So out of curiosity…

I’m using

Vipers stats
Sword: Sigil of Ice
Axe: Sigil of Torment

Could I possibly use Rune of Ogre? The Rock Dog is really neat, and fairly useful in solo PVE though. But if the stats are complete crap, and Grenth works out so much better I’m willing to give it up. Just curious how much I’d be really losing by going with Ogre….

It’s not that it will make it good. Condi rev is already good, the problem is that it doesn’t have any ranged condi damage, which is what shortbow provides

I’m assuming the skills do then? Cuase don’t really see any in the traits heh.

Seconded. The instant blinking in and out of existence is so bland, and immediately reminds me I’m in a video game rather than a fantasy world. It doesn’t have to be too fancy. Just some kind of teleportation animation. Pleeeeease?

Fancy things could definitely be a store item. Path of Exile has fancy portals, and you can get some pretty kitten ones.

I’d love to see portals that players open when using a waypoint. Of course leave instant as an option.

However, I’d really like to see the option of having my Sylvari grow roots and thorns out of the ground, to create a portal they walk through. My necromancer can summon a giant skull where I walk into its mouth, and it chomps down. Blood Stones stab something in the air creating a swirling red portal.

Even have a puddle where several Quaggan jump in before you.

I’d really would just like something to happen other then instant teleportation.

I tried many different variations, it doesn’t help. Ugh, this is so annoying.

I’ve heard rumors of a Power/Condi/Ferocity set that could work since we don’t need the precision of Vipers… But, after the food nerf I think Viper’s will still be king for the expertise.

Well, getting the torment from the crit sigil, plus the buff you get from Renegade when you crit would make you want Precision, no?

I’m thinking that we’ll likely be specing Corruption, Invocation, and Renegade when the elite comes out, and with Rolling Mists from Invocation, precision will likely not be an issue, so I don’t see a reason to lose the expertise from Viper’s.

We won’t have easy access to fury after we lose Glint, so I personally wouldn’t drop precision as a stat completely. I’ll be running Viper’s.

And who can say no to a Pokemon?

I’m with you though, I feel like Precision will still be pretty useful. I haven’t seen Renegades spec traits though.

If you take Abyssal Chill, then you can get some good torment off of sword 2, especially if you run sigils that chill on hit/critical, or weapon swap. It’s not a complete fit, but we can output enough chill from mainhand sword to at make it work if you don’t want to use mace. This is assuming you’re running something hybrid related and can make use of power damage for sword autoattacks as well, which Viper’s does fine, in my experience.

Ah, yeah I want sword/axe purely because it is so fun teleporting all over the place.

So take some Chill sigils, and go for Viper then? Looks like Rune of Grenth would be better than Rune of Ice. Using Ogre right now heh.

What kind of build would you suggest then? Mine is kinda random crap thrown together atm haha.

Thinking

Armor – Rune of Grenth
Sword – Sigil of Ice
Axe – Sigil of Torment

I never liked passive buffs anyways. Chance on’s are far more interesting.

As of now, I don’t know of any new condi stat types for rev that will outshine Vipers’, but I could be wrong. Until then, I will be using Viper’s stats for Renegade when it comes out since the Griever’s stat doesn’t give condi duration.

Condi specific doesn’t really meld well with sword/axe though right? Is there a middle ground that would benefit both?

Plan on using Sword + Axe, and Shortbow. Renegade and likely Assassin stance (I like the CC and speed).

Curious what stats I should be looking at. I do know that the Shortbow has some fervor buff which you can gain from crits, so I’m thinking Precision might be good.

Major snip

So for me, I’m glad they went the route of having a vertical HoT. It is indeed frustrating at times, but it is super unique! I haven’t seen a map like it in any MMO, ever. It is grand, beautiful, and exploring is more fun than any area of any MMO.

It really sucks that you don’t like having to explore to get to your places, but I understand thats part of “Play your way”, but in this instance, there isn’t a way to get a unique feeling like this without it being kinda slightly niche.

My complaint though, which we both agree on I believe, is the part where you mentioned you need 2 abilities which you don’t have yet to get to an event. That right now, is what sucks about HoT. Not only that, but having to chase down masteries makes it even worse.

Renegade cosmetic changes request

in Revenant

Posted by: Fractured.3928

Fractured.3928

Just a couple things feel off cosmetically, otherwise the rest of it seems awesome!

1. The easier of the two. Please change the stance of the Legion troops that buff people. When they are pointing a direction, but it’s buffing someone behind them, it looks….wrong, breaks the feel wrong. Why not have them thrusting their weapon into the sky, makes the buff direction a lot more neutral.

2. The Bombardment is a really awesome idea. However, it doesn’t look or feel anything like artillery. I’d either say its archers (Cause even the picture doesn’t have artillery in it, just troops for some reason), which would pretty much resolve my issue. Or, make it so the shorts seem to lob a bit or something and have more of an impact. It just looks like arrows, not artillery.

Thats really it, otherwise Renegade looks awesome!

Fractured.3928

After reading through this thread, am I seriously the only person struggling with Mastery points? I’m training capped in every single category except Exalted and Gliding due to having those finished.

All these people saying it isn’t an issue.

The issue imo, is that it gates content. I seriously don’t mind leyline challenges requiring the leyline gliding, or Exalted Gathering to get the specialization weapon. They are goals to reach.

But, it sucks that in order to do a lot of the content in the game, I have to do very specific things I don’t really care to do. I’ve capped everything, so I obviously play in HoT a lot. But I only play in sort spurts most hte time, I want to go do Dragons Stand, or do some fun events. I don’t want to have to go off and do some mini-games I don’t enjoy to make it so I can finally glide across the map properly, or to even do specific events in Dragons Stand.

My personal opinion, make it so Mastery Points unlock via both XP, and challenges and such. A way to get them faster, but you still get them just by playing the game.

Gliding Vs. Mounts?

Fractured.3928

I’m actually OK with a more open map cramming things into such a tight space is part of the problem with Tangled Depths. More room should equate to less mob density. Also another issue with HoT was all the gliding restrictions or mobs that shot you out of the air so you couldn’t utilize movement in much of the maps.

I mean, I’m not saying the map should be so heavily restricted like it was in HoT. That WAS kind of annoying. I’m all for some of it being held off, but the amount they did was kind of insane.

I just don’t see giant maps as being the resolution. Unless they do it right. But a bland desert compared to one of the most unique and beautiful maps I’ve seen in an MMO….eh. I hope it isn’t as bland as I think it will be.

Here is another question, if the maps are bigger, will we get an increase to the population cap? If not, that might suck heavily.

Gliding Vs. Mounts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Fractured.3928

One major benefit of mounts is that instead of relying so heavily on multilevel to increase map size they won’t be afraid to make the map large in terms of area.

Large maps aren’t always great though, they tend to have a lot of bloat (Pointless, or boring areas).

I thought HoT was amazing in its level design, every area had something awesome and/or beautiful.

Tangled Depths wouldn’t be hte hell it is if they didn’t put the most annoying monsters crammed into every corner.

Gliding Vs. Mounts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fractured.3928

Fractured.3928

Im a little surprised how many people say they dont wants mounts after seeing so many posts about it for the last 5 years in the forums

There is a huge difference between asking and wanting. Indeed, for the past couple of years players have been asking about mounts, and that because many came from other Massive Multiplayer Online games containing mounts. They asked of this mechanic to see if it exists in this game, but this does not mean they wanted mounts here, nor does it mean they needed mounts here.

This game has waypoints, mounts are redundant. ArenaNet introduces mounts with purpose: reaching locations; and all of a sudden mounts are no longer a mechanic as we know it from other games: fun traveling from point A to point B and C (especially when we must unlock masteries to upgrade mounts).

That is why we now have a problem. Reaching higher and higher could have easily been achieved not by mounts, but some character travel spells (Dry Top?). All that time spent to design mounts and mechanics for mounts, could have been better spent in other PvE content, or adding some diversity to PvP with new game modes, or adding some new mechanics to lure players in WvW and not leave it deserted.

First Off: I’m not a fan of the mounts

But, I’m pretty sure the biggest thread on these forums is people requesting mounts in the game.

Best suggestion to increase outfit sales

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Fractured.3928

The idea of outfits is horrific in most cases imo.

Saying it is to make them “Seamless”. They will be seamless with or without them being armor pieces. Just let me break the seam and add my own twist if I so choose so!

If it looks absolutely terrible, well I won’t break the seam.

I mean hell, they could even break specific parts off that would make some outfits sell REALLY well. Think if you could transmog one of your accessories (Or something that normally cant be transmoged) and get the Zodiacs blue skin effect.

The Zodiac armor is horrific, but I think the skin effect is awesome. I’d be willing to pay for that.

They did skins in the beginning but its too much work to fix every little clip for the 6 pieces of armor for each of the 5 races for both sexes and the 3 different types of armor, apparently. one skin fits all just easier. But i agree this is fashion wars!

Yeah, I’m well aware of their excuses but I’m also too tired of them. This is a problem they have, but it’s a problem they needed to have fixed years ago.

They actually use that as an excuse? As if they aren’t the only AAA MMO saying that? If they just straight up with with outfits and thats it, I personally wouldn’t play anymore lol.

Why aren't Anet adding playable races?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Fractured.3928

From what I remember, almost non of the NPC dialogue is race specific outside of the beginner story.

So really, besides creating the same race specific intro that each race has to a new race, which would be expected, there wouldn’t be anything different to a new race.

They would however, have to pay new voice actors. Which well, they already do, adding all the new NPCs, bosses, and storyline stuff. What is 1 more? Especially if you want to grow your game, which makes your game more viable for different people.

Honestly it can’t work. Action Cam is extremely clunky, and theres really no way to make it work better without disorienting view point snapping, or having to use exclusively use tab targetting. Another problem is ground target, which insanely difficult to use without a high vantage point from the camera.

If the core of the complaint by these folks is not seeing their hands in frame…… then they really have no idea what they want.

I don’t see how ground targeting is insanely difficult? There are a lot of things that would be difficult in 1st person, ground targeting is not one of those.

But there are already 1st person games that use ground targeting. The target just goes where your mouse currently is pointing towards. Basically just how it is now, but with a different angle.

Won’t be as easy to effectively do it, but I wouldn’t say anything more difficult than anything else as first person.

Hey there. I started gw2 a year after launch and played it pretty hardcore until HoT came out.
I tried HoT and i hated it (PvP wise) and i quit the game. I tried getting into it a few times since then but now with the new xpac comming out i want to actually play gw2 again.

My problem is, all i do is basically pvp and i dont know any of the pve content of HoT at all.
What is there to do? Are fractals/raids profitable to make some gold? Should i bother trying to level that whole mastery system?
And… How do i have fun in the game other than pvping now days?

Thanks!

Start with the story, I think it is really fun. And as you are traveling the map, just do the events for fun. You’ll level mastery stuff in no time.

Also, each HoT map has a map wide event. Feel free to find a group, they usually call it out in map and join it! I really like them personally.

Best way to play GW2 imo, is don’t necessarily have a goal, just explore and find stuff to do. If you feel you need a goal, definitely follow the story, and everything will fall into place with that.

Am I the only person who really liked HoTs? I thought it was unique, gorgeous, and the map wide events were fantastic. Also gliding was more fun than I thought it would be.

Tangled Depths is still hell though.

Far from being alone. HoT is a superb work of game art and systems, with poor marketing and worse content delivery timing giving it a bad image.

I, personally, just love gliding, the NPC stories, the challenging foes and the Maguuma Jungle. It is gorgeous: Verdant Brink is for me the best MMORPG map ever made, period. The elite specs and masteries mechanics were more hit and miss for me, but they are great mechanics and an a truly creative way to solve the problem of character progression.

So far, PoF is way more lacking to me. I’m sure I’ll buy it eventually, because I love GW2, but mounts, hypertrofied maps and GW1 nostalgia are not my cup of tea.

HoT was a piece of garbage. All it gave us was ugly jungle maps, that we skimmed over, ruined fractals and removed dungeons. HoT was the biggest plague of an expansion. It had 0 gear progression and made everything unrewarding and tedious.

I mean, for a game that has basically prided itself on not having gear progression….I wouldn’t think you’d be surprised by this?

I am not too fond of the ever increasing number of travel mechanics. They should have left it at gliding, then coming up with mounts would have been cool news. Now, with the tons of mechanics shoved down our throats since HoT, it’s just giving me a headache already.

Okay, have to get on my raptor, leap over this cliff, then glide down to this area, where I have to get on my bunny to hop up this area, and get on my weird fish floaty thing to do what it does, back to my raptor to jump across, and back to the…..etcet

Pretty amazing that a Deluxe edition bonus is so poorly implemented. I know clipping is a problem for a lot of skins, but this is supposed to be an incentive for players to buy the higher tiers of the expac and as it stands this will probably turn a lot of players off.

Also, the outfit honestly looks so basic to me. I’m really tempted to load up a human character and do a mix-and-match armor set to see how close we can get to this outfit with current armor skins.

Oh yeah, to me, this is what I expect a character to look like when they finally finished Queensdale. Not entering the 2nd expansion.

Not that I hate the idea, but I think people need new things added and mounts are just a bonus.

The END IS NEAR if they add unique mounts to the BLTC (I mean totally unique, not just offering a skin to make your rabbit pink instead of red.)

My assumption is, they will base them off of “Types” or species. As an example, we could get a Kangaroo mount that jumps far. Unique in its look, but same ability.

Of course there will be new map events. Tell me a map in GW that doesnt have one???
And one of the new things are “Hunts” where you will hunt open world bosses for rewards.

Almost all the vanilla maps? Yes, most have a major boss, with a quest chain. But that is just a few small events, that go into a semi-large event for a boss battle. Cool yes, but it is hardly map wide. Just a larger than normal event.

The hunts, depending on how they are done, could be really fun. I wish we got more info on that (I haven’t seen any at least?). If it’s just heres a big bad boss, go kill it, meh, we have those already.

Yeah we got elite specs, mounts (Which are super meh imo), and a desert….

With HoT we got a unique lush, fairly vertical jungle map that I haven’t really seen in an MMO. We got awesome map wide events that brought everyone together, and had people working as a team. With a new class on top of that.

While the features may be neat, what about the bread and butter? Mounts and a new elite spec aren’t going to be enjoyable for long if the maps themselves don’t have something to keep us around.

So far, I’ve got no reason to pre-order the expansion, and my friends have lost interest. I’m really hoping its more than a flat desert, and a few gimmicks added.
