The Cycle of Misinformation about Warriors

in PvP

Posted by: Garb Cost.3718

Garb Cost.3718

Someone said it earlier in the thread – as a non-warrior player, I base my specs around being able to survive longer when I face a warrior. NOTE: not smash a warrior, but stay alive for longer.

Having to build a spec like this, in conjunction with the other fact (also mentioned earlier) that there are – on average – 1.5 warriors per team, just points to the necessity of something having to be done.

Whether this is balancing the warriors a bit or bringing other classes up (which leaves more room for error I feel), it is just so clear that something needs to be done.

Sure, what I say here is going to be shouted down as a l2p issue, but if you have to be an elite player with the right spec to beat a warrior then that is even more evidence supporting the opinion that warriors are OP.

I 100% agree that some people do rage too quickly based on misinformation though!

I’d be happy to take double reward chests, post-event, given that, as you said, the system in place doesn’t allow for offering one of two rewards.

Thanks for the response.

Also, warriors… please revisit. I got the biggest halloween scare when I saw that they were not getting their [ludicrous] stuns and their healing signet reviewed. Hopefully that is just part of the halloween kitten-your-pants scares and will be analysed come November

I hope not. Rangerok should be for those that have stuck by other fellow rangers.

Also, laughed my kitten of at “huddling next to each other in the small fires of torch 5”. Great to see an imaginative and cleverly satirical post that is also completely ludicrous.

The funny thing is that I’ ve spent these last two days..duelling most of the rangers who posted comments towards me like : You can’ t play this class ^^ Learn to play and so on..^^
They were simply nabs ah ah who died so easily..
I won’ t write their names here to avoid being reported..but seriously..before writing such things..really learn to play your ranger ^^ ah ah))

I got dragon class in sPvP but asked Anet not to let it show and I got full ascended gear in PvE but transmuted all to low tier skins just so I don’t embarass people ingame.

Get a grip sunshine, this post is even more ridiculous than your first.

Garb Cost.3718

1) Not really. Every class is different and writing something like this is just lazy and untrue.

2) There are many viable builds… The problem is you just need to play them correctly to maximise them. You can’t play every build the same

3) Speak for yourself… i.e. Trap build = never having to worry about a thief again. It’s the same as above really, you can’t treat every class with the same approach. If you do, you deserve to get whipped.

4) I can only assume you haven’t played the game since the recent patch that buffed spirits. If you need confirmation of this, go play sPvP or read the forums. Spirit rangers are solid in sPvP resulting in mass QQ on forums about them.

I can’t stand posts like this. If you post a massive moan about your class with the classic and incredibly boring “If we don’t get a buff I’m quitting” then I pray for 2 things. 1) a nerf 2) you to be true to your word and quit.

We really don’t need any more whingers in this class forum.

1). While every class is different, you can get away with a single build and play everything fairly well with other classes, where you can’t with a ranger. Casual Player Unfriendly.

2). I love posts that say, " Oh to beat this class you should use this traits, this armor, this weapon, swap this pet out, move here, wait for them to try to do X, then hit Y and WIN!" The Ranger class lacks adaptability. Casual Player Unfriendly.

3). “you can’t treat every class with the same approach” Gee, ok, hang on Cond. Necro while I run to Lion’s Arch to respect, re gear, and retrait, then I will come back and show you something! Casual Player unfriendly.

4). I’ve yet to step foot in an Spvp event… I don’t play this game for that type of play. Could care less how the ranger plays in that environment.

What’s a “whingers” ?

A ‘whinger’ is someone that is always complaining. It’s an English word that doesn’t get used as often as it used to.

1) I mean, sure, that’s true. You can get an OK build on a class and be OK. To be better at one thing than another, you need to make sacrifices. In my opinion, it’s the same with a ranger. Exactly the same. There is no 1 class that has 1 build that lets them do everything to the highest quality. Even stating this is silly because it’s so obvious.

2) I feel you have missed the point I have made. You can’t play a power build and condition build on the same class in the same way. There are intricacies to every build.

3) Granted, I also hate posts that have an answer to dealing with every class. It’s the same outcome as the point I made above. You can spec to deal with one class but will find yourself having issues with other classes. Again, there is no 1 class 1 build ‘I win’ class. Again, it feels silly that some people need this explained to them.

4) Your response has taken my original post way out of context. The point I was making is that our spirits have been buffed and the very tangible evidence of this is what is posted in sPvP forum. I wasn’t saying this is the only place it is effective, I wasn’t saying that you have to do sPvP to benefit.

I feel that your post, while containing some valid points, is very narrow minded and overly defensive. Frankly, I’m not interested in having a discussion that follows this format, I just have no interest in it. If you are going to moan about it and threaten to quit, then do it. Stop arguing about why you are right to quit and get on with your game while everyone plays theirs.

2) Of course there are still some viable builds like the condition ones..

3) but if you fight against a pro warrior or thief or whatelse..you will die no way.

4) they nerfed our spirits..

What do you think guys?^ Tell me your opinions

1) Not really. Every class is different and writing something like this is just lazy and untrue.

I hate it when there is no thought that has gone into a name… like when you see a character named Johnnnnn (just an example). There are so many ways to alter an already taken name just by looking at the lore behind your character, using different letters, spelling variations etc.

If it is silly but I can see some sort of effort then kudos (e.g. Butfart Burnfur – kinda fits the lore!). If it is just, “I’ll add letters until I can get it”, it frustrates me but each to their own.

I normally keep my char names fairly sensible (in case the novelty of an amusing name wears off)… although I do have a Charr warrior called Khom A Tme…

I had no idea that Playhouse and SAB (yes, I was here in April) was soloable. After reading this thread, I will probably have a go at it.

OP – I see you getting a lot of stick on here, and I see a lot of people feeling obligated to jump on the bandwagon and have a go at you. Personally, I think you may as well put aside your current feelings and have a go at SAB. What’s the worst that could happen?

2 options: try it, solo it, enjoy it or never even think about giving it a try and guarantee missing out on content.

The conclusion I reach is that you only have yourself to blame for not trying after reading the testimonials of people proclaiming SAB as soloable.

Best of luck in whatever you choose to do.

I take Stand Your Ground (a must, as mentioned a few times already) and Hold The Line – they are pretty permanent on my bar, can’t remember when they weren’t. The final slot is normally occupied by one of three: Save Yourselves, Sanctuary or Wall of Reflection.

Sanctuary is always nice to have: anytime I use it, it saves my life but has a fairly long cooldown. With ground targeting trait, I found it really useful for ressing team mates in downed state which can be the difference between winning and losing in a small group. Just remember to use stability before using sanctuary – nothing worse than using the “oh kitten!” button just to get dazed/stunned/knocked down etc.

Save Yourselves I normally keep for roaming in a group or individually. also handy with 25 in virtues (deal extra damage for each boon you have) and;

Wall of Reflection is brilliant for zerg vs zerg and keep/tower defenses. It’s funny watching people explode themselves.

FYI I’m using the healway spec 0/0/10/30/30.

This might be down to event timers – i.e. that mob of 30+ had just finished another event and rushed to Hirathi to wrap up the Ulgoth chain. I would (possibly just being optimistic) assume that the 30+ didn’t sit around until it was time for the final stage. Might be wrong though.

@ OP, I too have seen this. Struggling through a whole chain just to faceroll the final part…

In the time it took me to write this, I see a couple of others have voiced the same opinion – unintentional reptition from me.

as a longbow ranger I die a little inside...

in Ranger

Posted by: Garb Cost.3718

Garb Cost.3718

How do people not get that melee is supposed to outdamage ranged across the board? This is meant to compensate for the time that being in melee requires moving around more and puts you at higher risk. Even if your Greatsword outdamages your Longbow in a DPS test, it doesn’t necessarily make it a better weapon; there will be a lot of fights where your Longbow will get more uptime and will outperform your Greatsword while also putting you in less danger. That’s by design. If Longbow outdamaged Greatsword in basic DPS tests, the Greatsword would be pointless.

Absolutely spot on. It’s the most basic of risk vs reward formulas: Do more damage in melee, higher risk of getting kited, facerolled etc. Stand back a bit (quite a bit w/traited longbow) and throw out some decent damage while being fairly safe…

Edit: Personally, I really like the idea of being at range, keeping someone running just to switch to GS and finish them off when they get too close. This is why I’m going to look into an advanced Ranger melee training course for my character

@ Delbaeth – Good to see you putting your neck on the line and risking forum hate! Brave.

I’m in the same boat as you, playing around with a few things but not massively experienced with the Ranger… I played around with a similar build but found it was just a bit lacking i.e. it didn’t necessarily do anything well.

At the minute I am trying out a 30/0/10/30/0 set up. This allows me to keep up regen through “Guard” (for the group and me) and a bit of protection. It also factors in a bit of oomph from range with the longbow combined with survivability with Sword/Dagger (evades) in melee which also doubles up as an escape mechanism with the leaps from sword skills #1 and #2.

My initial reaction is that I have geared towards too much toughness/vitality/healing with the gear I have chosen so I am going to trip out the accessories with power/precision/crit damage to see if that improves it. What I have found is that it takes a while to get killed. As I run around in a small group in WvWvW, staying alive and keeping others alive is my main tactic while harassing from range (but maintaining mobility).

Skills below – I tend to change these quite regularly, still experimenting but:
Utility skills: Lightning Reflexes, Signet of Stone, Guard
Heal: Trolls Ungeant
Elite: I flip between Rampage as One and Entangling Roots. Probably go for Rampage as One once I have a bit more Power/Crit in my build.

At work so can’t post more details. Still very much a work in progress though… Hope the above helps.

I’ve never felt obliged to buy anything from the gem shop. I have converted gold to gems on a couple of occasions (for transmute crystals) and bought an extra character slot but other than that…. no.

Bank/bag slots would be a possible outlay but first of all, it doesn’t have to be hard cash and second of all, If something is sitting in the bank and has been for ages then I obviously don’t need it so I get rid of it.

I feel that the OP is a little misguided and I really really don’t mean to dump on their opinion by saying that.

I’m not a commander but I run with GS/Staff (most of the time) in WvWvW and I would agree with the above posts. I’m not the greatest player but I feel like the staff is a good back up option that saves me quite a bit – I like to go steaming in with the GS and then once people have caught up and my cooldowns have been used, I back off a little (If I need to) switch to the staff and recover…

If I’m not using the Staff – which is admittedly quite rare – I will go with Sword/Shield although might change up the Shield for a Focus as these offer a bit more defensive/block-wise (which really annoys me).

From his text Guardian seems like a good fit, easy for noobs and has great extensive guides up for it. Also it has a Paladin feel to it so he should feel almost right at home.

On this very point, while true, I would try to avoid making too many direct comparisons to WoW during your gameplay. I was in the same situation and found it, on occassion, quite limiting. For example, Rangers have some great melee capabilities but I found myself disregarding this due to the natural comparison I made to my Hunter in WoW and the fact that if you went into melee, you would get laughed off the server.

Just to be clear Irena, I’m not slamming your post! It is absolutely true (partly why I rolled my Guardian) and I definitley agree with you.

Finally, you should only be salvaging exotics. Everything else is vendor trash (not destroyed, sold).

Rares should be sold on the trading post, not to a vendor. The buy price was anywhere from 18 to 35 silver per, depending on what they are (weapons tend to sell for more than armor, with greatswords usually leading).

I use a Black Lion salvaging kit (if I have any) or a master salvaging kit on rares in order to get the Ectoplasms. Granted, you run the risk of getting 0 but you also run the chance of getting 3… and, in my experience, they sell for more than the rare itself (about 25s-30s). You will also get sigils this way and they are worth 2s-6s a pop.

So by farming world events you will get a stack of blues and greens (vendor) and 1-3 yellows per chest (maybe even an exotic). On it’s own, it doesn’t seem like much but if you get your farm on, it all adds up.

This is just what I do, would like to hear opinions on it provided they are constructive.

The lower level dungeons are so challenging though. Having to be level 80 to succeed in a level 40 dungeon seems a bit silly. I know they can do better. I just hope it’s soon, before players lose hope.

Got to agree with this – I have a few friends who recently came back to GW2 and asked “are the dungeons still impossible?” This caught me off guard as I think they are fine but then I realised most of the dungeons I have run have been at level 80.

Before this gets raged – not everyone finds everything easy and yes, people who are new to the game don’t come with pr0 skillz. However, the group of people I am talking about are solid (not quite hardcore) gamers who I have played numerous MMO’s with…

Anyway… It dredged up a memory of trying to PuG a couple of dungeons when I was at the ‘appropriate’ level – they weren’t happy times. There are a number of factors to account for here in terms of the dungeon itself, the group etc etc but I commonly see how strongly gear and level impacts dungeons (via other peoples experiences and my own).

Perhaps this would be something for Anet to consider [re]visiting?

Out of curiosity, how long have you been playing (about 2 months for me)? I ask only because I was the exact same as you and just recently I decided to try a Charr and an Asura (Never thought I would roll an Asura but turns out the customisation for them is pretty cool!).

I’ve noticed, across MMOs, that PvP chat can descend into pandemonium a lot quicker than PvE chat.

I joined a WvW last night, asked where the action was and got flamed by a couple of guys saying “We could have done with some help 10 F*n minutes ago!” This is clearly just people being oversensitive due to a stomping but the point I’m making is that PvP induces these sensitive feelings…

PvP/WvW chat can be very volatile and I have just accepted that sometimes this happens… as frustrating as it is.

What's a good wepon combo for a Guardian

I have the same question re: combos… I seem to change my mind quite regularly. I would agree with the greatsword for levelling although right now I am rolling with:

Sword & board // scepter & torch

For soloing, I pull 3-4 mobs, drop the aoe (smite, zealots flame, cleansing flame, smite again then switch to sword & shield, shield of judgement and auto-attack untile dead). I find this works quite nicely and the shield gives a few reactionary abilities if it all goes wrong.

The scepter also allows for some easy kiting (literally, run around in a circle, getting hit 1 out 4 times by the mob while dealing a stream of dps).

For dungeons, I carry a bag full of weapon combos and end up changing them quite a bit depending on the encounter.

For WvW … I play my Ranger. No particular reason, just what I do to mix it up.

Disclaimer: I’m new to the game so if this prompts any ‘loln00b’ rage comments – I’m keen to listen if it’s constructive…

Another dumb newbie.

I skimmed through this thread (at work!) and just wanted to add – when I found myself lacking levels for the heart quests I was doing, it was normally because I fell behind in the personal story. You can get some mad experience from this… Also, if you hit a tricky part and die, ‘restart from a checkpoint’ (or whatever it says) will res you at the nearest waypoint – 9 times out of ten, the fight will still be going on and the kitten that killed you won’t necessarily have regenerated all their health due to still fighting NPCs.

I’d def back up calling events out (and asking if there are any going on) in /m and linking the nearest waypoint (hold shift and click the WP square on the mini-map) and most of the time people will flock to it.

Hope that helps (If I’m not just repeating thngs others have said…)
