because we have dont have the HP pool that warriors do so they can take that extra 50% dmg, no one here is talking about YOUR ability to kill a warrior so save that trash talk. A thief can stealth and use that one ability they have to regain their endurance anyway. You are right about one thing, no one would use QZ while they have the need to heal, it’s an offensive attack and most people will use it from a distance that said, why give it a stun break, it is not needed and worst of all it puts us Rangers in a bad spot where we can’t heal which is worse than the other classes get, just for a stun break. We were “buffed” according to Anet but it was a bs addition so that we could be happy and accept it.

Again they didn’t think things through with the consequences for the ranger. They meant to fix thief/warrior burst, saw that “heck, rangers are affected by this as well, let’s give them something in return”.
Only thing is that we got more nerfed again:
- Only 50% speedboost (affects all quickness using classes) <- Nerf
- 5 seconds of not being able to heal instead of 4 seconds <- Nerf
- Breaks stun <- Fix, bringing it up to par on how it works for other classes
- Using it as a stunbreaker means you can’t heal for 5 seconds, an eternity in pvp <- Poorly thought through and implementation
- Zephyr’s Speed now only boosts speed by 50%, same duration as before <- Nerf
- Zephyr’s Speed and Quickness affecting both ranger and pet, both got nerfed through this <- The nerf hits us harder than other classes, as usual
I meant my post to be something like yours but alas I have bad formatting, thx for making it easier lol.
Hell, I think even if they will change QZ they will say like “u see we buffed you!” It is always like this with us, they take something or just forget to implement it, then we beg for several months to give it back- they give it and take something else.
This is one of the things that bug me the most. They don’t see how rangers can’t escape dangerous situations as well as other classes. I can see them gathered around a table and going down the list then reaching Rangers and saying “ehh they gun be mad, just give em a stun break like the rest”. We are not fairly adjusted to the game in my opinion.
More importantly, 50% speed feels incredibly underwhelming in practice. Considering the duration to recharge ratio, I don’t think the penalties are even necessary now.
I got the feeling that most people would stop using QZ but I can’t accept that it took Anet this long to give us a stun break and did it just to say that we at least got something. this patch. A few people welcome this new change and I just want to see their view on it.
While 5s of no healing is kind of annoying, other classes (War/Thief) already have stun breaks on their quickness skills. It was unfair that QZ didn’t have it.
Yes I noticed this when I made a warrior but as I put in my post I believe we have the greatest penalty compared to others. Those other classes can still heal after using their quickness skill to stun break which does not put them in the same messy situation as us.
I have played my Ranger since launch and I ask all my Ranger fellows to please read the following before closing this thread down. Personally I dislike the changes made to quickness but for the better of the community and balance I’m okay with it being globally.
So what does QZ do?
- It gives you a boost of 50% attack speed (instead of 100% now) at the COST of not being able to heal for 5 secs and a stun break (added this patch).
Cons about Quickess?
-Rangers are not able to heal for 4 seconds (now 5 secs.)
-Warriors suffer 50% more damage.
-Thiefs lose 100% endurance.
So why is this important, we all have a con anyways?
-Yes but Rangers who already have low escape ability (unless your GS/Sword ranger but that does not speak for all builds) suffer more than other classes. Warriors have higher HP pool and usually use Quickness when they want to kill instantly and can take the damage and heal if they need too. A thief can stealth away if needed and heal, sneaky kittens. That said a ranger can’t heal so if QZ backfires we can’t always run away or take the damage like a warrior can (who can still heal during quickness).
What is the problem with this new QZ?
I feel that in order to make the Ranger community happy about the Quickness reduction speed, Anet decided to give us a stun break that we have constantly asked for but they made the mistake of adding it to QZ. This makes a very poor combination!
Whats wrong with stun break and QZ?
When you use a stun break typically you expect it to be in a defensive skill such as a heal or skill that simply removes a condition. This is done with the purpose of wanting to remove yourself from a nasty condition and situation. Using this new skill to break a stun will now also come with the punishment of 5 secs of not being able to heal!!
A simple typical scenario is you get stunned and take some damage and you realize you are stunned so you use QZ but now you also can’t heal and have to endure the next 5 seconds in a danger zone. The other classes don’t suffer this huge penalty and any experienced player can tell you that 4 seconds was terrible enough but now 5 and to add it to QZ of all skills?
What am I asking to change? (A brainstorm of ideas)
– I would like QZ to be back to 4 secs since I believe we suffer more from using our Quickness skill. (1 sec makes a huge difference in pvp, it can mean life or death)
-Change the amount we heal for while under QZ, for example instead of not being able to heal make it so we only heal for 30% or a fair amount of HP.
-Add the stun break to one of our other skills instead of QZ.
-(anyone who agree’s then please put write down your idea.)
I am very interested to hear anyone’s thoughts or even arguments against this, please comment and hopefully we can get some feedback from Anet.
I used to run with SB and Axe/Horn build before it was nerfed or “fixed” as some would put it. After many hours of WvW and currently 9k+ kills under my belt this is why i ditched my SB and went LB/GS.
The SB for the most part forced me to get to close to enemies and be singled out easily, when there is a Warrior next to you or a Guardian enemies tend to go for the ranger first (especially thiefs and dagger ele’s). With the LB I have a great view of the fight and a good distance to decide my next move and I’m usually to far away that I only expect one arrogant enemy to stereotype me and try to sneak up on me, but I’m already waiting to switch to my GS.
In wvw I use my LB to AoE siege on keeps, and you WILL always be attacking a tower or a keep so being able to play a big role is awesome. I always run with my LB especially to get the first few hits in, but I use my GS to do the main fighting and switch back to LB to kill anyone trying to escape.
For PVE, I actually use the same build and it still works very nice. I just try to remember to keep my distance and then I burst in with my GS and QZ and deal a good chunk of dmg then I retreat and back to my LB. You’d be surprised how many people close in on enemies in PVE with their LB and don’t take advantage of the distance you can have.
As for condition ranger build I advice againts it unless your doing spvp. I won’t elaborate on that too much unless you want me to when I get home.
And for berzerk gear personally I’d use LB, you’d be to squishy that if your SB fails to do the job you are probably about to die lol. Before using my current build I was desperately trying to replace the SB/QZ combo and in that I found out that LB/QZ with skill number 2 can actually sum1 with medium/light gear just in that one go, and if you fail to kill, then you still have enough distance to run away.
I run into mostly SB rangers in WvW and they are always an easy kill compared to my LB, and when I do face a smart LB ranger, they keep their distance and decide if to engage fully or retreat.
I’m at work so thats all I can gather atm but I’m thinking of posting a LB video soon just not sure if the interest is there yet lol.
I normally don’t let these jokes get to me as my built rarely dies and I usually shock everyone. That said I mostly do WvW and the LB #5 AoE is really helpful againts siege so I said in Map chat “If you’re a ranger you should be aoing their ballista”. A thief then replied, “If you’re a ranger you should reroll a thief” and everyone started laughing in map chat….I was indeed kitten off since I still was the only ranger killing the siege on my own which I managed to do while everyone was adding to the ranger jokes.
The thief who said that insult was a bad thief anyways lol, saw him get owned many times but meh.
This video is basically how we all feel atm lol. Nicely done and good job on all the issues you brought up. Needs more views.
Wow I was raging earlier, thinking this is just going to damage the community a bit. I was also thinking I will wait a bit longer since I can just play Black Ops 2 and try that out. Then I remembered…..that Thanksgiving and Christmas are around the corner. No doubt ANet employees are going to be on holidays like crazy and working on events rather than our Rangers. Sigh.
If your fighting a zerg with your zerg and you want to be sniping you will aoe with longbow and hit targets while keeping your distance, that said you won’t be dropping ppl left and right instead you will be assisting in killing. The Longbow is just to slow to kill ppl in zergs in good numbers in WvW, even when you use QZ most people should be able to quickly retreat (any good players) and be “out of range” or "obstructed..
As for can we take a hit? No not really. Its not impossible to run away and outsmart some stupid ppl. But if you think you’re going to be escaping a zerg or a thief MOST of the time, you’re wrong lol. Rangers don’t really have good escaping options.
Basically, (assuming you are using Longbow since you want to snipe)
-Keep your distance and don’t be in the front lines.
-Accept you are not a heavy damage dealer and use your Longbow AOE’s to control a zergs movement and snipe off any enemy separating from a zerg (don’t be dissapointed if they run away, it’s going to happen a lot, we don’t have many crowd control skills)
There are different builds of course, I play all of them during WvW to keep it interesting. I was just doing Longbow Glass Cannon and died only like twice and escaped many times only because I was never in the front to be first killed lol.
