Illusionary Ally [TFD]
Devona’s Rest
The only ‘fraud’ I could think of is if they open it up and people start selling items for gold via gifting. I doubt this would happen because of two things, a) it would be a large undertaking to keep everything straight on actually making gold from it and b) the fraudulent count could sky rocket.
Like I said I doubt people would even do that because you have to calculate, Gems to Gold and Gold to Gems per day, possibly per hour with the rate it changes to make sure you are not losing money. You would have to figure out much gold it takes to get 1 gem, multiply that by the amount of gems required, then figure out how much gold you get from that amount of gems to make sure you are making money….lots of work.
Well yesterday whenever I used the total make over kit I was able to set the glow just fine. It’s not exactly ‘spectacular’ its just a little extra.
You can gift them gold already that they can convert to gems. Gifting gems opens up just another issue to the game.
It opens nothing up, it means people can just send other people useless items from the gem store. I agree this needs to be done, every other game has this function and there are no problems with it.
There is a limit on the amount of items shown yes. I have not actually found a limit on the amount of items that can be put in it at once and I trade 10000’s of items in a single session (overnight).
I got an answer to my support ticket saying it was resolved, logged in and found that I received the gold from the items I sold. So just be patient and send a support ticket in.
Lost a little under 3g to this issue.
Submitted a ticket so hopefully it gets resolved.
Where do we go if the trading post ate our gold from selling items? I placed a support ticket but, not sure if I sent it to the proper area.
Whenever I logged into the forums main page it said something about maintenance today. So I would probably say it has to do with that.
The most recently played always ends up on the left side of the screen.
I agree Majorkong, the Mystic Forge is all about the math and nothing more. You can make large sums of cash IF you are patient, play smart, and know how to do math. Simple as that I’ve made 4 gold today so far just fiddling around here and there with it.
So I know that a lot of people are angry at several different things with the game but, I still think we should extend are gratitude towards ArenaNet’s team for attempting to better the game in either direction they so choose, this shows a lot of dedication to their game.
The community staff while many people are disappointed in how they work, is doing a really good job with the communication on several of the topics of discussion.
I would just like to say thank you to all those that take time to reply to us their customers whenever they have a chance; not many game company developers and community staff do such a thing. While there are hundreds of threads a day that pop up even the little posts that is given in some of the random topics should be appreciated especially since there are so many active voices on these forums.
Once again, thank you and hopefully you guys had a great holiday.
Okay so this is my theory craft on an interesting concept that I’d like others inputs on for the ultimate support shatter based build.
This build is 20/20/0/0/30, specializing in creating 25 stacks of vulnerability on multiple players.
Concept:
The concept is simple, this build is all about creating the most effective ability to increase the damage output of your teammates against multiple players. We do this by increasing the stacks of vulnerability to the maximum through our traits.
The trick here is to stack Dazzling (Daze causes 3 seconds of vulnerability.) with Imbued Diversion (Diversion hits multiple targets.) to increase the amount of possible vulnerability stacks in an area. We know that daze causes interruption so Illusion of Vulnerability will be applied whenever we interrupt a foe and also Rending Shatter is applied whenever we activate Diversion.
The other traits chosen are required to increase survive-ability of ourselves. Retaliatory Shield, Confusing Cry and Masterful Reflection each grants Retaliation or Reflection to add insult to injury.
Would love to hear everyone else’s opinions on this build.
Thanks for all the wonderful information, I was actually looking into this because I know it absorbed attacks but, didn’t really know much more about the ability. Can anyone tell me what increases its damage?
Pretty much what the title says does anyone use mimic and if so what stats improves its damage, how many projectiles will it absorb and how much damage does it do?
LotRO wasn’t the only company to introduce something like this, several years back EverQuest II introduced something called Critical Mitigation. It was only on raid gear at the time, then began being placed throughout the game in Solo, Group and Raid dungreons. It took 4 years to completely remove it from the game.
A single factor that takes any form of skill outside of the players hands such as a limiting factor shouldn’t be added into any game. Remember your players are your customers and while some players might enjoy a debilitating condition placed on themselves not all your players will, ultimately you might lose some customers over this issue if its not handled the right way.
Give condition damage to scepter, and give the clones conditions as well. Right now the scepter is classified as a condition weapon, but the only condition on it is confusion from #3.
Change the interrupt traits so that they are either more useful, or just replace them.
Make warden ground targetable, I can’t count how many time it spawned in a useless angle.
When clones go in for a shatter, they should run faster, teleport, shatter as a projectile, or at least continue running to the mob and shatter in the spot even if the mob dies.
Make mantras less trait dependent.
Make Portal have a max use of 5, return the old cooldown.
Some of these I completely agree with and others I completely disagree with, I’ll put in bold the ones I agree with and in italic the ones I disagree with.
Starting from the top going down.
Adding additional condition damage to the scepter I completely agree with under the base principal as that’s how that particular weapon acts. It acts as a condition single hand weapon much like the staff.
Alternative Suggestion
I disagree completely about changing the interrupt traits. I personally believe that the trait tree should be redone to create better synergy between the entire line. Mesmer’s contains a large portion of interrupt skills and everything that says Stun or Daze causes interrupt. I just believe its all about trait placements and that is why no one is choosing the interrupt traits—well besides me.
The Phantasmal Warden should be a ground target, it would make this ability insanely useful. However that being said, it does move whenever its not in range of a person. So it would have to be permanently rooted into the ground for this change to be possible.
Illusion shattering is one of the Mesmer’s key abilities, illusions should always shatter whether the target dies or not. If an illusion is running after a target and that target dies, it should shatter over its corpse.
Mantra’s should definitely be increased in power but, to what extent I do not know because personally they are too weak for my taste. Wasting 50+ traits to get them up to par with other abilities seems like a waste of potential for my character. While I have seen other threads with posters stating how they have made a healing Mesmer with Mantra’s etc, I’d really like to hear from them about this issue.
Completely agree with Portal and a max number of usages.
Could we get some screen shots of the new dungeon please?
Plasma, I completely agree with #4 and #5 although #1-#3 are a little out there and #6 would mean that the scepter becomes useless because you would have to remove the stack of 5 from it, as well as the Torch #5 skill would lose confusion.
Overall, I believe that there wouldn’t be a radical change to the effects from your post. I do think its an interesting concept about summoning illusions and having the bubbles fill and stay filled even if the illusions die…the only problem I could see is it being bugged allowing only 3 bubbles to be filled and no more illusions to spawn or having unlimited number of illusions spawning. Nice concepts though.
I’ve noticed a lot of negative feedback about the one-time event that took place today. While I was very disappointed that the server was lagging so terribly, I would just like to say you guys did a really good job on it.
Feedback:
Just my 2 cents.
From all perspectives, I would like to suggest a few minor tweaks that could be helpful for the Mesmer class. These suggestions are after playing with the recent changes and knowing what I was able to do before and after them.
Scepter Improvements
Sword Improvements (Main Hand)
Focus Improvements
Torch Improvements
Pistol Improvements
Staff Improvements
Illusions Improvements
Shatter Skills Improvements
Utility Skills Improvements
These are just a few minor tweaks to things I would like to see to help make a few skills worthwhile to use. Currently there are a lot of traits bugged and I will get into that at a later time but, wanted to see what everyone else thought of these suggestions.
I would personally love to see Pistol as a main hand weapon.
As far as portals go, there is really only one solution—Remove them from WvWvW—this is the only circumstance that portals are actually abused by players. Portals themselves are not as useful in any other place as they are in WvWvW.
Do I support this idea? No I do not.
Is there an alternative? Not really. If they choose any other option players will find another way to abuse them, even if that means bringing more Mesmer’s.
Removing a skill from the game simply because of WvWvW seems like a bad move on any game publishers part, you simply put restrictions on it where its being abused. Also there are actual items that function as portals so even if they remove Portal from Mesmer people will just start using the items.
Spend 1 silver, create a new guild and the two of you join that guild to use that bank whenever you want to access that particular bank.
So all-in-all the vendor price of said crafted part is kind of null as you wouldn’t (shouldn’t) be vendoring it anyway. Only time I see it slightly annoying is if you’ve made too many sigils/runes and want to just vend them to break even (but even then the TP often yields more).
Another scenario is if you need a quick few silver/gold and all you have are the second components, not the raws.
This post has nothing to do with the trading post, which everyone seems to think should be the center of attention. The trading post will adapt to the vendor prices, if you have vendor prices out of whack; the trading post will be out of whack. As for all the items on the trading post that aren’t selling, there is a simple answer to that—there is no demand for those items, which is different than what I am talking about.
This about gaining experience stuff, is just lame. No person in their right mind in real life or in any fantasy land would create an item just to sell the finished product for less than they could get out of raw materials.
How is it lame and not in the right mind to save hours upon hours of grinding?
Not the fact that you gain experience but, the fact that gaining the experience reduces the amount of money you get from vendors, is what I was talking about.
Edit: To clarify, the vendor price of raw materials is irrelevant, only the player-market price (where they can actually be purchased for use) is relevant. Items either have a non-trivial value, or are valued at approximately the vendor rate (the trivial case). Changing the vendor rate only shifts the trivial point, but does not increase the value of the consumed product.
When the value is already trivial and I am only making it for skill, this trivial price point is what prevents me from creating an overabundant supply, while forcing me to lose enough coin that I cannot just sit and craft constantly.
The bold section of this is inaccurate. You wouldn’t be able to constantly craft but, a few items. Once you out leveled the items you would be in the same boat as everyone else, you have two choices you either harvest your resources or you buy them off the trading post.
At this moment in time crafting is not worth it in any aspect unless you are searching for legendaries, in which case I am not. I don’t care about having the best of the best gear, I enjoy playing my own way which is experiencing every bit of the game so why should I be punished by crafting versus killing creatures. I can do both just as effectively, but I lose money one way but, make money another….just doesn’t add up.
This post isn’t a rant about crafting and how you can’t make money at it…
Whenever you look at other games crafting systems one thing is clearly noticed, you can make money by crafting. This reply isn’t about how your OP was contradictory, but the one thing that is clear is that you contradicted yourself in your post.
I didn’t contradicted myself, I never stated that we should make money off crafting. I was just wondering the concept behind why whenever you craft an item with raw material you can sell that raw material to a VENDOR for more than the finished product.
This about gaining experience stuff, is just lame. No person in their right mind in real life or in any fantasy land would create an item just to sell the finished product for less than they could get out of raw materials.
This post isn’t a rant about crafting and how you can’t make money at it, it’s entirely about how crafting raw material into an item and that item selling for less than the same amount of raw material would sell. This is not about the trading post, but about the selling to actual vendors.
Whenever you look at other games crafting systems one thing is clearly noticed, you can make money by crafting. While most of their systems do not actually increase adventuring experience I don’t see how that is enough to make up the sheer fact that if you do actually craft you are loosing money.
The flaw that clearly shows is:
Example:
For a working crafting economy you must at least be able to craft an item and get the same price for the item as the number of raw materials as it takes to put into the item. Right now clearly this isn’t the case, I gave two very clear examples as to how its not.
What prices should be:
This isn’t about nit picking or about taking cheap shots at the developers it is to point out the mistake so that we can get it resolved. Discuss.
Metrica Province—You can obtain all 5 events and all 15 types of creatures in the start of the zone, near the zone in to Rata Sum, with very little ease.
Hey everyone,
Just hit level 8 on my Mesmer, but I want to start following a good PvE build for it and getting all the right skills. Does anyone have a good PvE build out there that I can use? What is the best one?
Also, when I spend trait points are the non-refundable or do they cost a fee to refund?
Thanks!
A good PvE build is all about playstyle. Personally I have not had any issue with leveling or killing stuff. I kill things in 3-5 seconds at my level. I can take down champions of my level, and easily survive more than other people that normally do events with me.
I’m currently level 50, slowly leveling but, the best advice that anyone can give to you would be: Get gear tailored around your play-style. This is completely based on your weapons and some weapons are counter productive to others.
Example: If you are using a sword/pistol and a staff you are being counter productive because you need Condition and Power as well as Precision and Vitality/Toughness. Stack weapons like this, Power/Power and Condition/Condition. Once you have that settled it will be easier than ever to level.
P.S. Greatsword/Staff until level 40, at level 40 swap to staff as primary with illusions elasticity (20 points into Illusions traits).
Thanks alot that 3rd pointer is a great one i had no idea replacing a clone is equivalent to killing it.
Not many people realize it. Glad I could help.
I’d change a few things…
1: Don’t use a torch, they aren’t great for DPS. Swap to either Focus or Pistol.
2: Swap your traits around, to this theory craft build.

3: Remember that replacing a clone, is essentially killing it so it will apply a random condition to the foe as well as crippling it.
Just for giggles.
Effects causing interruption:
Daze, Fear, Knockdown, Launch, Pull, Push, Stun
Mesmer Skills:
Daze:
Chaos Storm (staff)
Counter Blade (with Illusionary Riposte, offhand sword)
Magic Bullet (offhand pistol)
Power Lock (with Mantra of Distraction)
Technobabble (Asura?)

Confounding Suggestions – 50% change to cause a 1-second stun whenever you daze a target.
Fear:
None
Knockdown:
None
Launch:
None
Pull:
Into the Void (pulls multiple enemies towards location of Temporial Curatin.)
Vortex (spear, underwater)
Push:
Illusionary Wave (greatsword)
Slipstream (Spear or Trident)
Stun:
Magic Bullet (offhand pistol)
Signet of Domination (Utility)
Traits that enhance stun:

Traits that trigger on interruption:
Illusion of Vulnerability – Inflict 5 seconds of vulnerability when you interrupt a foe.
Halting Strike – Deal damage when interrupting a foe.
Furious Interruption – Gain 4 seconds of fury when you interrupt a foe.
Bountiful Interruption – Apply a random boon to yourself when you interrupt a foe. (Vigor, Regeneration, Swiftness, Protection, Retaliation, or Might)

Summary:
We have a lot of crap that will interrupt a target. You just have to know how to spec correctly to become effective.
(edited by GamerToukotsu.4219)
Winds of Chaos would only “interrupt” a weak mob like a spider hatchling, since they get knocked back by taking direct damage sometimes.
This makes more sense but, I cannot for say be positive about what I am getting the interrupts from. I normally have way too much on me 80% of the time, 4-6 mobs, so I am not paying much attention to anything other than surviving. I only see the interrupts because I have been trying to see how often my phantoms critical.
Winds of Chaos and Chaos Armor for me personally have been interrupting lately. Since the last update, I’ve watched specifically Winds of Chaos as its my primary source of damage, I use when goofing off and I see interrupts across my screen many times. I don’t know if its a bug, traits, or runes that is causing it but, I know that I have seen several interrupts from me just using Winds of Chaos.
While I agree, I’d never spec down the interrupt traits—-there are far better ones out there—-I can see how they are semi useful.
I can interrupt very easily.
Staff: Winds of Chaos, Chaos Storm, Chaos Armor
Focus: Temporial Curtain
There are other several combinations that allow for interrupting, you just have to find them. Once you figure out how to interrupt its easily makes since why having these skills are useful.
I don’t use focus (instead, gs+sword/pistol) and I feel like a snail.
Focus is just as powerful as the pistol.
iWarden deals just as much damage to a target as the iDueliest, you just have to know how to place it correctly. I’ve noticed the iWarden actually criticals more than the iDueliest but, that could just be my iWarden.
Other suggestions:
1: Carry a focus, swap it in for the speed buff while out of combat, change to the pistol before getting into combat.
2: Learn how to use the Temporial Curtain skill to your advantage along, with the iWarden. Hint: Temporial Curtain can be very useful for zergs.
3: Get swiftness through runes.
It seems, on Devona’s Rest in Queensdale the event Knocking On The Door is bugged. It will not spawn the champion event that is suppose to open the doors to the Mad Kings Realm. It has been bugged for at-least two days now.
Could we please get this looked at?
